Dancing With the Stars has hosted a virtual cornucopia of PETA supporters, from contestants Joanna Krupa and Steve-O to dancing pro Karina Smirnoff and judge Carrie Ann Inaba. So we were bummed to learn that DWTS planned to use a chimpanzee as a "guest judge" on last night's episode.

Yesterday morning, several organizations, including PETA, Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest, and International Primate Protection League, contacted the show's executive producer, Conrad Green, to try to convince him not to air the segment. In our letter, we alerted Green to the fact that workers tear captive baby chimpanzees away from their mothers and beat them in order to force them to perform. We also sent along our moving video about great apes in entertainment, which is narrated by Anjelica Huston.

Anjelica must have worked her magic, because the kind Mr. Green got back to us right away to let us know that the segment featuring the chimpanzee would be cut and that he would never use great apes in the future. Good to his word, no chimpanzee put in an appearance on last night's show, according to the crazed avid DWTS fans on our staff.

This just goes to show that if you speak up, good people like Conrad Green are quick to do the right thing.

Dancing With the Stars—not only a staple of my DVR schedule but also a place to find some serious PETA reppin'. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba and celeb dancers Holly Madison and Steve-O have all starred in some intensely sexy ads for PETA, and even though our faves have already been kicked off, the cast has stepped it up a notch with this fantastic spoof of our "Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" ad series. Check it out … it's almost funnier than the time Steve Wozniak attempted "The Worm":

Today, amid a flurry of tourists and cameras, PETA unveiled our new "Let Vegetarianism Grow on You" ad in Times Square. In the ad, the always witty Cloris Leachman wears a dress of red cabbage and leaf lettuce. The release follows last week's publication of the results of the biggest medical study ever to conclude that avoiding meat gives people a better chance of living longer. Who better to illustrate the point than Cloris, a vibrant 82-year-old vegetarian?

As if her performance on Dancing With the Stars wasn't proof enough that vegetarians age gracefully

For those of you who were unable to make the trip to the unveiling, no worries. We've got exclusive photos of the event as well as video of Cloris for ya.

Our cup runneth over with the latest season of Dancing With the Stars. As if last season, which featured spunky octo-vegetarian Cloris Leachman, weren't enough, this season we have two PETA supporters to root for.

How can we be expected to choose between Steve-O—star of "Rather Go Naked" and "Ink, Not Mink" ads as well as a video testimonial about the abuse of animals in circuses—and "girl next door" Holly Madison, whose naked ad and PSAs raised more temperatures than a flu outbreak?

We need your help with this one, dear PETA Files readers. Post a comment below letting us know which animal-friendly hoofer you think has earned the most PETA props.

Carrie Ann Inaba
Don't worry, it's not Bruno! Dancing With the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba has launched her sexy new PETA ad. Carrie Ann's ad tells people, "Don't Miss a Step—Spay or Neuter Today!" and features her adorable cat companion, Shadow. I don't know about ya'll, but Carrie Ann is my fave judge on DWTS, and I was thrilled that she did this ad for PETA.

Not only is Carrie Ann supportive and kind to the Dancing contestants, she is also a great friend to animals. All three of her cats are rescues, and she strongly believes in spaying and neutering. Her compassion really makes this ad rock—oh, and the stilettos and fishnets aren't bad either!

Check out Carrie Ann's exclusive interview with PETA:

Thanks, Carrie Ann!

And since I know you're wondering—I'm voting Lance!

Who's ready for the new season of Dancing With the Stars? Me too. In fact, I believe that there are only two kinds of people in the world: DWTS fans, and those who are too embarrassed to admit that they are DWTS fans. I fall squarely into the first category, as any of my friends—and my downstairs neighbors—will tell you.

So, it’s a bit of an understatement to say I’m excited for tonight’s season premiere. And I’m even more excited because PETA pal Jennie Garth is on the show this season. Make sure to tune in to ABC at 8 EST, and in the meantime, check out this great ad she shot for us a while back.
