"It's the triumph of fake fur … because fake fur changed so much and became so great now that you can hardly see a difference."
Karl Lagerfeld on his show at Paris Fashion Week

In a recent interview with the Telegraph, notorious fur pimp Karl Lagerfeld, the head designer and creative director for Chanel, spills about the triumph of fake fur. Lagerfeld's remarks have us hoping that it's the beginning of a new era for his fashion line. My favorite sound bite? "You cannot fake chic, but you can be chic in fake fur."

OMG, it is hard to believe that collection is fake. It's stunning!!

Faux fur:

- Costs less
- Does not involve killing
- Does not need to be specially dry cleaned
- No refrigeration required to keep the flesh from rotting
- Does not have that gross leather feeling

Ok.. all of you other "fur loving designers" time to get smart and STOP using fur for the animals sake!!!

Posted by: carla | March 10, 2010 05:21 PM

PETA please send him flowers and a nice card to say thank you for using fake fur and also encourage him to stay fur free!

You hear that J.Lo.! It's time to ditch the fur!

As much as I respect Uncle Karl for deciding to give faux fur a chance, I really can't forgive those hideous yeti boots! I don't care that they're synthetic, they're ugly no matter what they're made of. (Hey, I live in a cold, snowy climate and they're pretty impractical.)

But I digress. It will be interesting to see if this collection of faux fur will sell with the average Chanel customer. And here's hoping that Uncle Karl makes a permanent switch to synthetics, not just at Chanel but for his own label and Fendi.

Reading this story in todays's West Australian newspaper - Kylie Minogue is pictured wearing LEATHER SHORTS!!!!!! OMG - is this woman that stupid? I mean...really, what a dumb choice. I sure hope some-one clued her in to the what she was ignoring here.
The message was loud and clear at this fachion show tho' - Major cudos to Karl Lagerfeld for bringing this show to the Paris Fashion Week and showing those people that we don't need to wear other animals skin to look cool.

That is just awesome!!

Good job, Karl! Hopefully others will learn from your stellar example.

Many times people label real fur as "faux". Faux fur from Bloomingdales, Normstrom, and somewhere else (I forget) were tested and they turned out to be from raccoon dogs and rabbits.

Thanks Mr. Lagerfeld - no blood on your hands no more.

Posted by: Julie van Niekerk | March 12, 2010 02:13 AM

Well done Karl!!!!

Posted by: Mel | March 12, 2010 02:43 AM

is it really Fake Fur?

Posted by: Shelley | March 12, 2010 03:07 AM

I feel that if more of the fashion houses were pushing the faux fur that more stores would sell it. They could be the trend setters for the faux fur industry. I think it is GREAT!! Lets wear more faux fur and lets kick the pedestal out from under these celebrities who promote the wearing of animal fur and give the thumbs up for the one's who are willing to wear faux fur......

ALL HAIL KARL!!!! This is INCREDIBLE! Now time for other designers to take note and follow this fantastic lead and abolish the fur industry!

Posted by: Adele Parker | March 14, 2010 08:57 PM

People asked for it and people got it. They react to demand so we have to demand from the fashion industry products not tested on animals and refuse to wear animal products and we will get it...Good for Karl Lagaerfeld!!

This is just fantastic! For the first time in more than three decades I will go out and buy Chanel, for this very reason! I think we should all make a concerted effort to support him and his responsible and compassionate design choice. With the "power of purchase" we can make a very big statement that this is what people and the animals want! YEAHHH!

Congratulations to Karl Lagerfeld for his attempt toward a more compassionate fashion industry. This is a step in the right direction and he should be encouraged and praised for this change of heart and effort.
However, I am also pointing out that during this video interview, Karl Lagerfeld states that his product line is a mixture of "LEATHER", tweed, and fake fur. Therefore, his business still supports the exploitation, suffering and slaughtering of innocent animals.
Baby steps are often necessary though for people to change. Perhaps with our encouragement, his next line of clothing will dismiss all forms of animal hides/bi-products. He's off to a positive start anyway...

Thank you Karl! I'm going to wear my Real People Wear Fake Fur and Meat's No Treat For Those You Eat tees out to dinner with my Latin friends, now. It's not just fat butt J Lo, You should see the poor dead pigs in the Latin grocery stores in Miami before every holiday.

good for you karl lagerfeld that clip is enough to make anyone realise that the slaughter or thousands of annimals each year for the fur trade is un neccesary :) it makes me happy to know that this could possibly be the start of the end of fur in fashion.

Posted by: molly-marie | March 19, 2010 08:33 AM

So happy that one of the most influential fashion brands is leading the way and getting awareness out there for Fake Fur. But he said "leather" in the interview, I hope its "pleather"....

Posted by: MEGS | March 19, 2010 12:39 PM

Thank you Karl! You do what a great influential person should do! Fake doesn't always mean second or third quality, it's what you can do to make it the best! And everybody wants it! Stop hurting other creatures and a big salute to Karl Lagerfeld!
