PETA Stands By Gilbert Arenas

We're stoked about our scorching new "Ink Not Mink" ad featuring three-time NBA all-star Gilbert Arenas, but we know what everyone's thinking: Will we still release the ad even though Arenas is slated to appear in court today facing a gun possession charge?
Like a loyal dog stands by his human best friend, we plan on proceeding with the campaign. Unlike fur farms, which electrocute, drown, and skin animals alive for their pelts, there was no violence involved in the actions accused of Arenas, who allegedly carried a pistol without a license.

With an ad this hot, how could we not stick to our guns and release it?

Well, he has now pleaded guilty to a FELONY. And he may not be back in the NBA for quite a while. Bad timing for the PETA promotion, needless to say.

Arenas is a much more humane person than Michael Vick (a veritable sociopath).

Strange,
I thought the only use for a gun was to kill another human being. I would rather wear fur then carry a handgun any day of the week. I stand by PETA on animal rights issues, but I think you guys have this one wrong.
Dont be a hypocrite

Either way it's a great thing he is doing. He looks great and all animals can use as many voices as possible.
Besides, fur farms are FAR worse then any jail! ;)
Great work!

I have to agree with Brien on this one. Vick tortured animals and now is considered a (role model)? Anyone who says they would rather wear fur than carry a handgun is nuts!!!There are alot of crazy people out there and a gun sometimes sounds good to me too. The guy is hot and obviously cares about animals so I say good call!

No violence involved in pulling a gun? Really? I guess your principles go out the window as soon as your bottom line is threatened by having to take a loss on an ad. Violence against animals is awful but threatening other people is not? Come on now.

other sports stars do much worse that is against the law and they don't get in this much trouble with the league their in.stars got with drugs and guns in other issues.and at least he didn't kill dogs.him and plaxico buress formerly of the giants got harsh punishment while people are falsely accused of crimes they never commited everyday and others like o.j. simpson got away with murder in a case where he clearly did it.i still like gilbert arenas.i stand by PETA on this one.he didn't kill anyone or anything.

Again this is an animal site not a people site. People can defend themselves and animals cannot. I have seen and heard of so many awful things done by the "supreme" being man to animals that I get sick of people like Abby saying "What about the people"? What about them? BOO HOO!

Everybody has to remember, that guns are not only used for violence, but moreover protection. Animals have no protection when they are getting skinned alive. Nobody boycotts drugs addicts such as Robert Downey Jr, in fact, they give him golden globes, in which he richly deserves. My point is that everybody cannot point the finger and say well so in so is a sinner, and how dare he be promoting a cause---Well, isnt that what alot of celebrities do? Nobody critisizes Brad or Angie for breaking up a marriage--no, they compliment them for giving money to the world and standing for causes. Regardless, good is being done. Anyone who argues that is ignorant. Go PETA- Dont ever stop what your doing. We love you for it. Riley

My only problem with using Arenas as a spokesman is his influence on young children. I don't think what he did was meant as an actual threat, but the fact is he did bring 4 hand guns into his teams locker room and he displayed them is a teammates locker with a note that said "Pick one". Supposedly that meant pick the one I should use.
Again, he said it was a joke which I believe. A joke in extremely bad taste, but a joke.
There is a problem in the NBA that continues to grow each year. A small, but growing, percentage of players are getting in trouble for illegal handgun possession. Many of these players are well known. Millions of young kids watch the NBA and look up to these players. When things like this take place, the player shouldn't be used for advertising until he has been punished and shown regret. So far, unless I have missed something, Arenas hasn't seen what he did as a negative.
Hand guns are not something that should be taken lightly. It is everybodys' right to own one, but they have to be respected. Especially by role models who have a profound influence on our children.
I just wonder if PETA isn't retracting their "support" because of the publicity he has generated. If that is the case, PETA needs to rething this campaign.
Other than that, I support your anti-fur campaign.

Hey, to all you idiots who don't know the difference between carrying a gun, and violence, FYI, having a gun doesn't automatically mean you are violent. However, wearing animal parts does mean you are selfish and don't care that something died a torturous death for your pleasure. Whether he broke a law or not, that doesn't mean he is violent. Police carry guns everyday, and some of them can't use them responsibly still, and that is legal. Stop being coward robots who think that every single law broken is equally wrong. Learn how to tell the difference between right and wrong, regardless of what the government tells you, you guinea pig slaves! %$^&%* OOh, I cursed, I must be a criminal! All sinners are saints, and all saints are sinners....

Now hold up, just because he was carrying a gun doesn't mean he intended on killing anyone. My grandfather is 82 years old and he has a loaded gun right by his bed. Why? For protection purposes. This is a famous man, someone can easily shoot him. So what's he to do if he's ever in a dangerous situation?
Think beofre you speak. I totally agree with peta on this one.
