Oh, how I wish I were writing to tell you about sci-fi brought to life—that California's miserable cows were being released from milk machines and teleported to the rolling hills of New Zealand to graze their days away.

Instead, today's update is that California dairy producers are adding yet another layer of deception to their ad campaign about supposedly overjoyed cows on dairy farms. The newest crop of "Happy Cows" ads fairy tales will be filmed in New Zealand.

Huh?

A representative of the California Milk Advisory Board (CMAB) claims that the move from the Golden State to New Zealand is simply a way to save money on ad production. I suspect the real reason is simply that after decades of allowing California's factory farms to run amok, there's simply no more healthy grass, or cows, left on dairy farms in the state.

Either way, we're adamant about getting the fictionalized ads off the airwaves. You can help us improve life for cows by sending your polite comments to the Federal Trade Commission—and by dumping unhealthy, inhumane dairy products from your diet. You, the cows, and their calves will be soy happy that you did.

(And if you're wondering whether life is "happier" for cows on dairy farms in New Zealand, the answer is no.)
