shark fin
Shark finning is one of the most disgusting practices of the already disgusting fishing industry. Sharks are caught, their fins are cut off, and they are either left to suffocate or are thrown back into the water to slowly bleed to death or be eaten by other marine animals. All this suffering is inflicted in order to produce horrid "delicacies" such as shark-fin soup.

Worldwide, there is (happily) a movement toward stopping shark finning, but fishing interests in Virginia and North Carolina are, well, swimming against the tide by putting pressure on legislators to exclude some sharks from a proposed federal law banning shark finning.

If you live in North Carolina or Virginia, please contact your senators and ask them to support the Shark Conservation Act of 2009 with no exemptions. To learn about more ways to help sharks and other endangered marine animals, read this and this.

Not only they cut off they're fins, they are thrown back into the water to bleed to death or be eaten by other marine animals, dudes, what is your problem? It's like cutting of an arm and throwing it to the sea just for fun! RIDICULOUS!

The UK has already brought in legislation to stop the throwing over board of finned sharks.
All sharks have to be brought to land before finning, meaning that atthe very least they can't fin as many sharks in a day.
Horrible horrible practice.

This is discusting, they should all be ashamed of themselves. Let's see how they would like it if we did cut one of their arms off and throw their ugly asses back in the water to drown. A holes!!!!!!

The United States Congessional representives from North Carolina and Virginia have very inhumane voting records in reference to wildlife and animal welfare issues. Many are conservative Christians who mutilate and kill God's creatures. Ignorance and cruelty are a deadly combination.

I'm outraged by this obscene cruelty. Absolutely sickening that anyone would treat another being in this way.

VILE. If only we had animal appreciation and animal liberation taught in the school systems from kindergarten up , we could inspire more cruelty free Vegan lifestyles and sick animal mutilations and murder would decrease largely.I feel that if AFTER a human has been educated on animals and their rights and they STILL do this than they should have done to them the EXACT same an eye for an eye.I have NO sympathy for a human whom harms another being.

I agree with all of you. Utterly sick. They don't feel bad the idiots. Cut the fin throw the animal away, they are poachers and supposedly poaching is illegal, isn't it? Let's hope for the best...

As much as I disagree with the practice of shark-finning (and all inhumane practices), I cringe when I see people commenting that those who are inhumane are "Aholes", "evil", or should be skinned, killed, drowned, etc. In many cases, these people are just misguided and don't understand the cruelty in what they are doing. I wish to show respect for all God's creatures. Insulting people will just make them not want to listen to our message of compassion.

I think the days are numbered before overfishing will be a fact - we will have to come with some soy alternative to shark fins...

Besides, the imbalance with nature is screaming here.

The older I get the more ashamed I become of the inhuman race. How can people be so heartless and impose so much suffering on another living being.
