Forget having a factory farm in downtown DC--what about a working slaughterhouse in a major city. Let everyday people try to ignore THAT. I bet you'd get quite a few converts if more people were forced to meet their meat.

You should mail them a copy of Jonathan Safran Foer's book Eating Animals. It goes into detail about the abuses suffered by animals on farms and the impact to people's health and the environment. Yes, it even talks a little about the H1N1 virus

Humans deserve whatever diseases we get. The swine flu (NOT H1N1!) is karma. And yet, people still continue to reiterate that eating the flesh of dead pigs won't give you swine flu directly... even though it's supporting the very system that causes the flu in the first place. Sick, disgusting, barbaric, selfish people.

My husband and I are not going to get the H1N1 . I dont believe it. If our goverment would take a good look at what our Farm Animals are being care for . I was reading were framer said you dont make pets of farm animals ok then dose this givethe right to abuse the amimals and send the sick animals to slaughterhouse are not clean as they should be the used the and the govermemt is leting people from other country coming here to live that are sick and passing on here in the state and all over to other country and take a good look at the foods that are coming from other country to . I think we should go back to the old ways of framing and stop the abuse of farm animal . If a cow dose get up on it own there a problem with the cow that it just might be to sick to get up on it own and have a vet check it out and fine out why ,But dont abuse it and try to make it get up and keep the sick animals a way from the other untill it well enough .

I don't personally agree with the methods used in certain farms today. I think that killing can be more humane. However, we are humans with the ability to digest both meat and vegetables. Other animals that are carnivores eat only meat and since we are omnivores, we eat meat and vegetables. Just like you peta people choose not to eat meat, don't criticize those that do. Swine flu is a problem just like many other viruses out there infecting humans. No matter what happens different strands are going to arise becasue the advances in medicine cause these organisms to find ways around them through evolution. I've never seen a site with more radical views on ethically treating animals. Humans are the most intelligent creatures on the planet and have every right to use the resources as we so choose fit. I agree that many people have chosen inhumane ways of dealing with animals and many changes can be made to improve this but not by ruling it out altogether. It makes me so angry to see so much criticism without thought of a solution that doesn't involve letting all of the animals roam free with no human intervention. I'm sure that would work very well.

Actually, in the past there were slaughterhouses in major United States cities, New York and Chicago to name two. The novel "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair, which is about the abysmal conditions of a major slaughterhouse for both the animals and the workers, caused a major outcry in the United States early in the 20th century.

The vaccine is risky to take anyway- one doctor went on the news and said that he would not be giving it to his children. I am involved in the "Green our Vaccines" campaign in the autism community-nobody who has a family member that suffered vaccine injury feels that the vaccine is worth the risk of lifelong nuerological impairment. There are so many problems that would just go away, like the swine flu, if the government "greened up" all the cruel, wasteful disease producing industries!
