The ideal conditions for a "naked" pro-veggie demo include warm weather, a morning show interview with a vegetarian host, hordes of onlookers and media, and volunteers willing to take on—or off—anything to ensure success. Oh, and a super-friendly cop who calls afterwards to say "Thanks!" for putting on a great show.

Those stars aligned for PETA's Amanda Fortino and "naked" volunteers during a stop in San Diego this week.

These are "Grade A" volunteers. They remained so still during the event that some onlookers inched closer to see if they were breathing.
Meat Tray Demo

Meat Tray Demo

Our meat trays were a reminder that those neatly wrapped packages of flesh at the supermarket are body parts of cows, pigs, chickens and other animals who suffered terribly on factory farms before they were killed.

My grandmother is not cruel to the animals she kills for her own consumption, so is that ok or is she still wrong in your eyes. doesn't mercy killing or pepople self preservation count with you guys!?

The photographer in front is (perhaps) wondering 'do they really believe that animals used for food are comparable in a broad sense to adult humans?'. -p.s. perhaps models of bloody toddlers would have more impact and be more biologically accurate (regarding pork, at least).

Sexy and compelling message. People in the know are keenly aware that killing animals for meat is literally destroying the planet(pollution, global warming, deforestation, water crises).

people don't want to understand how barbarously it is to kill animals until they see such a provacative and influencing vivification infront of their eyes.

Growing up on a farm I used to eat meat and thought it was just normal. Lately I have seen that most don't kill the animals humanly and its very disgusting. I have opened my eyes and I no longer eat meat or meat products. I think its disgusting to eat an animal. GO PETA for this demo. I wish I would have been a part of it!

Fin, I don't think people involved with this are concerned about scoring points or "having things count for something". Sure, they campaign for the reduction in animal cruelty but that is because they're practical (compared to say the ALF or abolitionist vegans). They believe that any use of animals is not justified morally. I would like to know how you think your grandma's killing method is "humane" but nonetheless, she is raising an animal for the purpose of eating it, if that's what she's doing. PETA doesn't think people have the moral justification to take an animal's life for sustenance when there is no reason to do so (veganism, especially with modern agriculture, is a completely healthy dietary plan, so meat eating is essentially a matter of convenience)
