Declare 'National Wildlife Amnesty Day,' Obama

Starting with Tricky Dick, every president in office has issued proclamations supporting America's "sportsmen and women," i.e. wildlife killers. President Obama recently followed suit by naming September 26 "National Hunting and Fishing Day."
In response, PETA president Ingrid E. Newkirk has asked President Obama to declare a "National Wildlife Amnesty Day" in honor of the 95 percent of us who prefer to shoot wildlife with cameras, not guns. That's right: Only a puny 5 percent of Americans stalk, maim, and slaughter deer, bears, and other animals—and many former fishers have cast their rods aside after learning that fish sea kittens feel pain.
Folks, "wildlife management" and "conservation" are euphemisms used to describe programs that ensure inflated numbers of animals for hunters to harass, maim, and kill. If left alone, animal populations would regulate their own numbers. Those who truly care about wildlife donate money to save habitats—without expecting a dead body as a trophy in return.

This picture is truly disturbing. There is something very dark & sinister about people who can kill all those animals and believe it to be comical. Why are their faces blurred? Faces are usually blurred to protect innocent victims not the perpetrators!

I like the photo!
Posted by: user01 | October 6, 2009 08:21 PM
The earth has managed itself fine for 4.5 billion years. It really doesn't need us to "regulate" it. The only thing we need to regulate is our own behaviour.
Hunting in a first world country is not a tradition, people. It's an old habit.
If you still feel drawn to hunting like a kid to knights and pirates but lack the imagination, you're in luck: did you know we invented video games 58 years ago? Yeah, I was surprised too!
Posted by: Renfield | October 6, 2009 08:59 PM
No, 95% of people do not hunt. But 90% of those people don't give a crap about animals, either.
Posted by: Edward | October 6, 2009 09:14 PM
Obama cares more about the rights of violent criminals than the rights of innocent animals. Hopefully, lightening will strike and he'll wholeheartedly support animal rights.

The end of humanity, decency, and respect for any kind of life ended in that photo.
They must be proud.

Don't trust Obama he won't do anything. If he started this he probably won't end it. Just try to get protection on forest.

Those bastards are going to hell! and I hope they have a miserable life on Earth until they get there...

I was happy that Pres. Obama won, but not so much now since he's starting to act like Palin....that is such a horrible thing for him to do....absolutley sickening!
"National Wildlife Amnesty Day" is a great idea, and it should be a week long thing (well, technically it should be every day)
Though, adding that picture was so not cool (being a big-time animal lover, that is not something i wanted to see). (People that kill for sport are absolutley SICK!)

I really like Obama and it saddens me he would have a hunting fishing day! I have lost respect for him! I hope he at least agrees to National Wildlife Amnesty Day!

I might get a lot of flack for this one but here goes. I would rather someone hunt than get their "meat" from a factory farm. In no way am I saying that I would ever touch it with a 10 Foot pole, but it's better to know they have led a healthy life and had a (hopefully) quick, and somewhat painless death. These men here though... I worry about their mental state...playing with carcass' and making a sign...I would never let them near me or my family, straight up. Sicko's.

You talk about the world regulating itself, but if I am not mistaken, that photo was taken in Australia.
Where rabbits are an introduced pest species (like foxes, cane toads, and a great number of other species). Where aside from the fox, the rabbit doesn't have much that can keep its numbers in check (and the foxes kill the native species as well, so they don't want them either).
So really nature can't regulate itself.

Love to see this picture swtiched around with those two so-called men (morons) laying dead on that ground! Wake up Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: carla | October 7, 2009 09:20 AM
Those guys in the picture are DIC**-there I said it! I said it in a better way! Because my post wasn't posted the other way I wrote it! LOL :)
I am so mad that they killed the deer and spelled out PETA SUCKS!
And Canadian Seal Hunters who carry big sticks have small dic**. Sorry but that is they way I see it.Please post my comment this time :)

what's your point u ******* ******** ********............get rid of those mask clowns and come face to face..........lets see who survives..........this is my way of regulating you ********come on
Posted by: jibendra | October 7, 2009 12:47 PM
what I get from this picture is what COWARDS these men are and what they think of oneanother,(they both have to hide)or is there a third taking the picture, maybe they are hiding their faces over poaching and they have to so criminal charges would't be imposed. Real men do not have to hide behind a mask but then who said they were real men look at what they are proud of!! "KILLING"
I would be ASAHAMED too.

I sent that photo to a few friends. It's certainly memorable. It makes me feel good about being on the side I'm on.
Posted by: pomomarx | October 7, 2009 02:23 PM
More or less sums up the mentality of the average hunter. I wonder how long it too them to think that up.
I am disappointed to learn that Obama has declared a national hunting day. I stupidly thought that he was all for progress.
Posted by: Bluebell | October 7, 2009 02:24 PM
Shari,
I can't be 100% sure, but I don't think those are deer in the picture. If they are, then all of you are right, we need to protect the tiny deer species in Australia.
I really don't see what all the fuss is about. Are you more pissed because they used the rabits to mock PETA or that they actually hunted rabits?
I don't think they have masks either, it looks like there faces were blured to protect their identities. Reading through some of these posts, I would say they were correct in doing so.
jibendra, I don't know what you are suggesting? Are you challenging those guys to a fight? There are millions of heros on the internet, but so few in reality. I don't think I would put my money on you.
Posted by: Kurt K | October 7, 2009 02:31 PM
Imagine that? Grown men so pissed at PETA that they cowardly slaughtered all those helpless little creatures and thought it clever to arrange their lifeless bodies to send a message. Who helped you with the spelling, Crow Magnon?
And if they are proud of this accomplishment--why can't we see their faces? Only a coward would do something like this. So many men, so many cowards.
If I had my way you cruel "pencil d!_ks", you'd be on your way to Afghanistan to accomplish something noble and brave--like be fodder for a car bomb.
PETA supporters--the ball is in your court! Time for you to post some clever "bash" on one of their neanderthal sites.
Posted by: Susan T | October 7, 2009 04:59 PM
Well, the two mighty hunters in the photo got what they wanted...they got their picture on the internet...and PETA helped.
Photos of abused dogs and the like are one thing, but these two were baiting PETA and PETA went for it, hook, line, and sinker (sorry to all the sea kittens out there).
Posted by: Rev. Meg Schramm | October 7, 2009 05:35 PM
Hi Kurt K. it's Shari, I am upset because they killed and hurt the deer or any other animal. Oh, and the use of them to spell PETA SUCKS or any other sentence, they degraded their poor little bodies after death also. It was just a all around hurtfull thing to do to the animals.
I never say bad words or slang like DIC* but this time I did because I was upset, I had a moment ( we all do from time to time)but it is a big deal what they did to the animals.
It shows they have no soul and that is a BIG DEAL.
Posted by: Shari | October 7, 2009 05:47 PM
Rev.Meg Schramm : I love reading you post! But this is how I look at this issue. They didn't get their way ( at least that is how I look at it) It may have been bait but their bait was toxic only to their fellow hunters and themselves.
Using the those poor dead animals in such a degrading manor to "slam" even their rivals ( in this case,PETA) did them more harm than good. The "hook" was really a noose and they hung themselves!
Posted by: Shari | October 7, 2009 06:02 PM
that is a photo of two mass murders
fucking disgusting
hunters have no balls, soul or heart they are cowardly incredibly disturbed mentally ill vile excuses of humans.
Posted by: simara | October 7, 2009 06:52 PM
People like that ruin the world, and I'm discusted by them. It's bastards like them who need to be wiped off this planet.
Posted by: Rebecca | October 7, 2009 09:30 PM
that photo is a grim reminder that compassion is truly out of reach and an obstacle for some misguided souls.
Posted by: vegancoin | October 7, 2009 11:55 PM
I AM TRUELY HORRIFIED AND DISGUSTED BY THESE COMPLETE BASTARDS! THERE IS NO REASON AT ALL TO DO SUCH A DISGUSTING THING WHICH NOT ONLY PROVES THEIR TOTAL ABSENCE OF BRAIN CELLS BUT ALSO ANY SHRED OF HUMANITY. THERE IS HOWEVER ONE THING IT DOES PROVE, THEY OBVIOUSLY HAVE GENITALS THE SIZE OF A FLEA IF THIS IS WHAT THEY NEED TO DO TO FEEL LIKE MEN. REAL MEN DONT MURDER OR ABUSE ANIMALS. I'M ALSO DISGUSTED BY SOME OF THE COMMENTS POSTED. HERES HOPING THAT WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND!
Posted by: HEATHER KINCAID | October 8, 2009 12:05 AM
I wonder if PETA or the hunters put the blur in that picture. If the hunters put the blur in that picture than they are cowards. If PETA did then I think they shouldn't have. PETA should post where the picture was sent from. And Courtney, even with all those damaging non-native species that cause distruption to the ecosystem, nature would eventually regulate itself. There may be permanant changes in that part of the ecosystem though.

Jack rabbits are pests theres thousands of them we hunt jack rabbit to keep them out of our hay field and to keep from digging holes so that cows and horse dont step in them and brake legs.. belive me what they shot there was 100 more jacks to replace them...
Posted by: sarah | October 8, 2009 12:56 AM
Sarah, for every thousand "pest" rabbits there are a million humans destroying the planet like a toxic plague. When does people-hunting season start?
Posted by: Allen | October 8, 2009 09:31 AM
Wow, most of you guys are angry. That's making me angry. SHOW YOUR FACES YOU ANIMAL LOVING COWARDS! COWARDS! TINY PENISED COWARDS!

"I might get a lot of flack for this one but here goes. I would rather someone hunt than get their "meat" from a factory farm."
False dichotomy, lousy choices. the fact is neither choice is necessary, neither choice is healthy or wise, both choices are destructive to animal life, both are unimaginably cruel and sadistic. going vegan is the only compassionate solution.
Posted by: sawntwo | October 8, 2009 03:49 PM
I like it. It's like a rebuttal to all of the meat hating peta commercials.
Posted by: Bacon | October 9, 2009 05:23 AM
Hunter: I did not think that they were "regulating" the eco-system..actually that term really irks me..I just think that "hunting" is WAY better than factory farming...the lesser of two evils if you will. Its just like CAK..we don't want ANY animals to die, but if people are GOING to eat meat (and unfortunately, we all can't be veggie) I would rather them have a healthy life in their own environment then living out hellish nightmare in a factory farm. In NO WAY do I condone hunting, but I would rather someone kill one deer and have food for a winter, then pay 99cents everyday for a cheeseburger that is contributing to animal abuse and the destruction of the Earth.
Posted by: Courtney | October 9, 2009 08:24 AM
our president just got the Noble peace prize BUT nobility and peace should include animal rights and this man just made a national hunting and fishing day?what the fuck?how ironic that in my mail today I received a letter from the white house stating Dear Friend, thank you for writing me about the welfare of animals-I take your opinion seriously-first off some one who is NOT a friend to animals is NOT a friend of nine second animal rights is NOT an opinion like your favorite band , it is a fact.I am disgusted by our president -all the more reason that the individual must live in the ways they wish the world to be and NOT wait for some one else to do it.
Posted by: simara | October 9, 2009 02:11 PM
I have seen this picture before and was just as saddened then.
The sad reality of it is that most of the people who do this kind of thing couldn't care less about the suffering they inflict.
Our species is so "entitled"...
Posted by: Allie | October 9, 2009 04:01 PM
Are these "people" already dead?
Posted by: Magda | October 15, 2009 04:32 PM
My father told me and I have passed onto my children, grandchildren and greatgrand children a simple rule of thumb in assessing the character of a person. Find out what their attitude is towards ALL animals; wild and domestic. It has never let me down yet. This photo speaks volumes about the killers, doesn't it. What more would you ever want to know about these men.........
Posted by: Len | October 15, 2009 05:36 PM
Why are there so many animal-hating losers posting on here? Don't you have something better to do than go on PETA sites and make moronic comments that do nothing but prove what a total waste of skin you are? Aren't there any neanderthal idiot sites out there for you to go post on?

"Sinners get their full reward but not always in this world." ...
Posted by: MBD | October 15, 2009 08:28 PM
DianeC,
I don't hate animals. I think animals are wonderful. I just happen to think some are put on this earth to eat.
FYI...I can't find and neanderthal idiot sites. I've tried, but I just keep coming up short.

Baseball, soccer, football, Golf etc.... those are sports. Hunting is not a sport, it's murder!!!!!!

Scum is what these "outdoors enthusists"are!
Posted by: Lacey | October 17, 2009 02:56 AM
Hunting is not a sport! Hunters are killers!!! There are no reasons and excuses for their actions. They are pure evil. They and their children will pay big price to universe for that. Nothing is free in life.
Posted by: Luba | October 17, 2009 08:42 PM
The person at the top who said they like the photo should have their body bent into words that go against their beliefs once they die, just like these rabbits. I'm half Native American, I personally don't believe in hunting but if you do hunt, you should respect the animal and use every part of it once it is killed. Spelling out words with dead animals is just horrible.
Posted by: Kaeleigh | October 18, 2009 03:41 PM
Wow, that picture makes me lose faith in decent human beings. Also nooooooooo Obama don't do this! DDDDDD: I swear one day we won't be the dominant species and then we'll see what happens.
Posted by: clefairy | October 19, 2009 11:03 AM
clefairy,
What exactly are you suggesting? The animals are going to over take humanity and rule us?
I'm not really sure how that could happen.
Do explain.
Posted by: Kurt K | October 19, 2009 01:45 PM
Uh... wow you guys really are pissed. Listen hunting is just one of my hobbies, you guys take this stuff really deep. I just thing of it as a hobby. No devil worship. Listen you keep talking about how misrible cruel and dis-liked us hunters are. But then how come were the most favoritest family in the neighborhood? Also how come if we don't like animals do we have so many loving pets, including a cute little beagle named mise mise mise? I love animals to and all but you don't have to go all crasy over it!!! Also the bible says we are dominate over animals. As agressive as you gus are I'll have to watch my back from now on.

Hello peta,
I am here to just voice my side of this subject as an avid and ethical hunter. And i know someone will comment on the ethics of hunting but my ethics have to do with other things. These hunters do not represent hunters. We are loving people concerned about populations and try to do our best at respecting animals. I hunt every year and usually take a deer or on my very lucky year I also have the fortune of taking an elk. I shoot only humane shots in which i can ganantee it will not just injure the animal, I eat all of the animal and use every bit of it, and I do it all legally. I am not saying you should leave your opinions off this site, thats what its for, but insulting people that you have never met and know nothing about is childish. obviously these two deserve it but generalizing hunters really does make those of us who are ethical hunters be associated with idiots like this. I would ask those of you in here to please be mindful of us. Thank you.

i am a hunter and 98 percent of the time i am just sitting in the tree watching deer. i actually use the meat. nys gives us 3 deer tags and i only use one.
