… and you can win it!
Our favorite hockey player is at it again. This time, Georges Laraque of the Montréal Canadiens is joining the many other athletes who have stepped up to show how going vegan doesn't just do a body good—it does a body great.
Just in time for (Canadian) Thanksgiving, Georges is releasing his brand-new vegan ad, in which he highlights the many reasons to say "Non!" to turkey.

Georges also sat down for an exclusive Q&A with PETA in which he reveals that it was a movie that first convinced him to go vegan:

To celebrate his brand-new vegan testimonial, Georges has donated a signed hockey puck and a glossy photo—which are now up for grabs.
How do you win? Just leave a comment below telling us who your favorite vegetarian or vegan athlete is and why. The most fan-crazed comment will take home the prize.
The contest ends on October 22, 2009, and we'll choose one winner on October 26, 2009. Be sure to read our privacy policy and terms and conditions, as you're agreeing to both by commenting. Que le meilleur gagne!*

I'm not a big fan of professional sports but discovering that a member of my homeland hockey team was vegan made me look into hockey with other eyes! I truly believe that Georges Laraque is a wonderful exemple for all of his fans. He shows us that your don't need to eat meat to grow strong and be a great athlete. If our tought guy from the Canadians can become vegan, well everybody can! Go Habs Go! On t'aime Georges!

I am so PROUD of Georges for doing this for the animals. I wish he was still on the oilers, causing trouble but you can bet I will cheer for him on Montreal!!
Lots of Love,
Allie

Tony La Russa is my favorte vegetarian athlete. The Cardinals manager has been a strict vegetarian for three decades. He and his wife help to oversee a no kill animal shelter in California. La Russa's a very cerebral and competetive leader on the field. Off the field he's got a heart of gold.

Georges Laraque is not a jerk on the ice. His team and foes have great respect for him. If players start a fight with him, Georges quickly wins the fight and wrestles the other combatant to the ice. He tries to win without injuring his opponent.

The documentary "Earthlings" is what made me go vegan too! well that and "Death on a factory farm" aired by HBO. I wonder how many other people would follow suit if they saw these powerful dvd's. Pictures are worth a thousand words.

I'm a Habs fan and having Georges on the team makes so proud :) He is a true inspiration and a mighty athlete! He is the living proof that being vegan is healthy! Georges is a real menace on the ice, but animals have no reason to fear him, we love you Georges!
