Whistleblower Helps PETA Get USDA Citations Issued

Solution(?): Get some goon to shoot a sensitive, intelligent pig in the head and then drop the pig's body repeatedly onto a concrete floor.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that killing a pig to mimic a human fall is inhumane and unnecessary, but that's exactly what Linda Weseman of Gainesville-based Weseman Engineering Inc. did.
Since shooting a pig execution-style violates USDA regulations, we filed a complaint with that agency in September 2008 after a whistleblower alerted us to the incident.
Exactly a year later, we learned that the USDA has issued Weseman three citations and a "serious warning" for violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act (AWA).
The following are the violations Ms. Weseman was cited for:
- Conducting experiments on an animal without being registered with the USDA
- Failure to have the experiment reviewed by an animal welfare oversight committee
- Failure to provide adequate veterinary care for the pig prior to the animal's death and failure to meet the requirements for euthanasia
Weseman also agreed never to do another experiment on a USDA-regulated animal again (so pigs are safe, but rats and mice beware).
In case those citations and a warning aren't enough to drive home the point for Ms. Weseman that sentient beings shouldn't be killed for pointless experiments, I suggest some compassion training with rescued piglets at her nearest animal sanctuary.

Christian, Jewish and Islamic religious leaders are responsible for much of the animal torture and massacres that occur every day. Their religions all state that God created animals and blessed them and said they were good. But very few past or present religious leaders ever implore people to treat God's creatures with compassion and respect. That's ungodly !

Proof that women can be as sadistically cruel as men! This experiment, by the way, proved nothing and only meant that Weseman held a little fake drama and made a lot of money. White collar crime.

Where do places find THESE PEOPLE to employ? See I am still a firm believer that if you can hurt and or kill animals what in heavens would you do to a human being? I am by far without sins of some sort but acts of cruelty are not one of them!!!!

Brien, you make a very good point. What I have never understood is why most religious (especially fundamentalists) people aren't more concerned about animal rights. Aren't these god's creatures? Should they not be treated in a humane fashion? I always tell people that Jesus Christ would probably be a vegan because he doesn't want to support the cruelty happening to animals.

If she wants to replicate a customer's fall in a Dollar General store I recommend she go to one on a Sunday afternoon and see the conditions. Wet floors, merchandise all over the floors, kids running up and down the aisles treating the place like a playground, only one cashier on duty serving a line long enough to go to the back of the store, and no other employees in sight. All of these stores are accidents waiting to happen.

Horrifying. One of my best friends is a pig. Why a pig? If simulation using a body is really that important, then for the sake of improved accuracy of the analysis, Ms. Weseman should head down to the Dollar General and ask one of her staff to give her a little shove.

How is Ms. Weseman an engineer? Did she get her degree on-line? This makes no sense and I think anyone who employs a person who feels the need to cruely use a pig for a demo instead of a 3D CAD effect does not understand that technology can much better mimic a crime for analytical purposes, she deserves time in jail. Or is time in jail for hurting animals only for M.Vick?
