One More Reason to See 'The Cove'

From the folks at Ecorazzi comes the number-one reason for rushing out to see The Cove: It saves dolphins' lives.
The annual dolphin slaughter in Taiji, Japan, was supposed to start yesterday, but all's quiet in the cove:

Ric O'Barry, the famous former (and reformed) trainer of TV's Flipper, has been battling Taiji's dolphin slaughter for years. He reports that instead of being filled with dolphin killers, the cove was filled with news reporters, including—for the first time ever—Japanese film crews.
Looks like Japan's dirty secret is no longer a secret.

I find it hard to believe they just flat out stopped. The volunteers who are there need to be looking in other coastal towns to make sure they didn't just move their horrific killing spree elsewhere.

High five to everyone who has put this story out there, now including Japanese film crews. When I first saw this video with my daughter (age 19) we both cried. I hope that this is finally over because it is barbaric and discusting to do this to the most beloved creature on this earth!!!!!

This is great news! It is funny how Canadians were at the centre of making this movie (like the husband-wife diving team from BC) and yet we fail to stop the seal hunt, an equally horrendous slaughter in our own backyard.

The Cove is arguably the most heartbreaking and infuriating film I've ever seen. The sadistic torture and massacre of majestic and intelligent dolphins is beyond unpardonable.

This is an abomination beyond words. I really love Japan but those awful images are strong enough to make me hate for a moment the whole nation. People who did these killings should be put on death row. Japan, which uses the tragedies of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as a vehicle for promoting international peace, should be shaken and ashamed to its core by such displays of viciousness and cruelty. It's the selfishness, the madness, the blood-drenched fists all over again.

The Japanese government cannot be trusted. In 1941, their ambassador was in the United States assuring our government that there would be peace between the United States and Japan 2 days before the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.
The best movie about this subject is TORA! TORA! TORA! No love story or Ben Affleck, just the story about what went on before, during and immediately after the attack.

Japan has got to be one of the most barbaric countries on earth! Not only do they still hunt and kill whales all for "research" as they claim, but they are killing dolphins which is part of the whale family. Maybe the US has a lot to learn too, but at least we do have laws protecting some animals but need more to protect ALL animals! The US still allows Alaskan natives to kill some whales for food. I dont think any killing of any marine mammals should be allowed!

Wow - wonderful to see. I hope it stays this way. Have gone to hand out flyers in front of Japan's embassy in years past. The Japanese people there were more sympathetic than I thought they would be. I suspect a minority commits this henios crime.
