Claire Parker outraged animal protectionists worldwide with her gruesome, cruel method of making "mad money." Parker, a mother of three, held dogfights in the garage of her Kexby home in England. She and her husband, a convicted drug dealer who died earlier this year in prison, would offer beer and sandwiches for dogfighters who attended the bloodbaths, where dogs would maul each other for up to an hour at a time, all as part of one of Europe's largest dogfighting operations.

Dogfighting

We're happy to report that Parker and three of her cohorts are headed to the slammer.

PETA Europe urged the presiding judge, Richard Blake, to throw the book at Parker and the others. It asked that the defendants never again be allowed to own animals and that they receive the maximum jail sentences and attend mandatory psychological evaluations and counseling. Now Parker has been sentenced to 18 weeks in prison and is banned from keeping animals for 10 years. The others received jail sentences ranging from 23 to 28 weeks.

One former special forces soldier who infiltrated the operation reported that one dog was so badly injured that he looked like his face had been blown off by a shotgun. That dog, like many others, died from his injuries.

Judge Blake noted, "There's widespread public objection at these sorts of offences; of the sadistic abuse of animals for entertainment." I'd say that's putting it mildly.

DISGUSTING.

This happened in my country, and one of those involved has the same surname as me. How can they not all be banned from keeping animals for life?

In my opinion, this kind of 'person' should be barred from access to any vulnerable party, including children and animals, and anyone who can't defend themselves. These people are dangerously psychotic.

WEEKS!!! what a joke, this b**ch deserves years for what she did, i saw this on the news and she looked as smug as she sounds, Why on earth poeple think this is a sport is beyond me, its disgusting and cruel. She'll do it again when she gets out i'll bet my life on it, these people are born sick in the head. and for gods sake banned from keeping animals for 10 years? why wasnt she banned for life, she's a disgrace to the english. and to think her kids were sleeping while these fights were happening in her back yard, all i can say is she is lower than dirt.

justice is too slow... and will never be served at this rate of minimal punishment for the wicked! WEEKS??? i think they deserve years for what they did to the dogs.
how can anyone be so evil???
and how can judges not give claire parker a just punishment???

So presumably after ten years she'll have had a personality transplant? Highly unlikely.

People who abuse humans or animals for fun aren't right in the head and that doesn't just disappear.

I can't believe this kind of thing still goes on in a supposedly civilised country.

I agree with Rachel. These kind of people can't be trusted with animals or vulnerable humans.

In addition to dogs being man's best friends, they also aid the disabled, law enforcement, emergency rescue teams, and old people and other infirmed people in hospitals, nursing homes and cancer clinics. The violent pariahs that exploit, torture and kill canines are just as bad as vile criminals who abuse innocent children.

Hi Elphaba (if you're out there in cyberspace):

Thanks for your kind words from before—much appreciated.

These poor babies. I hope these bastards go to jail for a long, long time and are banned from coming near any animal for the rest of their miserable lives. I hate humans that use animals for profit and entertainment - it should be made a crime, with serious punishments that show that we, as a society will not tolerate cruelty to animals.

I agree, people involved in this crap should be banned from ever having an animal again.

You're the man, Mike!

Hopefully she will learn her lesson in prison, where I am sure she will have many instructors more than willing to graphically show her the error of her ways.
She may learn that she is not as tough as she thought.

These dogfighters are right in our own backyards, middle class people.

Look for households where they are breeding pit bulls. Dog Fighters!

Report them!!

let's hope that maybe there are some animal lovers in jail, and they will punish this evil woman.

THATS DISGURTING.
''Blown apart by a shotgun''
OMG.
I think its good their getting jailed but the law is still to lenient, ten years ban for her?,should be life.
They should have all gone away for years, i hate people that torture, in my eyes they dont deserve to breathe monsters, if you can tbe compassionate for an animal, how the hell do you treat your own species?, its worrying is is a mother too.

A shame the UK legal system is so pathetic, as these people will serve less than a year. What ever time they do spend it will be spent in the lap of luxury, playing playstations3, in the UK hoilday resort prisons...

AGAIN, Animal cruelty laws have got to become more strict! People do this type of thing, and pay their fines and do some jail time(maybe) and thats it!! Until the laws are made more strict people will continue this type of behavior.

I can remember when i saw this on the news, i was horrified but glad that these evil people had been caught and stopped, i feel for the dogs though, i hope the ones that are still alive find loving homes. Those bastards deserve everything they get

I'm not sure if you've heard this PETA. Michael Vick is now being sponsored by Nike, I think you should call for a boycott on them.

Also, they had Michael Vick state on the news that he wanted a dog for his daughter. Now the judge ruled that he could never own another dog for the rest of his life.

What I am wondering, is if Michael had beaten a child, could he go on the news suggesting he might adopt another child? Animals are just as defenseless as small children, when will people get this?!

may they rot in hell!

Posted by: connie mcmillan | October 1, 2009 05:03 PM

Of course it's better than nothing, but barely four months in jail? It should have been at least four years, and she should be banned PERMNENTLY from owning or even going near dogs.

Vick is Bad stuff & I don't understand the Nike. Wellllll maby I do. Its all about money(greed)and all that cruelity & torcher to innocent animals and people that do that sort of thing don't care what or who they hurt till they get caught & not for long cause the punishment is lousy.God help the animals and the children.
