Joe Perry
Aerosmith's oldie album, Toys in the Attic, includes a naughty number, "Big Ten Inch Record," which fans suspect wasn't really about a record. For decades, many listeners have wondered if a certain band, er, member was the inspiration for the song.

Well, after a recent interview with the pro-hunting rag-azine, Outside Living, I think we can all agree that the song is not about Aerosmith's Joe Perry.

In the interview, Perry said, "(Hunting) really gives you a great opportunity to keep in touch with reality," to which PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange shot right back, "People who take out their aggressions and frustrations on helpless animals are usually compensating for other shortcomings in their life." She added, "We don't know how Joe measures up, but it's interesting that he seems to feel so satisfied when he's handling long phallic-looking weapons."

Now that I know Joe Perry likes to harass and shoot helpless animals for "fun," I'll forever hum out loud another oldie whenever I see his mug. It goes, "Ding-a-ling …"

words escape me right now, but yeah that's definitely deranged shameful behaviour.

The greatest guitarists are animal lovers and vegetarians including Jeff Beck, Steve Vai, Brian May, Eric Johnson, Dave Davies and Boston's Tom Scholz.

That's true.

Hunters are miserable people who take out their frustation on helpless animals. Cowards!

Well does he hunt for food or fun? If he is hunting simply to hunt thats pretty sick but if his eating what he hunts I don't see a problem with it.

uh, phil.. whatever the reason... men who hunt have small d**ks just like I am sure he has!

First of all I can't believe there is a "Hunting Magazine", that alone is disturbing, but anyway, I'd like to know how hunting keeps him "in touch with reality?" The reality is, he has a lot to learn.

When I was growing up, most of the men in our family were hunters. They would take off in the fall and be gone for weeks at a time. Years later, my uncle told me the game for him was secondary; the real reason they went was to get away from jobs, wives, and kids.

Phil, you should see a problem with hunting, no matter what the "excuse" is. For food, for sport, either way it is an unnecessary evil in the world. Animals do not need to be shot and killed, we can live off of fruits, grains and vegetables, and we do not need their coats to survive the elements. So there :P

Mourning dove season starts this weekend. I'm surprised y'all haven't done something here

A clearly rich member of a long popular rock band "hunting for food" is okay..?

Really..?

Sorry, hunting isn't okay. Especially when you've got Aerosmith bank and a perfectly good grocery store wherever you live.

For food or not these days it is still a sport. It doesn't make it more acceptable to eat the helpless animal you killed for fun.

Meg, no offense to you but what your uncle told you is typical of men who hunt. Only an insensitive, self-centered, and egotistical man would leave his wife alone for weeks (when it isn't even necessary)with the children. Men who do not respect the feelings of animals usually put themselves first in a relationship.

Posted by: sally | September 3, 2009 05:09 PM

Sally, no offense taken, but with the exception of 1 uncle most of the men in the family were alcholics or control freaks or both; we were glad to get rid of them.

I'm just sorry the animals had to suffer.

The song you referring to did not originate with Aerosmith...it can be found on a 3 disk compilation (which I have) of very old risque blues songs called "He Pulled Out His Big Ten Inch".

The song itself is called "Big Ten Inch" and is sung by Bull Moose Jackson. (I kid you not) from the 1930's...

Forget Aerosmith and it's blood soaked member (no pun meant intended) and remember that the original artist used an animal's name for a stage name.

Hunting itself is almost too horrible for me to comment on never mind contemplate!!!

LOL PENIS JOKE!

Posted by: Pepsi One is Fun | September 3, 2009 10:14 PM

@Brien
Wait a minute instead of making penis jokes why dosen't PETA team up with Brian May then?

Sorry but if you got Brian May to help it a promo it would be more effective than making fun of Aermsmith's guitarist's penis.

I'm sorry but penis jokes are for 4 year olds. But Brian May is god.

Joe Perry is ugly...inside and out.

Here in Alabama we have some red-neck deer hunters flaunting their "manhood" by displaying outlines of deer and bow-hunting scenes on the window of their trucks. That's not all they're flaunting. I couldn't understand why these "mighty men" would want others to speculate about their size. Then, I realized that it is because their brain is just as small as their ......

Posted by: Sally | September 4, 2009 11:02 AM

hunters aren't red necks nor are they hostile or dysfunctional. They are engaging in a legal activity that y'all happen to disagree with. I see more hostility in these posts than I have seen in hunters

Posted by: Tom | September 4, 2009 03:59 PM

what tom said. he is engaging in cruel sport hunting, malicious and psychotic behavior, he is not hunting for food.

Posted by: vegancoin | September 4, 2009 04:52 PM

Joe Perry has every right to hunt for his own food. Even if his penis is small

Posted by: Edward | September 6, 2009 03:35 PM

So i read this article and felt the need to comment. Stray said we don't need to hunt to sruvive. That is true, we could eat veggies, fruits, grains and soy protein. However, hunting is employed to keep wildlife numbers in check. I live in MA and deer are common here. If hunting wasn't allowed, their numbers would swell and they'd eat so much food that eventually there wouldn't be enough and many would starve to death. Also, i have a friend in Michigan who hunts a lot, but he gives the meat to poor people who can't afford their own food. Lastly, I know Joe Perry and I believe this personal assault to be a low blow. Very mature to be making penis jokes.

The only thing I find ugly here is the judgemental and disparaging remarks made about this man.

Posted by: Kevin | September 9, 2009 06:23 PM

Nick, Kevin,
The things you've read on this post are about par for the course when it comes to PETA members.
They claim non-vegans, including hunters, are somehow less enlightened and narrow minded. Yet they see everything in black and white.
Its truly hard to argue with people that can draw a conclusion on a person off sigle, simple aspect of their life. That is whether they eat meat, or not.
