If you visited PETA's Web site during the month of November, you probably saw turkey slaughter footage. And no, I don't mean Sarah Palin's infamous turkey pardon fail.

But have you ever seen slaughter footage from Turkey? Turns out animals are killed as cruelly there as anywhere else.

This video was taken in a slaughterhouse in Turkey, but pointlessly cruel abuse like this can happen to any animal anywhere—from the 8-day-old calf who was beaten and kicked while on her way to slaughter in the U.K., to the conscious chicken plunged into scalding-hot water in an Indian slaughterhouse, to any of the animals enduring the many horrific abuses we've documented in the U.S. at Pilgrim's Pride, Smithfield Foods, Butterball, and AgriProcessors facilities, among others.

If this video upsets you, please run, don't walk, over to GoVeg.com and order a copy of our free "Vegetarian Starter Kit." For those of you who are already vegetarians, keep this video handy and show it to the next person who asks you why you refuse to eat anybody who had a mother.

OMFG!! This is horrible! I'm not even going to watch the video because I know I'll bawl my eyes out! This is horrible! I'm so happy I don't eat meat! These people deserve to have the same things happen to them that they do to these poor animals! I'M HATIN' IT!

What can we do about this? Is there anything we can do? Where do they find people to perform these atrocities? Are there truly that many people in the world with NO hearts? I would truly rather go hungry and be homeless than work at a place like this!!

Posted by: Amanda Foley | August 25, 2009 02:00 PM

I can't watch this. The horror of this will simply ruin my day, week, month, year. I have seen so many ways that humans savagely murder animals be it hunting or in slaughterhouses that I get physically ill from it and it is too painful to endure. How much more painful is it for all of God's creatures???

Please go vegan and spread the message; veganism is a moral imperative.

I've been vegetarian for the past 5 months. I've lost 30 lbs and my body/mind feels so much better for it. I'm now making the next step into becoming vegan. I've never felt better about my choices.

these bastards are sick

When I worked as a veterinary assistant, one of my co-workers was from Turkey. He had been a licensed veterinarian in Turkey but in the United States was only qualified to be a veterinary assistant because the training required to be licensed in the United States was simply not available in Turkey. Here he was working to be a licensed Veterinary Technician, which while not a D.V.M degree in the United States, is higher than a veterinary degree in Turkey.

Anyway the reason I bring this up is to point out (before the Turkey bashing starts) that not everyone in Turkey is an animal abuser just as not everyone in the United States is an animal abuser. People there do own, love, and seek medical care for their pets and other animals (mules, donkeys, camels, cows etc) just as we do.

This is so horrifying!!!!

Posted by: Shallu | August 25, 2009 03:15 PM

There is only one way anybody could do this and thats if they are sub-human!! Tormenting them before they murder them in ways that would warrant a life sentence/or better yet the death penalty if that were to be done to a human, then packaging there body parts, blood, guts and all to sell, yes sell!! WE PAY THEM to do THIS!! Everyone should go or at least try veg because we are all the hope they (the mom and sons like in that video) have. Untill that happens then there will be peace.

Posted by: Carla* | August 25, 2009 03:28 PM

what is wrong with people? Why did they kill that calf?? I will NEVER eat another burger EVER!!!

Posted by: lori rockefeller | August 25, 2009 03:34 PM

I really think that a warning should be posted before these kinds of videos. That's not right.

Posted by: Edward | August 25, 2009 04:12 PM

Imagine the uproar this would cause if it were a pregnant woman and her unborn child instead... Human beings and our lack of empathy truely makes us unworthy of our "superior species" label.

I am sick to my stomach. This is a reminder why I make the daily choice not to be a part of murder. Meat is murder. I have been a vegetarian now for two years and not a single day goes by that I regret it. I only regret not having done it sooner.

Please, do the right thing and realize that the animals we consume are no different than us. Go veg.

Posted by: Deyan | August 25, 2009 04:27 PM

I'm to scared to click on the video... Sorry everyone at PETA who had to watch this!

Posted by: Tara | August 25, 2009 04:48 PM

Sadly, this kind of thing can happen in any country. The only way to guarantee no animal has suffered or died needlessly is to stop eating meat. Plain and simple.

Posted by: Bluebell | August 25, 2009 04:51 PM

hideous

Posted by: Tasha | August 25, 2009 05:24 PM

This is nothing short of sadistic and barbaric. The cow was not dead before they ripped out her baby. There was no reason for this other than the greed of the slaughterhouse. Their employees have no compassion. What about the owner ...could he not have let the mother give birth first at least.

Posted by: Lynda | August 25, 2009 06:40 PM

Edward what more of a warning do you need?!?! The still pic alone has blood all over the floor, a cow hanging upside down, and someone carring a bloody calf by 2 legs. What did you think the video was going to show cows prancing in a green pasture!

Anyway I can't even bring myself to watch the video, I am mortified from the still pic! This makes me sick and i am so glad I have gone veg and now even more want to make the changes to vegan.

Posted by: Alicia | August 25, 2009 07:41 PM

There are no words to describe this video!!!!

Posted by: Lane Dunn | August 25, 2009 07:48 PM

I can't watch it on an iPod touch, but the thought still bothers me. So happy I'm vegetarian

Posted by: Kayleigh | August 25, 2009 08:46 PM

theses r just sick bastards and need the same doing 2 them as wot theyve dun 2 them poor defenceless animals i bawled my eyes out

Posted by: susan burgoyne | August 25, 2009 09:12 PM

I cant believe what i just saw, this is not right. This is brutality at it's fullest and it needs to end NOW! How on earth this could be legal? Most jobs or trades needs a licenced officer to make sure the job was carried out properly. But NO!! not for the muder of a pregnant cow and then muder ...(her riped-out of her belly)... calf, or any other animal. Blame the goverment for this filt because they could stop it. Make it a new law... for the sake of the animals. The slaughters of any animal should have a rep. present to ensure that this act is carried out quickly and professionally, world-wide. Whats wrong with us???? Stop. Breath and Think.

Posted by: Garvin | August 25, 2009 10:05 PM

The slaughter of all animals is disgusting, but the slaughter of a harmless mother cow and her innocent calf is particularly repulsive. As Bluebell pointed out, I'm sure this happens everywhere that cows are used for dairy.

The best way to fight back (and it's ridiculously simple): Don't eat meat or dairy.

Posted by: Mike Quinoa | August 25, 2009 10:59 PM

Im not watching this it will make me very sad...sickos!!!

Posted by: Brenda | August 25, 2009 11:49 PM

OMG, after I've seen this video I don't eat meat anymore...

Posted by: Yvlu | August 26, 2009 05:21 AM

What they can show murder, but they have to blot(or whatever the term is) blood. this stuff right here is disgusting and demoralizing. I'm a vegan but it may be acceptable to eat meat in many societies but these guys took out the mother's son out of her womb, or whatever im only 17, that should be abhorred anywhere.

Posted by: nick | August 26, 2009 08:16 AM

That is horrible.

I thought I should mention that the actual name for turkey is Türkiye Cumhuriyeti.

Posted by: Craigh | August 26, 2009 12:23 PM

omg who could do this to an animal!!! this is so not ok.

these people really are sickos
I love life as a veg anyway

Posted by: Germaine | August 26, 2009 01:01 PM

Alicia-
That's the idea. Some kid could go onto this blog and cry senselessly from the still alone. I did watch the video. That why I think there should be an age mininum to let people see these kinds of videos. Any 5 year old with computer smarts could easily stumble upon this video. It's best for the common good to restrict access to these graphic images to those who are not ready to handle the truth.

Posted by: Edward | August 26, 2009 02:15 PM

GOD!!Why did they killed the cow when she was pregnant?Poor little baby,he didn´t saw the world he just saw those men with big knives and blood, and of course,he´s dead mother. This is so bad!I feel so glad I am a vegan.Hope those bastards are choking with the cow´s meet.

Posted by: Nathalie Cabrera | August 26, 2009 03:09 PM

That is a special kind of twisted, demonic action. I cannot imagine how hopeless one must feel to do that to another living being. These souls are lost and need serious guidance. I can't label them simply as savage, because an act like that is not a simple act of cruelty but a deep, profound malice and disregard for life and love of the spirit of the plant and all her many beings. I only hope their souls find true enlightenment in their journey and guide others to avoid these horrible mistakes.

Posted by: Doug | August 26, 2009 04:37 PM

Edward I would be pretty impressed with a 5 year old navigating the web that well. But if they can get on Peta and see the images that can go ANYWHERE and see bad images. So what then you want the WHOLE internet to be sanitized for children?? That's the parents responsibility not Peta's.

Posted by: Alicia | August 26, 2009 08:06 PM

This is exactly why I decided to turn Vegetarian. I hope that meat-eaters get this done to them in hell.

Posted by: Sam | August 26, 2009 10:07 PM

Thank goodness we have people that care and we I'm so happy to be a Veg. We need more people to know about the horrific cruelty- Its sickening

Posted by: Mel Jane | August 27, 2009 09:51 AM

Alicia, do you hate children? Because you are getting all mad at me for not wanting children to be horrified. There are many websites that you have to be logged in to see these kinds of videos. Why not PETA? Do you want every child in the country strapped to a chair and forced to watch slaughter footage? I bet you do. I do not expect to have the internet remove all graphic images, but just a simple log in and other basic security measures would prevent children from being scarred, as well as lowering chances for virus attacks on the website. As long as children know that eating meat is bad for animals, they probably won't eat it. They do not need these videos that can be accessed as easily as this. But why try to convince you, since you hate children so much. Nobody is perfect. PETA is not perfect. Stop pretending that PETA is perfect in every aspect, and that anyone who disagrees with PETA in anything is an instant carnivore who kicks puppies for fun.

Posted by: Edward | August 27, 2009 01:46 PM

I'm a vegetarian.. and still I think, "What's the point?!" I'm doing absolutely *nothing* by being a vegetarian! Because this is still going on! :( I'm so upset ! :(

Posted by: Wendy | August 27, 2009 04:36 PM

That is a huge leap to say that someone hates children. That is extremely shameful and awful of you to say something like that and then to continue on and put words in someone's mouth like you are doing so. What is wrong with you?!?! All I am saying is that it is not Peta's responsibilty to police what children see on the internet. IT IS A PARENTS. If you don't want them to see images like this don't allow them to come on the site. My children are too young to see this and I am not sure I ever want them to see it, it is horrific. I really don't like to judge people on comments alone since I don't know them but to say that someone hates children is absolutly horrific for you to do so without knowing them. I love my children more than life itself and you are a horrible man for saying such things.
You have turned something that could have been a healthy debate into a personal attack. And went even farther to attack what I love most in this world. You should be ashamed.

Posted by: Alicia | August 27, 2009 07:53 PM

it is the parents responsibility what sites they are on. and veganisim dose make a difference. it saves hundreds of animals from being killed.

Posted by: oceanworior | August 28, 2009 07:28 AM

I am so glad i dont eat meat, wear leather, wool etc. If this is how people make a living i'd rather starve.

Posted by: Micky | August 28, 2009 08:46 PM

How can people be so cruel? I just don't get it.

Posted by: Gina | August 29, 2009 01:42 AM

In defense of Alicia, it is indeed the job of the parents to monitor their children on their computers. To let a 5 year old (your choice of age) on the internet at all except for supervised educational purposes should never be permitted. Do not attack PETA for bringing attention to the cruelties to animals that go on in this world, thank them. This is the only way changes will be made.

Posted by: Kathryn | August 29, 2009 08:35 AM

I agree with earlier comments, I cannot find words to describe this video. I keep thinking things will get better, but they don't. There is just so much outright cruelty in this world, I don't know if there is any solutions to it and or of, it will ever get any better.

Posted by: Irene Leggett | August 31, 2009 11:41 AM

Thank you Kathryn

Posted by: Alicia | August 31, 2009 01:29 PM

Im ashamed to be a human being and am writing this with tears in my eyes. i vow today not to eat meat again.

Posted by: Derek Moffat | September 2, 2009 10:29 AM

this video is bothering me since days...just like the fur videos..i cant get them out of my head!!what they did to the cows should be done to them!!!and i personally would be there to help!!!! GO TO HELL!!! how can you do this and laugh???!!??..i cant belive this...

Posted by: TaRay | September 7, 2009 06:12 AM

Alicia, you seem so sweet, I hope you won't waste too much energy on Edward. Everyone knows he is just grouchy and hostile, and he really isn't worth stressing about. If it makes you feel any better, I suspect he is an AR type (though presumably not a PETA type), so since he can't find fault with the information presented he has to find things to pick fights about. He is just a silly, angry, small man.

Posted by: Elphaba | September 7, 2009 03:20 PM

Elphaba you may me laugh-Thank you. I am begining to realize that about Edward. I have started to see his other posts on stuff and you are right he does seem to be a silly, angry small man. The benefit of being able to post on sites to me is to open dialoge so people can vent their own frustrations and have a healthy debate. With him that is not possible. If he would have stuck on point it would have been fine. But thank you so much for the support, you are wonderful.

Posted by: Alicia | September 8, 2009 08:56 PM

That poor mother! The baby never even had a chance at life. No animal should have to die for our amusement, food, or clothing, let alone one that is pregnant! I can't believe people. Absolutely sick.

Posted by: Mary | September 11, 2009 03:34 PM

My pleasure Alicia--we have to stick together! I enjoy reasonable debate and conversation as well, but I just hate seeing others get picked on in general, especially when it is because someone wants to be contrary simply for the sake of being contrary. So obnoxious.

Posted by: Elphaba | September 12, 2009 01:59 AM

How could anyone be this cruel? How can you even sleep at night?
