Lookin' fierce with her new do, Freeda Fish—er, I mean Sammy the Sea Kitten—has hit the road and is handing out plush sea kitten toys across the country to children visiting aquariums. She wants the kiddies (and their parents) to know that sea kittens, like land kittens and puppies, are sensitive, intelligent animals who feel pain and deserve respect—and who definitely shouldn't be cruelly confined to aquariums, violently killed for food, or painfully hooked for "sport."
So far, kids have been eager to embrace Freeda's new persona, but who do you prefer—Freeda Fish or Sammy the Sea Kitten?

I like them both, can't they both appear at the same time?
Some people will not get the Sea Kitten reference right away.

FINALLY! When I was 9 yrs old I decided not to eat fish. The main reason I did it was because of the dolphins getting caught in the nets of fisherman, and two because I didn't believe it was right going into the ocean and killing fish! Everyone laughs when they hear that story but I have stuck to my guns, and I still believe it now 21 years later. Fish are beautiful and should be left alone in their environment and should not even be used as pets in aquariums. I thank you so much for FINALLY bringing this cause foward because now I feel I am not alone:)

Yeah Igor, fish are intelligent. Though it may not be comparable to human intelligence, the remarkable things that have been hard-wired into their DNA are amazing. Maybe you should do some research before going out of your way to upset people that obviously care about animals, which include fish, or sea kittens! ♥

Oh Shelly, if you took that literally obviously rocks up you on the intelligence scale.

What the heck is a sea kitten? Is it like a metaphor that fish are kittens, only underwater?!? I hope this isn't obvious, and I'm not the only one who doesn't understand it. lol Just wondering :)

Although the sea kitten idea is cute, by using such a character, PETA runs the risks of be mocked. Many people think of PETA as an organization supported by 'crazies'. We need to get the point across without coming across as too radical. A more realistic character would be appropriate.

Chelsea
Are we talking about fish, real fish? There's no way a fish intelligence could be comparable to a real kitten or puppy.
