Halifax native Sarah McLachlan, who is in Ottawa today to perform a concert in celebration of Canada Day, has wasted no time in letting her native land know how upset she is about the government's refusal to stop the annual seal slaughter. In an interview today with Canada's CTV News—during which she wore PETA's "Hug Me, Don't Club Me" tee—Sarah said, "The commercial sealing industry in Canada is perverse and sick. … They club these seals as early as 12 days old, and half the time they hook them and they drag them across the ice. … It's archaic, and it's horrible, and I want it to stop."

Check out all the other great things that she had to say:

Sarah has a compassionate heart and an angelic voice. Other great Canadian female vocalist who love animals are Mae Moore and KD Lang. They're both vegetarians to.

Nope. Not half the time, Sarah. That's wrong.

Fair play to Sarah, well well done for speaking out and using this oppurtunity to speak out against Canada's seal hunt. Well done

We are extremely proud! Many of us Canadians arent given a voice of our dissapprovment of the cruel seal hunting that goes on and our government's support of animal cruelty. We will continue to support the ban on seal hunting!

I saw the interview and I wasn't sure if it was a seal on the front of her t-shirt or not but hoped it really was. Wow....to wear THAT t-shirt on Canada Day in the nation's capitol was quite a statement. Way to go Sarah!!!!

Kudos also to the interviewer. Knowing what a hot topic it is, he had the guts to bring up the subject to Sarah on television. Considering her t-shirt, he had to have known what her opinion would be and didn't shy away from asking her. We need more Canadians like these two who aren't afraid to speak out against this disgusting cruelty.

Way to go Sarah! I was on Parliament Hill that day but way to far away to see her. I am so proud of her for doing what she did. One day soon I'm sure our government will pay attention to us. There WILL be an end to the seal hunt. Please keep up the fight.

The ASPCA ads that feature Sarah are the most emotionally compelling of all. No matter how many times I see them I am ALWAYS so touched by her strong sense of caring and compassion. God bless her and all those who fight for all the precious beings on this planet that cannot fight or speak for themselves.

I commend You Sarah!!!! With you all the way. End the barbaric seal hunt.

I love Sarah Mclachlan's music . she is a beautiful person inside and out!
I think is is great that she
sticking up for the seals..
The animal welfare concerns associated with Canada's commercial seal hunt are well documented. The hunt is unnecessary and economically unviable. The time has come to transition Canadian sealers into new and more rewarding industries that do not involve cruelty to animals.
Way to go Sarah!!!!

Way to go, Sarah! I want one of those shirts so that my students can share in the support of ending one of the worst slaughters of the innocent the world has ever seen. All eyes will be on Canada soon for the Olympics. Wouldn't it be fantastic if the atrocity of the harp seal hunt was over once and for all?!

Hey Sarah!

Thanks for really getting it out there. No holding back.

What I comes over me about animals suffering anywhere anytime is beyond my ability to understand.

You are beautiful to stand up for what is right.

Sarah you are so right!!!!
I will remember as a student 35 years ago doing a report on this cruel and horrific act. I can't believe it is still going on. Sarah is the perfect voice as well as all of us to stop this horrible cruelty.
