In the wake of the death of Oscar G. Mayer, we are offering those at Kraft Foods our condolences and support during these difficult times. We understand that laying someone to rest is often a time when we try to find the silver lining to an otherwise gray cloud, and we can think of no better way to derive something positive from this death than by burying the Wienermobile along with Mr. Mayer.
The Wienermobile traverses the countryside and entices children to try Oscar Mayer meats, which can set them on the road to developing life-threatening illnesses. And while the late Oscar G. Mayer famously gave his meat a first name and a last name too—there are millions of cows who will never be given a name and will end up slaughtered—possibly for Kraft's B-O-L-O-G-N-A.
We have written to the people at Kraft Foods letting them know that while we are saddened by their loss, the burial of the Wienermobile with Mr. Mayer not only would give people a chance to pay their respects but also would spare children from future health complications and save millions of animals' lives.

This is a meat mogul who made a fortune from selling dead animal flesh derived from animals that were subjected to ungodly trauma, anguish and suffering.

It's good that the Wienermobile is getting buried, (hopefully) so now let's get rid of all those ice cream trucks that entice children to buy some aertery-clogging dairy products!

er-frank-ly, I think that's a great idea, Peta.
Say no franks to meat.

Hell yes!!! I totally agree. In fact I think there are probably at least a dozen of the Weinermobiles around the USA...let's bury them all together!!!!!

"can set them on the road to developing life-threatening illnesses"?? How can you make such accusations of callousness against a company owned by Philip Morris?
:)

Nice guys, real nice. A man dies and you say "sorry for your lose" then you turn around and attack his company. Is this what you call "respect" attacking a man legacy? could you just say sorry for you lose and leave at that? But noooo you could not you had to use this as a stepping stone to get them to stop selling meatdogs. Peta you make me sick you demand respect for animals but you dont give the respect to the people you ask to go Veg. Thus making a circle of hate.

As the Oscar Meyer Penismobile so amply shows, the meat industry is primarily driven by a phallocratic psychopathology. Don't believe me? Just google "Sexual Politics of Meat" then read the book. A real eye-opener.

Somewhere along the old Route 66, there is a fleet of old Cadillacs, buried nose in the dirt, tail end up, in a straight line. Probably a pop art thing. Why don't we do the same with all the Weinermobiles?

Meg, that is the Cadalliac stonehenge type thing in Amarillo.
However, given your PETA standards, you might not want to emulate that as an example - its creator, Stanley Marsh, is not vegan (at least last time I read about him). Not that he'd care about your comments anyway - he's pretty eccentric and opinionated himself.

I am truly amazed that a country founded on the Gospel of Jesus Christ (do your homework...you like digging up other stuff) is more worried about a cow or pig than they are of the millions of unborn that have been murdered daily. It is disgusting to watch what this country will do for their 15 minutes. I'd put a life first before a cow or a tree or same sex marriages or etc...I am sure I have pissed off all Liberals but you bow down to your cow or whatever "other" thing you so desire and I will serve the Lord and Pray for you. That is why men and women are putting their lives up for us; so we can do all these things, right or wrong things. The next time you go to yell real loud about anyone eating meat, look at the nearest child and think about how that child could have been murdered. Which is really more important and which should you be loudest about stopping???

In 1988, I accepted a position with Oscar Mayer to drive the Wienermobile. I went to work for a company that treated its employees like family, encouraged the development of personal talent and ideas and that would, ultimately, provide the springboard that would become the success I enjoy now as a businessman. Indirectly, the gentleman that was Oscar G. Mayer (I had the pleasure of meeting him once, as he was invited to speak at a local Madison elementary school) helped provide for me and my family.
I am indebted to the man, the company, and the wonderful Wienermobile.

Most times I see peta members they have leather shoes and belts tennis shoes etc.
Now I'm starting to wonder where do they think they come from. Eat what you want, but don't tell me what to eat.

Kimberly - I agree, we should be worried about the murder of innocent children and by allowing children to ingest this poison (do your research) you are contributing to the death of these children. By encouraging a healthy, veg diet you are HELPING children. Also I must point out that slaughterhouses are more dangerous than coal mining and is the most dangerous job in the United States (again, do your research). Lastly, crops are being fed to animals and in turn animals are being fed to the wealthiest societies causing children all over the world to starve to death. So while I see your point, you should be both pro-life and pro-veg.
Michelle - No one cares that you don't like PETA and of course they attack the meat industry. It's causing enormous amounts of environmental destruction, not to mention the enormous rise in heart disease and cancer (and of course health care costs!)
Brian - Congratulations on becoming such a successful business man at the expense of animals and humans alike. You should be proud. I think that's what is called "selling your soul".

Ed - have you ever been to PETA? Vegans do not wear leather, that's part of being a vegan. It's called FAKE (also faux) leather and it's not a new discovery. There are even stores, some online, that sell fake leather. And here's another shocker - there's even FAKE fur and I'll be darn, fake meat!
Posted by: Steve | July 20, 2009 03:38 PM
Steve,
So if you wear fake leather and/or fake fur and eat fake meat (I can only assume it tastes like meat) then are you not reinforcing the industry.
If you like the look of a leather belt and a fur coat and you buy the fake type, isn't that like saying "that sure is mean to kill those animals, but it sure is nice looking."
The same thing applies to fake meat and veggie burgers. I've heard many people tell me that they taste the same as real meat. So you don't eat real meat, you just fantasize about eating meat. Talk about hypocritical.

@ ed mayer: Steve's right, the "leather" we wear is 100 percent synthetic. That you and so many other people think it's real just goes to show that you don't need to wear dead animals to be fashionable. You should check out http://www.mooshoes.com for some great leather alternatives.

@ Kurt K: What Steve is saying isn't hypocritical. By buying leather alternatives, faux fur, and meat substitutes, you are showing the world that animals don't have to suffer in order for you to look stylish or for you to enjoy a meal that tastes great (with all the flavor and none of the cholesterol, I might add). You aren't putting money in the pockets of people who are profiting from the suffering of animals, and you are able to show nonvegetarians that it is possible to cut animal suffering out of their lives without making sacrifices.
