Michael Vick
So, Michael Vick has been reinstated, although so far, there are no takers.

Vick has served the reduced sentence negotiated by his high-priced team of fancy lawyers, and the law says that he is entitled to walk free. But that doesn't mean it is acceptable to put him in the position in which children will look up to him as a role model and wear any new jersey that bears his number. For the sake of all the young football fans and all the dogs he electrocuted, drowned, slammed to the ground, and hanged, we will watch carefully to see if he is a newly contrite, kind man these days or still just a lout. Meanwhile, please add your voice to ours in our request to the NFL to add "cruelty to animals" to its personal-conduct policy as an offense that won't be tolerated. Doing that might reduce the likelihood that such lowlife violent crime will happen again.

It's just disgusting. I wonder if the NFL has any openings for former concentration camp guards or serial killers.

Posted by: Nathan Collins | July 27, 2009 06:09 PM

Are you kidding me??? If that dog killer is let back into the NFL I will NEVER watch nor attend another NFL game in my life!! Sic-em PETA!!

Posted by: J.Moore | July 27, 2009 06:15 PM

I am wondering when PETA will now begin the outcry about Dante Stallworth who while DUI, killed a man and only got 30 days in jail!
Michael Vick has paid the price (and what he did cannot be condoned) and a far bigger price than other famous people have.
The guy has a skill, now let him become a better person and let him find a job!

i feel that what michael vick did was a violent crime againest animals ,therefor p.e.t.a. should take actions againest any n.f.l. team that take's him ,it should be told now for any team thinking of takeing him so they know what comes with a person like this ,p.e.t.a. should boycott any sponsers that is with any team that will take him this should keep him out of the public's eye he is not done with this crime ,the animals he ended thier lifes he should not have a job makeing all that $$$$$$$

What a joke! Michael Vick permitted back in the NFL. Bet the dogs he killed wished they could have had a second chance. This is terrible! If he gets signed I hope the protesters show up by the hundreds. He should go down for what he did and stay there!

Posted by: Kim | July 27, 2009 06:31 PM

What do we do now?

Posted by: Cindy Teague | July 27, 2009 06:40 PM

OMG!!! I just read about Michael Vick being reinstated into the NFL and can honestly say that I am not surprised....just FURIOUS!!! Let this WORTHLESS PIECE OF TRASH be just as financially bankrupt and he is morally bankrupt!! He is a WORTHLESS HUMAN BEING!!

Posted by: Gina | July 27, 2009 06:50 PM

I'm really disappointed in this.

Posted by: Michael Chin | July 27, 2009 06:54 PM

I will boycott any nfl games, merchandise & tell all my friends to do the same, if that vick trash is signed by a team. I can`t believe that he was reinstated! This is horrendous!!!! You sports stars are supposed to be role models for the younger generation. Some role model!!! HuH!!!!!

Posted by: Mary Hatfield | July 27, 2009 07:00 PM

Meanwhile, Pete Rose is still banned from baseball after all these years.

The NFL should be ashamed.

Posted by: Bill | July 27, 2009 07:08 PM

Michael Vick Should not be reinstated to play football in the NFL ! EVER !!

I doubt any team will sign on Vick. He's a walking PR nightmare. If a team does sign Vick, they deserve to be protested at every game.

Posted by: dave | July 27, 2009 07:19 PM

Oh my gosh-I can not believe he really is going to be able to go back into the NFL. Hopefully no team will be stupid enough to actually want him.

Posted by: Harley | July 27, 2009 07:27 PM

It is a ludicrous that the NFL have shown total disregard for the ethical treament of animals. They are giving this cruel man who was convicted of savage torture the opportunity to be a role model to children around the world. This man should not be a public icon, he should be made an example of what not to be! Shame on you NFL!!!

Posted by: Nikki Richardson | July 27, 2009 07:28 PM

please do not allow michael vick to play professional sports. what a poor role model.

Posted by: marcy merritt | July 27, 2009 07:46 PM

Is there any amount of time that is going to recitfy how he tortured those animals - no but to reinstate him so he can have his livelihood back is despicable - the animals have no voice - evidently the NFL is more concerned about making money. I have been a fan of the NFL for years but cannot support an organization that does this.

Posted by: kris ropelewski | July 27, 2009 07:51 PM

The NFL's reinstatement of Michael Vick is depicable - is there really enough time served to rectify electrocuting animals - I only hope that any team out there will realize that this man does not deserve to play on any team just like the dogs he hurt didn't

Posted by: kris ropelewski | July 27, 2009 08:01 PM

Vick should never be allowed to play again and Goodell should be fired for reinstating him.

Posted by: Paul | July 27, 2009 08:10 PM

This is disgusting to reinstate vick. every game this low life plays should be picketed. no game should be watched. How can people & the nfl allow lowlife to be cheered & have his life go on like he did nothing wrong & truth is all the POOR INNOCENT DOGS BEATEN DEAD because of his money & actions allowing & enjoying his DEATH DOG FIGHTING / DISGUSTING PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW VICK REINSTATED>>THINKOF THE POOR LITTLE INNOCENT ANIMALS THAT SUFFERED>>

Posted by: debbie pajak | July 27, 2009 08:11 PM

So sad to hear that he was re-instated. This sends an awful message and sets a bad example for children. I will be boycotting all NFL merchandise, programming and games. I really expected better.

Posted by: Blanca | July 27, 2009 08:16 PM

Vick is a vicious and cruel sociopath. Even worse are the people who own and work in slaughterhouses. Hunters are trappers are also malevolent reprobates.

Posted by: Brien Comerford | July 27, 2009 08:21 PM

i beleive that we should picket whatever team pick him up. That just shows what kind of character that team has in it's management

Posted by: paul | July 27, 2009 08:26 PM

Michael Vick should have been denied reinstatement. He did not need the money- he did this purely for sport. What kind of sick mind could do that. Children should not look up to him as an athlete or as a role model. We cannot allow this- a petition needs to be started and I will gladly sign it.

Posted by: Loretta Duff | July 27, 2009 08:44 PM

I am SO shocked that the NFL allowed him back.... wait no I'm not....

This is to the NFL .... If ANY kind of animal is harm by Michael Vick, I blame YOU!!!!
YOU are allowing him to have a career back that funded the whole thing... for shame!!

This whole thing makes me sick and i hope you rot in hell Michael Vick.... and I PRAY that you don't join our team, for if you do I will be outside everyday with pictures, reminding people of what you did and what you are...
You are a killer and I honestly believe that everything that PETA showed and tought you was just a show to hopefully [and it did] shorten your time in prison...you are a looser
Oh and don't think that everywhere you go people will always remember and every state you play in, an activist will be out front with pictures reminding people that you're a killer!!

Posted by: Star808 | July 27, 2009 08:53 PM

He TORTURED and KILLED animals for "fun". How can he be allowed back in the NFL??? Unbelievable. I hope not one team takes him back.

Posted by: Lori Massberg | July 27, 2009 09:06 PM

He is a evil man (well you really can't call him a man)and it is sad and pathetic that they are taking him back.

Posted by: Tracy | July 27, 2009 09:09 PM

Vick never should have been allowed back. I am disgusted with the NFL and will not watch any games this season, as a result.

HELL NO!!! This despicable human being should not be allowed to play. He tortured poor innocent souls for pleasure. He should rot in hell.

Posted by: Kearston Gill | July 27, 2009 09:59 PM

I am so sickened by the reinstatement of michael vick back into the nfl that it makes me want to scream. How do you justify what this monster did to those poor innocent dogs? Now he can go back to making his millions. Some say he paid his dues. He can never serve enough time to pay for what he did. I will no longer support or watch nfl football games. The commissioner is some kind of a nut. The only jersey you will see me wearing is his team and number with the name prick on top.

Posted by: susan trecarichi | July 27, 2009 10:02 PM

I have never posted nor visited the PETA website before. Truthfully because I do not agree with allot of your causes. That aside I agree completely on this issue. Let the NFL hear your outrage. Leave them a message at their NY headquarters.

Having an orginization that believes in 2nd chances is great. However there comes a point in time when a crime is so disturbing that the privledge of playing professional sports should eb stricken away. I equate Vick to someone who murders children and I do not want them in the NFL either.

Posted by: ranran | July 27, 2009 10:58 PM

He is a very sick person. We need to put the pressure on the NFL to make an example of this man.

Posted by: jessica | July 27, 2009 11:00 PM

It will be "interesting" to see which, if any, team has the nerve to actually sign this psycho. But, it seems that the NFL are spinning it as Vick simply "bankrolled" the dog-fighting, neglecting to mention that over a number of years this POS actually fought and murdered dogs. Not simply "bankrolled" the whole disgusting thing.

Anyway, I can guarantee that if Vick shows up for a game in Seattle, there will be a massive protest.

It will be a PR nightmare far worse than the last time. Bring it!

Posted by: Barbara | July 27, 2009 11:08 PM

Wow. A lot of angry, wholier-than-thou people on here.

Seriously. Most of you people don't sound like you would be happy unless Vick was dragged into the street and shot dead.

I mean, what Vick did was horrible, but every day in America people skin, shred, boil, dice and deep-fry animals. And then they EAT them.

You know, he did go bankrupt and serve two years in Federal Prison. When is enough for you people?

Its amazing how unforgiving we all are. How imperfect we all are but we are so quick to jump on our high horse ban wagon. Yes , What Vick did was wrong and he was punished for it. The real question is how will you respond when you make mistakes. What will you tell your kids when they make mistakes. Remember this, Michael Vick is someones kid.

Posted by: Tavares Strachan | July 27, 2009 11:12 PM

The man has paid his dues and he, like anyone, if given a second chnace, will take advantage of it and hopefully will have learned from his mistakes and not repeat them. All of you who has never done any wrong, continue to cast your stones. Welcome back Michael, you have truely been missed.

Posted by: Cindy | July 27, 2009 11:12 PM

Not that anything surprises me these days about anything. I got laid off from my job 2 weeks ago and haven't found a new one yet. Never did a day in prison or jail and have never been arrested for a thing and this man walks around with a silver spoon in his mouth.

Posted by: Diana | July 27, 2009 11:15 PM

Absolutely sickening. Give Vick a second chance??? How about the dogs being given a second chance??? This scum bag is still on PROBATION for three years and now he can just fly around and do what he wants? Oh I forget -- the NFL Commissioner Goodell does not have the guts to stand up for what's right. All about the money. Sickening. Hated football for years now. Not like the old days. I have seen in person the outside of Vick's mansion in Duluth. Money money money. How about all the dogs that are at the Best Friends Sanctuary in Utah??? Some of the dogs will NEVER be able to be adopted because they were wrecked for life. One sick society indeed.

I think the decision to reinstate Vick is pretty pathetic! This is just another example of how celebrity power trumps morals, values, and integrity. Where else can a man brutally torture and murder animals, show no regard for life, and still be welcomed back with open arms - certainly not in my world, and I'd like it so stay that way!!

Posted by: Missy | July 27, 2009 11:32 PM

Just outrageous that Vick has been reinstated in the NFL. He is responsible for the murder of defenseless animals!
Some talk on TV about him coming to the AZ Cardinals. We don't want you, Michael Vick! Arizona really needs to protest his coming here!

Posted by: Linda J | July 27, 2009 11:45 PM

Come on guys. We live in America. You do a crime, you have a trial, you do your time, you get back on with your life. People have killed people and have been under less scurtiny than Mike Vick. Let it go. What he did was not and will not be condoned. Let it go. He has done more to bring dogfighting to the forfront htan any initiative PETA could have possibly spearheaded. Let it go. He is going to be involved in all sorts of animal rights issues from here on out. Let it go.

Posted by: Kwaisi France | July 27, 2009 11:49 PM

Professional athletes are role models to children. As such, the price for their wealth, fame, and endorsement deals must be a strictly-enforced moral code INCLUDING cruelty to animals. If an NFL player (or any athlete for that matter) violates this code he must be held accountable by the team and not just the public.

Posted by: shannon | July 27, 2009 11:50 PM

He did the crime and did the time.. Let him get back to work.

Posted by: Mike | July 27, 2009 11:52 PM

everyone that is for that scum bag are your crazy he did something for 6 YEARS it was not like he did it one time and saw what he did was wrong NO he got in trouble and now he is sorry for what he did he was not sorry when he was making all that money and he was not sorry when he was killing poor dogs with his bare hands if people can not see that he is scum that is on you but to let this man and I use that with a taste in my mouth play again and make money and have little kids look up to him you are so sad and I hope you or that thing you call vicks never go near a animal again

Posted by: Brandi Ohara | July 27, 2009 11:57 PM

Mr. Goodell, Whether you read this email or not, your choice. I am saddened to hear you reinstated Vick to play professional football. I saw the headline and refused to read any further, just seeing the headline made me sick. I am a football fan and Vick was a great quarterback. I am from Atlanta and am a Falcons fan, also a Steeler fan. I watched him play many times.

I am also an animal lover, I own 3 dogs. If Vick plays again it will only show the children of the world that yes, you do a bad thing, you pay for your mistakes and then guess what, and you get a chance to make those mistakes again. I am not saying he will make further mistakes, nor do I hope he will continue with the dog fighting ring. I am just not a fan of allowing a known criminal play a sport, allow him to make a lot of money and have this all eventually just be “water under the bridge".
I don't think he deserves to play, to be a role model; because inevitably that is what a sport figure is, and guaranteed; Vick is not a role model in my book. We watch sports for entertainment; the players make a lot of money. Sports celebrities, again who are supposed to be role models, get away with a lot of stuff; drugs, gambling, infidelity, etc with a slap on the hand. I believe he is laughing at the reinstatement and basically calling you and your advisers- suckers. It is not a smart idea to allow him to play Mr. Goodell, hopefully the teams that do want to pick him up, which I hope are very, very few have awful seasons, low attendance and have fans that desert them. You have changed football forever in making this decision. Now, I will go hug my dogs. I hope you do the same.
Sincerely
Shannon

millions of americans are convicted felons and most can't even find work as a pot scrubber in a mcdonalds. this guy kills helpless animals and gets rewarded with millions in pay and endorsements? peta should be at every game on opening day with video cameras. record the faces of the bigwigs then release to the press who these people are. companies that do business with dog killers should be exposed.

Posted by: wb | July 28, 2009 12:09 AM

This "man" was very wealthy. He did not dog fight for cash. HE FOUGHT THESE POOR DOGS FOR FUN! HE ENJOYED THEIR PAIN AND AGONY!!! HE LIKED WATCHING THEM RIP EACH OTHER APART! HE KILLED DOGS FOR HIS OWN PLEASURE!!! HOW DARE THE NFL TAKE THIS SAD SICK LOSER BACK. Honestly what does this say about our society. Are we willing to sit back and take this crap. I for one will have nothing to do with the NFL again!

Posted by: Laura | July 28, 2009 12:33 AM

Well, I am a big sports fan, and not surprised by this. In reality, very few fans will boycott the entire NFL. But I am encouraging fans not to watch games in which Vick is a player. If ratings drop, that means something. There is a very good chance no team will pick him up, at least not now. But if a franchise signs him, I can't ask fans not to watch their own team.

To Mr. Murray: DUI homicide is horrible, we all agree. But PETA's agenda is animals. There are many agencies working for safer highways, not so many working for animal concerns.

Posted by: Bob Millard | July 28, 2009 12:37 AM

Whoooo hooo! I'm so glad Mike Vick is back in the NFL, he deserves another chance. after all, he served his jail time. let the man work!

Posted by: Mike | July 28, 2009 12:44 AM

Another thought on the subject: though a minority, there are a lot of players and fans who don't get the severity of what Vick did. They contend that his crime was against animals, not humans, so what's the big deal? Environments producing callousness like that is the larger issue at the core of much human and animal suffering.

Posted by: Robert A Millard | July 28, 2009 12:51 AM

I was reading on CNN.com and it said that vick DID undergo the tests that peta requested. can someone confirm or deny this with us?

Posted by: laura | July 28, 2009 12:52 AM

The man served his sentence, and he is applying for a job he is veyr qualified for. What is the problem? Did you protest the construction company that hired him for the past few months?

Mike Vick has been punished more than Ray Lewis, who was an accomplice and direct witness to a double homocide, Leonard Little, who killed a woman in a DUI, or countless other NFL players with felony backgrounds. Just because his case was so high-profile doesn't mean he should be punished further than the law requires.

Posted by: Edward Bingil | July 28, 2009 01:27 AM

As a proud american, I fight for our freedom in this country every day. It is sad to see that a professional group like PETA would not allow a person a second chance. It sickens me that we can't allow a person to pay for their actions, learn from it and try to move on with their lives. He has done his time and is trying to get educated on cruely to animals. I could never do what he did, however, I think about what if it were someone in your family? Would you be singing the same tune? Understand, jail is not to just house criminals, it's there to educate and make you aware of your wrong doings so you can build on that, understand why you're there, oh, wait.. and give you a second chance. I am here to say that everyone deserves a second chance and only a second chance. I beg you to give him time and see if he is a changed man!! If not, pleae keep bashing him!!! Forgive people! He will be stronger, MLK said it best The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

Posted by: Brandon Witter | July 28, 2009 01:50 AM

While it is so heart warming to read these comments and know that ahhh there are people that think like me.... I ask myself really are you really mad.... mad enough to have your voices heard if he lands in your backyard and plays for your team. Really if you did that would be wonderful not just tweet facebook and comment but speak up in your real voice and let it be heard

Posted by: Dltobin | July 28, 2009 01:52 AM

People can change and deserve a second chance. Nobody has any idea what Vick's mentality is at this point. What does he have to do for people to stop condemning him? Walk though fire? Donate all of his time, money, and resources to organizations such as PETA and the Humane Society?

There is no doubt that his crimes against animals were horrendous. If he burns himself again by committing similar acts, condemn the man all you want. However, who is to say that he is not a changed man? Second chances can save lives. If anybody should know that I would think the members here would. Perhaps he has experienced a life-altering event that is the turning point for a man that did not previously understand the severity of his actions or consider the lives of the animals involved. Give Vick the chance to prove if he is now truly enlightened and has learned from his mistakes rather than remaining so judgmental.

Posted by: Joe | July 28, 2009 02:05 AM

Reinstated? WTF? He should NEVER be allowed the privilege to play in the NFL again. It's not as if he screwed up ONCE. He has screwed up numerous times. LOSER! The NFL is a joke. It harbors ghetto thugs with talent in the game but have no idea how to be decent human beings. I'm done. No more NFL for me. There is no way I will devote my precious time or money to ANY game in the NFL. Roger Goodell Is an IDIOT, and Vick is a POS!

Posted by: Stephanie Zapasnik | July 28, 2009 02:16 AM

Officially now, I will be missing the 2009 - 2010 NFL year. It is just incredible to me that the the professional sport leagues just can't seem to get themselves enough rapists, killers and thugs for their teams. Until they stop hiring sick, cruel and evil people with extensive criminal records, I'm finding something else to do on Sundays... for the first time in 30 years, I won't be watching the Chicago Bears play with my family. This guy couldn't get a job at an ice cream parlor due to his record but he can play a sport for millions of dollars in front of our children. What?!?!

Posted by: Andie Brokaw | July 28, 2009 02:23 AM

He is a weirdo. I cannot believe what he and his friends did to those dogs. It was perverted and twisted. SOOOOOO GROSS. How could he be allowed to earn millions and be a role model????
I have two sports loving nephews and I shutter at the thought of them watching and cheering for him EVER.
This is terrible news.

Posted by: Deanna Dylan Scott | July 28, 2009 03:07 AM

Considering there are players in the NFL who have murdered people and have receieved lesser penalties than Vick.I think its ok for Vick to work at probably the only thing he will ever be good at. But I don't know about everyone here but i value a human life more than a dogs'.

Posted by: Frank Fontaine | July 28, 2009 03:56 AM

Dude killed dogs, stupid if he ever did it again. He's back in pro football and said sorry. All people can do now is wait. People might hate now and hate later or hate now and cheer for later. Some players can care less about being role models and in Vick's situation he probably won't be looked as a role model to many but football is about football at the end of the day so yeah. Even players who are considered role models want Vick playing again so yeah. It was pretty obvious he was getting reinstated.

PETA and the millions of anti-meat eating activists vs. a 100 million carnivorous apathetic football fans.

Damn if PETA or anybody else against this dude succeed at getting him out of the NFL than maybe the mission of this organization stands stronger.

Posted by: why? | July 28, 2009 04:21 AM

He knew exactly what he was doing, made money from it and loved it. The NFL has too many gang banger types who will love the idea that he is back. There are 4-5 teams that will get him. Raiders, Ravens, Rams, Tampa Bay or The Bengals. The NFL has proven again and again they care nothing about what the fans think or the class level of the players, just the cash. Vick is an over-rated, illiterate, piece of trash that was given the chance to do something great with his life and chose to kill. He is disposable in the NFL and as a human. Those teams don't mind trash or criminals, they will embrace them and probably laugh about VIcks lack of real punishment.

Posted by: Kelli jay | July 28, 2009 04:32 AM

well... I'm disgusted. I know there are a lot of stipulations & as far as Vick being fully back in the NFL it hasn't been set yet but they've done enough damage. From this point forward I will be asking my family that the money normally spent on NFL merchandise to be donated to PETA & I will be doing the same myself. Goodell just spat on one of my passions & on his institution. I refuse to support criminals or organizations that support criminals in this manner.

Posted by: Thomas Weaver | July 28, 2009 04:54 AM

im disgusted with this decision. maybe one thing he should be doing is being a volunteer for an animal welfare centre, to see the suffering and see animals as creatures with feelings. the link i included is a news article, but there is also 2 polls. and its interesting that the majority did agree with the NFL, but the majority wouldnt want vick to play for their favourite team. maybe we should all vote.

Posted by: wendy | July 28, 2009 05:19 AM

Does the NFL actually know what all is involved in dog fighting? Not just the Pitbulls but also the bait dogs? How many animals were directly and indirectly TORTURED TO DEATH by this sub human scum. The guy who decided this should be forced to SIT and WATCH a video of what happens with "bait dogs" I saw it once on my evening news briefly and it has haunted me since and this was years ago. Let this guy see a small scared dog with its tail so far between its legs just trying to vanish be thrown over and over again at a pitbull that is biting and tearing at it. These inocent bait dogs are usually peoples lost beloved pets.....this inhuman parasite doesnt deserve to breath let alone walk in the world of heros that our sport players have become....this world is going to hell...

Posted by: kelly | July 28, 2009 05:42 AM

i have two dogs. one happens to be a pit bulldog,he is as sweet as he can be.surelt the nfl won't lower it's standards and let vick play.

Posted by: don davis | July 28, 2009 06:51 AM

What good is a "cruelty to animals" announcement going to do if Vick is playing again?

Had he not been allowed to play then that would have sent a message. Now it's just another "just say no" campaign. In reality, everybody just says yes.

Posted by: Mike | July 28, 2009 07:25 AM

Michael Vick should never receive millions of dollars to play in the NFL again. His crime is not one case of bad judgment, but years of torturing helpless animals. There is plenty of football talent in this country and plenty of players who will set a good example. Anyone who thinks that Goodell is being hard on Vick is surely not aware of the extent of his atrocities. Let Vick spend the rest of his days mending his ways off the field. I hope Peta and the Humane Society will work together to lead boycotts and protests against Vick, should any team be foolish enough to sign him. Vick has not shown any contrition or sorrow for the pain and suffering he caused these dogs. Vick makes me sick, and as an NFL season ticket holder and football fan, I believe this is the right time for the game to move forward without him.

Posted by: Eve | July 28, 2009 07:49 AM

Of course, we PETA members all agree that Vick has no business in the NFL. Let's present a calm, coherent response to the NFL owners and coaches telling them how we feel. No name calling or insults, just letting them no we won't support the NFL with our dollars. MRemember: money talks.

We are Americans, Vick was sent to jail for something bad he did. Jail is supposed to teach you not to do the things that put you there in the first place.Give him a chance. If this happened to one of your family members, wouldn't you want them to have a fair chance?

Posted by: Scott | July 28, 2009 08:15 AM

Why should Vick get his job back. Any other person would find a hard time getting a job after two years in prison. Let him join the ranks of the commoners. I hope Peta protests any stadiums that he plays in.

Posted by: Karen | July 28, 2009 08:32 AM

There was nothing ethical about Vick's treatment of animals. I hope PETA doesn't cave in like the human society. While I believe in 2nd chances I don't believe in 2nd privileges. Playing in the NFL is a privilege!!!

Posted by: Jennifer | July 28, 2009 08:34 AM

I think it's so funny how you care about animals ike there people. there not GOD made them to be animals not PEOPLE.You need to leave vick alone and start worry about people killing people and people with out food in the world. People need to protest you PETA for lack of respect for human life and not animals! When are we going to worry about people and not pets.God didn't put them animals on earth with clothes. Why don't you leave vick alone and worry about riseing money for humans. the one we need to worry about and babies and kids who don't have home to go to or food to eat. So what is peta say animals are over humans. PETA needs to wake up and leave vick alone. when animals get killed everyday by our goverment. He said he was sorry everybody need to learn from there prblems. Im not saying what he did was right but he has a life and a family to feed to give theman a second chance. Or are you going to kill his chance of playing football. two wrongs don't make a right what your doing is murder to his JOB. So who right. You don't even give people a chance to do go. so i say to hell with PETA you people are murders and should go to jail to. MURDERS. Snimals where not made to treated better the humans!!!!!

I love this message that the NFL is sending that when you are rich enough, or can make someone enough money you can get away with murder!

I LOVE MY BULLIES!

Are you kidding me....... the NFL is re-instating Michael "Animal Killer" Vick back! Why? SO he can make millions and millions of dollars....do CRIMINALS deserve millions of dollars?????? I WILL NEVER watch, support, or attend any NFL games if this animal killer is allowed to play!

Posted by: Kelli | July 28, 2009 09:36 AM

How naive can you guys be?! If Vick is allowed to disappear into obscurity who knows what he would be involved in. Now that he is reinstated, there is a system in place to monitor his behavior and lifestyle. This will only help him to become a better person thru the process of time. I despise what he did but I am pleased with the punishment, now lets give him the chance that humans give one another. If we treated people through-out history in the same manner that you all are wanting Vick to be treated, we wouldnt have the great country that we have today. We are all better individuals, families, friends and citizens because of forgiveness.

Seeing Michael Vick's face in the news again (with that stupid grin on his face), makes me sick. For the people out there that say he paid for his mistake.....ARE YOU SERIOUS?!! A MISTAKE?!! He knew exactly what he was doing, and enjoyed every minute of it! He is a COLDHEARTED, WORTHLESS, PIECE OF TRASH!!! From all animal lovers, and the dogs who suffered...WE WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU MICHAEL VICK!!!

Posted by: Adele | July 28, 2009 10:01 AM

Shame on you NFL for reinstating Michael Vick! I thought the NFL had class and upheld family values. There are plenty of good young men that would love to play in the NFL. Football doesn't need the likes of Michael Vick!

I and my family will no longer purchase NFL tickets, watch any NFL games on TV, or purchase any products from companies that advertise with the NFL!

Sincerely,

Posted by: Billy Petsche | July 28, 2009 10:05 AM

When are people going to be held truly accountable for their actions? To see this guy get back in the game would be a slap in the face to all decent athletes. The teams should take a stand and refuse to condone Vick's dark side in any way. There are plenty of great athletes out there that can play as well that aren't sociopathic devil spawn. No Vick!

Posted by: Barbara - Florida | July 28, 2009 10:13 AM

I cannot begin to communicate my deep level of disgust at the NFL for providing Vick with a second chance. I will not watch any games that he plays in. I am considering never watching the NFL again!
I do believe in forgiveness and redemption, but that is not always the same as "second chances". Not everyone does deserve a second chance depending on the nature of the heinousness of the crime committed. Vick let down so many people in his profession as well as his fans and more than that- he was responsible for countless
cruelty against animal crimes. He clearly continues to demonstrate a criminal mindset and never once has he seemed genuinely remorseful or been able to grasp the magnitude of his crimes instead he commits financial crimes. His motivation seems to be solely income-based. Why doesn't the NFL simply move on from Vick and the controversy that will surround him and try hiring a really talented player who truly deserves a second chance in the league?

Posted by: NFL Fan in Chicago | July 28, 2009 10:18 AM

While It is true, that most convicted crimianls, do not get a second chance with the same job, I have not seen the same outcry, Others that have less money, have done some of the same crimes, any not many protest there jobs. Most people that watch NFL, watch it for more than one person. What about the other people on the teams, How is protesting affecting their work.

Posted by: James Lee Hunt Jr | July 28, 2009 10:26 AM

Are any PETA people Christians? Vick has served his time. What will it take for you people to forgive him?

Posted by: Thomas Smith | July 28, 2009 10:28 AM

Michael Vick made the biggest mistake of his life. He spent his 2 years in prison. He agreed to the psychological test. Now there are two alternatives for Vick's life.

1. Keep Vick out of the NFL. Let him struggle to find any other alternatives for his life. Vick is a convicted felon. He cannot get a simple job. Let him continue to hang around the wrong people and let them influence him. There will be a 50/50 chance he will go in the wrong direction in his life.

2. Vick returns to the NFL. He gets booed and ridiculed of course. He knows he can never change his past. He cooperates with PETA (which I'm pretty sure he will) and makes public statements against cruelty to animals. He shows people that it is possible to learn and grow from their biggest mistakes. He knows that he would be the biggest idiot on the planet to let his family and true fans down again.

I will be watching Michael Vick play football. I want to see a man grow and better himsef from his horrific acts. I want him to have love for all da dawgs! I want him to become a winner in his life! Of course until he plays my team. That's the only time I whish for him to be a loser.

Posted by: Craig | July 28, 2009 10:31 AM

The Apostle Paul was at one time a murderer of Christians. However, he later became one of the greatest ministers of al time. Every one has the right to be forgiven. I am so glad that God doesn't look upon my sins the way you people have. Have any of you ever done something wrong?

Posted by: Thomas Smith | July 28, 2009 10:33 AM

This is disgusting, what Vick did to those dogs is perverse and he should not play in the nfl. he is sick. by the way HSUS spoke on his behalf. i think HSUS sold us all out.

Posted by: roxanne | July 28, 2009 10:38 AM

It is very disappointing. When will people start to realize that animals deserve rights? Just b/c they don't speak or dribble about like babies, doesn't make them any less "human." They scream out in pain just like the rest of us. I'm sure those dogs this animal tortured cried out in pain. :o( Karma is a bitch though, that's all I'm saying.

Also hopefully this sheds a light onto the issue and more people become outraged at the slap on the wrist most people get for animal cruelty. He will get his.

Posted by: Melissa | July 28, 2009 10:40 AM

I hope the Raiders sign Vick. Al Davis couldn't careless about "PR" and I'd like to see some protesting around Oakland's stadium. Could lead to some interesting situations.

Vick +1
PETA -1

Posted by: Nikki S | July 28, 2009 10:40 AM

WRONG IS WRONG. I cannot believe the BS I am reading on this site! You honestly think that someone who can't conduct themselves like a civilized, humane person deserves to make a living? SCREW him and the NFL. What a load of crap you are spouting about forgiveness! Tell that to the dogs he bashed to death, drowned, and hanged. Go work in a urban shelter (I do) for a week and you'll have a very different viewpoint.

You are all missing the point. Civilized society can't make decisions for themselves. So it is up to the people that bankroll Vick to influence the hearts and minds of the populace. If the Gods of the Sports Entertainment complex say he should be forgiven, then everyone with half a brain forgives him and continues to pay the other lowlifes on the field. (Did anyone else read the article that came out in SI or ESPN Mag immediately after the Vick story hit? An anonymous informant stated that Vick knows lots of other pro athletes involved in the dog fighting world.)

The closest analogue to animal abuse is child abuse. We don't forgive people who abuse children. We should not forgive people who abuse animals. (I agree that factory farming is just as bad as dog fighting, but really, that argument is so esoteric and hard to stomach for the majority of people that it marginalizes our collective viewpoint as vegans/activists. Please stop using it, or we aren't going to get anywhere on this very specific issue: dog fighting and companion animal abuse.)

Posted by: vegforollie | July 28, 2009 10:43 AM

He may deserve a 2nd chance. However we need to show the NFL we do not agree with giving him one at this time.
Boycott the team that signs him, boycott all games they play. He has not shown that other than losing a lucrative contract he is sorry for what was done to the animals.

Posted by: yvonne smith | July 28, 2009 10:46 AM

I am not a part of the PETA organization, but I agree and disagree with some of their causes. Animal cruelty for enjoyment puposes is just plain wrong! I agree. But I disagree with all the negativity towards Michael Vick. His actions of course was sickening and just plain stupid. But in my opinion, I feel that PETA is going in the wrong direction with this issue. I feel that victory for PETA is not to destroy Vick for his cruel actions. I feel that the organization should instead try to reach out to him further, and help him as a person. The past is the past and can never change, but the present can bring change for the future. PETA has that opportunity to further change Michael Vick and steer him in the right direction rather than damaging him. I feel that doing this will not only benefit Vick, but the PETA organization in a very positive way.

I feel that what Mike Vick did was wrong but, people kill deers and cock fighting chickens everyday but, how many of them are locked up. Come on PETA is not god and who are you to judge anyone to say that he shouldn't be able to play in the NFL again. I hate that about you people always pre-judging people. I have seen on the news here in Georgia in the last week about someone locking up dogs in a van and they died have PETA protested againist them.

Please!!!!!!! u all need to give it a rest!!! Mick Vick has served his time for his crime. Get over it! He paid the price required by law. For you all to say he does not deserve a second chance at life because of a dog you all are soooooo out of touch with all things real. You act like people are perfect. Be glad that he has reformed and changed. Thanks to what you do for animals, a person who wasnt so considerate of them now IS! Consider that a success and reform and a job well done.

And for you all who liken his crime to that of Hitler and the Jewish Genecide and Serial Killers like Jeffery Damer....SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!
You DISGRACE these wonderful familes that have lost loving family members. These people WISH their family memmbers could have received the treatment that the Vick Dogs received. They would prbly have had more time w/ their other wise desceased family members. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!!!!!!

God forgives and atones ... YOu all should try and do the same.

If you had to pay for all your wrong doings done ...especially in your youth, you would all be under prisons and jails RIGHT NOW!!

There is something I think that needs to be clarified here:

1. Vick has a conditional reinstatement - meaning if he screws up once he's done.

2. He will not be fully reinstated until middle of the season.

3. He has yet to be signed on for a team, and he has to be before pre-season last time I checked. He must also make all the practice sessions or he will not be allowed to play.

4. He WILL NOT PLAY regardless until he is fully reinstated.

I just wanted to see all the facts here before I read more posts saying that they won't watch teams because Vick's on them - he hasn't signed on to one yet.

Posted by: Mel | July 28, 2009 11:02 AM

I am sooo sick n tired of everyone talking about what Vick did. Granted I love animals with all my heart, but he has paid his debt. We had a Sheriff's deputy who was busted for a dog fighting ring as well, but I didn't see PETA anywhere nor commented about it. Vick has or had money and I feel that's why PETA is making such a big deal about it. Stop Please!!!

Posted by: Lisa | July 28, 2009 11:08 AM

Shame on the NFL, I will boycot and hopefully protest if i can get to the outside of the arena. This is a outrage how stupid can the NFL be. I love football and will hate the team that picks him up even if it's my favorite team.

Can't wait to see him back. He served his time in jail and is moving on with his life. Let's allow him to do it.

Posted by: Joe Smith | July 28, 2009 11:20 AM

First off, its a Conditional, he cannot play in regular season games. And second, Donte Stallworth and Leonard Little KILLED a man and got veery little jail time. And Little is still in the league. I just think that killing humans is a far worse crime then killing dogs. They are horrible though.

Posted by: Chris Z | July 28, 2009 11:20 AM

Here is my solution and how I handled it. I emailed Roger Goodell and Jim Rome, as well as immediately canceled my Direct TV Package and made them notate that it was due to Vick's reinstatement. I urge all others to do the same; the NFL is not worth selling your soul! [Oh, and btw, I will be sending all my old memorabilia to Goodell. It's meaningless now. We ought to plan a mass mailing day where he gets boxes of crap; stuff that used to represent memories and now represents a league that let's Vick be one of its elite. Ridiculous!)

My Email to them:

Direct TV Canceled...
To: Roger.Goodell2@nfl.net, rome@haveatake.com

...due to Vick reinstatement. 15+ years of glorious football and a customer-service relationship single handedly destroyed by your decision to reinstate Vick. This was your chance at legacy Goodell, and you made yourself look like a cowardly pussy instead. Good going! Look for my box of NFL memorabilia from times past coming to your office soon; they hold no more value for me. And don't look for any more of my hard-earned money to go to your no-values league. The NFL becomes more and more like the WWF and NASCAR every day; way to play to the common denominator and de-class what were legions that came before this one individual. I often wonder what makes Michael Vick's "rights" so important as to sully an entire league; only you know Goodell. Nobody else can see it.

Baseball it is! Goodbye NFL.

I will not support the NFL by buying team logo clothes or going to a game or even watching a game on TV if it supports Micheal Vick. No second chances for dog killers.

Posted by: Ellen Main | July 28, 2009 11:28 AM

Condemning the man before he as a chance to repent and show he is a changed man makes you worse then he was or still is. How many of you cried or showed love for MJ after he died? The Crimes do not out weigh the man or the ability to change and become a better man. Vick has that opportunity. Why would you deny the man his chance to use his God given talent to help make him a better person. I wish Vick the best and I hope he becomes a better person. Oh and to the people that ask how the NFL could reinstate him. Its a business move. It was most likely a move to keep him out of the UFL. He would bring instant creditably to the upstart league. The NFL doesn't want to take a chance in having a rival in the near future.

Posted by: L | July 28, 2009 11:32 AM

It's always about money. Money gave Vick a reduced sentence. Gave Vick the ability to bread and abuse animals in mass quantity. NFL makes money from its players and sponsors. If we say flat out that we will not buy any commercial products advertised by the NFL if Vick finds a team, then the scales are tipped in favor of justice.

Posted by: amiabledave50 | July 28, 2009 11:43 AM

Vick electrocuted, hanged, drowned, shot, and slammed poor innocent dogs to death. He also tied down his female dogs to be raped. The result? The NFL wants him to play again where he will be cheered on by millions of fans and will be paid millions of dollars. Adulation and money to a dog torturer and killer. Sick.
The best way to protest Vick and the NFL is to contact and boycott those companies like Nike and Pepsi who pay huge sums of money to advertise their product during the televised games.
No company wants the bad publicity of sponsoring a game that Vick is in.
Hit the NFL where it hurts the most, the wallet.

Posted by: Brad | July 28, 2009 12:06 PM

I thought the supporters of PETA were supposed to be kind, loving people. After reading some of these HATEFUL comments it is clear that some of you are just evil spirits who on a bad day could possibly do harm to a human ("I hope they throw beer bottles at him and knock him right on the noggin" Lyberty). So, are you any better than Mike Vick? Go ahead and boycott the NFL, the team that picks him up or the man but is that going to really move your cause forward. I am sure the ASPCA has been forced to euthanize 1000 times the number of dogs Mike Vick had (while he was incarcerated). So for all of you evil spirits, why don't you use your energy to fight the real issues and stop pretending to be animal lovers just so you can be belittle somebody.

Posted by: Janice Bohnert | July 28, 2009 12:40 PM

the fact Donte Stallworth got less of a sentence than Vick doesn't mean Vick's punishment was too harsh. It's means Stallworth's was too lenient. I personally believe any major felony conviction should prevent playing in the NFL. Vick has a right to make a living but that doesn't mean play football. let him use his "skills and talents" somewhere else.

Posted by: Tom | July 28, 2009 12:43 PM

Posted by: Pat Potter | July 28, 2009 12:44 PM

Beware of all or nothing thinking. By saying things like "I hope that dog killer never gets to play again", you may be failing to see the opportunity for your organization. If you allow him to be sorry and demonstrate that he has changed his thinking then perhaps his fame can help your cause. Just a thought!

I really don't care if Michael Vick "payed his sentence". He is NOT just average Joe Citizen. Players in the NFL make an excessive amount of money and have media and notariety that normal citizens will not have a glimpse of. The man is an ADMITTED dog killer. He is NOT a role model. I think he should be banned from professional sports for LIFE. And PETA should protest the NFL and any team that is dumb enough to sign him.

The word's most famous animal torturer has been given back his multi-million dollar job! He'll be in good company among the NFL's (past and present) high salary rapists, murders, spouse beaters, and juicers.

When I heard the news of Michael Vick being reinstated I was delighted. I'm an animal Lover as well but, I am also a child of GOD and there is a thing called FORGIVING that comes into play with me. He has suffered by losing his job and going to jail and if those who harm people can be forgiven and let go, why can't Michael Vick be forgiven. I think it is a mean spirited act to protest against any job that will hire him in this case the NFL than help educate him about animals. There are other things that can be done. After all, look what you are doing for the cannibal! Ugggggh now that is disgusting!
I love animls, I don't condone what Mike Vic has done, but he has served his time and deserves to make a living! GOD will forgive so can YOU!

I love my dog, he was rescued and near death when I adopted him, he's now a healthy bundle of joy.

Please don't exploit Michael Vick for your cause. Vick has been punished, suffered tremendous losses, is in painfull debt, not too much abusive pressure on him for this season.

He's helped PETA's cause for his wrong doings as a famous person, it's has brought attention too PETA. Now it's time to move on, he's been abused for his prior abusives, let's not exploit his fame more for our personal gain and greedy self satisfactions.

Posted by: Ted | July 28, 2009 01:18 PM

Forgiveness? Okay, I understand the redemption/christianity side of that argument, and sure I'll grant him a bit of forgiveness for demonstrating some remorse. What I don't understand is how he gets his high paying job and superstar lifestyle back? He killed and maimed dogs on a massive scale, and the verdict still isn't in on the murdered people that were involved in his dog-fighting ring. America is entitled to its role-models, but are extremely violent "rehabilitated" criminals really on the same level as those non-criminals in the NFL who always demonstrate commendable behavior? It seems like we're not that different from the Romans: we worship our gladiators, regardless of the price it takes on our moral compass.

Posted by: Justin | July 28, 2009 01:25 PM

I don'[t understand why he was let back into the NFL. He is a dirty bastard!!!He held dog fights. And if the dogs didnt want to fight, they would be killed. So either way, if they fought or refused, they would die. I mean, the dogs fighting would either bleed to death, or their wounds would get infected. They obviously wouldnt go to a vet because the vet would want to know how they got so many freakin cuts and bite marks. If they did go to the vet, they would have to say,"Oh yeah,Im holding dog fights at my house and this one went in like 10 times." Yeah, they wouldnt want the vet to call the police. And seriously,he only went to jail for 2 yrs because the police found out about 2 of his probably 100s o dog fights.I mean seriously, if they found out about 2 fights, don't you think he would have had more than 2.And he should've gotten more than 2 yrs.I mean, the dogs don't have a choice. They're brought to a fighting room and get killed one way or the other. They really dont want to fight. And if they do,its because they were raised that way by their crappy owners. And why did they accept him back.Other than the fact that he's a good player, they didn't even think about his crime.Or the dogs that died. And do they really want to look bad because they have a criminal an their team?Their choice was just a bunch of bull.I want to go down there and have a protest against thier crappy decision.I'm going to start an email and inform people about them and hopefully get them to put their name on it.I'm going to ask people to put thier name in a jar so I can have proof of how many people want him unavialable. And hopefully that will get their attention to their bad decision. And a few other things, like having 100s of people to come and protest from chat rooms.

Its funny how all these comments don't really mean a thing due to God having his way with Vick in this matter!!! Vick's actions were very inappropiate to say the least, but we all have made mistakes great or small but nevertheless they were made! I bet most of the Vick haters on here are so called Christians? Read your bibles a little deeper and learn of forgiveness!!!! I'm wishing you and your family the best Michael!!!! Remember this man has children and you are killing their fathers bond with them when you say dumb s--T!!!

I have 3 dogs. I love them so very much. I also understand what Vick did was very wrong. However, the fact is he fully PAID for his mistake. both in $, shame, and time. All of you who posted "shame on NFL", have you not done any crime. You may have done a crime against another human that you did not know about but you never paid. WHAT more do you want Vick to do. You have to forgive him. Like I said I have 3 dogs that I love very dearly however it is time from vick to be forgiven.

I am a life long Republican with out much in common with P.E.T.A. I eat steak, wear leather, and have never found anything that I agreed with really. I think that Michael Vick is a disgusting person. Anyone that would do the things that he did should not be rewarded with "professional" contracts. Goodell has really missed the mark on this one. This was his chance to tell players that the N.F.L. would not tolerate this type of behavior and that murder is murder. I hope that P.E.T.A. can get 1,000 barking dogs outside of every game that Vick attends and Goodell's office every day until Vick is removed from the N.F.L.

Give me a break.. this is non-sense! He paid his dues, leave him alone!

Posted by: Bruce | July 28, 2009 01:50 PM

I really don't know why it is said he has no money and needs to go back to work. I saw a pic of him kissing his girlfriend at his home a couple months ago when he was on house arrest and it was a beautiful house on the water. Broke my a**. What is wrong with his construction job, he can actually step into the real world now. Welcome to the paycheck that the majoritiy of Americans make.

With that being said I am torn on the subject. He took part in horrific, unspeakable acts by choice. I personally would have liked to see part of his punishment be that he had to get submerged and shocked and tortured. But I would have been ok with the NFL thing IF he takes time to go to schools talk to children about what he did was wrong, become an advocate to stop this horrific abuse. And speak to Americans that he has been rehabed and understands what he did vs just being upset that he got caught and lost money. But none of that will ever happen without MAJOR steps on Vicks part. I will not support the NFL team he signs to and will boycott what I can that is related to the NFL. I think for me it is hard because I have seen that a good chunk of Vick's dog HAVE been rehabed and living the life they should be. Instead of given a death sentence they were given life and suceeding with it. The Vick dog's have become a great advocate for animal abuse, dog fighting and the life they can lead after fighting. Vick has a chance to become a great advocate and do something special with the rest of the time he has, now whether he takes the oppertunity to change thousands of lives will show if he really has been rehabed or not.

Posted by: Alicia | July 28, 2009 01:56 PM

Good for him. He did his time and needs to go back to work now. Protest all you want, it won't hurt the NFL machine.

Posted by: dan | July 28, 2009 01:57 PM

Michael Vick is not sorry for what he has done. If I was Roger Goodell I would have put him on a years suspension after imprisonement. After one year then I would re-evaluate his eligibility to enter into the NFL. During that year I would monitor what Michael did with his extra time. Did he help out dogs with similar situations? Did he put his time to good causes and non-profits? Did he speak out against these violents acts? I guarantee you the only remorse this guy feels is for himself. What a bad example the NFL has set. This is just another case where bad behavior gets rewarded and redemption is just another NFL commisioner away.

Posted by: Chrissy | July 28, 2009 01:58 PM

Why are the holier-than-thou-"christians" pointing fingers at animal advocates??? Where were the holier-than-thou "christians" when he committed such horrible crimes against these helpless dogs???
Children look up to people in sports and being that he is black a lot of black kids will admire him and think it is alright to have dogs fight and be killed. All children need better role models than someone like Vick. Shameful!!!Vick's sentence of 18 months is a joke, he should have received more. These are the perks of being a football player.

Posted by: AAG | July 28, 2009 02:03 PM

Well, I suppose people who say give forgiveness, If Michael Vick killed somebody next or he came to the person's house and raped their mom or daughter they would probably think twice about saying "well let him be he said he's sorry, so if he rapes my kid and says sorry all is forgiven"

Posted by: Jeff | July 28, 2009 02:06 PM

Why is Michael Vick, including any other famous person, a role model to children? I always looked up to my parents to be honest. I never really cared what Michael Jordan did in his offtime, but I knew he could put the ball in the bucket. Michael Vick did his time, is in debt, and should be allowed to make a living and help an NFL team win a superbowl. Athletes are people who run, throw, hit, and jump higher than average people and asking them to be role models is stupid. Parents should spend more time with their children so they can look up to them, not the guy slam dunking or swimming in a pool (Phelps). Get a life people, he did more time in prison than murderers and rapists, both of which are far worse than killing a dog!!! Thats right, human life is more important than an animals any day.

Posted by: Kevin | July 28, 2009 02:21 PM

Talk about not understanding the other side of the argument. It's sick- seeing so many people actively seek out the PETA website to voice support for "GOD", "Forgiveness" and Michael Vick. Religion offers so many great excuses to get away with really horrible atrocities. Forgiveness is the most effective excuse of them all. How screwed up in the head do some people have to be to think this guy deserves more money and status, after all of this?

Posted by: Justin | July 28, 2009 02:29 PM

This is ridiculous, Vick served his time in prison which is more than any other of his defendants. Why would you not let his resume his career. If he worked at McDonalds nobody would care but because he is an exceptional athlete and a professional who gets paid to play a sport, he doesn't deserve another chance. He is remorseful and therefore has a full right to return to his chosen profession.

Posted by: Stephan | July 28, 2009 02:30 PM

I am disgusted by Goodell's decision to reinstate Vick. I only hope no nfl team is stupid enough to hire him. I know we can count on PETA to follow this & make things miserable for any team that does hire him.

I believe this would not be the first time that a criminal has gone back to the NFL after doing time. I dont believe it would be a first for the NBA either.

I would say let the guy work and make a living. He will not be a role model to my kids ever, but that will not change regardless of where he works. If your kid(s) have pro athletes as role models, then you must be a lousy parent.

My real issue is with our US law being soft on animal abuse cases.

Posted by: JuanMa | July 28, 2009 02:35 PM

Instead of coming down on a man who was caught and paid his debt, why don't you people go after the people that are STILL dog fighting!

Posted by: Steve Pryor | July 28, 2009 02:40 PM

it is my sincere hope that vick will be able to show the children that look up to him that what he did was horrible. I think PETA should take another look at this...with the right marketing he can help to bring their causes to the limelight. Have him do commercials for you, do public awareness for you. We need to see if he is truly sorry and this is the way to do it.Have it work to your advantage PETA...and think of all the animals it could help!

Posted by: heather mchale | July 28, 2009 02:42 PM

KEEP the conVICK OUT OF THE NFL...or, neuter him, whichever.

Posted by: Tim O. | July 28, 2009 02:48 PM

well gee jeff, if you equate your child with a dog then I submit you have other issues that need to be addressed that really have nothing to do with Michael Vick.

Posted by: Lynne | July 28, 2009 02:53 PM

First Off - Roger Goodell has absolutely no business running the NFL, he should be fired immediately. That person needs to be someone who has integrity, morals, and an absolute zero tolerance for players who intentionally commit acts of violence, be it against people or animals. The key word for those who missed it is INTENTIONALLY!

Secondly - Those who say "He made a mistake, give him a second chance", obviously don't understand the difference between a mistake and an intentional, deliberate, continuous, act. In the Vik's case, it was no mistake, not even close by any stretch of the imagination. Someone smoking pot for the first time and getting caught, that's a mistake. Someone soliciting a prostitute for the first time and getting caught, that’s a mistake. Even a drunk driver getting behind the wheel and killing someone, could be called a mistake, a terrible mistake, but none the less a mistake. Vik didn’t simply make a MISTAKE, he intentionally, willingly, knowingly, and continuously tortured, hung, shot, and electrocuted dogs because they didn’t perform up to his standards, and in some cases just for pleasure. Unconscionable!!!!!

Ok then, let Vik play again, but only under the following conditions. For every interception he throws he’ll endure some type of torture. After the 3rd interception in a game, he’ll be electrocuted. If he fails to win the superbowl, he’ll be hung, or shot for his lack of performance, depending on the mood for the day. Seems fair enough. After it’s all over, the NFL could show (fake) some remorse and say they made a big mistake, be forced to take a couple years off the air, attend some counseling classes, then start back up like nothing ever happened. No worries about a comeback though, there will be plenty of hungry fans, ready to forgive and forget the "mistake", watering at the mouth to see their favorite team back in action.

Posted by: TMAN | July 28, 2009 03:00 PM

were talkin dogs here people, we kill babies everyday by abortion, why dont u guys turn passion for animals towards human beings, since when did a dog's life become more valueable than a human life?

Posted by: Derrick | July 28, 2009 03:08 PM

I do believe people should be forgiven and I saw an earlier post saying Vick did his time, but I don't feel he's truly paid for his crime. If he killed as many humans as he killed dogs, he'd be in jail forever. Why is a dog's life so much less important than a human's? The only species on this planet that thinks humans are the most important species is the human species. Did anyone else notice during Michael Vick's apology a a year or so ago that he did not apologize to the dogs he killed or harmed?

Posted by: Adam | July 28, 2009 03:10 PM

We can say whatever, but I can say that I'm disappointed as always about the way people on OUR side speak and how they make us look. We shouldn't look like uneducated simpletons, don't just post X is an IDIOT, Y is a POS, etc.
I think that it is very sad, what has happened, but we should also be happy, because a lot has been changed because of it, and hopefully more will continue to. So we should be excited to see what will happen in general in the future. I hope that great things happen, and I will have that hope held with me, that's how we should feel, we should want better and better things to happen. The majority of comments on here are so off, no understanding, and make us look stupid. We're above all that. The order of Genesis (which varies depending on each language or printing) means nothing here, carrying a gun in Iraq means nothing here, and boycotting product you never would have bought anyways means nothing.
I am glad to see what has happened to Vick. How many of you would have made it through Leavenworth? He wasn't at ClubFed like a lot of criminals. I'm not sticking up for him, I'm horrified at the idea of anything he's done, it make my stomach tie up in knots and hurt inside.
But, What good has come from it, and even just the ending of it, and how it has come to front of the public, right in America's face matters so much. A LOT of people had no idea that this stuff even went on, now everyone has an idea and is horrified by it.

Outraged by the actions of Roger Goodell to let Michael Vick play in the NFL, not only ever, but THIS YEAR! Tom Mariotty of ESPN had the best column I`ve read so far. The games themselves will be so overshadowed by Vick`s presence that it will be a huge distraction to the entire league. Is Goodell spineless? Apparently so. He wants to help Michael Vick have a chance to succeed? At the expense of the rest of the NFL and it`s fans? What a croc! He can`t even say that Vick lied to him - he "misled" him. Duh! We`re now supposed to cheer for this guy and whatever sorry team picks him up? No way - not this year, but ever for me. Apparently money will be the only thing they might listen to. Anybody with any compassion in their body should not attend any games Vick is involved in, nor watch them. We can contact the sponsors and let them know the ads they purchase will not be seen. We can buy no tickets or merchandise for whatever team signs him. The only thing Vick regrets is getting caught. As horrible as it would be, I wish the videos of what he did could be released for public viewing. The sadistic actions of what this guy did, and/or condoned, apparently need to be witnessed by some people to appreciate the horror of what he did. Why compare him to Leonard Little and Dante Stallworth? They should be severely punished also, but guess what? They did not INTEND to harm anything or anyone. Vick`s actions were calculated, planned and deliberate. A more appropriate comparison would be to Pete Rose, who purposely bet on baseball, knowing full well what he was doing ala Vick. What Vick did, in my mind, was 1000 times worse that anything Pete Rose did. And, guess what, Rose is still banned from baseball. So much for the "He has done his time," etc. Michael Vick has no business ever playing in the NFL again.

The first thing I did when I found out was cancel my NFL Sunday Ticket. I also gave my Titans tickets to the local Humane Society to auction off. I have to pitties and I love them. I don't want anything else to do with the NFL.

Let's suppose Michael Vick does get signed by a team. He reports the first day to practice and picks up his gear which consists of everything he needs to wash the team uniforms and towels.

Wash your sins away, Michael. After a season or two of that, you can get back to playing this foul, violent game.

I am so glad Los Angeles does not have an NFL team.

I cannot believe the things that are posted on this website. Its sickening to know that there are people who think like this. It's ok though because GOD forgives. Honestly, you can boycott, yell, scream, but at the end of the day, he has peace with his Creator and has paid his price for the crime he committed. Its a shame that we are casting stones and im pretty sure that we are all perfect and do no wrong. Come on people....

His reinstatement is CONDITIONAL, and he will not be FULLY reinstated until the half of the season. I'm not a fan of him, but everyone deserves a job. He LEARNED his LESSON now, so please, let him be...

It is completely unacceptable that the
NFL would reinstate Mr. Vick. Why would the NFL want a man who has tortured, maimed and killed animals? There is no logic in their decision. If any team has the audacity to hire him, fans of that team should do whatever
necessary - boycott games - sending a very strong message Mr Vick's and past criminal deeds are not welcome in their city! We should all send the team
the same message. Hopefully, no team will hire him!

OMG!!!!I am a dog owner and lover OF OVER 20YRS. I am also an american who beleives in the justice system. When do we step over our boundries as the PETA family. Is it our job to cast stones? I think anytime someone spends time in Prison, that should be punishment enough. We donot need to stand in his way of making a living. As for the "role model" comments, we allow our kids to see worse on TV and the music videos. This is not what PETA is about is it? Im done casting stones. Let's get back to saving the animals.

Posted by: Jason | July 28, 2009 05:07 PM

I just don't quite understand what it is that the Vick anti reinstatement condoners want? The man committed some heinous crimes, yes. Our legal system then did exactly what it is supposed to when these crimes are committed which is convict him to federal prison, which he silently accepted and served. I am not personally an animal rights activist, however, I support them and anti-abortion activists and anti-racism activists, etc. People every day committ horrible crimes and have to pay the price for them whether they are against animals or not. Vick's payment was 1.5 years in federal prison and an $80 million loss. We let Leonard Little, Ray Allen, Daunte Stallworth, and Pacman Jones back into the NFL after convictions concerning manslaughter and we have no problem forgiving and reinstating them. But we cancel our football t.v. subscriptions and sell our season tickets for reinstatement for Vick? Football is what he is good at and it is his life work. If he turns it around and proves himself, then anyone who will cease to watch the games or support him should be ashamed.

Posted by: Mark | July 28, 2009 05:25 PM

He was given a second chance when he left prison. He has yet redeemed himself for his montrosities. NFL players are compensated for their abilities on and off the field. His actions against helpless animals prove he lacks abilities off the field. His skills on the field hold no value if they can't supplement his conduct off the field. He is a despicable person for torturing and killing defenseless creatures. His reinstatement to the NFL shows the avarice of the league and I will not be part of it. These dogs and all those who are forced into bloody death matches are victims of a system that recognizes monetary compensation over dignity and respect for all living beings. If he plays in the NFL again we are turning our backs on those who respect and embrace life.

Posted by: Adrian | July 28, 2009 05:46 PM

Vick should not only be banned from the NFL but also from the country

Posted by: B.Simpson | July 28, 2009 06:14 PM

Michael Vick was not just involved in dog-fighting for six years. In the newspaper yesterday I read that he has been involved in the "sport" since he was eight years old!

I don't blame a young child who obviously was introduced to this by adults, but I do blame him since he became an adult at 18.

Whoever his parental units may be, they are not worth the powder to blow them up -- but Vick is responsible for his reprehensible adult behavior.

He is a sick sociopath, who if he hadn't had football as an outlet could easily have slipped into killing people --
as many killers are born by torturing and killing animals as kids.

Playing in the NFL is a PRIVILEGE, not a right. Goodell had more than enough reason to bar Vick for life -- the dogfighting (in which he was an enthusiastic participant), drug use and illegal gambling -- all of which he lied about to Goodell about initially. It's just sickening that the NFL Commissioner bowed to pressure from coaches and other players in pursuit of the almighty dollar.

May the rest of Vick's life be haunted by what evil he has done. I hope that he ends up a pathetic, anonymous pauper after his NFL days are done.
And that he rots in Hell after that..

Posted by: Princess P | July 28, 2009 06:15 PM

I like football well enough, but I love animals. I'll refuse to watch ANY game in which he participates. Has he paid his dues? According to the law, yes. Morally? I don't think so. If he wants to gain favor in my eyes, he should do some public service work in shelters, etc. So he lost a ton of money -- cry me a river. He can earn all that back. Show me some real rehab and I'll reconsider...

Posted by: cheewizz | July 28, 2009 06:41 PM

So let me get this staight. You want to protest a company because they are sponsors to the NFL. If revenues are greatly impacted those companies will need to layoff people. Do any PETA supporters work for one of the companies that sponsor the NFL? Would they possibly be impacted by the layoffs? I am not following that course of action.

Posted by: Thomas Smith | July 28, 2009 06:42 PM

I absolutely love animals, and I owned a wonder pit-bull, and I shutter at that thought of any harm being brought to him; however, to stand in judgment of an individual after they have paid such a heavy burden in the public eye is in itself inhumane and self indulgent. I am sure it was not the gentleman's desire to use a racist practice as a means of proving when a man has paid enough. It is the same concept that was used to justify preventing black people from voting. PETA has lost a great deal of respect from me, as I see that it too consists of hypocrites. I hope they are able to REDEEM themselves after such statements were made this evening on the ED show. I hope the outcry of the community will lead to the organization to reflect on their current position.

Posted by: Pandy96 | July 28, 2009 07:15 PM

Posted by: Steven | July 28, 2009 09:27 PM

Let's protest the NFL and all it's sponsors. I have told my teenage son and his friends what a bad example the NFL is setting, and if this is about money, let's make them lose money.

Posted by: Melinda Machado | July 28, 2009 10:39 PM

What made this story so unreal was that this man made so much money for playing football, a privelage and a dream for many a man, and for fun profitted off the torture of animals. For that, he does not deserve another chance with this dream job. His image is horrible, and now so is the NFL's. And any team that takes him will find out not only will they lose alot of money because of the economy, but also from the millions of dog owners that will be ashamed to watch or represent their team.

Posted by: Melinda Machado | July 28, 2009 10:49 PM

As long as we accept and support ridiculously high salaries for athletes and entertainers whose roles are completely non-essential for society, we should at least demand that such individuals act as role models for our children. Making millions for playing a game should be considered a privalege, not a right. Vick, who by his behavior has demonstrated that his only mistake was to get caught, has forfeited this right. If he did something essential for society, I would say to let him resume. But he didn't. Nobody "needs" Vick to play in the NFL for their wellbeing. So why should we allow him to return to such a privaleged role? His "second chance" was his exceptionally light sentence and the chance to get out and make amends. To do so doesn't require being in the NFL.

Posted by: On behalf of Henri | July 29, 2009 12:31 AM

Doesn't it strike anyone as mildly ironic that most of the people who think Vick-less is such a great guy have an obvious double-digit I.Q. and serious grammatical challenges?

Posted by: M1 | July 29, 2009 12:38 AM

Thank you Giants & Jet owners for confirming that you do NOT want Vick. My deepest appreciation to every Owner that confirms they do Not want Vick. To The owners that stated "We have NO interest in Vick, KUDOS!" To the owners that stated "We have our pick aleady, no room for Vick", well thanks too.

Dear NFL,
Yes, people are deserved a secnd chance, but and a VERY BIG BUT,when your organization makes money from the Sponsors & Merchandise sold to our Children, I ask you, when our kids youtubed 'VICK' they were unfortunately able to view GRAPHIC pictures & VIDEOS (prior to the website catching up & removing the links)will the NFL provide counselors for their grief? No, you did not think of that. No, you were not present when my 12 yr. old son pulled down his Notre Dame & Steelers posters & Flags & replaced them with Jeter Posters. Where were you when he called our dog into his room & hugged him & said "Mom, he soaked the dogs with hoses then ELECTROCUTED them!! Mom, it could have been KLAUS, he's a Rotweiler like the ones Vick Killed" My dog wagged his tail when he came Barreling up the stairs when my son called him, crinkling the posters on the bed that my son one cherished. My son hugged him & said WHY? Mom, what if he killed my best friend?

To the Sponsors & Marketing Directors,

Two Words: O.J. Simpson! In this financial Tsunami, would you RISK your job to make a prensentation to HERTZ to have their former spokesman do more commercials when he receives parole? At his trial they showed pictures of the murder, however, the media cannot show the pictures of the dogs as they are too disturbing to the public!

As a mother and a Marketing Queen, I assure any owner that signs Vick, that your organic & Sponsored web placement with be hit with protests that it will take an army of ROI trackers to seperate the consumers who want your product info, with the Boycott info. Raise your prices to pay the staff!

To any owner that signs Vick, Graphic Blimps- California blimp sells them for under $1000 and can be seen from every major highway and as long as it is on privat property you cannot miss the graphics when driving, or watching your game. What parent will want to their child to see that? In addition a whitepages.com reverse address lookup, a simple street name will give you every name and address on that block and every surronding area that will provide an INSTANT MAILING LIST for flyers that will have the photos of dogs being shot. Petsmart & petsupply stores and every Pet expo will pass out to tens of thousands of consumers flyers of 'VICKS top PICS' showing the horrific torture!

To Mr. Vick,
You want a job, great, so does the 10.5 % of American Public that are unemployed, get online and apply to the Humane Society, or unemployment.

News Flash- it's about the $, hit them where it hurts copy and paste all comments on this site to the 'request for info' on the Sponsors websites, they will have an IT nightmare!

Keep saying SPONSORS, TICKETS, MERCHANDISE BOYCOTT, there is not a player, owner or Manufacture Sponsor that will support the signing of VICK!

Get a jib Vick, re-evaluate your maturity, since you are too immature to think that you would be an ASSET, you are SICK and a PR Liability!

Hi... while I believe in the basic mission of PETA, I dont agree with how PETA goes about supporting their causes... HOWEVER you all have my FULL SUPPORT against the NFL and Michael Vick!

Posted by: Peggy | July 29, 2009 01:40 AM

I am totally disguisted that this human being is able to come back to the NFL and represent a "role model" for the youth and old! What is positive about a massive dog fighting opporation?? Michael Vick LIED about his involvement in his direct role in hanging, drowning, shooting, electrocution, and slamming dogs continuously to break the backs of these dogs. Why? For some more money-he wasn't making enought in the NFL? This type of person plays God and the Devil and the same time.I would never support any team that took Vick on simple because they care about the success of the team versus setting a good example for society. I have never felt such ill feeling towards a person-torturing such an innocent animal. In my whole heart he will never change and he is an waste of space and in america. Just because he is famous-he is roaming free! I have four dogs and if anyone even thought one negative thought about them-they better be extremely fast runners! I always said, "You can never trust a man who does not get along with mans best freind" As harsh as it may be, he made his bed and now must lye in it-hopefully without a NFL career! But, what I do hope is that if he is picked-up, there is a major ralley protesting it! He made the lives of my dogs miserable-its now his turn!

No man that does this should be rewarded coming out of prison. Maybe in a year or two I might believe it's ok but not NOW

Posted by: rebecca | July 29, 2009 05:03 AM

I don't believe he's sorry for what he has done, but very sorry that he got caught. Shame on the NFL for reinstating this morally reprehensible thing! I guess it really is just about money.

Posted by: Deirdre | July 29, 2009 05:25 AM

Mike Vick should never be allowed to play anything professional ever again. This should be treated a tragic event, and not just fixed with a rehabilitation at our expense. If he ever gets signs I will never support the team he plays for, I will loss all respect for the family that owns the team and if the state does not step in and have a say I will not be surprised. When will this stop steroid, Limo drivers killed, Dogs forced to eat other dogs so they know what it is to kill. If you feel jail fixes everything, you know what I am about to say.. Think twice before you say he should play, he learned his lesson (he is still in jail) nothing good can come from him playing.. Nothing can compare to the sound of the crowd. He should never be allowed to hear it the same way.. SORRY VICK YOU LOSE...

Posted by: DBJ | July 29, 2009 07:57 AM

Any team that is dumb enough to take him has a PR nightmare on their hands. We'll be at every game, every team event...protesting. Go ahead--make our day!
Aside from that.....feed his family? The guy had half his family involved in this dog fighting ring....they can fend for themselves. Secondly, sure, let him rehabilitate himself...but most folks who have a felony on their record end up bagging groceries.....let him do that like any other ex felon who has to try to 'make it'. Don't give him millions of dollars and don't worry about him being a role model for kids....athletes are just that.....people who compete for money....not role models. Teach your kids to look up to better people. Activists, scholars, artists who are positive....not over testosteroned men banging around a field for millions of dollars....

He has paid the debt that legal system has said fits this crime. If you are mad with anything be mad with the legal system. Let the man live his life.

Posted by: Myrick | July 29, 2009 09:27 AM

I don't understand the hatred that so many of you have towards Michael Vick. I love dogs just as much as the person next to me and I hate the WHAT Michael Vick did... I don't hate MICHAEL VICK. He did his time. PETA is not above the law. Let the man show that he can be good. Let the man be a comeback story. Let the man help children out and live a life that PETA approves of. You can't be so full of hate, people. Forgive and live.

Posted by: Bob | July 29, 2009 10:19 AM

This is disgusting that Mike Vick is going to play in the NFL again and get millions. Peta should write to Roger Goodell immediately to ban Mike Vick from the NFL forever. Mike Vick should work in animal shelters and help dogs instead of wanting selfishly play in the NFL again. Please no teams should sign him and nobody should attend or watch any NFL games again.

Posted by: Tracy Faraoni | July 29, 2009 10:50 AM

I specifically came and checked out the PETA website after I heard that Michael Vick has been reinstated to the NFL. Michael Vick and the NFL association is a disgrace. I hope that Peta is all over this and makes this man's life difficult. Yes, maybe he served his time..(not enough for the crime committed as far as I'm concerned) but that doesn't mean that he gets to go back to his former place of employment (NFL) and get his job back. I can't think of any other professions that would allow that. I am a teacher. If I got arrested, thrown in jail, and was found guilty of this same crime that Michael Vick was found guilty of, there is NO WAY I WOULD BE ALLOWED BACK INTO THE CLASSROOM AGAIN TO TEACH!!!! Why does this piece of garbage get the opportunity to go back to his high paying, high profile job. I understand that no teams have picked him up yet, but I just don't feel he deserves the chance. He knew full well what he was doing and what he was looking at while those poor dogs were mauling each other. Let him find another job in this lifetime. Perhaps picking up dog s**t in an animal shelter.

Posted by: Jes | July 29, 2009 11:02 AM

Okay, Vick has been reinstated by the NFL, and will likely face a suspension before he can ever play in a regular season game. What he was involved in was totally heinous and cannot be defended. HOWEVER: he has paid his debt to society, a debt levied on him by our Judicial System and now deserves a chance to turn his life around and make a living. He has lost two years of his life (yes, there were dogs that lost their lives altogether, I know), and lost his way of making a living. Completely and totally HIS fault. He made a terrible mistake. Who here has never made mistake? I'm betting no one.

No one here can know if he's apologetic for what he's done, and cannot pretend to know. Some of the comments on here are pure comedy, and some are downright moronic. the comment about former concentration camp guards is nearly offensive. You're comparing lives of millions of human beings to dogs. I'm a dog lover and despise what Vick was a part of. However, you CANNOT compare that in any way to the Holocaust.

There are players in the NFL, as well as every walk of life that have killed PEOPLE (accidentally or not) and are walking free. Sorry, but that's a bigger issue in my mind.

All this talk of boycotts, protests, bans, and whatever else will do nothing. If an NFL team wants to sign him, that's their right.

Everyone knows how this organization feels, but the man has done his time. Let it go.

Posted by: Will | July 29, 2009 11:30 AM

Some of you sound like forgiveness does not exist. Sure he was very wrong and received 2 years in jail. Some of you seem like he should of gotten life. Grow up.

Posted by: Pete M | July 29, 2009 11:59 AM

Why are so many TV anchors so eager to defend a CONVICTED FELON, a CONVICTED FELON who of a VIOLENT CRIME?
Give Vick a job, a second chance, but DO NOT reward him with his "old job." How many Non-Violent CONVICTED FELONS have their old jobs waiting for them once they have "paid a debt" to society?

Who would want a kid looking up to a "person" who tortures animals ~ are we that desperate for athletes and role models?

SHAME on the NFL!

So everyone who goes to prison shouldn't be allowed to get a job after they get out? The guy is a dirtbag but keeping him from having a job would just make him go back to a life of crime. We should forgive but not forget.

Roger.Goodell2@nfl.net

Please write the commissioner of the NFL reminding him that what Vick did was not a MISTAKE, but murder, torture, and violent. He should never have been reinstated. What has happened to our Country when winning a "game" is more important than a defenseless animal.

Posted by: Tracy | July 29, 2009 01:38 PM

I really don't believe that Michael Vick is sorry for what he did to all those poor pit bulls.
He is a low life and given the chance to be reinstated and earn millions, he will say and do anything. I would not pay two cents to watch him play football. I will never be a fan of any team that hires him.
The only way that I could ever stomach him is if he devotes many years in the service of teaching young men to respect life, all life, and to show kindness to animals. If he takes the opportunity to work with the HSUS and preach against animal cruelty, then I MIGHT see a way to give him a second chance but it would take a lot of work for him to earn any respect from me.

Posted by: Kathryn | July 29, 2009 03:24 PM

wow cindy.. welcome back??? we missed you????? Get real!!!! He should have spent way more time in jail and should never be allowed to play sports again. People who make minor mistakes have backround checks on them when applying for a new job and it is hard for them to move on with their lives evern after they have paid for their crimes. Let Mr. Vick have the same backround check... and not be able to work again.

Posted by: Diogy | July 29, 2009 04:25 PM

As a person who loves the NFL and cannot wait til the season begins, I can say I am truly disgusted by this. If any team decided to let them play, not only are they making a huge mistake, but a costly one to many fans of footbal. We all saw what he has done these dogs and never know if he will ever do that again. How can they give him another chance and say it is okay for the public to accept him? Children will think second chances will always be one step away, but inreality people whouldn't serve too many 2nd chances. What he did was cruel, mental, and unethical. He needs to go to pet rehab. I think this is a bad idea if any NFL team wants him. Yaya, everyone deserves a second chance, but why to someone who intentially know they were doing something wrong to begin with?

Posted by: bijoux719 | July 29, 2009 04:44 PM

Oh, and those of you so concerned with Vick getting his superstar life and money back, think about this: he is the most vilified man in the country at this moment. He probably could walk down the street now, and that's not b/c people would want his autograph. He has a LOT of work to do to regain any sort of respect from millions of people. Believe me, he has not, or will not get off easy. Add this to the millions of dollars in debt he will likely be for the rest of his life, and nothing will ever come easy for him.

So, those of you on your soap boxes preaching about what should/should not happen for Vick, take a step back and think big picture.

Posted by: Will | July 29, 2009 04:50 PM

Give Mike Vick a break. I find it unbelieveable that you care about the treatment to animals and do not care about the treatment to a human being. He has served his punishment and owes PETA nothing. What gives you the right to determine whether he makes money playing football.
Dogfighting is cultural and continues as I write this comment. Use your resources to educate people about this act and acknowledge that dogfighting did not begin with Michael Vick. Get SERIOUS!!!

Posted by: Paula | July 29, 2009 06:07 PM

"He made a terrible mistake. Who here has never made mistake? I'm betting no one."

Not a "mistake".

It was his sick, violent, depraved and ILLEGAL hobby. He did this over and over and over again. He killed dog upon dog, and other animals, as well. All for the pleasure of seeing animals being tortured, screaming in pain and finally dispatched in the most horrific manner possible.

This was not a single "mistake" such as a DUI or something.

Vick is a violent thug and a psychopath. A common criminal.

I have no doubt Vick will be busted by the end of the year for a drug offense or he'll be charged for another act of violence or sexual offense.

All that money and privilege and this fool threw it all away to indulge his disgusting bloodlust. Not just a thug, but an idiot, as well.

Back in the day it was "go to jail or join the Army" but I see the future now..."go to jail or join the NFL and become a millionaire" What percentage of NFL players have committed crimes anyway??? Yeah I bet it was really rough for Vick in prison. He was probably the biggest and the most notorious guy on the cell block and therefore became the INMATE IN CHARGE. And the house arrest... seriously who's joke was that???? To me, that would've been a vacation!!! Yeah my heart bleeds... PLEAZE.!!! He's grown. He knew what he was doing, and he has to live with it. Yeah he says he's sorry....SORRY HE GOT CAUGHT!!!! ((When a pedophile serves his time and gets out, no one is screaming then "give him another chance" or "He's served his time" or "he said he was sorry"...For all you who defend vick) Hey Vick, whatever happened to eye for an eye??

UNBELIEVABLE!

I am shocked, what a disgrace! If you ask me, he should've gotten a far worse punishment than he recieved. Indeed, he is back in the game but he will pay someday. I really hope so. His actions were barbaric, and will never be forgiven. Atleast, not by me. Ugh!

Posted by: Gina | July 30, 2009 12:38 AM

All the money this P.O.S. was making for playing a game and he chose to find his pleasure in dog torture and killing knowing it was illegal. He does not desirve the honor of being in a sport where you are idolized. He should still be doing time. Had it not been for his high priced lawers he was able to afford through sports. Normal people would still be in jail no leg band no house arrest..Special treatment I say no to letting him play ever...He had his chance and blew it...

Michael Vick has done something wrong, admitted his mistakes, publicly apologized to everyone, including the children he influenced, and served his sentence. The NFL has reinstated him with the strictest of guidlines. He has also agreed to educate children about dogfighting. This alone is a win for PETA, Michael Vick playing football in the NFL and educating "at risk youth" about dogfighting? Everyone should realize the potention he has to combat dogfighting. He, I believe, had the top selling Jersey. People need to think about progression and not just punishment.

Posted by: JEAN | July 30, 2009 12:59 PM

This makes me sick!!!! I will no longer support the NFL! They should be ashamed of themselves. Michael Vick is a very sick sick person, and I honestly don't care if he served his time or not. Good thing the NFL is not in charge of more because they would probably have convicted sexual predators teaching preschool!!!!!!

Thank you PETA. I am so sick of all these celebrites and rich people getting off light from vicious, terrible crimes, when common people have to sit here and watch it! Where is the justice? Take his house and all his money he made. He doesn't deserve a dog house. Maybe then he'll be sorry. He isn't now. How hard is it to find another quarter back? He made his millions already - let someone else have a chance.
I am looking for petitions to sign against him and the NFL. Where can I find those? Emails don't cut it as far as I'm concerened.

Posted by: Robert | July 31, 2009 10:35 PM

go to the games. all of them. bring video cameras. the idea is to record the faces of all local business owners who attend and post them on local websites for their friends and neighbors to see who supports NFL. like it or not, those who attend the games are supporting those who kill dogs. Vick was convicted for a heinous act, not a speeding ticket. he has forfeited the right to play. by allowing him back in the NFL is condoning such brutality. all people who love their animals, show up at opening day with your cameras. if the owners persist and let Vick play then the boycott is on. refuse to do business with any company that gives money to such an organization.

Posted by: wjb | July 31, 2009 11:12 PM

This man is only sorry that he was caught. He has no remorse. There is no way that a short stint in jail can make up for the horrible things he and his cohorts did to those poor defenseless dogs. He should never play again. Why not take away something he loves?

Posted by: Wilma Polk | August 1, 2009 03:30 AM

Mel Mel- are you that stupid? No one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes, but I can say that I have not and will never abuse, fight, torture or kill any living thing. Vick didn't just rob some little old lady the on street or cheat on his wife, he betrayed the public and did barbaric/illegal acts.
And I can very well judge this monster all I want and not want him in my community or back playing ball or getting rich again and children looking up to him. The only thing this idiot is sorry about is he got caught. Get a brain.

Posted by: Mary | August 1, 2009 08:09 AM

We are season ticket holders for the Steelers. No team should allow Vick to play. He lost that privelege being an animal abuser. I am also a member of PETA. Vick is sick.

Posted by: lorraine slaby | August 1, 2009 09:12 AM

It's up to fans and animal lovers to keep this jerk where he belongs -- outside the public sports machine that makes players role models for kids. Let me reiterate what the ASPCA said: "Mr. Vick participated in a six-year pattern of illegal activity. His plea clearly stated that along with these activities, he savagely electrocuted and beat dogs to death after they lost their brutal fights. It is this barbarism that sets the crime apart. This was not a one-time transgression or crime of passion--this was a multi-year pattern of behavior that demonstrates a startling lack of moral character and judgment." ASPCA President and CEO Ed Sayres. I think it's noble that the ASPCA would work with Vick to rehabilitate him, but I don't think that lets him off the hook. We need to put pressure on ANY team that hints of interest. If you don't, we're all saying we agree that this behavior is acceptable to society!!!!

Posted by: AZThomahawk | August 1, 2009 03:40 PM

What Vick did was disgusting and reprehensible. PETA should continue with the pressure and criticism until he commits sucicide. Isn't that what PETA wants? Capital punishment for all thos who kills animals (except humans)

Posted by: NFLER | August 1, 2009 10:41 PM

What Vick did was just gut-wrenching (I mean come on what did the poor dogs do to deserve any of those awful things that he did to them???I love pitbulls!!!)He shouldn't have gotten out of this, he should have served his whole sentence!!! And it has been proven that people who kill animals in this manner are likely to start killing humans. Everyone pray that Vick has learned his lesson and will never do something this awful again (or worse, start doing stuff like this to people). God has the capacity to forgive and Vick is not worthless, so please Vick, start proving this lesson to everybody!!!

Posted by: haley | August 2, 2009 09:00 PM

I agree with H Ross- one more reason to contact the NFL and let them know that allowing Vick to play again could possibly be a danger to innocent bystanders and that allowing this guy to play again may put some people at risk. No offense but there are angry people involved here on both sides, and if some of these people want to voice themselves at a game, you never know, violence may break out.Someone innocent might be in the middle and get hurt. Please let the NFL know that Vick coming back is a bad decision. I wouldn't want my children to witness this.

Posted by: Donna | August 3, 2009 08:33 AM

I have to say that I disagree with a lot of the assertions regarding Michael Vick's return to the NFL. I think people often disregard the fact that Michael gave up nearly two years of his life in a federal prison. I'm not debating whether or not this was an adequate punishment for his actions. I'm merely saying that I don't think most of us really understand how intense a punishment that is. In our struggle to stop the enslavement of animals we have to remember that the US prison system functions as a form of Human enlavement. The Human storage facilities known as prisons have their roots in United States Slavery. And Michael Vick, like so many black american men, gave up his freedom. I'm not claiming that he is a victim. I'm merely saying that he has a served a severe punishment, one that most of us couldn't comprehend. He has spent his life developing one skill and that is to play football. If he can use that as a platform to not only change himself but also to educate young people about the realities of dogfighting, I think he is one of the few people that could really challenge the culture of animal abuse that exists in certain communities. If he does come back and continues to be a negative influence on our community he will lose his opportunity and his job. If he redeems himself it may in the end by save the lives of many animals by preventing thousands of young people from ever being involved in the mistreatment of dogs...

Posted by: Victorio | August 3, 2009 06:24 PM

Wow. Read just about every comment before my eyes started to bleed with all the "he killed dogs, he should die" Lets be honest, animals are killed all over the world by many different things, so are people, and i don't see anyone talking about some of the rapist out there. But when some dogs get killed all hell breaks loose. Get over it. 10-12 people won't watch the game, like they'll notice from the thosands of vick fans out there who wil watch.

Is there no such thing as giving someone a second chance? What Vick did was definately inexcusable, but my god everyone here is acting as if he is coming out of jail with no change of heart. Hopefully the 2 years in federal prison, which is probably more than most people posting here have spent in jail, has changed the man. I imagine it would me. And hell, I don't think I heard this much outrage over Donte Stallworth's one month in prison for killing a guy. Just give the guy a chance. He was obviously doing something dispicable, let's see how he's changed. I'm amazed at the number of people who want the man to suffer for the rest of his life. I'm also amazed at the numbers of people who apparently have ESP as they seem to know for a fact Vick has never felt any sense of remorse or guilt and never will. This hard heartedness is almost as disgusting in my opinion as Vick's dogfighting ring.

I work in a high school where we teach the children that they have to be accountable for their actions. That sometimes because of bad choices they make they might have to suffer long and hard for what they did. Michael Vick made very bad, sickening, choices not because he was hungry or homeless. He tortured defenseless animals for the FUN of it. Now he has to pay the price. Many children pay very hard prices for their choices and spend the rest of their lives in jail. Why are adults different. I feel if Michael Vick has really changed making millions again would be the least of his concerns. Redeaming himself would be his number one concern, maybe by working at a shelter, etc. That's a job, just not a million dollar job. He made his choice and gave up millions of dollars by doing so. For his sake I hope he has changed, but by his actions I don't think so.

So the Eagles signed this guy. I will not watch any of there games. I am listening to the head coach now. He sickens me. I use to respect him and the commissioner... But No more. Sad that they let him back in.... I can't believe Tony Dungy is supporting him... All I can say is the NFL is becoming a disgrace.

the Eagles are Pathetic!! Look for some REAL talent that did not get off on torturing dogs.....
SHAME on the NFL, oh, dont celebrate in the end zone for touchdowns - but? WElcome back dog MURDERERS with open arms.....So MANY issues with the Eagles - starting with the head coach.......The Raiders are starting to look classy all of a sudden.....
There will be NO superbowl ring for the Eagles...what a joke!

The people who talk about Stallworth obviously do not know what happened that night yes Stallworth was drunk however the guy he killed may he rest in peace was planning on comminting suicide and jumped in front of traffic there was no way that Stallworth would of been able to stop from hitting him even if he was sober so you need to get your facts straight. What happened to Stallworth was not completly his fault unlike Vick who put dogs against each other to fight just so he could make some money even though he was already making millions of dollars and the dogs that lost he would kill yes Vick is the bad guy here not Stallworth so stick to what you know people and dont fall into the Vick trap.

His comment was " he did not know
their was that many dog lovers".
How the Eagles can even look in
this disgusting man's face is beyond
me.
I hope the Eagles drown along with
him.
I do not think Eagles realize what they
just have done and their are more
dog lovers that I think they could
realize. Shame on them and their
whole team.

OK! So, now we have new laws in place for the NFL players and "everyday" average civilians? So, if I go out and kill somebody because I was driving drunk, I will only get 24 days in jail? And If I kill dogs I get to come out and get re-paid by millions of dollars! Give me a break! The NFL is a disgrace to our justice to system and to all mankind!

I am a multiple pet owner and also an Eagles fan. What Michael Vick did is not to be forgiven. And the thought of being given a second chance is absurd this is his 200++ chance because each time he allowed a dog to be tortured, trained to fight, then killed he could have stopped. But the business of dog fighting has been going on for many years and finally has the the attention of the public eye. Since the conviction of Michael Vick numerous websites and blogs are in place to expose the gangsters and killers that support the so called sport of dog fighting. Lets all keep up the pressure and expose these tortureous gangs that will continue to exist if we allow them to.

I understand Michael Vick committed a horrible, horrible crime. BUT, who are we to condemn him for the rest of his life. As children we are taught to give others a second chance. Prisons spend millions of dollars in an effort to educate and reform their inmates. They spend even more money trying to convince "good, upstanding, adults" to give these people a second chance. However, most of the good adults are unwilling to forgive. I'm not saying forget the crime he committed, but the man did pay the price and completed all phases of his punishment. Some may believe it wasn't enough, but once again who are we to argue w/the experts that were privy to information the public did not have. Furthermore, everyone has committed a crime; and yes its still a crime even if you weren't caught. Exceeding the speed limit by 5mph may seem "like no big deal" to most but tell that to the mom who's child was killed by a driver traveling 5 mph over the speed limit in a school zone. We want justice for the animals because they are living creatures w/feelings. Michael Vick is a living creature with feelings as well. In additin, it is true that many dogs were killed and had no second chance, many more went through a rehabilition program and the successful ones were "released". Why is it possible for an animal to be rehabilitated but not a person. Some will argue the dogs were taught to be that way by Michael Vick and their environment so its not their fault. Hmmm, wonder what environmental factors (and people) shaped Michael Vick before he was analyzed, counseled and educated as part of a rehabilitaion program; That, by the way, he successfully completed according to many experts.

I'm pretty sure that if I were a convicted felon that my employer would not give me back my job nor would any other employer with any integrity, moral, and ethical sense. Michael Vick should not be allowed to play in the NFL or any other professional sport. This baloney that he paid his debt and should be allowed back is just that--baloney! He is an entry level psychopath as is well documented that psychopaths begin with animals. What are we telling our young people who idolize these sports icons? That it is okay to commit a crime do the time and that all is forgiven and you are a hero again?! What can we do to stop this outrage?

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." Mohandas Gandhi ~
If you listen to Michael Vick speak in some recent interviews, he does not show sincere remorse for his heinous acts - but rather resentment for now being questioned as to whether suitable to play football again. He is quoted as saying "I understand (TO A CERTAIN DEGREE ) why some people might be upset about the things I did, but I spent time in jail so I deserve to play again" To speak in that way says he clearly does not understand what he has done - but rather resentful he got caught.
He financed and participated in this illegal operation for years which including maiming and killing innocent animals through viscous violent acts; gambling illegally, and lying to authorities when first questioned about his actions. Violence, cruelty, murder, illegal, liar, repeat offender; Don't these words have meaning to anyone? How many reasons do they need to banish Vick forever. The NFL commissioners, team owners and anyone else who support this person is just as guilty. If Michael Vick had a shred of decency he would re-dedicate his heart and energies in to actions and another line of work that perhaps over time would rehabilitate his sick ways. He did not become this monster overnight and 23 months in jail negotiating a pro-football comeback when he is released smacks of fraud. I would hope the NFL, city of Philadelphia, fans of the Eagles and the public at large will come to their senses and object with outrage until this decision is reversed - forever....

Michael Vick's cruel victimization of the animals in his care has been amply rewarded by the NFL, whose audacious greed far surpasses creating athletes for children to emulate. Fire Goodell!

I wish Vick would get the same treatment that he gave those poor dogs. What kind of role model is this piece of shit for children!!! Hopefully, This shit of signing Vick will bite the Eagles in the ass.

I agree that Michael Vick has served his time and payed his dues for what he did and he said he was sorry which maybe a kinda believe him but what i don't understand is why is he allowed back in the NFL and given a million dollar contract? let him go out in the real world and struggle just like millions of americans are doing right now who have lost their jobs without any fault of their own, why should he be given a free ride, that's B.S, the real reason he is allowed back in the NFL is because he makes him for the NFL and for all the other Greedy endorsement companies.

For anyone interested, Howard Stern has been on Sirius blasting Michael Vick all week and has called him a creep and a sicko and has publicly stated that he believes Michael Vick should still be in jail for what he did. In addition to Howard, Artie Lange, also of the Stern show has said he will go to the first Eagles/Giants game (being a Giant fan not an Eagles fan) and he will take a sign printed with the most offensive to Michael Vick message he can come up with and he encouraged all Stern fans in the New York area to come out and do the same. Artie also mentioned that Michael Vick will have a terrible time when he goes to Cleveland being that their craziest fans refer to themselves as The Dog Pound!!

This is to Kathy.
#1. Ghandi was a well documented racist and a pedophile
#2. Michael Vick is a murderer and a sadist.
#3. Michael Vick would not give you or anyone else a SECOND CHANCE.
#4. Michael Vick's apology was the most insincere, ridiculous, and insulting thing I have heard in a very long time.
#5.MICHAEL VICK WILLINGLY PARTICIPATED IN THE BRUTAL TORTURE, MURDER, and yes RAPE OF UNCOUNTED NUMBERS OF INNOCENT ANIMALS.
#6.Michael Vick is illiterate! After 3 years in COLLEGE!! FUCKING ILLITERATE!!!
#7. If a Doctor gets convicted of malpractice he doesn't get his job back, neither does a lawyer. So why does a convicted psycopathic killer get not only released from prison but is reinstated at his former high paying job?Because he killed and tortured dogs instead of people!
#8. Yes there are other players in the NFL who have been convicted of crimes, but none (look it up) have had the cold, calculated premeditation that Michael Vick's crimes consist of and in my opinion those other players shouldn't be playing either.
#9. Michael Vick went to great lengths to hide his actions from the public and the NFL indicating that he knew full well what he was doing was illegal and the public would lynch his ass for it.

Everything VICK says sounds like one big long fart!

Posted by: connie | August 20, 2009 08:26 AM

Vick didn't give any of those dogs a second chance. Not even his own house pets. Instead they got tortured and killed if they could not fight to the death. As for his own pets, they just got tortured. Vick a changed man? Hell no! I hope he fails miserably.

Posted by: Tommy | August 21, 2009 08:40 AM

Michael Vick should not have a second chance, did the dogs that he killed so violently have a second chance, NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!Get rid of Vick he and his father are scum and should just rot in jail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vick haters need to get a life. He served his time and deserves to resume his career as a football player, what he did was wrong but he has already served his punishment and he is aloud to play again, you can't do anything about it. What he did off the field shouldn't affect him on the field, anymore atleast.
