What's the motto of Dallas, Texas—America's unofficial big hair capital? "Live Large. Think Big." Dallas property whiz Ari Nessel makes that motto his maxim. He encourages residents to "live large" at swanky apartments refurbished by his company, Nessel Development, and he "thinks big" about animals and the environment when developing new rental properties.

How so?

  • Nessel Development welcomes spayed and neutered companion animals with open arms—and features dog parks at its properties.
  • Ari makes sure that every new resident receives a copy of PETA's "Vegetarian Starter Kit."
  • Staff members at Nessel Development headquarters enjoy free vegan lunches.
  • Ari strives to reduce his company's use of energy, water, and materials by renovating properties instead of building new ones and keeping everything as energy-efficient as possible.

For his efforts to promote animal rights and protect the environment, Ari Nessel has earned PETA's "Compassionate Company" Proggy Award.

He joins other caring individuals, companies, and charities—such as U.S. Representative Dennis Kucinich, Payless Shoe Source, and the Avon Foundation—that are working to make this world a better place for the people and animals who inhabit it.

Awesome. And I love Avon!

If Nessel can do this and make it work, and it is working, than other apartments have no excuses! Everyone: Take this and forward it to building owners and property management companies in your city. Show landlords what it's not only possible, but profitable! This is really cool. If Nessel inspires others, than there will be more pet-friendly housing in the country and fewer homeless animals.

I live in Austin, TX -- so wish we had apartments like this in our town!

How cool! I wish I lived in Dallas so I could live at one of these places with my pup. So beautifully decorated too. I'd LOVE to live in a community like this where I know all of my neighbors share a love for animals and take responsibility for them. And eco friendly too?! Wow. These are PERFECT apartments. Very jealous of anyone who gets to live in them.

This is a great example for property owners around the country! Happy dogs playing in their parks, tenants who learn how to eat healthy and humane, employees rewarded for choosing vegan lunches, and more....hurrah for Ari Nessell, and congrats on a very deserved award!

A tip o' the hat to trailblazing entrepreneur Nessel for truly "doing business" the RIGHT way and giving the word "developer" a whole new, POSITIVE interpretation!

I wish Nessel development would come out here and take over our property management company.

Our building is finally being re-piped today, for the first time in 25 years (that is how long I have lived here).

The damage in my unit due to broken pipes has to be seen to be believed, most of the damage is in the bathroom.

We used to have a dog run, but the management company took it out.

We used to have individual garden plots, but they took those out too.

We still have a swimming pool and a spa, though.

The condos in the rear of the complex are very popular for those whose career title is Illegal Pharmaceutical Representative.

I think I'll move to Texas.
