And a special thanks to the restaurants and pancake houses that have already pledged not to buy Canadian maple syrup—at least until this massacre ends. Economic pressure is what often makes the difference.
Perhaps best of all are the pictures we've received of people throwing their Canadian maple syrup bottles in the trash can. A picture is worth a thousand words, as they say. In this case, they're worth about 338,000 (that's the "quota" of baby seals who were clubbed to death this year).
We'd definitely love to see more of these pictures so we can show Canada that its reputation is in the trash can—literally. You can submit your photos here with your name, hometown, and a heartfelt message to the Canadian government. Then look for your picture here on the PETA Files later this month.

This is EXACTLY like the anti-French thing that some Americans did with the "Freedom Fries" stuff and pictures of people throwing French wine in the trash.
Canada is full of dedicated animal rights activists like myself who work tirelessly to end the seal hunt. We hold rallies, send out action emails and hold demos and educationnal events.
Maple Syrup is a vegan product.
It has NOTHING to do with the seal hunt.
Maple syrup is sustainable and produced by small "mom and pop" operations.
It makes me sad that PETA is being so obtuse and conceited that you will not admit that this boycott is a bad idea.
I understand that you have put a lot of energy in this campaign and may wish to "follow-through" with it.
But the sign of a humble and intelligent person is the ability to admit when he or she is wrong.
Of course big corporations and organizations NEVER admit that they are wrong, under any circumstances. And I am sad to say that is how PETA is behaving now.
The energy that you are putting into defending your HORRIBLE idea could instead be put in good effective campaigns against the seal hunt that you already have (The Olympics, the Canadian seafood and fish boycott, The boycott of Newfoundland tourism, bloody seal demo coverage, etc, etc...)
At this point this campaign has much less to do with the seals and much more to do with your own inflated ego and your refusal to admit that you are wrong.
I know that PETA lives for controversy but not all controversy is good. If you are insulting and alienating the people who are the most active at supporting your cause, for that reason alone you should consider changing your view.
Bottom line: Seals are in Canada and WE in Canada are trying to stop the seal hunt. You are overwhelmingly pissing off Canadian vegan animal rights activist with this campaign. Should that not be enough for you?

This message is for Antoine - I am a Canadian vegan animal rights activist who disagrees with most of your comments above. PETA is not (as you so eloquently said) 'pissing me off' with their campaign to boycott Canadian maple syrup. If this campaign forces people who would normally turn a blind eye to the horrors of the seal hunt to realize the atrocities that are happening in their own country then I'm all for it. GO PETA!

What exactly does PETA have to admit to being wrong about?! Attempting something that may possibly save thousands of precious lives? If you consider that wrong, I suggest you review your moral values.

antoine, surely you must know that money makes the world go round these days. it doesnt take much to see the point of this boycott, the more overwhelming pressure put on the government to end the seal hunt the better. whether that pressure comes from activists, concerned citizens, or people losing money because of it the more the better. obviously what has been done in the past in an attempt to end the hunt hasnt succeeded so kudos to PETA for switching up the game and understanding how the world works.

If you really want to make an impact, don't limit the boycott to maple syrup. A lot of products are made in Canada (Silkience hair products come to mind). Carefully read those labels and refuse to buy anything manufactured in our neighbor to the north until they stop the seal hunt.

Mary and Ashley, right on!! Antoine, disappointed in you. You've seemed to miss the point and you normally come through. YOU can't put a price tag on all those innocent lives lost and for what?? Their pelts to make boots and coats, silly fur figurine animals out of, while their corpes' rot on the ice flows!! We're just plain tired of it and America is no longer going to stand for it!! It's time to be heard!!! Yes I'm Canadian!!

There is nothing for me to boycott :( I live in Singapore and I don't theink there any Canadian products over here! Good work though PETA your olympics pic is my facebook pic now!
