Now that he's roped himself some serious coin, we're asking him to spare a little change (career change, that is). We wrote to Neal asking him to put his family's 320-acre ranch out to pasture and retire the remaining cattle, sheep, and horses to a sanctuary. We're really hoping that Neal's generosity is as big as his oversized check, cuz ranched animals get a seriously raw deal that can include neglect, mutilation, genetic manipulation, and drug regimens that cause chronic pain and crippling.
So Neal, here's our appeal: Kick up your heels, go for bust in Branson, do Dollywood, buy a closet full of those two-toned Garth Brooks shirts—whatever—enjoy life—you deserve it. Just don't forget about all those animals back at your ranch. They deserve to enjoy the rest of their lives too.

Lamentably, many of the richest people in the world are trophy hunters and participate in "caged hunts." Hopefully, the rancher will see the light.

Brien, Some of the poorest peole in the world kill for entertainment, cage wild animals to sell to game farms, illegally export exotic animal body parts, and sell their countries most valuable resources to merchants for short term wealth. Cruelty and greed know no economic boundary. Your sterotype is not very enlightened. Some of the poorest people on earth are also repairing the environemnt and working as stewards for animals in the wild. Some of the richest people on earth are doing everything they can to make the planet better for living things. Sterotyping rich people as cruel does not help, it alienates and creates an us versus them mentality. Each and every person on the planet is responsiable and capable to make decisions that express their values.

Hopefully he will take Peta up on this. Wish I could win that much money... of course I would live off of it, but most of it would go to helping animals and children...

Brien, I agree with Joanna. You probably should have used the word "some" rather than many (unless of course there is data to back up that info).
I can see how she may have originally interpreted your comment as sterotypical because of the word choice.....

I got a feeling this guy is going to find it too. I bet the first thing he stops doings is branding cattle. Sometimes when we have such a hard-scrabble life, we don't recognize the suffering of others. But now that he has time to think and reflect, I think this very sincere sounding young man is going to have a change of heart as vast as his change in fortunes. Pray so!
I think we could be looking at a man who could be the next Paul McCartney (Heart of Gold) for animals.
At 23, no one knows what direction this guy is going to take, but I believe he is going to join the millions of "truly" God conscience individuals, Artists, Philanthropists, Intellectuals, Scientists, Physicians, Humanitarians, and just plain ordinary folks who care about ALL OF GOD'S CREATURES.
God Bless you Neal. God has blessed you Neal, big time. God has delivered you, from a very hard life indeed. Study Genensis 1:29. God did not intend for us to eat animals. He did not create them to be bludgeoned and beheaded. Study what is happening to the environment, because of factory farm pollution. Study the misappropriations of wheat and grain and please come to New York and try out the vegan restaurants here. I know you will be impressed. In New York, we even have a bread, very delicious, called Genesis 1:29. That's right and it is very very good.
