pit bull
When Vickie McCauley unwrapped the body that she and her co-workers had found abandoned near their Austin office, she was sickened by what she saw. The pit bull's paws were reportedly bound with rope, her throat had been sliced open, and her face had been set on fire.

"If I think about what they did to her and she was alive," McCauley said. "It makes me cry because it makes me so sad."

Officials apparently didn't bother to unwrap the bundle, possibly assuming that the dog had simply been discarded there by someone who had nowhere else to put her after she died.

But McCauley wasn't willing to let the poor, tortured animal's suffering go unpunished. She demanded justice and insisted on further investigation. McCauley turned to the Internet, where she has been circulating pictures and pleas for help. "This is torture worse than I've ever seen in my life," McCauley said. "And, I want whoever did this to know this is wrong! You can't go around doing things like this to animals."

We have stepped in and are offering a $2,500 reward to help find the person (or people) responsible for this atrocious crime. But cruelty cases like this are all too common, so if you become aware of animal abuse, follow Vickie McCauley's example and insist that authorities take action!

I don't feel anymore there is room on this earth for people who impose such cruelty on another living thing. This is very sad and boggles my mind that anyone has it in them to actively go out and commit such a crime. If this is what they do to a dog, I hate to see what they would do to a female/male or child. Because it hardly ever ends at animal cruelty. This is just their first step in becoming a serial killer or murderer.

I saw something similar on our local news last night, only this dog is still alive and ready to be adopted by someone to whom looks are not important.

This poor pit bull had her nose and ears cut off and her hamstrings severed. Where dogs are supposed to have a nose and ears, she has nothing but open holes.

This same sadist also cut off her lips, so she has a permanent "Joker" smile. In spite of all of this she has an incredibly loving dispositon and a tail that never stops wagging.

The newscast did not report if the sadist who did this was ever captured.

The savage barbarians that mutilated the dog are not even subhuman. They are emanations from hell.

Posted by: Brien Comerford | June 25, 2009 05:27 PM

I agree with Brien Comerford. These so called humans are savage beings. What the hell can we do about things like this that keep on happening to our beautiful animals. Makes me want to scream at the courts and polititians to make the laws the same as if you killed a human being. That is how I feel!!!!!!!!!!!

Disgusting...absolutely disgusting. I cease to be shocked by what I hear on a daily basis. We should put a cap on the amount of kids that anti-social people can bear. They only breed anti-social clones of themselves who are without empathy, emotion, and humanity.

Posted by: Terri | June 25, 2009 07:32 PM

Please, oh please just give me ten minutes with the scum that did this. I am not a violent person, but in this case I will make an exception.
Thank you Vickie for seeking justice for this precious angel.
Rest In Peace darling fur baby.

How in the hell can anyone be so sick that they can do this to poor innocent animals that only wanted to give and receive love????????????? These SOB's need to rot in hell where they belong. Imagine the pain that these poor babies felt before subcoming to death??????????
They need to die for what they have done in the same exact way that they put that poor pitbull through along with the one that survived!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am crying my eyes out as I write this thinking of the pain that they went through.

Posted by: alison ferro | June 25, 2009 10:05 PM

those demons! only someone who had a major demon would do that!

Posted by: natalie | June 25, 2009 10:33 PM

sorry to bum anyone out here, but someone thats capable of lighting a dogs face on fire isnt capable of "rehabilitation"...if youre able to light a dogs face on fire...there is no hope for you...youre pure evil. too bad the culprits will get a slap on the wrist and a tsk tsk! from the judge just like the Hormel pig farmers.

Thank You Vickie for standing up for this poor baby! All I can say is,when they find this creton:"EYE FOR AN EYE" baby!! Make this human excressance(sp?) pay and pay big!

F**kin' losers. I hope they all rot in hell!

Posted by: Jose | June 26, 2009 07:54 AM

Horrific! Gruesome!! Sickening! Shocking! Beyond anything I can even comprehend that anyone would do such an appalling wickedness to a living thing. Pure evil!! I hope they get this person or persons who did this and they throw them in jail and I hope they lose the key and forget about them, permanently! How sad and pathetic there is someone on this earth who is so immoral that they would do this and did!

We had the same thing happen in Miami, except it was a cat killer. He ended up being an 18 year old guy who mutilated and killed a whole bunch of cats and left them at the doorsteps of the cat owners. He is a sick person, who obviously has issues, as well as this sick human who did this to the poor dog. Didn't they read Ingrid's letter on Euthenasia, and see those horrible pictures?

Posted by: Natasha | June 26, 2009 10:26 AM

People continue to abuse animals because, one -- they are seriously mentally ill and two -- they don't get any punishment from the court systems.

Posted by: Terry | June 26, 2009 01:12 PM

whoever is responsible for this unbelievable crime should be put to death...by the same type of animals they inflicted so much pain on.

Posted by: connie mcmillan | June 26, 2009 01:28 PM

I agree with Brien Comerford--these are not human beings--they are demons from the pit of hell and should be eliminated from the earth.

I'm following another absolutely sickening cruelty case involving a 17-year old teen who put her former friend's 8-week old kitten in her oven as a joke and to get back at here. I cannot imagine the horrible suffering of that tiny, innocent creature! We're all demanding that the judge try her as an adult. Please "google" Cheyenne Cherry and you will find the petition at Care2. Please! Everyone sign and comment.

I pray the reward here yields tips that lead to an arrest. These people are a danger to humans and animals alike and must be severely punished for their horrible crime.

Yesterday my mom went outside and noticed, some relatives visiting the house across the street left their dog outside, in the heat.

So she asked them who's dog it was, and then explained to the relatives after she found out it belonged to them, that a dog shouldn't be out in the heat like that. They said the neighbors didn't want the dog in the house. So my mom offered to let the dog stay over at our house, so it wouldn't be in the heat.

The relatives of the neighbor, after some "We don't want to be a bother" pssh, yeah, but they don't care of being a bother to their own pet, agreed to let us sit their dog while they were visiting. So now the dog is staying over at our house while they're here.

I really was proud of my mom for standing up, and speaking out about the situation. :D

This is so discusting this happens all the time not to just dogs but to cats and farm animals too. It makes me sick to think that there are people out there that can do this to an animal. They are just evil. Justice system needs to step in with better laws to protect the innocent.!

A helpful tip to getting the word out about cases like this would be to create a facebook group, you would be able to inform thousands of people within days

Posted by: Mary | June 26, 2009 05:21 PM

I find that we are the crulest animal on earth!!!!!!! Animals take care of there own better than we do our own. There is to much cruelty to animals in this world!! I pray everyday God bless the animals that are abused by humans, may they one day pay for what they have done!!! AND BOY DO I MEAN IT!!!! Bless the little dog's soul may he have peace now and no more torture...

Posted by: Beth Chaney | June 26, 2009 05:40 PM

Awful! Just incredibly cruel and violent. That poor dog must have suffered so much but the demon must have enjoyed it. These demons need to be put in jail and throw away the key.
I also am hoping the monster in NYC that burned the kitten to death in an oven gets treated like an adult monster from hell.
I can't take these horrible violent cruel incidents. Laws need to change FAST!!!

Brien C I totally agree with you!

Posted by: AAG | June 26, 2009 07:55 PM

It is people like these that make me ashamed to be a human being. How could someone put a kitten in an oven?? or light a dog's face on fire? these people should be institutionalized! Im googling Cheyenne Cherry right now and signing that petition. Thanks Peta and all the animals lovers for caring for those with no voices to say 'No!'

Posted by: Lauren Raulstone | June 27, 2009 08:19 AM

I agree 100% wit h Carla - there is no difference to my mind, between the murder of an animal and a human being. I just wish that more people saw it that way and punished the crime. They do it because they can get away with it,

Posted by: Cherida Hivale | June 27, 2009 05:45 PM

Vicki is truly one in a million, it seems in this very cruel world we live in, that would take the steps she did to make sure this poor dog's life was not forgotten. I applaud her and PETA for working together.

One person can make a difference-
Thank you for caring from a fellow Texan.

Posted by: Debbie | June 27, 2009 09:03 PM

Put these monsters in a ring and torture them the same way these poor dogs are!!!!!! Then they can rot in hell!!!!!

Posted by: linda | June 28, 2009 12:17 PM

People who perform these type of acts to animals should be killed or have the same thing done to them. What happens when the person does not get off from hurting animals...turn to children and adults?

Posted by: Kat | June 28, 2009 12:55 PM

I believe that the offering of rewards by PETA and the ASPCA will produce results in this case and others. Dog fighting rings and cock fighting rings are populated by low life criminals who will do anything for a buck.

For five thousand dollars, I think the informants will overtake the low lives.

Posted by: Saucy | June 29, 2009 11:52 AM

If a pit bull dog will not fight, not aggressive enough it will be killed.Shot, knifed, tied up,doused with gas,set on fire,on and on.The dog-fighting "industry" has to be stopped.Be the eyes and ears of your community, see something wrong report it to the police or animal control.
