PETA Angles for a Lighthouse

Of course, when we heard this, a light bulb lit up over our heads—a coastal lighthouse would be the perfect place for to set up the national headquarters for our Fish Empathy Project.
In hopes of luring Dan Wenk, acting director of the National Park Service, with our bid, we've written him a letter outlining some of the details of our proposed exhibit.
PETA's center would feature educational displays proving that fish are intelligent animals who learn tasks, use tools, show affection, and feel pain when they are dragged from the sea in nets or impaled on hooks.
The lighthouse would also be home to the world's first Fish Empathy Quilt, a 300-square-foot quilt that pays tribute to the billions of fish who are abused and killed every year—as well as a café serving delicious faux-fish sticks and other tasty fish-friendly foods.
We'll let you know if he bites!

Abused and killed? - I guess you're also referring to normal natural reasons as well, such as sharks and sea mammals eating fish too. (I do wonder why PETA says we're equal to animals and yet supports a vegan diet...)
Anyway, I don't think they'll let PETA snag a lighthouse because it's not quite an NFP. Even if it is, they might not want to support a group that is counter to the area's income.
Sure, overfishing and cruel means of fishing is wrong (as it can also endanger wildlife), but if animals eat meat, I think humans can eat some as well. We are afterall equals.

Great idea. 90% of the big fish are gone from our oceans. Humans can live on a vegan diet. It only makes common sense to save what little is left.

I applaud PETA for all the grat work they have done for animals and are still doing. I also love Lighthouses. If PETA does win their bid for a lighthouse, every effort should be made to preserve it. There are just as many Lighthouse advocates in this country as there are animal advocates and I am both.
