I am THRILLED that they have been found guilty and that at least 3 of them are not allowed to work with animals.

I am truly saddened that their prison sentence was suspended b/c to me that is the court telling everyone that "as crimes go, this isn't so bad". And it is a terrible crime; this ruling is indicative of how valuable animals are perceived (or not) and that if animals are perceived as expendable then no harm done to them while alive is worth seriously reprimanding. I look forward to do the day when true accountability takes place.

This is HUGE news anywhere, let alone out of Iowa, where agribusiness dominates. Frankly, in a country of overcrowded prisons, more and more violent criminals are given suspended sentences. My hat's off to the sheriff and prosecutor for so quickly getting these guys to own up to what they did. I pray the PETA investigators breathe a sigh of satisfaction tonight, knowing they've secured a sweet, rare serving of justice for pigs!

I find this trial a very good thing for mankind; courts of law should be severe with animal abuse. However, cruelty, impunity and indifference is the rule in this hellish world for animals and not dignity and justice. I just wish people knew pigs are wonderful animals, wonderful enough to be a lovely pet as dogs or cats. They are really smart, they shouldn't be victims of men trade. We should stop eating pig. Humankind should think of all the damage that is inflicting upon this earth.

We are teaching our children that animals are expendable and lifeless. Look at the dead animals along your freeways and other roads that are left to rot and be run over again and again. Children see this on a daily basis and become immune to the disregard to what these animals are. most are mothers and fathers and some are babies. EXACTLY Astrid. I am with you. This is bone chilling and really scary stuff since you can imagine the lack of compassion, morale and character these people lack who abuse innocent and confined animals; I would bet that they abuse their wives and children too. JUST WHAT IF there were video footage of people sticking a clothespin in the animal abuser's eye (with no medical treatment). The whole thing is very sick and ugly and we need Prop 2 and even better than that passed ASAP in every state. The animals are totally defenseless and cannot fight back and they are suffering tremendously. Factory farming is also sooooo bad for the environment. People need to wake-up and smell the blood and pain and suffering. This is not civilized. WHAT WE DO TO FARM ANIMALS IS CRIMINAL AND IT IS THE WORST TYPE OF SIN AGAINST GOD'S CREATIONS. If the court system fails to reinforce the ultimate punishment for this type of brutal, unethical, most barbaric treatment towards "any" living thing is especially for the pigs that had to endure those conditions without being able to control there lives or destiny is disgusting to me.... Only human beings treat living things the way they do... there own species doesn't even treat them as we do; We are accountable, with no excuses to protect those that cannot... That's why we have police right, to "Protect and serve the community" then why would it be any different for these animals? Boils down to "unaccountability and ethics..." I have to admit I am not pleased with the outcome, but like any legislature, it has to start some where. This is just the stepping stone for harsher punishments to come. I truly believe that these "people" if we could really call them that should see the same fate as these poor animals. But, in our world today that is just not going to happen unfortunatly. What ever happened to an eye for an eye, literally. One could only hope that stronger punishments are put into place as soon as possible and that not another animal has to endure what these poor animals did. That would be the world I would like and be proud to live in.

Humankind is not so kind anymore. It seems we have to fight every day to prevail over evil - the proof is in the abuse of helpless animals. I am not a vegetarian, but I have great respect for any animal which serves to feed me and maintain my health. I beleive Karma does exist. I think it is sad that they only are banned from working with animals while they are on probation. So after two years they can go back with even more hate and anger for the animals. I guarentee that these people are not taking responsibility for their actions they think that it is the animals fault they got in trouble. Doesn't the trial judge realize that people who do these cruel,sadistic things to animals wouldn't hesitate doing it to humans ? Maybe the judge isn't married and doesn't have children or maybe the judge doesn't realize that the prisons are overcrowded because the penalties are not severe enough to discourage criminals and the conditions , perks and food in most prisons are better that what our troops fighting for our freedom have to endure . Maybe when one of these brainless morons rape someone then the courts MIGHT wake up . We should bring back branding of violent criminals and whipping ; I guarantee they would think twice before seeking a repeat performance , add twenty more lashes for the second offence .The prisons will not be overcrowded .

To all those complaining about the sentences: Please put this in perspective. Until this year, only four men had ever been convicted of cruelty to farmed pigs in US history. All had been prosecuted on PETA evidence. This Iowa case, with five new convicts, has more than DOUBLED that number. Let's celebrate that, please. Let's be thankful that a court in IOWA, the nation's top pork state, has convicted factory farmers. Do you know how strong of a message that sends to the pork industry in the US? Jail would have been nice, but please people, don't look past history for retribution. Retribution won't help animals. History will.

I was actually a bit afraid of pigs, they always seemed agressive to me...Until I figured out that being locked up in a to small pen to small to even turn around...and being fed whenever someone remembered is actually a good reason to be a bit violent. I am glad that there are being taken steps to stop this kind of cruelty.
I too am a bit shocked that their sentence was suspended...but it happens in most cases, they get away with just a fine. Perhaps in the future there will be harsher sentences for such behavior.

I don't understand why they would need to abuse their animals like that unhappy pigs makes for less profits and if they are dead it's a no profit. I dont raise pigs on a commical level. I ususally have around 4 pigs at a time but they are not miss treated of abused. I want all the meat I can get and like I said unhappy pigs just don't produce as good.

if you live in Romania you don't see this with pigs (at least not on small farms), however you see it with cats and dogs. that's not my point.

i am not a veg and i don't plan to become one, i like meet, what bothers me is that there are people without any respect for animals.

the sentence should be the things they done to pigs. this is why i try to eat house grown meet as much i can. an abused animal has a totally different taste. and i don't think there is nothing transmitted on the spiritual realm. i mean i don't like to eat the vessel of a tormented soul.

my grandparents have grown pigs as far as i remember. and i also remember the envy that what i had once for them (i really liked the scent of the food they were eating. 100%bio).

there are ways where no one suffers and everyone gets what he wants. the problem is MONEY and GREED and they ho hand in hand.

HANG THEM, BEAT THEM, CONFINE THEM ALL THOSE ANIMAL ABUSERS OUT THERE. PUT THEM IN A SMALL CAGE TOGETHER FOR THE TIME THEY PUT THEM IN JAIL. BUT DON'T FEED THEM. no one understands how much i love pigs. eating them is like eating my pet dogs even though i don't have any pet pigs. i love them so much and i cry just seeing pictures like the one above, and don't get me started on what i do when i hear the stories. for their sake, i hope these people never meet me because they will die a horrible death

well were do i begin i cannot belive people who and what they do to these animals i am no longer going to eat meat im changing just told the family thoses people who work in slaughter houses should get a taste of what they do to those animals how can u do that they must have no hearts it makes me so mad how our country can let this go on it hurts and im ashamed to have eaten meat

it saddened my soul to see this video footage. i can only hope that someday this horrible torture to these helpless and innocent animals will end. these men and anyone who can do this to an animal deserves the worst punishment possible!

I have tried being Vegan/Vegetarian 3 times i think but its time for me to do it permanently. I am just disgusted with myself for being involved in eating meat for no benefit what so ever.

I can't even swallow...

We all need to wake up and stop playing around. This is just sick.
