Every Day Is 'Take Your Dog to Work Day' at PETA

Today is National Take Your Dog to Work Day, which means that dogs across the U.S. left their casual doggie sweaters in the closet and opted for something a bit more business-like.
Here at 501 Front St., we are overflowing with lucky dogs who don't have to wait for a special holiday to accompany their human companions into the office. They come to work every day, rain or shine, and diligently distract each and every employee by asking for belly rubs, distributing kisses, and just being so darn cute. Want to meet a few of them? Of course you do.

Tyler works in PETA's Campaigns Department, but he routinely makes the rounds of the building. Tyler likes to sunbathe, but he's conscious of his tan lines and will flip from side to side to ensure that he's getting evenly toasty. Contrary to what you might think, he's not as worried as he looks (he uses those wrinkles to his advantage—namely, to get treats).

Sugar, whose full name is Princess Sugar Pants, hangs out in the PETA Foundation's Interactive Media Department. She was found cowering in the rain outside a local grocery store on Valentine's Day 2007. She lives to gut every toy she's given, play tug of war, give the sincerest doggy kisses, wrestle, and love on her human friends in the office. She can jump higher than any dog she's ever met and can outrun most of them too!

Over in the Foundation's Human Resources department, Whimsey rules the roost. She's been coming into the office since 1998, and she loves playing in the PETA dog park. She can never get enough treats (especially peanut butter), and she even tries stealing them from other dogs around the office (they still love her anyway). Give her a high-pitched squeal and she'll wiggle her butt with joy.

Cooper and Louie help out the PETA Foundation's Development Department on a daily basis. Louie is a wonder-genius and has repeatedly shown compassion to many other species by helping track down lost animals since she was a puppy. If you want to get her out of bed without giving her a belly rub, you'll have to pick her up. Cooper is always smiling and ready to go. He came to the PETA Foundation after his former human family decided that it couldn't care for him anymore. If you need a good laugh or a great game of fetch, Cooper's your man.

PETA is a haven for enlightened, intelligent and humane people who know that dogs and all creatures great and small are innately wonderful.

For 8 months I worked at a facility called Doggietown, USA, a daycare center for dogs.
The facility had a behavioral testing room (a dog had to pass a temperment test before being admitted), kitchen, and laundry room, as well as the play areas: three large rooms of cageless fun, stocked with everything a doggie heart could ever want: sleeping cots, doggie bathrooms with real grass sod on the top which was rolled up, disposed of and replaced every hour (or more frequently if needed) Little Tykes toys and climbers (they LOVED the climbers) and enough balls, frizbees and chew toys to stock a pet store mega warehouse. The dogs were separated by size and temperment, with two special rooms for dogs who became ill or were older and needed a quieter enviornment. There were automatic waterers that were frequently cleaned and maintained; when I wasn't disposing of grass sod I was maintaining the watering systems. There was one staff member in each room at all times. For the most part we let the dogs play among themselves but sometimes a rousing game of catch would begin. The only time the dogs were caged was mealtime, each dog had his own assigned area and they soon learned exactly where to go when it was time to eat, no matter if they had training in anything else or not. I took Buck to work with me every day and he had many friends there; I think this is why he is such a friendly dog today.
There was a dog trainer there who taught daily sessions, so most of Buck's basic training was done at Doggietown. To this day he gets excited when he hears the word "school." He loved Doggietown. If you live in Huntington Beach, California and need a place to care for your baby during the day, check out Doggietown on Edinger Ave. I highly recommend it.

WOW! If everyone could be so lucky! You know, it's been proven that animals lower our blood pressure and stress levels!! I think this is what every office needs!!

Yea, i remember when i was working at PETA's Heaquarters the whole three floors of the building where full of animals including a sick baby bird who one PETA staffer was helping to rehabilitate.

That is such a awsome idea of taking your pet to work with you! That way they will never have to be lonley and wait for their human owners to come home. I just wish that all animals could be loved as much as these ones. Keep up the good work PETA.

AWWWW! I would be in my absoulte HEAVEN in the PETA office. I can tell that everyone at PETA are animal lovers. But how do you get any work done with some of those puppie dog faces!?

I get to bring my huge 100lb dog to work with me! He has a wonderful yard at home with a cool pool for the summer and an insulated doggy house for the winter. But on the really hot days, the really cold days,or just days he wants to come, I get to bring him to my office! I love it and so do my co-workers! We have a gated garden area in the back with a pond and foutain, and he loves to lay by it and sun bathe! I love my doggy!

I am lucky that I get to bring my dog to work too. He comes with me everyday and loves it. He thinks he has a job, all I have to say is "are you ready to go to work" and he runs to the door. He pretty much sleeps the whole time!
