The bigwigs in Washington didn't approve our permit to set up a hog farm on the steps of the Capitol, but you'll still be seeing PETA in D.C. this summer. Starting yesterday, our Animal Liberation Project display is going to be a fixture on the National Mall all season long.

ALP

With the recent leak of alleged torture photos to media outlets, our Animal Liberation Project display—which makes the connection between the injustices that people have suffered throughout history and the abuse and exploitation that animals suffer every day—couldn't be more relevant. These newest images of abuse include those of a man covered in feces and another man hung upside-down.

Sound familiar?

Being hung upside-down is something that billions of chickens endure before they have their throats cut.
shackled chickens

The parallels definitely don't stop there. Check out these images from yesterday's unveiling of the display:

We're set up right across from the Natural History Museum, so if you'll be in D.C. this summer, be sure to stop by.

great job!! I think all people need to see these images.. if that isn't INjustice metered out to so many animals all over the globe who suffer because of treatment because of, by from man/humans.. then I don't know what is..

I just left a message, but I wondered if anyone reading this article might know what I can do. I have a rat living under my front steps and it has my neighbors in a panic. He comes out and openly eats breakfast with the squirrels and birds, and everybody on my street wants him killed. He seems very happy, and bold, and he seems to be a batchelor. Is there a way to trap him and relocate him? How have others dealt with this problem?

Posted by: Pattie | May 19, 2009 05:39 PM

Very cool!
I wish I could come and help out :(
Great stuff guys!

Posted by: ash | May 19, 2009 05:52 PM

Whatever happened to the travelling animal liberation sculpure/exhibit I remember seeing years ago--I think it was called the Ark, or something like that? It was on display in DC for one of the marches held there. I think it needs to be brought back out into the public for viewing again!

i would love to volunteer , anytime after june 5th i can organize and would be glad

Posted by: alexis kerr | May 19, 2009 06:52 PM

What do you do if you're interested in volunteering?

Posted by: Hannah | May 19, 2009 08:14 PM

A reportedly compassionate and Democratic President and Congress has an opportunity to pass and enact the most animal welfare legislation in history.

Posted by: Brien Comerford | May 19, 2009 08:27 PM

I live near D.C.

Can I have the information so I could maybe volunteer please?

Posted by: HiDefUltraRealism | May 19, 2009 09:24 PM

If there is a such great opportunity to be volunteer, I would like to do this! Unfortunatelly I do not stay in D.C but in Asia Taiwan. However it is not the excuse for contributing myself to animal rights! I believe that your group will see my intership or volunteer application in the near future! I really appreciate your work and everything you done for life. Thank you! :)

Posted by: Kate Chen | May 19, 2009 10:37 PM

Posted by: Dupree Heard | May 20, 2009 01:35 AM

I want to go and be apart of this. I will take all my vaction days from work to go there and here is why- I drove a 18-wheeler truck and picked up at all the meat, chicken, pigs and egg plants. I am a EYEWITNESS to FACTORY FARMING ABUSE AND CRUELTY.
I became a vegan because of this.
To this day I am still haunted by what I saw.Now keep in mind when this happen I ate meat, didn't even know what "animal rights" meant and didn't even know about PETA.

The first time I picked up eggs, I saw the DEATH CAMPS of these chickens. I saw a man with a huge 3 wheelbucket and it was fill with hens (chickens) and then add onto that a huge pile mounted on top, with hens dropping off it as he rolled it onto the dock and then pour all of them( most of them still alive and moving around in awful pain) into a huge garbage dumpster and then walked away, I was so naive that I ran over to that area and yelled to that man "what happen" and he said the following "nothing, they just aren't laying enough eggs and this is what we do to them" I looked into the dumper and it was filled almost to the top with poor little mommy chickens moving around in pain and their wings broken and legs and feathers pealed of their bodies. They looked up at me( a few of them) and their eyes had the same look as the cows and pigs that are stuff into the "hauling trucks" that I had to drive next to.Those pictures and videos are all real( that PETA shows) and the conditions haven't improved, they are indeed "death camps" and their whole lives are torture from the day they are born.It is the least I can do to help the animals, by being an eyewitness for 7 years of this I can tell them , like I tell everyone that factory farms are GROUND ZERO for alot of illness and for cruelty. THERE IS A SPECIAL PLACE IN HELL FOR ANIMAL ABUSER, AND IT'S RIGHT NEXT TO THE CHILD Molesters.I will always fight for the animals,I am now an animal rights activist and in the medical field for the past 6 years. And when I tell people my stories ( because I have 7 years worth) they all come back to me and say they have reduced their meat intake and are trying to go veggie! It was worth the pain to hear that I have helped someone to stop eating meat.

Posted by: Shari | May 20, 2009 01:49 AM

Wow, I am very interested in volunteering! I would love to get some more information please. :D

Posted by: Monika | May 20, 2009 09:12 AM

Shari,
You should write and article or essay on what you saw and how it felt being involved. It would be a very interesting read. It is great that you changed your position.

The greatness of a nation is judged by the moral progress of how its animals are treated. ~ Ghandi

I'm am horrified about the everday cruelty & butchering of living, breathing, feeling creatures that have a heartbeat. Only MANKIND can be so sadistic and cruel. Too much evil going on in this world everday. I only wish I could gather up every single living creature in this world into my arms & protect them all from the wrath of cruel, inhumane people that do such horrid acts upon them. To put all creatures into a secure environment away from all humans that don't respect nature.

Posted by: ana laura | June 14, 2009 12:51 PM

Hi, I wanted to know how old you have to be to sign up, because I am only 12, I became a vegetarian yesterday, the first day I saw this site. Meat is sickening now, I can't believe I was ever in the parking lot of McDonalds! Chickens getting their heads cut off just because we want a box full of greasy, unhealthy, food. We have better things to do, and healthier ways to get protein! And the chickens in the picture above look miserable! That's the worst death I can possibly imagine. I had a hot dog for lunch yesterday, after that I saw this site and wanted to throw up. I have never been so disgusted with myself in my life. It may be tough to start being a vegetarian, but at least it's harder to stop!

By the way thanks so much for what you've done for animals, it means a lot for everyone everywhere.

Posted by: Mikaela | June 19, 2009 03:37 PM

People will always eat meat. Nothing is ever going to change that. The only hope for animals is for people to disappear. No humans no suffering for animals.

For those people who do NOT know where to go to help the animals and can not make it to Washington, DC, you can create your own group or do something just yourself.

Here are some other websites to help the animals:
www.meetup.com
www.eventful.com
www.wfad.org
www.worldanimalday.org.uk

Most of the above websites to help the animals are GLOBAL.
If you see something around you, then GO.

If you do not see anything in your area, then PLEASE network your ideas by any means necessary to help these animals who can NOT defend and help themselves by the horrors by humans.

Posted by: Humans Helping Animals | June 22, 2009 10:06 PM

And don't forget this way to be active in your area to help the animals wherever you live:

Pattie - We saved several rats before exterminator came to our church. Use hav-a-heart trap, bait with peanut butter, check daily, relocate rat in woods near water. Good for you to care! BRAVO Peta - all the precious animals thank you.

Great Job! I would love to hold an awareness project in my community, if you anyone has any details how I could do so that would be awesome! I try to talk about and show people the reality of how animals are treated but no one wants to hear it or see it because they know they will feel bad and guilty, but people are so selfish! I believe everyone should be educated on these subjects and I would be proud to sponsor it as much as possible.

You see, everyone wants to kill him...who is he harming? Only people uneducated.
Really, now, animals live, work and play amongst each other, human's do not. What a pity........
Honey, it must be nice, real nice to see all of those animals living and eating with each other. I, myself, would love to see this.

Pattie-Your local hardware store will have live traps for rodents. Use thin amount of peanut butter almost translucent because rats can choke on this and bread. Try banana. The rat may have been someones pet due to the fact he is eating out in the opnen and if not afraid of birds. See if he is a different color then gray or brown.

I also think it would be a really great thing to bring the Animal Liberation Project Display to every state! I live in North Carolina, and I would love to see it come to Raleigh. I am a long time supporter of Peta and animal rights. I know this type of project will change many hearts and minds. Thank you.

PETA - you guys are wonderful. I became a vegetarian two years ago when I came across your video "Meet Your Meat". Whenever I briefly think about a steak or a chicken burger, I think about this video. I will never eat meat again! Thank you PETA.

My cousin is here for a week and we wanted to take her to see you (she's a member of PETA) at the mall in D.C. today, but we couldn't find you anywhere! Where are you guys set up? We're going back Thursday.

Posted by: Emily Italiano | July 7, 2009 11:52 PM

I received a video today from a friend. This broke my heart as I watched these men beat these animals to perform, kicking them continually. dragging them tied legs and around their stomachs some were bleeding badly. These behind the scenes of rodeos that we never see. I will never attend a rodeo again. I had no idea they did this to make the bulls mean and the horses buck as though they are not trained just to make money at their expense.

THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO FOR THE ANIMALS. MY NIECES AND NEPHEWS WILL LIVE IN A KINDER, GENTLER WORLD. THANKS FOR SPREADING COMPASSIONATE ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. PETA is a fantastic organization. I have been a member since you fought for the Silver Spring monkeys! We have come a long way! The animals need your presence. Keep screaming against animal suffering. Stop animal exploitation ASAP.

Posted by: Lucinda | July 13, 2009 06:14 PM

I've become a vegetarian because of PETA. I didn't know of the horrors these animals face and the tortures they have to endure before being slaughtered. Animal abusers will burn in hell for doing this to God's creatures. I'm interested in volunteering as well, will this be going on all summer?

Thaks for this remarkable actions.
I really love animals...
My family and I adopted 2 dogs from the streets, 2 years ago (got 4 in total).
Most of my neighbors didn't understand why we kept them and even they got angry (for the barking), we didn't care. We really love all of them...
Oh and we adopted a cat too...
All 5, are like a members of our family which is big now ja ja...
In my country we have an organization named PAE (Protección Animal Ecuador)
which is growing up, i'll hope we'll do a great job like you do....

I love animals and I love PETA! Thanks for all you do for animals. I'm a vegan and live in Northern Virginia. I would love to help out and volunteer in DC! How do I get started?

Posted by: Lindsay Willsey | August 31, 2009 03:44 PM

I would like to send heartfelt thanks to you for the toPETA,ugh work you so gallantly undertake.
It would derange me to experience the atrocities you bravely expose. Without your gutsy action, the every day abuse of birds and animals would pass without question, protest or reform. A frightening concept...
Proud to donate and support you and compelled to do all we can for local homeless animals.

I think this an awesome way to show others what animals go through every day of their lives. I love animals with all my heart. I would love to help out and I am very intersted in voluntering.

Posted by: addison, 12 | September 19, 2009 09:45 AM

The Animal Liberation Project is my favorite PETA action.

Connecting the oppression of other animals with the oppression of humans needs to be done. I stand behind this 100% and thank PETA for waking up the public to the reality of speciesist exploitation and injustice. Keep it up!

Farms workers have to be evaluate by a Psychiatric Dr. before they take the job, include the owners, as a mandatory requirement.

Posted by: Erwin | October 21, 2009 07:35 AM

Please tell me what I can do. My heart hurts so much for our beloved animals. My spirit is breaking the more and more I see what human beings are capable of doing to our precious and innocent animals. I want to help. How can I volunteer? Thank you Peta for being the voice for the animals.

Posted by: Michelle (Toronto) | October 27, 2009 02:28 PM

OMG! .. how can people be so mean to animals .. or slauter them for NO reason :'(

Posted by: Sydney | October 29, 2009 06:38 PM

people like this should be put in jail automatically even if its a small case of not feeding there pet its still makes them stupid and mean.

Posted by: meaghan | November 2, 2009 08:49 AM

I love PETA....congrats for ur amazing labor!

Posted by: Mabel | November 6, 2009 10:11 PM

I agree with Tom when he said that this is a better way to inform people about animal abuse and animal rights. Showing actual photos and providing information in a calm and non-agressive manner goes much further to help PETA gain respect. I think many of the more exhibitionist behavior (blood splattered on protesters, interrupting meetings, etc.) only makes PETA look like an organization of pranks and hijinks and does little to promote our message in an intelligent fashion. Gaining respect for PETA is paramount. Also, if PETA's commercials continue to be banned from television, what good are they doing to promote the cause. I would rather see TV-acceptable advertising that at least gets on-air. Getting the PETA name out there is far more important than creating controversial ads that never see the light of TV day.

I just have to say, where has PETA been in the stuggle for the dolphins and porpises in Taiji, Japan? If you haven't seen it, watch the documentary "The Cove". It'll give you nightmares.

Posted by: Niki | January 11, 2010 04:43 PM

How do you sign up to do this? Is there any place in Ohio I can help?

Posted by: bethany mercer | January 11, 2010 04:44 PM

Whats the different between eating Animals and being a Cannibal. Why is being a Cannibal wrong but it's okay to freely and legally eat Animals and and use Animal involved products?

Posted by: PlaYChilD | January 12, 2010 11:42 AM

Hey, I live in Australia and wondering if there are any Animal Liberation or PETA activities, events, protests or groups here. I'm from Perth, Western Australia.
