Thanks for all your wonderful comments on this Win It Wednesday. The winner of the Drinkwell Pet Fountain is Taylor Loscialpo, along with Poopy the cat. Congratulations!

As summer approaches, humans aren't the only ones drinking more water. Our feline friends are sweating too, even if it is only through their paws, and we have a fun way to keep them hydrated and happy: the Drinkwell Pet Fountain.

safepetproducts / CC
Drinkwell

In nature, wild cats drink from running streams, so why should their domesticated brothers and sisters have to drink from a stagnating puddle? This water fountain for cats keeps the water moving, which encourages persnickety kitties to drink more and helps them stay healthy.

How do you win? Tell us how your kitty companion changed your life for the better. The most heartfelt comment takes home the prize.

The contest ends on May 20, 2009, and we'll choose the most touching story as the winner on May 22, 2009. Be sure to read our privacy policy and terms and conditions, as you're agreeing to both by commenting. Check back every Wednesday for new prizes. Good luck!

My cats need this!

Riley is a gift from heaven. I adopted her from a family that couldn't keep her due to allergies. When I arrived to pick her up, she was so scared to be outside that she quickly made a mad dash to my car and jumped inside. The entire ride home she sat in the passenger front seat meowing away as if she was telling me her life story. She's a rather big girl, but is 100% a lap cat! Every morning when I shower, she sits ontop of the sliding door to the shower just so she isn't alone for a second. She even greets everyone at the front door too! As soon as she hears someone coming to the door, she flies down the stairs just to greet them. She's so lovable and affectionate and playful, I honestly can't imagine what I would do without her!

To be honest I just saw a kitty starving on the other side of the road that was abandoned by jackass neighbors so I gave it tuna and it followed me home.

So we adopted it and before we could get the little bugger fixed it gave birth so now we have 3 lovely fixed cats that would probably love that fountain. Especially Mama Cat because going from the streets to a home with a cat fountain would be awsome for her auto biography if cats could write an auto biography.

Hemingway and Clementine are my two rescued babies. They always greet me at the door when I come home and give me head bumps and purrs. I am so used to it, if I go to someone's home that doesn't have cats, I so disappointed because no one is greeting me. They would love the fountain, almost as much as I love them!

About eight years ago my cat entered the life of my children and myself. I was going through a divorce so things were a little crazy anyway, however we had each other and just about to add an unexpected "kitten member" to the family. The kids and I were going to a early afternoon movie "lilo and stitch" and we saw this tiny tiny kitten following a man into the theator from the parking lot...the kitten went right through the movies doors-who could blame her, it was HOT outside. We approached the man and it was not his kitten...I then explained to the manager that I was here to watch this movie with my kids and if they would keep her in the ticket sales area until after, I would take her home. I was suprised that he agreed to do this (that poor thing would have never made it with the busy streets and parking lot)...she was waiting for us after the movie and we even named her after one of the cartoon characters. She is the BEST cat, she NEVER goes outdoors and just loves to follow us and be around us all the time; we were all at the right place at the right time. We all NEEDED each other.

In September, a month after I started volunteering at the Oregon Humane Society, I walked into one the of the cat colony rooms and as soon as I sat down a cat named Queen Fatima ran right up to me and sat in my lap and fell right a sleep, she did this everytime I would go in that room. I thought to myself I HAVE to adopt this cat! Being only 16 I couldnt just decide when I could get a cat or not, I had to go to my parents. I told my parents about her and after alot of begging and bribing they decided I could adopt her. The next weekend we went back to the humane society and adopted her. It turned out she had been returned twice and had litter bow issues. I felt so bad, for the first month or so she wouldnt let you pick her up and the litter box issues seemed to be evident. I feel like she couldnt trust anybody and wanted to mark her territory because she had no idea where she belonged. She was a great cat, she just had some issues. But after some much needed love she truly came out of her shell. She loves to be held and always uses the litterbox. Shes lived here for about 8 months now and has found her FOREVER home. It just shows how forgiving cats are no matter what life they may have had before you met them. All they want is love and maybe some cat treats every once in a while. Every morning she wakes my parents up when the alarm gos off so they'll feed her. Shelter animals are different from pet store and breeder animals because they appreciate the smallest things. She has CHANGED myne and my families life for the better and now we always know to ADOPT and never buy.

My other cat would love the drinkwell because she'll meow in the bathroom untill you come in and turn on the sink so she can drink out of it, we think she has germ issues. haha

I am 37 years old, and share my home with beautiful cat companions. I had a vague interest in animal rights since I was a teenager and started reading about the issues. Later, I read a book called Kinship with Animals, a wonderful anthology of essays by kindred spirits who also cherish animals, including one poignant essay by PETA's own Ingrid Newkirk called "Fish Lessons". The stories in that book were touching and some even heartbreaking to read, and inspired me further in my decision to do all I can in my life to help animals, but I still did not take much direct
action. But since I have shared my life in the past few years with my 3 cats, all rescues, everything changed, and I got involved in
direct action helping the many suffering animals all over Puerto Rico, where I currently
live, and starting my own small organization here called ANIMAL CONCERNS PUERTO RICO. It as if the love I have for the cats in my home, helped me to finally expand outward to help other animals that are suffering; the ones at home were the doorway for me to the full spectrum of animal rights issues. We can all work in our "own backyard", doing what we can in our own private sphere, among our own circle of friends and the people we influence and situations we encounter in our day-to-day lives. If each person reading this can do something in their "own backyard", imagine all of our private spheres of life touching all the others, and think about the huge amount of change possible. It is overwhelming at times when you ponder the myriad of issues that you can get involved in when you choose to help animals, but I think that if each one can do something in their "own backyard", it is no longer overwhelming. Every supposedly small action I can personally take is actually HUGE when viewed from a higher perspective, knowing that each smaller action indeed ripples outward to combine with all the others in the "big ocean" of people who also care about animals.

I believe it is through being
able to cherish even ONE animal, through that feeling and love for that ONE,
by extension you can begin to open your heart wider and feel for and
love and care about ALL OF THEM. The ONE you care about is like a
doorway in your heart that opens up the flow of love and compassion
towards all the others. And it is that kind of love and compassion
that will change the world for animals, and by extension, for all of
us ultimately. "My" cats at home brought me to this point, and I am forever grateful for this, they opened up a whole world for me, the door opened in little cracks over the years, and the love and caring
I have for these 3 opened it all the way. I see their faces in every animal that I take action on behalf of, whether dealing with a feral cat that is sickly and needs help, whether writing a letter
to a government official on behalf of an animal situation, or standing in a protest handing out leaflets to educate and inspire the public at large. My organization may be small, but here in Puerto Rico, where there are suffering strays everywhere, dogs and cats all over the streets with very few concrete solutions in place, and endless scandals and crises of various abuse cases, every little bit of help from organizations and private individuals makes a huge difference.

Thank you for reading.

My cat, Hobbs, passed away last summer at the age of 22. However, I frequently find it necessary to rescue cats left behind by my neighbors in our condo complex.

The rescue effort that stands out in my memory is that of three kittens my friend and I named Meshach, Shadrach and Abednigo.

One stifling hot August day in the 1980's, my friend Liz and I kept hearing the sound of crying kittens in someone's garage. We knocked on doors, got permission to open garage doors and started searching. The garage we found the kittens in belonged to a neighbor who was away on vacation but the house sitter, who checked the condo twice a day but did not open the garage as a rule, gave us permission to unlock the door. The heat roared out at us and nearly knocked us down.

In a corner we found three newborn kittens, almost dead. We grabbed them, raced into the condo where Liz was staying, wet down washcloths and wrapped them up, trying with desparation to cool the kittens down. We breathed quick breaths into their noses and mouths to keep them breathing, and rushed them to a veterinarian.

On the way to the vet, Liz mentioned that this reminded her of the story in the Bible about three young Israelite men who refused to worship an idol and were thrown into a furnace on the orders of their king, but survived the ordeal because of their faith. We named the kittens after them: Meshach, Shadrach, and Abednigo.

Meshach, sadly, did not make it, but Liz adopted both Shadrach and Abednigo, and they both had long and happy lives.

I adopted my cat 8 years ago when he was 14 weeks old. His name is Sic Hamburger Sutton (thanks to my 7 year old, LOL). He has lower urinary tract disease, and has been hospitalized 3 times because of this. The 2nd time he was in the hospital, he had a heart attack while under anestesia. I have paid thousands of dollars for his treatment. I could not imagine my life without him. Even though he weighs almost 20 lbs, my favorite time of the night with him is when he lays on my chest, buries his face in my neck, and purrs. 6 months ago, I rescued a very tiny cat. She was only 6 weeks old when we got her, and could fit in the palm of my hand. Her mom had been abandoned by her owners in the very harsh Washington State winter. Luckily a caring neighbor took in the cat and her kittens, but couldn't keep them all. My kitten's name is Nala Sally Sutton. Her energy has worn off on Sic, and now they chase each other all day. Sic has never been more excited to bully someone! I thank God everyday for my feline family.

My cats remind me how important animals are and how we need to respect them. Both of my cats are rescue cats and are fixed. They help me in more ways than I can count.

Well, where do I start?

Misty, my seven year old cat, was given to me as a birthday present when I turned 11. At the time, I had no idea what animals were really like. I didn't know what to expect.

Misty is kind, sweet, follows me everywhere, and tolerated my childish games without bearing the smallest grudge. At a time when the rest of the world seemed to turn its back on me, she never faltered. When life was difficult, she gave me something to fight for and believe in. Most of all, she was a major reason why I reconsidered animals' rights.

I owe so much to my cat, more than words can say, really. I wouldn't be who I am today without Misty. :)

I adopted my cat Taji in Janurary 2006. My husband had deployed to Iraq a few months prior to me adopting her & I was extremely lonely. I needed someone to take care of & keep my company. I knew I wanted a cat & when I found Taji it was fate. She was in the third crate (my favorite number) & meowed while sticking her paw out at me. My heart had melt & I knew I had to bring her home. If I didn't have her with me to keep me company while hubby was in Iraq I would have been severely depressed. I love my baby girl. :)

My cat is really sick. He has to be in a collar all of the time now, or else he scratches open the tumour growing on his ear. They said that he's too old to do surgery without risking him going then. He doesn't seem to be hurting. I'm just spending all of the time that I can with him before he passes on. I got him on my 9th birthday. I'm 25 now. He's been part of my family almost a 2/3rds of my life. I'm so glad my son got to know him.

Ooh, I want one.

Princess Cuteyface recently changed my life for the better by calling a temporary truce in the battle we are having wherein I pay for her room and board, and she pees in my laundry.

Posted by: Jack | May 6, 2009 03:54 PM

My neighbor was cutting back his elephant ear plants in his yard when he hear a tiny yowl. Peering into the plant he found a tiny little kitten with his leg bleeding. He figured he had nicked it with this pruning knife. Knowing I was a nurse he ran him over to me. I managed to stop the bleeding and then hurried him off to the vet. The cut only required a couple of stitches but the vet said the kitten didn't seem old enough to be weaned as he was only 3-4 weeks so I fugured either he had wandered away from his mother or someone had simply dumped him. With special instructions about feeding and a bottle of kitten vitamins we set off home. By the time we got home his name was Lucky and it was the start of several weeks of 2 hour feedings until I could get him on solid food. Now he is 3 years old and although small he is a tough little thing and even my neighbor's big old lab makes way for him. He has much courage and a heart of gold and I love him to bits.

I share my home with 9 adopted feral cats and 2 abused terriers. They are the joys of my life. The cats were homed in my barn since I was told they would likely not be domesticated. That has been true for about half of them. The others now trust me enough to let me pet them briefly, and two have become brave enough to come out to the house and keep me company at a distance. The dogs took awhile to come around but are now very settled in to their lives as being happy well-adjusted dogs. I would very much welcome the opportunity to give them all a little more to enrich their lives by providing running water to drink from since I don't have a stream or anything like that. Thank you for the opportunity. Renee

My cat Laurel is so affectionate. I came in to her life when I married her owner. She took a while to come around but became so affectionate towards me. She rarely leaves my side. I trained her how to jump on my lap while I am at my computer desk and she loves to watch the pointer move across the screen. She is older and is starting to be in ill health but she still purrs and lets me know she loves me.

Gordon is a true gift. My husband adopted him for me as a surprise for Christmas. I had recently lost my beloved cat Simon. I was totally devasted. My husband does not like cats, but tolerates them for me. So for him to go out on his own and pick Gordon for me was amazing. After getting Gordon, a beautiful Siamese seal point kitten we discovered he was deaf. We live on 5 acres with huge trees. Gordon was left out one night and later we discovered him stuck in a tree about 70 feet in the air. Since he is deaf we could not get him to come down. He stayed in the tree for at least a week, when my husband finally got the fire dept out to get him down. We live in a small rural area and word quickly spread. People found it odd we would go to that extremely to get a cat out of the tree. Well, needless to say, Gordon did not learn his lesson. He went back up several different trees and the fire dept was called out at least 3 times to get him down. All the while, my husband who doesn't like cats grew to love Gordon. He even climbed a few trees to get him down. Gordon has since been put on "lockdown". He has been a blessing addition to our family and a celebrity in our small town. Gordon the deaf cat is truly loved in our house.

My cat is a rescued feral. Friends of ours found her on their rural property when she was only 10 days old. They nursed her, socialized her with their cats, and got her healthy. Three months later, she came home with us and now she's a pampered indoor kitty. I'm now a tireless supporter of the rights of feral cats. She would absolutely love this fountain, since she loves drinking out of the tub spigot... when she's brave enough to get near the water!

Magic was my best friend. I love him deeply and forever. With all that I went through he was by my side like and angel. I could tell what he was thinking and he could always tell how I felt. Then he passed away, I had him cremated and he is still by my side to this day. In my pain and grief, out of nowhere, a lady who rescues animals named Caroline found an absolute match to him named Midnight. Where I thought their was no more light he found his way back to me in a way and I am happy again, even though I miss Magic who was with me for 15 years and think of him everyday, Midnight is another angel sent by God. Thanks for this wonderful sweepstakes.

I adopted 2 baby sister kitties last year--Mia and Gracie. They came to me shortly after a time when my 86 year old dad was fighting to regain some normalcy in his life after having 3 surgeries and spending weeks in the hospital. After months of working a full time job and spending my off time with my parents helping my dad recuperate, I was feeling very depressed and overwhelmed. When my kitties came into my life, they made it fun to get up in the morning. They would wake me up with little kitty kisses. I looked forward to coming home from work just to see them. I can honestly say the changed me for the better!

My cat Scat is sooo funny, and cool and awesome. We adopted him as a stray kitten that was hanging out our neighbouhood with his brothers and sisters and adopted mother cat. He is the biggest hearted cat and he goes out looking for kittens that need help and brings them to our garden for feeding and rehoming. He has done that twice with litters of 5/6!! We call him the Mother Theresa of cats and he becomes very persistent and wont eat until they have all eaten (the kittens). He is also very feminine in the way that he acts and meows and he is a lover not a fighter. The coolest thing about him is that once when he was a kitten we brought him to the vet but he got spooked by a dog and ran out the vet's office into a nearby wood. Everyday we went looking for him and after 3 days we heard him meow and found him again!! He is just cool and loves to greet us with lots of noise when we come home!! He would love to frolick in that fountain. I know i live far but PLS send me one!!! Thanks Kelly

Hi, I have two rescue cats who make my life worth living, i have had depression and OCD since i was about 14 (im now 22). If it wasnt for the animals in my life i might not be here. Missy is a rescued stray who i adopted when i worked at a Shelter, she had a terrible skin allergy and the bosses were talking of putting her down, she was miserable in the shelter and i bonded with her quirky personality quickly and then took her home. Her skin is much better now and she is so happy.

Alfie was adopted from another shelter as a feral kitten, and has really come round to love people and other animals, he is always rubbing up against our dogs! the cuddliest cat i know!
Keep up the great work PETA,

I have 4 furbabies and all have changed my life for the better, they are all rescues 2 who have showed up at my back door 1 tossed out of a car window at 5 weeks old and 1 rescued from the SPCA. Weemer the one tossed from the car is the mommas boy, I recently had major surgery that left me with a 7 inch cut on my belly and weemer always needs daily muggles( where he climbs on my belly and does squishy paws) during my recovery he just knew something was different even though i put a pillow there it was still very painful and he knew this so he decided just for the time being my chest and shoulders were good enough, he was the best medicine I could have had. When i was sad he was a clown, when i just needed loves he was more than happy to give as much as i needed. All my babies are extremely special but Weemer, hes just a big mommas boy

my cat, max, is my best friend. :) his mother, a pregnant stray that wandered into my garage one day, rejected him when he was just a day and a half old. i believe now that it was because she knew he had stomache problems, he has always had trouble going to the bathroom. anyway, i went out to check on the newborn kittens and bring some food for the mother, and i found him half dead, freezing cold and crying. i immediately swung into action, slowly warming him up and feeding him warm infant formula. those long nights, getting up every 2 hours or so taught me that i have more patience than i knew of, and demonstrated my complete love for animals. now i am a veterinary assistant, training to become a vet tech, and maybe even eventually a veterinarian. all because of a poor little kitten named max :)

Our cat when still a kitten changed us by teaching us his ways ... the ways of a manipulative cat. Now, as an adult cat he is (or so he thinks he is because we allow this)the mini-god of our home and we bow to his every demand from food choices to giving him three-quarters of the bed at night so that he can stretch himself out. But food and sleeping spots is not his top manipulative ploy with us his keepers - that one goes to him creeping into our hearts so much so he has traveled the world with us - flying from the Middle East(where he was born as a feral cat) to live on an Island .... next he flew to Europe ... then to Africa and now he lives in America. And if we are to move again - for sure it might be in his future ... he will be popped into his travel box with many airline stickers from six years of travelling ... to move with us once again because we could never leave our "boss" behind.

I am an empty-nester who is missing children in the house. My two cats make me feel that I am never alone and provide the companionship that fills that void in my life. Those sweet eyes looking up from my lap are a real comfort.

I found my kitty when he was 4 weeks old. One day walking to my car after work to go home I passed the office building dumpster. I heard what sounded like little baby kitten or puppy cry's. Im thinking to myself, "Where in the world is that coming from?" So I stood there and listened. I heard more cry's. I approached the dumpster area as the cry's got louder. I started to talk to the cry's. At this point, I was right next to the dumpster. The screams and cry's were loud at that point.I then knew that there was an extremely young animal inside of the dumpster. I peek in. I couldn't see anything. I knew that I had to get into the dumpster to find the cries and screams. There was no two ways about it. I hoisted myself up onto the dumpster, and jumped in. I dug and sifted through the entire dumpster. I couldnt find anything. I dug and sifted more, through old rotted food, dental bio hazard, sticky soda cups and god only knows what else. I looked down and on the very bottom in the corner I saw this old, filthy, stinky, tattered beach towel in a ball at the bottom of the dumpster. I grabbed it ever- so- carefully... and low and behold... There was the most adorable kitten I had ever seen. Filthy, infested with flea's and tick's, eye's barley open and covered in goo, covered in dirt and grime from the dumpster, I swooped him up,and took him straight to the local 24 hour vet. He's been with me ever since. He is 8 now. He has been the most wonderful kitty. He sleeps on my pillow every single night and his nose has to be touching mine. I am so glad I passed the work dumpster when I did. If I hadn't, he very easily could have died or someone else would have found him and I wouldn't be as lucky as I am to have him in my life right now! His name is "poopy". He is the most beautiful russian blue you could ever imagine. He's my little buddy, my confidant, and my foot-warmer.- always.

My cat Sylvester changed my life. When I first saw him, he was already getting into trouble, he was a newborn kitten and his eyes were not even open yet, and he almost fell off the bed that him and the other kittens were sitting on. My mom rescued him from falling off and I knew that was the one I wanted to get when they were old enough to be given away. When the kittens were finally old enough, I was allowed to pick the one I wanted. I was looking at a small, shy gray kitten when I turned around and saw that same black and white cat that had almost fallen off the bed. "I want that one!" I said, and then, I was walking to the car with my new pet. I had to decide a name for him, and then I came up with the perfect name, Sylvester! But, every time I would try to pet him, he would bite me, or scratch me. But, When I wasn't trying to pet him, I was able to talk to him about anything. I know it seems silly, but Sylvester was like a best friend. I would tell him funny stories, and just hang out with him, he was my friend when I was lonely, and was like the perfect cat. But then, it happened. I knew he would bite someone someday, but I never thought it would be a little girl. When he bit her, we were afraid that they would put him to sleep. I didn't want my cat to be put to sleep, so we sent him to my grandmother's house. Now he lives out in the Country and he is so fat because they spoil him! Now we call him fat boy, and he is my BIG KITTY!!!!!!!!!! So that's why I want to win this drinkwell fountain, for my Sylvester!

We would LOVE to get our paws, eh hands, on this neat invention. This is the most streamlined version of this idea that I have seen thus far. I think that this item would very much help Haylie, our adopted black and white tuxedo cat, to keep her paws out of the toilet. Yes, our cat is very interested in the large, porcelain thing in the bathroom that we don't want her getting into. So please, do help avoid potty mouths and potty paws in our home, consider us for this helpful water application device for our curious feline. Thank you!

My cat, Samantha, just turned 4 years old. She spent 9 mos.in the shelter, before I adopted her. I call her my guard kitty, because she growls when anyone pulls in my driveway, or comes on my porch. It took her months before she would even come out from under my bed, but now she knows her position in this family, and has no problem letting my boys know. I have no doubt that she tries to talk, by the way she meows. If she could only speak, I think she would have a lot to say. She is my best friend.

My kittens really changed our lives. We had lost 2 cats and a dog within a 2 year period and were determined that we wouldn't have anymore pets until our old age. My daughter brought home 2 kittens that were abandoned by their mother. After getting up every 4 hours and feeding them by a dropper, there was no way we could part with them. They are so lovable. One will wake me in the middle of the night so I will rub its tummy. They really changed our lives.

Back in September of 2006, our first pet, had to be put down. Shortly after that, each month I would get more and more depressed. My pet was my companion and kept me company while my husband was at work. Finally, he took me to go look at Siberian Husky puppies in February 2007. I was so put off by the uncleanliness of the conditions that the farm home owner kept for these animals. The smell was horrible. I was ready to walk out, was very upset and disgusted with the entire matter and just couldn't fathom anyone keeping these animals the way she did. I gagged several times, thinking I was going to get sick. I had to open the door to get whiffs of fresh air. My husband asked me if I was going to hold one. I said no, just looking. He ended up holding one. Naturally, their puppies and so darn cute. I walked over to him and pet the puppy. The puppy was very timid and shy and I heard to not pick that kind. Then I turned around and one puppy in perticular, in his cage, came right up to me. Wagging his little tail, whining and pawing at me thru the cage. I tried petting him thru the cage, then asked to hold him. Wow, we did the puppy tests and he passed with flying colors. I ended up falling in love with him and we took him home that day. To this day, I believe I saved him from that puppy farm. Shortly after we got him home, I immediately called our local vet and we took him for a check up. He had several virus's from that farm he was at. Over time, they all went away. Plus, his coat smelled tons better. It took a good week or so to get that smell off him. It was bad. Because he was a puppy, so little and helpless....over a period of three months I was totally out of my depression. I was so focused on training him, watching him and taking care of him that I really didn't have time to sit and stew over my depression. So, in a way we both saved each other. He's my best bud. With me all the time. Love him lots and can't imagine how my life would be right now, had he not come into it. I tend to think that someone up there was looking out for me and brought us together. Seriously, if it hadn't been for him, I really don't know if I'd be here right now or not, it was that bad?! Eventually, I'd come to train him for regular everyday things, then I added a couple tricks in there. He likes to entertain me alot and make me laugh. I think he can sense when I'm getting depressed and will do things to help get me out of it. He's my "therapy" dog. I entered him in a Pet Idol contest and he won it back in 2007. It didn't really matter to me if he won or not, cause for me, he's still a winner no matter what.

After my 18 year old cat passed away in December '07, I said "never again will I have another pet." It was just too painful to lose them. My sister fosters rescue kittens (mainly ones she finds on the street herself), and with every kitten that passed through, she would ask me hopefully, "is this the one?" I would always answer no. So she finally stopped trying to get me to adopt a new kitten/cat. When she told me that she found 4 week old Dexter laying in a driveway, unable to move, skin and bones, only able to quietly hiss, I never thought he would become my new boy. But after meeting him, it was all over for me. He had lost much of his fur and was so thin that touching him made him cry out. Luckily he was disease-free, and with constant care and feeding, he became stronger. He is now almost one, healthy as a horse. His fur has grown back with a puffy-fluffy vengeance, and he is ready to tackle the world (and me!).

My kitties are my heart!

One day 7 years ago Pootie got out (silly thing was in heat and wanted a boyfriend!). I was devastated...I cried for days, I had to call off work, she's like my baby. A friend stopped by to console me 4 days later and I was standing outside with her. I heard some mewing and from out of the neighbors garage pops Pootie, she's crying and meowing so loud and I run towards her, barefoot through mud and twigs and I pick her up and hold her so tight, I thought she was never coming back to me! She was so skinny from being outside and I just held her so tight. I'll never forget that day, miracles really do come true. My friend that was with me at the time said she's never seen anything like it, it was like out of a movie! She's sitting next to me now, and so is her daughter, Squeakers..she apparently got that boyfriend cause then we had the blessing of kittens! They light up my life on a daily basis!

I think they'd love this fountain, they love to stare at water when it comes out of faucets, and this would be great for them!

I don't have a cat, but my sister does have a cat that would love to have this. A while back, her cat stopped eating and the only way the cat would drink was from a running faucet. The cat ended up having some surgery for some kind of blockage, but my sister's cat probably wouldn't have even made it if she didn't like drinking the running water so much.

Posted by: Aaron B from IL | May 11, 2009 01:00 PM

In all honesty when I first got my cat I hated them. I never wanted one because i was purely a dog person. However every night that kitten would crawl into my bed and keep me company. He was my constant companion and would only allow me to hold him and still slept with me every night as we grew older. I had a lot of family problems and he helped me get through them, and when he died it was one of the hardest parts of my life. However he did teach me to love cats (I now have two) and he taught me how to cope with things better than I ever could imagine an animal could.

I'm sure Oscar the cat & Chi-Chi dog would like this.

Oscar moved into my house when my son decided to get him as a kitten five years ago. He was supposed to be an indoor only kitty but he soon put the kabosh to that idea. He insists on being inside & outside & on his terms. If a door opens & he is anywhere near it, be will go in or out of it. It doesn't matter where it leads, he just loves to get people to open doors for him. He's such a sweet boy.

I am currently the caretaker/food provider/affection dispenser for two cats owned by my brother-in-law who is overseas in Afghanistan. We agreed to watch his cat for the year he is gone because he really needed someone too and because I had always thought about getting a cat and wanted to experience it first-hand before committing to one. It is completely different than I thought it would be: I heard cats were clean but by clean they meant they lick themselves in plain view while you are trying to eat dinner and then shed on everything that can possibly attract fur. I thought they were social but it turns out that social means they will hiss and scratch whenever the dog happens to be walking by, and then hide behind the couch to run outside quickly when the door opens, even though they know they are supposed to be indoor cats. I also thought they'd be low maintenance compared to my dogs who I walk every day, but the cats will take six hour naps in your clean laundry while you are at work earning money to pay for the detergent that will clean the laundry again. Then they will take a three hour nap on the computer monitor and then suddenly throw up all the expensive organic food you bought for them right onto the computer monitor, thus frying it and forcing you to wait five days for the new one to be delivered, plus pay for a vet bill to check on the upset tummy. So, just to be clear: I don't actually ever want a cat again but I do respect their right to live and I applaud anyone who can live with them, but instead of caring for cats myself, I will continue to fill up all the space in my house that I can with lovable dogs and donate money to the local no-kill shelter so that other people can take care of all the slobbery cats. Also, if for some reason you decide to take pity on me (and the poor cats who have to live with me for four more months), I will actually give the beautiful water dish to my brother-in-law along with the food dishes, scratching post, litter box, toys, string, cushions, and the remains of my curtains on the glorious day that he returns safely home to claim his beloved family members.

Seriously, I am always finding stuff floating in my dog Lucky's water and I mean, this is a clean house so I don't know where it comes from. Not only that but I know it gives me the heebie jeebies to find anything floating in my water and he is a part of the family so he is treated like that too. He is a family "member" not "just a dog" and he gets clean water and this would be a good idea for him and I would feel better too.

I was transferred with my job from California to Oregon, where I knew no one. Within 9 months of my move, on the advice of a friend, I adopted my cat PITA Kitty for a companion when she was only 7 weeks old. She sleeps with me every night, is there when I go to bed and when I get up. She has always been there, especially in the tough times. She was with me in the early morning when I received the call that my father had passed away and she was there to comfort me. She is going on 13 years this month and I don't know what I would do without her.

Tinkerbell aka Tinker is my sunshine she is a maine coon mix. Her and her brother & sister (Peter & Wendy) came to me as fosters. Tinker was so loving. I had my tonsils removed and she sat with me almost continously. She was only about 6 weeks old. A tiny fur ball. Her fur is as soft as silk. Then at 6 months the worst thing ever happened. Tinker was on top of a dog kennel where a foster pup was being kept and as she went to jump off her leg got caught. It was shattered. Vet recommended amputation. So we did and now she knows no different. She is a normal cat (she thinks) and is the love of my life. I am pregnant now and she loves to lay on my belly and fill the baby move. She does this at least twice a day.

Our kitty- Coconut came to us for a reason. His owners abandon him in a large field. My daughter and I were walking by and saw a little white fur ball sitting in the field all alone. I picked him up and took him home. Later that day we went to the vet only to find out he was only 6 weeks old. The week before our beloved dog of 12 years had passed away. My daughter had to bottle feed Coconut for 2 weeks and nurtured him back to health. We think he was meant to be with us after losing our precious dog. Coconut now adores my daughter and is her 'angel'.

Stormy was an unexpected find. After the end of an 18 year marriage I was alone in an apartment without much and a mailman had found a small kitten in a storm drain after a bad storm. He rescued her and placed her in a mail tub and did not know what to do next as the baby was crying and hungry. I was called and asked if I would like a kitten. What could I say afterliving with a man who hated anilmals and kids for 18 years - I took her. She was a tiny kitten the vet estimated at about 2 weeks old that would need bottle fed and hand raised. So I purchased everything needed and had a baby to take care of. With the need to feed her during the day she went to work and everywhere else with me - in my purse! To this day 2 years later when I sit my purse on the floor she hops right in and is ready to go for a ride in the car. She has brought me such joy, company and comfort.

My husband used to work on a farm in the evenings. He kept telling me about one of the barn cats who looked just like our cat "Jynx." One night, he came home with a little surprise..a scrawny, scared, black and white cat with a bunch of green matter in his eyes. He looked horrible! We had to basically "tame" him, since it was obvious he had never been handled before. We called him "Buster." I took him to the vets, and he ate regular kitten food and not just fighting for cow's milk. Three years later, I now have a neutered, well matured, loving little kitty..whom I cherish everyday. One funny thing is when the alarm is going off in the morning and I am too tired to get out if bed, Buster will paw at my face ever so lightly until I get up and movin'..I think that is pretty cool. Also, he follows me to bed and will lay beside me all night, but he HAS to have a paw on me at all times, it makes ME feel loved!

I love my cat. I got my cat kirby when I still had my other cat named Mango. They were so great together. They played with each other, groomed each other, and even on cold nights slept in the same cuddle cup. Unfortunately one day last month, mango died at three years old of unknown causes. It was so sad and I can see how much kirby misses him. He wakes up crying in the morning for me to come play with him and pet him. I would be lost with my cat :(

How our little fur-daughter has changed my life for the better... that's an easy one. :-) My life is changed because before she joined the family nearly 6 years ago, life was a lot more subdued and there wasn't as much joy within these walls.

She has changed my life because the days now start with a smile when she comes through the hallway begging for her breakfast.

I worry over every little thing that seems to be wrong with her, like the same mother hen I've always been with my human daughter. :-)When our babies aren't feeling right, there's just something missing that we can't shake until they're better.

She loves traveling with us, even long road trips, so that has also enhanced life. I'd hate leaving her somewhere while we're gone.

Life will always be richer for this family than it was before a furry little angel graced us with her presence.

We found our Cougar outside, cornered by the puppies, shivering and covered with mud. We suspect someone dropped him off, as we live in the country. He has been a pure joy to the family. He now rules the house, including the outside dogs, who will not come close to him. He is also like having another kid. He has developed allergies and has to be taken to the vet every few months for allergy shots! We just love him and enjoy his "feisty" personality!

We live in the country so people like to drop off there cats. Some stay and some wander down the road. Well they become wild but for some reason my daughter can always get them to come to her. We had one droped off out here about a year ago and our daughter started to call him tuna. Now that cat as become apart of the family. If we go some where he will hear us coming home and jet to the porch and try to beat us in the house. My daughter is a big time cat lover.

It is truly a home with cats. Our cats are great with the kids and it is delightful to tuck in a child at night and a cat is purring on the foot of the bed. I love that!!

My cats will love this.

My big guy gives me something to look forward to everytime I come home from long trips. He came to me as a stray when I was in high school 8 years ago after my other cat (my very first cat) was stolen; he was such a timid, skinny, flea-bitten little thing! Now, he is quite the big boy at 19lbs, and has such an outgoing personality! Nobody wanted him; my parents said he wasn't to come in the house, our neighbors said "No way!" and I had to secretly keep him in a laundry basket outside until my parents came around.

Unfortunately, last year I had to have a friend care for him while I was away for almost a year and she did nothing of the sort; his long hair was never brushed and became matted, his nails were long and painful, he ballooned to 24lbs, lived in filth, and when I came back, there were 8 large open bloody wounds on his back from where she had cut him with scissors! Worst of all: he was terrified of me.

He is quite relaxed now! We both moved out of the city and back in with my parents where he is free to roam with the kitties (and doggies) he grew up with. He is healthy and happy, and we both spend every evening on the front porch, and every night cuddled in bed. He is such a trooper :)

My fluffy tortishell cat Amber is my little guardian. She was given to me as a gift from my Dad on my eighth Birthday many years ago. He purchased her from a shelter as a kitten and she has grown to be the most amazing being I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Now Amber is thirteen and she has witnessed my growing up at all stages. She and I have grown together. When I was 18 I hit my head and had a concussion that lasted one year. My darling kitty would lay by my head and place her pawn on or near it while I slept and rested. She would warn those who dared to wake me with a quick sharp and low "Mow". She meant business! On days I felt sorry for myself she would curl up on me with her face in mine and look at me with her half opened, loving eyes reminding me that I had so much to be thankful for and to look forward to. Ambi and I have a special connection and she truly helped me get through the tough time of recovering from a concussion. She was always there to remind me that my life would be normal once again. Ambi always had and continues to have lots of sand papery kisses for me. She is the little light of my life and I truly feel that the rate at which I recovered was greatly influenced by her fuzzy paw upon my head and endless amounts of love. She is a companion and friend like no other.

My husband is a veteran and when he returned from the war he was suffering severe Post Tramatic Stress Disorder he was locked in his own world. One daylast year as he was leaving the Veteran's Hospital a kitten was sitting on his car looking at him. He immediatly picked him up and started to hug and pet him. Smokey the cat we found that day helped my husband to open up and be able to show love again. He goes to every couselling session with my husband and has been a blessing to my family. It is amazing how one cat has transformed one soldier.

Great contest could really use this in my house with a cat and 4 chihuahuas running around

Meowgi is our fluffy ragdoll cat. He is so much a part of our family that my husband and I call him our son (we currently have no children). When we come home from work he runs to see us and we give him a big hug and kiss. I hate to leave him every day and can't wait to get home to see him.

Meowgi would totally love this Pet Fountain. Every morning he wakes us up and goes into our bathroom and jumps up on the bathroom sink and meows until we fill up the sink with fresh running water for him to drink from. Although I love his cute morning routine it would be lovely to offer him this perk all day long.

Thanks for the giveaway!

My granddaughter and I went to the local shelter to pick out a cat to fill the void left when my 15 year old developed kidney failure. I had a specific cat in mind - short hair, black or black and white, already declawed. We went into a large room with several cats and I sat down on the floor to play with them. One cat came over and promptly climbed in my lap and basically refused to leave. Every time I moved her she just came back. She wasn't what I wanted - long haired, tortoiseshell, with all her claws. But she is my baby. She refuses to go outside, her favorite spot is in my lap or sleeping beside me and she greets every visitor as her new best friend.

This is something My toby would love he is so crazy about water he has to drink from every water bowl and sink in the house he makes the rounds and does this everytime he drinks water. I never saw a cat that was so crazy for water you can't use the sink without him drinking first and always there when I turn on the water! Got to love my crazy toby never saw any cat drink that much water at one time and has to wash his paws while he drinks too! I saw this before and thought that this would be perfect for toby to drink from because he loves it when the water is running! great givaway thank you! and my toby thanks you :)

After I had spinal surgery, I was in the hospital for 5 days and my cat, Oscar, missed me so much that when I came home and my husband settled me in the recliner with pain meds, a drink and a pillow, Oscar came a sat in my lap and would not leave my side until it was bed time. Then he made sure he slept up on the pillow by my head and followed me by the walker to the bathroom and back to bed. He did this for several nights, only leaving me to relieve himself and eat/drink. Now that I am up and around he is a little better. He still sits on my lap while I am at the computer - which makes for som mighty hard typing sometimes. Whenever I have to leave for the doctor he is very depressed and I get sad eyes, we take him in his carry bag where ever we can, he is very well behaved. I am disabled, so am home most of the time and is my pride & joy and I love him to death.

Zero is the name of my amazing cat. I got her when she was a little kitten and she has always been by my side. I lived with my neglectful boyfriend for 2 years and sat alone at my house not allowed to leave or have anyone come visit me, then I got Zero and she made everything seem better. She is a crazy cat.. loves to play, loves to be outside and right next to me. And now she makes sure my new boyfriends are good... i know when she likes them when she sits on their lap. If not.. you won't see her til they are gone. My crazy cat deserves something as fun and crazy as this

Both my indoor cats are so funny. If I need a laugh, they sure do provide. One cat in particular loves to cuddle with me (on her terms, of course), which is great!

My kids are grown and don't need me anymore. I had been feeling very lonely and depressed so I went to a "free kitten" home to get a free female kitten. Well, a little siamese climbed right up my leg and I said "I'll tak her!!". The owners then informed that the siamese cost $50. I couldnt' really afford it, but since she chose me I doled out the dough. Then as I was taking "Muffy" home I noticed her beautiful blue eyes and immediately changed her name to "Frankie Blue Eyes". Good think cuz after I got her home and she was walking around, I notice she was actually a he, lol!!

Well, that little baby now weighs 18 lbs and is the love of my life. I had been so depressed, I can't say I'd be here for sure had he not chosen me. He is my soul mate. I can say his name from anywhere in my house and he immediately answers me with a yowl. I always tell my kids he's saying "Meouwmmm".

That big fella has saved my life and my sanity.

My best friend, my darling, my love of my life, a black cat named maa-maa who dies suddenly and without warning on my kitchen floor beside his water bowl some 8 yrs ago was the BEst thing that ever happened to me in my life and I mean it. He was always by my side to comfort me as im a sickly person with disabilities and he never complained about me wanting to hug him to death and hold him all the time, he was just the opposite, he loved each second I could tell, he loved me just as much as I loved him maybe more. I still cry so hard over him all these yrs later, he touched me like no other ever has and made my life better, I still cant understand why he had to die so abruptly, so quickly I never even got to tell him good bye, im starting ti cry right now, I mean it, its so ahrd without him I only hope when im dead and gone I will be able to see him again my hole in my heart just feels like it was yesterday when he fell over and let out his last little yelp in the kitchen but I will never be complete again.I never knew I could love something someone so much. Please maa maa know that mommy still loves you Sincerely

Max, my adorable orange tabby came into my life after a horrible breakup six years ago. I had talked about adopting a cat and went with a friend to Denver's Dumb Friends League. While I was looking for a kitten, they showed me the adult cats. I was set on viewing other cats but the way he was pawing at the pen as the assistant was writing down my information just melted my heart. Last year he was having trouble breathing and I took him to the vet thinking that it was possibly asthma. After several tests, he was diagnosed with Peritoneoperiacardial Diaphragmatic hernia which is a hernia where his small intestine, omentum, a liver lobe and the gall bladder were all herniated into pericardial sac. Surgery was scheduled for the following morning but the outlook was grim. I was a wreck the entire day until they called to say that the surgery was successful. While recovering, he also caught an upper respiratory infection which made his healing process take even longer than expected but nearly a year later, he's nearly back to his fighting self. The surgery itself was over five thousand dollars but every single cent was worth having Max around for more head butts and kisses.

We have a rescue minpin who has just learned that he no longer needs to hoard food, but water is a different story, I am always trying to keep the water full for him and this would truly be a wonderful gift for him.
