'Octoprop' Earns Blink 182's Mark Hoppus Props From peta2

If you don't already track Blink 182's Mark Hoppus' every move through his Twitter page, allow me to fill you in on something awesome that one of our Blink-loving staff members spotted last week:

Ask and ye shall receive, Mark!

Mark made the compassionate choice to use a plastic prop rather than a real octopus for his photo shoot, so peta2 is giving him a Compassionate Citizen Award. He'll also receive a framed certificate and a card signed by peta2 staffers.

Octopuses are intelligent and sensitive animals who have been observed communicating with each other. They're able to grasp objects with their tentacles just like we can with our hands, and some have even been taught to unscrew jar lids in order to retrieve food inside.

Here's to Mark for showing that "all the small things" deserve compassion and respect!

This award is ridiculous. Mark Hoppus is not a vegetarian and doesn't care about animals. He probably only got a prop octopus because he didn't know where to find a real one. "Awards" should be saved for real champions of animals, not D-Bags who don't give a crap. Otherwise "awards" are meaningless.

actually, it doesnt matter if hes a vegetarian or not, he still saved a least 1 animals life, by paying $1000 bucks. so u guys dont know wat ur talking about

Hey! I think that's great! Every little bit helps! It was by the help of baby steps that PETA came to be how it is today. I say give him an award! Why not?!

It was the right thing for him to do, and when people do the right thing we should applaud that, even if he is not veggie. I just can't believe that an octopus would be allowed to die for a photo shoot. Isn't that illegal?

Maybe if this catches more people will use props instead of actual animals, this type of award should be encouraged!

Positivity is a good thing. Sometimes people need to start with baby steps. Not everyone is going to go veg and cruelty free overnight. Every journey starts with one step :o)
Perhaps if Hoppus and fellow celebrities like him get positive attention from good humane choices, they will continue to make those same kind of choices again and again.

Wow, just because mark isn't a veggie doesn't mean he shouldn't be given any credit for this. You don't know if he doesn't care about animals and you sir, are making veggies look bad @ this moment.
