Miley
The following is a guest post from peta2’s Patricia

We’ve seen tons of stories and photos of Miley Cyrus stopping on the side of the road to rescue strays. So we weren't one bit surprised when we found out that she had rescued some chickens from the set of her new flick, Hannah Montana: The Movie.

Apparently, Miley fell in love with one of the chickens on the movie set and decided to take her and several others home because, according to the article, she thought "they were sad to be working." (Awww, of course they were―animals aren't actors!) The article also alludes to the fact that she may be asked to go naked for one of our campaigns—um, no. She's underage, for goodness' sake! Not that we wouldn't LOVE for her to star in any ad for PETA—Miley, in case you're reading this, we think you'd make a beautiful "Angel for Animals"!

When we find out about celebs (or anyone!) who do nice things for animals, we like to acknowledge it, so PETA is giving Miley Cyrus our Compassionate Citizen Award.

Whoa, that's awesome. I never liked Miley Cyrus before but now I do!

Posted by: Canaduck | April 13, 2009 02:41 PM

I'm so happy she saved them and surprised since she doesn't seem like she would do that.

Too bad though she has her own cosmetic line by Cover Girl and claims to be veggie even though she says she eats sea animals.

Posted by: Kelly | April 13, 2009 03:33 PM

Well... I guess like something about her..

Posted by: Kylie H. | April 13, 2009 05:57 PM

go vegan

Posted by: annette | April 13, 2009 09:27 PM

i didnt expect that one of mileys purpose is to act like an angel for poor animals...

very nice, that was a very nice..
go miley....
do it always to make your carrer more success.

not only for peta but also for animals...

love you miley...

Posted by: roxanen | April 14, 2009 01:45 AM

YAY MILEY!!!
I'm going to see the Hannah Montana movie next tuesday. :)

Posted by: Amber Falobas | April 14, 2009 07:24 AM

Now she just needs to go vegetarian. She has said she was but she still eats meat.
At least she's nice to animals.

Posted by: Kelly | April 14, 2009 10:36 AM

i think this is great one more reason for me to be supportive of my children having her as a role model

keep this behavior up show the world that not all girls in the public eye go on the misleading path

Posted by: MELODY | April 14, 2009 12:39 PM

Yay! Congrats Miley!
I'm so happy she is recieving this award :D

Posted by: Anna | April 14, 2009 03:24 PM

Great example for her young fans.

Posted by: NT | April 14, 2009 05:34 PM

I hate that she gets a lot of negative press. She seems like a good enough person. People shouldn't judge her without knowing her. I would love her a whole bunch more though if she became a full vegetarian. Or better yet, vegan. She is a role model for so many people that her doing an ad for you guys would be fantastic! You should ask her :)

Posted by: Sophiya | April 14, 2009 06:38 PM

i am soooo happy for miley & the animals she rescued(and for the animals she'll rescue in the future) i am a huge fan of mileys and ever since i heard about this ive become a bigger fan!!!! (and if u love seeing animals in there natural habitat then go see Hannah Montana:The Movie,And Disney Nature Film "Earth"-In Theaters April 24th)Little Girls Can Really Look Up To Miley(A True Role Model)

Posted by: Kharique | April 14, 2009 09:01 PM

That was nice of her. Obviously you wouldn't ask miley to pose naked for PETA at her age. Maybe when she's older you could.

Posted by: Justine | April 14, 2009 09:10 PM

I really like her now ;)
thats awesome!!!

Posted by: karla | April 14, 2009 10:56 PM

I'm a 36 year old man who doesn't watch much Hanna Montana, but after heraing about her teaming up with the ASPCA, and now this, I am behind you 100% Miley! And who knows, maybe I'll sit down and watch some Hanna Montana with my 2 rescued dogs! Keep up the great work Miley!

Posted by: Robert Anderson | April 15, 2009 12:02 AM

I can imagine this happening with her simply because she grew up on a farm. HELLO??!!! She had many animals on the farm, so this isn't surprising. What is surprising is that I haven't heard of one celebrity who has adopted a shelter pet or a stray pet!

Posted by: A. Wallace | April 15, 2009 12:33 AM

I'm not a big fan of hers, but I'm really glad to hear this! She's not just another ditzy Disney actress who is after the money.
Anyone who helps animals is awesome in my book!

Posted by: Kaitlin | April 15, 2009 09:29 AM

Go vegan.

Posted by: Nick | April 15, 2009 10:28 AM

I'll try to remember how kind she is the next time her parents shut down Disneyland for the day just so Miley and friends can have a good time, disappointing the thousands of regular kids who had counted on going to the Magic Kingdom that day.

Posted by: Rev. Meg Schramm | April 15, 2009 01:23 PM

or how about the time Disney shut down Disneyland for the day to use Miley's Sweet 16 as the precursor to their new offer of giving people a free ticket to Disneyland on their birthday? or using that same day to give $1 million to Youth Service America? or using that same day to have Miley spend her supposed Sweet 16 party to perform for 5000 of her fans. i remember the Disney Sprouse brothers being interviewed and they said they hoped Miley had fun in the end because the whole time they saw her working at her own party. thank you for being so ignorant Rev. Meg Schramm!

Posted by: rii | April 15, 2009 04:50 PM

I never liked Miley Cyrus before but now I do!
Way To Go! :)

Posted by: ashley | April 15, 2009 09:18 PM

Aww Thanks Miley!...Your fans are proud of you!

Posted by: amy | April 15, 2009 10:32 PM

it's good that she wants to help, but it's annoying that she waited until AFTER they were done using the chickens on the film...

Posted by: Catherine | April 15, 2009 11:50 PM

I'm not suprised. . . . She's God lovin n a very good person. . . . .

Posted by: Siddhartha | April 16, 2009 01:13 AM

Rii's comments are a big reason PETA is not taken seriously.

Thank you for informing me about the other things, rii, but name calling reveals your basic immaturity. There are better ways to inform people without insulting them.

Posted by: Rev. Meg Schramm | April 16, 2009 01:12 PM

wow, miley was great :)

Posted by: Samantha | April 16, 2009 01:20 PM

Oh wow! haha I never thought MILEY would do something like that! Too bad shes not a vegetarian or vegan You should ask her to star in PETA commercials..that would be outstanding! Great job Miley!

Posted by: Carly | April 16, 2009 02:03 PM

I love animals, mi dog is called Simba, and i love he. I amb 11 years old, but i am little, because, my dream is be a great partner for PETA
:)

Posted by: Laia | April 16, 2009 02:44 PM

hey Rev. Meg Schramm,

im just trying to defend someone who cant defend herself here. based on your comment, was it not insulting to miley cyrus? you can say its just sarcasm but so was my remark. but its not like i called you a name or cussed at you. the fact is that you were being ignorant for assuming what the media writes about miley is automatically true, were you not? i was just using the same tone as you. and if you find it insulting, then well, take a good look at yourself. but of course i could have been the bigger person, but i am quite sarcastic myself so i decided not to.

Posted by: rii | April 16, 2009 05:02 PM

there will always be little comments about what she ISN'T doing right- but good for her that she makes conscious choices that have a large impact- great representation of her generation.

Posted by: Catherine | April 16, 2009 05:26 PM

Aww, that was really nice of Miley! :)

Posted by: Lexi | April 16, 2009 06:02 PM

Just one thing...for the person who stated that she models for Cover Girl...

I believe that Cover Girl no longer tests on animals. (maybe this is incorrect, not sure...)

But she's not a veggie if she eats fish!

Posted by: Cathy | April 16, 2009 07:02 PM

As long as she is taking care of them and not eating them thats all that really matters.

Posted by: Lisa | April 16, 2009 07:54 PM

that was a generous thing of her to do anf it shows she has kindness for animals in her heart
and if she wants to eat meat then so it is, it is nobodys business what she eats, focus on ur own problems and leave other to live their live the way they see fit
right on miley u go girl

Posted by: wabe | April 16, 2009 08:08 PM

i love miley cyrus soooooo much! i am her BIGGEST english fan. she is amazzzzzing. and this makes her even better!

Heads up for Miley for savin g the chickens from doing things so unnatural. I am beginning to like her. Yet, I believe that Cover Girl is still using animal for experiments (from PETA mag). So Miley, for the sake of the suffering animals purely for cosmetic reasons, stop doing any advertising for this company. There are numerous ways to look wonderful without causing pain to the innocents. Many more (human and other animals) will love you more.

It's people like Miley who make a difference everyday, it's the simplest things that can help. Amazing job Miley! Love your new movie! And all the bad fuss and rumor's about her, everyone's a sweetie deep down at heart, and drama just causes people's feelings' to get hurt, so please, we all make mistakes and whether you like Miley or not, you can have that opinion to yourself without being hurtful. Congratulations Miley, you are a true angel. Love ya :]

♥ Haley.

cool story. so what happened to the chickens after? every1 live happily ever after??

Posted by: garett | April 16, 2009 08:59 PM

RE; A.Wallce comment " What is surprising is that I haven't heard of one celebrity who has adopted a shelter pet or a stray pet!"

There has been quite a few celbs who have adopted shelter dogs, Charlize Theron, Jake Gyllenhaal, Drew Barrymore, David Duchovny, Mathew McConaughy etc etc the list goes on. So, some celbrities are doing their part to make a difference!

Posted by: Cass | April 16, 2009 09:15 PM

i don't like miley cyrus, but i do appreciate what she is doing for these chickens.

Posted by: lizzy | April 16, 2009 09:30 PM

she can educate her fan base on compassion for all animals...this is a good start

Posted by: lance | April 16, 2009 09:35 PM

Posted by: Elizabeth | April 16, 2009 09:39 PM

YEAH! I recently became a fan of Miley's song The Climb. Take a listen! I am very happy to hear about her animal rescue. Go Miley! Now I really do want to see her movie and we don't do many movies.

Posted by: Les | April 16, 2009 09:42 PM

I never had any time for Miley until now. If only more young stars would do the same. What a fantastic example she sets

Posted by: NIamh | April 16, 2009 09:49 PM

Posted by: genesis | April 16, 2009 10:23 PM

Posted by: Maryann | April 16, 2009 10:50 PM

Man, what an AWESOME person to have for our animal loving team- she's such a huge celeb and so many little girls look up to her! Rope her in PeTA, rope her in!

Just remember guys, don't judge meateaters too harshly- we all (most of us) used to do it too! All it takes is some education and an open heart.

Go Miley! Keep up the good work.

Posted by: Meredith | April 16, 2009 10:56 PM

Lets not overestimate her for god sake! She saved some chickens and that's very VERY cool, but she should do more than that to receive some award.

Posted by: is | April 16, 2009 11:48 PM

Beautiful AND kind to animals!
What a wonderful kid and an inspiration to her peers! You are a very lovely young lady Miley! Keep up your animal advocacy!

Well Done Miley!
On a different note, answer to a previous comment - Don't you find a lot of people that call themselves vegetarian still eat fish? This does annoy me, as it makes the meat eaters think this is correct.
A Vegetarian DOES NOT EAT MEAT OR FISH, basically anything that bleeds!

Is there a way we can thank her?? Let her know how we love what she does for the animals

Posted by: Jake | April 17, 2009 09:42 AM

I'm so happy that Miley has a big heart. People are so quick to judge, but when you see someone has compassion for animals, you should realize that person has higher standards than people may give him/her credit for. My daughter loves her of course because she's a tween, but I've forwarded this article for her so she has another reason to keep Miley as her idol. People need to lay off of the bad publicity because this is so much nicer.

Posted by: ACP--Chicago, IL USA | April 17, 2009 09:47 AM

i think it was really nice of you to keep them rather then send them to slahter!!! all i can say is thank you =)

It is amazing how news travel all over the world via email.. Im from Peru and dad is from AUS... and I have always seen on tv PETA work and I love it.. I would like to help you cuz i love animals.. It is such a wonderful thing that Miley is doing good things for animals, Gratz Miley.. you are growing and showing us how mature you could be. Thnak you for being so nice with our fellow animals.

Posted by: Luciana White | April 17, 2009 11:29 AM

Everyone is saying she should go vegan or vegetarian, that's her choice. It isn't fair to impose your views or try and force your views on somebody. Yes, you can give them the info and try to educate them, but you shouldn't force somebody to do it, I don't like the fact animals are eaten for meat, but I don't try and force other people to do it, it's personal choice.

At least she is doing something to help animals!

Posted by: Zoe | April 17, 2009 11:57 AM

Awesome job girl! My veg kids LOVE you, and it's fabulous to have you doing kind things for animals and making you an even stronger role model!

Good job Miley, good job. I think you are a girl with a big big heart, keep on like this!

Posted by: Gabriela | April 17, 2009 01:26 PM

I have never before expressed an opinion of Miley, because I am an adult with more important things to concern myself with. (if i had a child looking up to her, that would be the only reason to be concerned) But I would like to say that I am very proud of Miley, and glad to hear that PETA is acknowledging this minor's actions. I think those of you that have negative things to say, should consider her age and mentality. When I was 17 I was more worried about my hair and boys, then animals. It was not until I was older, making decisions on my own, learning about the world that I decided to become a vegetarian and animal rights supporter. For a young woman, in my eyes, she is setting a great example for others her age. We must all remember that all actions that help animals are good--don't knock her for eating fish--praise her for helping chickens. If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all. I'm sure as Miley gets older, and more informed she will take the step to becoming a full vegetarian or vegan.

Posted by: Maggie | April 17, 2009 08:41 PM

Her music is terrible
but she's an overall good person

Hopefully she goes vegetarian soon...
Then we'd all like her more.
And plus this is good cuz all the 12 years old fans of hers might consider vegetarianism.

Posted by: elle | April 20, 2009 03:36 PM

I agree with Melissa, she's still young but she's already doing some nice things for animals, it's a good start. We need more people like her as role models.
PETA really atracts animals activists from all over the world: I'm brazilian of hungarian origin, living in Guadeloupe, French West Indies with my husband for the last four years. We adopted several stray cats and dogs (I won't tell you how many...) and I'm a recent PETA member but we still didn't go entirely veggie or vegan, although it's a plan for the near future. So I think Miley still have time to get there too. She's on the right track, at least.

Miley gets my vote for big sweetie of the month. What a awaren young woman. most would care about getting home from set to go out with their friends, but Miley spent her off time making a safe and happy home for some blessed chickens. What a person. I love Miley's attitude.

Just because she's done something nice, doesn't mean she's doing it to make her career even better. She's already making millions, and she's talented, and she has millions of fans, their is no need for her to try to do such a thing to make it better, it's already going strong.
Miley rocks!

Posted by: Leaf | April 22, 2009 07:44 AM

Ok, pep seems to forget that she's already posed from some pretty steamy pics. But that's beside the issue. The issue is the animals here and it's great that people are considering the well being and proper treatment of the lesser creatures. It would be even better if people were to start treating each other as well as they expect animals to be treated. I can't believe that some people treat animals w/ more respect, care and love than they do a human being.

Posted by: phyllis | April 25, 2009 11:37 PM

Chickens don't have the capacity to feel "sad", and that statement just proves Miley Cyrus' idiocy. I'm from Africa, and in Africa, meat is considered a delicacy and vegetarianism is completely unfathomable. The spoiled, rich people in North America refrain from eating meat because they treat animals like humans, but that is going against human nature and being extreme about something that doesn't derserve as much attention as human adversity. It makes me sick to see awards given to such petty acts by celebrities when so many non- celebrities that are truly compassionate and ethical towards the starving and destitute HUMANS in the world go unrecognized.

Posted by: Rosie | April 26, 2009 07:14 PM

Does she eat meat?

Posted by: Kathleen | April 26, 2009 09:29 PM

way to go Miley!!

Posted by: Anik | April 26, 2009 10:25 PM

Eurgh! 'Scuse, but moral ethics matters here...why don't you try getting Tom Cruise to pose n**** instead? This is just sexual bias. Why convert to vegetarianism if you don't observe moral ethics first?

This is the wrong image being portrayed here...Miley Cyrus is a model for tweens, and posing n**** isn't going to do her career any good.

Is PETA an organisation that is trying to achieve their goals through underhanded, morally wrong and discriminated ways? I hope not. Then why display such a degrading view of feminity? Cyberporn and discrimination is bad enough without anyone aggravating the situation.

And isn't Ingrid Newkirk a female too? Doesn't ANYBODY believe that "sexiest veg" is a completely underhanded way to catch the public's attention?? Why DEGRADE the name of females??? Go degrade someone else, PETA!!

George Bush, maybe. He started the acceleration of global warming in the first place. [Why didn't Al Gore become president?!?!? Why oh WHY!!!]
I just hate politics. PETA would win more people over if they stop trying these underhanded methods out.

And BTW, I'm quite sure that EVERY grown-up wears either eu-de-cologne or perfume or whatever. And I have this really stunning announcement to make!!! Drumroll, please...
And here it is!-

THERE ARE ENOUGH MICE IN THIS WORLD.

Don't think so? Well then, go volunteer yourself to be the test subject for Covergirl.
And I TOTALLY agree with Zoe. It's her choice for everything. Don't try to force her or influence her.
Don't agree with that?

GO LIVE HER LIFE.

But, Miley, what were you doing with those chickens anyway?? Getting your "brother" to run around trying to imitate them?
Haha XD lolz.

Anyway, it's a start. But remember; it's one thing to be on the right track, but yet another to be run over because you're sitting still.

See, it's not good or bad. Just is.

Just is.

--Titannica.thx!

Posted by: titannica | April 27, 2009 05:14 AM

Are you kidding? The internet and tabloids are covered with pictures of her shoving cheeseburgers down her throat and PETA gives her an award? While you're at it PETA why not give Chik-Fil-A an award for sparing so many cows and pigs!
