I was saddened to hear of her passing. I was heartened to read on CNN.com that her family asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to PETA which I have just done. I hope that everyone takes the time to remember this genuinely lovely human being.

I just heard about this on FOX News. They reported that the family sayx donations may be made in Bea's name to either her scholorship foundation or PETA.

The Golden Girls is my favorite show ever. I love all four girls equally, but I especially loved the differences in each of them; their different personalities, voices, heights, they are all just so wonderful. Bea will be sorely missed. I remember when Miss Arthur played Angela Landsbury's best friend in the broadway musical, "Mame." She and Miss Landsbury sang a hilarious duet titled "Bosom Buddies" in which they repeatedly fired insults at each other but let the audience know that everything was okay because "Who else but a bosom buddy will tell you the whole stinking truth?"

That performance was a show stopper, literally...it took quite a while for the audience to calm down and stop laughing.

I'm glad she was a "bosom buddy" for animals.

I'm sorry to say I have never met her. But I only knew her on her show GOLDEN GIRLS. My son 16 even enjoys watching the girls. We both will miss her truely. I have only heard nothing but the best about the golden girls and we truely have lost a great, wise, beautiful woman.

I was in shock, when I heard on the news that she had died, just as I did when I first found out when Estelle Getty died, last summer. The Golden Girls is one of the greatest shows in history and it's heart breaking that the actress's are getting to an age where they're passing away. Her memory will live on, through Dorothy. I feel like I have lost a friend! She was such a wonderful comedian and she has given us so much throughout her life. She has been a great friend and spokeswoman for the animals too. I was shocked & saddened by the news of Bea Arthur's passing, she was truly a great comedienne, an incredible actress & a wonderful friend to animals.
It would seem now that Dorothy & Sophia are together again at last.
I remember her as Maude then later as Dorothy in Golden Girls. I have enjoyed all of her performances in both shows. She will always be remembered for her work with PETA and for the animals she so dearly loved.

She would make you laugh without her saying a word and I will really really miss her.

But now she in a better place with no pain and happy with her family and all of her animals as my mother is.

I never say that someone "died" because that is way to final. I always say that "THEY WENT TO THE OTHERSIDE OF THE CURTAIN" that way all you have to do is lift the curtain at any time a look at them at speak to them in your mind.

With the way the world is today God must have really needed her with him. Who could be a stronger, funnier angel! She is God's Golden Girl now. With all her efforts for His creatures He is just calling her home. We all know she would want to be private about all this and for us to forget her passing and remember her animals. She'd say SHE is fine now but there is still work to be done because there are still animals suffering!

Hi in reading your article about boycotting the support for kfc of which my family has personally been doing for some time now doesn't appear to be working as I've noticed the profits for these stores here in Australia alone are not declining but its probably not going to work anyhow as there is no advertising or word out there anywhere in our country expressing the way that chickens are raised & killed so its not surprising that no one is boycotting kfc. After reading and watching your video on the skinning of live animals I am definately more aware of my overall actions regarding any living animal and after seeing this dispicable treatment of such have 100% more respect for animals than I do humans. If there are any tips that you can give me to pass on to make people sit up & take notice please pass them on even posters etc I don't care what it is as long as it helps to save one animal from being mistreated.

Bea Arthur was a GIVER, so many hours of pleasure for her audiences and so many hours of her life fighting for the benefit of animals. We should all be truly ashamed that we do not fight for compassionate treatment of animals across the whole world like Bea Arthur did. Unfortunately the criminal Chinese bastards that daily rip the skins from living conscious animals without a thought can rest a little bit easier in their stinking beds now that such a wonderful lady has died.

I have been a major fan of The Golden Girls for a long time. Not too long ago, it was on six times a day! To know that those girls were animal advocates made them more of an inspiration to me, being a PETA member. Bea Arthur was a tremendously awsome person. I will miss her, I hope everyone tries to reach the bar she has set for the rest of us to become more responsible people on this planet. She was a true inspiration, and we will never forget her.
