Most kids love animals, but not all kids are aware of the horrors that elephants and other animals in circuses face, so PETA and Ellie Elephant decided to tell local kids what goes on behind the big top. Ellie was a huge hit with children and parents, handing out activity books to show kids why circuses are no fun for animals. The kids were excited to get their hands on the fun workbooks, and the parents appreciated the educational message. Check out these photos of Ellie making friends and spreading the word about why elephants would rather be left at home in nature with their families than endure the chains and whips used by circus trainers.

This is fantastic! Kids should know these facts and know that each time they visit the circus, they are paying for animals (elephants in particular) being abused. They need to know, they must learn.

I believe that most kids are compassionate at heart but have been brainwashed by adults as far as animals are concerned. If kids knew the horrors of slaughterhouses, they'd all be vegetarians, and if they saw the animal abuse in circuses, I know they would refuse to go. My girls are vegetarians, not because I made them go vegetarian but because they saw photos of factory farming and that was enough for them to refuse to support such industries.
I think educating kids on animal issues is the best way to help animals.

That's a very cute elephant. It looks like a giant stuffed animal. I bet the kids really like that. The comic strip is very informative, sweet and sad all at the same time; very moving.
Gosh, I had no idea that they would chain an elephant's trunk to his/her feet. That's outrageous. How very cruel.

Go PETA!
This is an awesome way to make a point to children who want animals to be cared for! The approach isn't scary, but taps into a child's natural empathy and the parents get to learn the truth. Well done!
