Baskin Robbins' Heath Shake
OK, so our love affair with lists is no secret. We admit it. But really, who doesn't enjoy a quick bit of knowledge delivered in a no-frills, straight-to-the-point, no-expectations kind of way?

Our wandering eyes recently happened upon one list that really struck our fancy—or, shall I say, our stomachs. That is, it struck our stomachs with the sickening force of a swinging sledgehammer. Fellow list-lovers over at Men's Health compiled a list of the worst drinks in America, and we are horrified to inform you that sitting heavy in the top spot is Baskin-Robbins' large Heath Bar Shake, which contains a whopping 2,310 calories and 108 grams of fat! Oh yeah, and it contains 66 teaspoons of sugar. Pardon me, I just gagged a bit.

Of course, as with many of the drinks included on the list, the Heath Bar Shake is dairy-heavy, giving sippers an unhealthy dose of calories and the potential for a whole lot more than what's on the menu. You see, in every sip of milk there is the potential to swallow a mouthful of pus, unhealthy saturated fats, and possibly even antibiotics injected into the milked animals.

And one more thing: Cow's milk is intended for nursing calves just like human breast milk is intended for nursing human babies. And you know we have a love affair with breast milk too, right?

i don't see what's wrong with 66 teaspoons of sugar. 66 tablespoons might be too much, but teaspoons are pretty little.

"Slurping up one 32-ounce Heath Shake is the caloric equivalent of eating 12 Krispy Kreme doughnuts, the saturated fat equivalent of scarfing 60 slices of bacon, and will give you the same sugar rush as working your way through 13 Haagen Dazs Vanilla and Almond ice cream bars."

Jamba Juice sells a similar 'drink' that is some kind of peanut butter heart attack thing. Unbelievable calorie count and fat indulgence at a store that sells itself as a healthy alternative. It's hard to believe they sell wheat grass juice shots AND this peanut/fat thing side by side. The other crazy thing is on TV you see marketing for milk products, followed immediately by commercials for decongestant. The corporations first make us sick, then sell us something to hide the symptoms. USA consummers are never going to get it, we are being dupped all the way. After quitting all dairy last February (you remember the downer cows in Calif) I cannot get a taste for soy milk. It's just not working for me at all. Sometimes I use Rice milk but mostly I just leave out any ingredient that would be dairy and that seems to be as good as anything. There's always water! Since the switch to dairy free I am healthier than I have been in twenty years and lost weight that I never thought I could get off.

Augh, that's so sick!
Does anybody actually buy those...?

2,300? Sorry, but that's hilarious. plain and simple.

Haha, gross, Joel.

Posted by: Lianne | January 3, 2009 10:45 AM

Things like this should be outlawed. Like, seriously. :/
You've got to be kidding me. How could a company knowingly serve something so seriously unhealthy (calorie count alone - it's ONE friggin drink!). I call shenanigans on Baskin-Robbins!

Posted by: Blu | January 3, 2009 07:05 PM

Well thats really gross. I wonder whats in Baskin Robins other shakes???

Posted by: Jasmine | January 3, 2009 09:04 PM

have you ever looked at the calorie content in a smoothie or a fruit drink? those are also extremely high in calories AND....SUGAR as well. just sayin. no pus found in there, but still. it's unhealthy, too. but leave it to people to take something earth made and make into something horrible for the body.

Posted by: bbr | January 5, 2009 08:45 AM

Outlawed, Blu? That is a typical kneejerk liberal reaction. People should have the freedom to do stupid things if they wish. By the way, the milk is the healthiest thing in these drinks. I said healthiest, not healthy. If you don't recognize it, don't eat it.

"People should have the freedom to do stupid things if they wish", O Christopher Cochran MD?

Now that's a knee-jerk right-wing conservative reaction, if I ever heard one. Why is it that you tards.. er.. conservatives do not support the same philosophy for heroin, cocaine, speed , crack or even marijuana? This stuff is just as deadly and addictive.

But that that's the problem with all you right-wingers. Your motto is "pejudice before thought, 'cause thinking hurts my little brain".

And good luck with the new "Dr. Billy's Little 31 Flavors of Cardiac Infarction Clinic" there. With all the support from Baskins-Robbins, you can't help but succeed.

Posted by: Robin | January 6, 2009 05:25 PM

Umm, Robin, you can't honestly compare a milkshake to heroin and expect anyone to take you seriously. Doing heroin twice can kill you; to even compare it to drinking a delicious, albeit, unhealthy milkshake is foolishness.

That shake sounds delicious to me, and I am far from unhealthy, overweight or death by calories.
