Rodeo Ditches Electric Prods!

The group SHARK gets a shout-out as big as the wide-open plains for persuading National Western to put an end to the use of the painful shocking device, which is often used on broncos to cause them to bolt from the gate. As you can imagine, frequent exposure to these electric shocks causes the animals considerable physical and mental distress.
The National Western Stock Show has also announced heftier fines for "jerk-downs"—the act of violently jerking a calf backward and roping the calf simultaneously. Competing rodeos have followed suit: Cheyenne Frontier Days and the Greeley Stampede have also banned electric prods. Now, if they'd just replace the broncs with mechanical bulls, we'd be as happy as a hog let loose in the tater patch.

I have to give the National Western Stock Show some credit for "sticking to their guns" and insisting on making these changes
There are many expremist people in the rodeo circuit who don't want ANY change whatsoever, and don't care about animal abuse. They pressure groups like this to oppose any change
But I hope that these rodeo groups understand that the average ticket-buyer does not want this kind of abuse, and that things can be better for the animals

Rodeos will never become humane until they are banned! Same thing for circuses!

Rodeo participants and fans are still scum.

These "big bad cowboys" think they are so tough and hard, well I'd LOVE to take a electric prod to their a** and see how they like it! Or a hard rope around their necks and let them feel the pain of being jerked down and tied all for fun!

small improvement but not enough. The whole thing is hideous.

I dont think any one of you people that have commented have any idea what you are talking about. Trying to get rid of rodeo is like trying to get rid of football. Rodeo is a tradition thats been in America for more than 100 years. I have know rodeo stock that is taking care of better than most people's kids.
