Today is an exciting and historic day for our country! Everyone and his brother has flocked to the nation's capital to catch a glimpse of our new president and first family becoming … well, exactly that. Now, at PETA, we believe that in order to be a strong nation, we need a limitless amount of compassion, great endurance, and excellent health—and the best way to get all that is to go vegetarian. Want to see all the exciting things we're doing for the inauguration today? We've got some fantastic pictures to show you:

Our "Be Fur-Free" bunny, raccoon, and fox were all over the city to remind people about the cruelty of the fur industry. Unfortunately, when big crowds get together in cold weather, there are always a few fur hags being eyesores. Check out these pics of our friends getting out the message:

This whole idea has even sparked a global interest. PETA Asia-Pacific got in on the action, too, when its "Yes We Can" cow showed up at the U.S. consulate in Hong Kong.

Great Work! Brought tears to my eyes. I love the pics with the children.

Posted by: Tammy | January 20, 2009 04:42 PM

How cute they are--and apparently they are completely non threating to small children and commuters!

PS--after watching the ceremonies on tv all day, I was glad to see Aretha did not drape herself in dead animals...

I would love to volunteer for something like that!! How clever!!

Michelle Obama, Jill Biden, Laura Bush, Michelle's mother, all the other high profile women, were not wearing fur! However, Dick Cheney's wife Lynn looked like her coat had fur trim so that wasn't so good but all in all that was just wonderful. In fact, looking through that gigantic crowd, I hardly saw anyone wearing fur! And like someone already said, I was very glad to see fur-hag Aretha Franklin in a cloth coat. Her hat was hideous though! Hopefully fur really is dead or nearly dead!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Franklin was wearing a fur coat, I saw a behind the scenes thing on some show (ET or access Hollywood or one of those things)and she was there with some man, and the guy was holding her coat and it was definitely the dead animal kind - Also, I noticed Barack and just about everyone else was wearing leather gloves, so, I don't really think they should get too much credit for now wearing fur.

Peace.

Great photos!
When I was watching on TV I thought I saw John McCain's wife in a hideous fur coat. Was it real or faux fur?

very nice idea.... Poor animals... I am spreading the word of peta to all the school (teachers, kids ecc.) People are like eating less meat but more veggy.. If The school finds out that the meat is throuwn away then they will say do not get it again because it's just a waste of food noh? So they have more veggy... Cool

Forza PETA

GO VEG!!!! (i am carnivorous, but i will go veg)

Everybody let's support ans expand the word of peta...

thank you, and god blesses those who are always trying to help more the animals and that condems the people that hurt animals

Did anyone else notice the amount of fur and fur trimmed coats that the people were putting on after the Presidential luncheon? I guess we still have a lot of work to do.

Posted by: Angela | January 22, 2009 02:24 PM

Oh really? Michelle Obama used leather gloves? Hmmm, that's a disappointment...

Posted by: danny | January 22, 2009 02:47 PM
