I'm proud to be celebrating one year as a vegetarian today and hope to one day be vegan. Thanks for all the info I needed to get started.

An interesting discussion is starting over on scienceblogs.com/isisthescientist/2009/01/classics_in_physiology_kaos_ne.php

If we keep the discussion rational and make carefully considered arguments, this might be a good place to change some scientific minds!

to lauren- Your solution is to KILL those that harm animals? You think it is ok to end someones life. A life you didn't help create or shape. How is killing someone going to solve anything. You want to end violence and gain compassion for animals by killing people, which is violent in case you didn't know. Grow up and gain some mature brain cells. You don't rid violence by being violent. You can punish people by not killing them. It is so sad that you think killing humans is ok. For some reason you are desensitized to violence when it comes to humans. How sad for you. Your solution to end violence is to use violent tactics. It's one thing to have compassion for animals and to want to stand up for animal rights, but to think it's ok to take a human life, that's pretty pathetic.

Not that this is a justification- but not everyone grows up in a compassionate, 2 parent household. I don't support violence towards animals. But I don't suppoprt your solution to the problem either.
p.s.- what do you think PETA is out there trying to do? sell lemonade? no, they are trying to stop animal cruelty.
