Palin to PETA: Drop the Snowball or We'll Sue!

This morning, PETA's Policy Department received a Scrooge-like phone call from someone purporting to be from Gov. Sarah Palin's office threatening legal action against us if we don't play ball—or, actually, stop playing ball. Why are Ms. Palin's peeps so mad at PETA? Well, if you've played our Holiday Snowball Fight game recently, you may know. The game asks players to pick up a virtual snowball and take aim at 2008's biggest animal foes, from Colonel Sanders to the Trollsen twins to Alaska's own Sarah Palin. But guess what, Sarah? We've checked with our legal team, and they say that it's "protected parody," or "fair game"—so the game stays! After all, we're throwing snowballs, not shoes.
In real life, the moose and other animals Ms. Palin blows to smithereens don't stand a chance. But, hey, our game is virtual and nonviolent. To be honest, I'm not quite sure why Sarah is so mad about the game anyways. Wielding a gun and decked out in a sexy bikini and pageant ribbon, I'd think she'd be quite proud of how PETA's portrayed her.
Though this game is just a bit of harmless payback, Palin's real-life hunting habit is no joke. Palin not only guns down big moose but also supports aerial hunting of wolves—she even proposed putting a bounty of $150 on their heads. Wolves aren't even overpopulated in Alaska. The sole reason for the bounty would be to boost the numbers of moose and elk so that hunters will have more living targets for their blood sport. Pathetic.

P.S. Governor Palin isn't the only fantastic figure in the game, so if you haven't had the chance to play, check it out!

PETA, You should make this game available on the iphone.
Palin deserves more than a snowball. Perhaps a polar bear will get her for all the blood she spilled and for her helicopter sniping

HILARIOUS game!
Posted by: Brandi | December 23, 2008 01:45 PM
horrid.. horrid.. HORRID WOMAN !!!!! hmm.. very bloodthirsty too!!!
Posted by: yf | December 23, 2008 01:53 PM
It seems like this woman can't win. I disagree with her hunting. They featured her in Glamour, one of my fave magazines, and had her sister speak about her. They showed a pic of Palin next to a Moose she had killed, with her daughter. A reader was disgusted. I wouldn't say I was "disgusted" by the pic, but I did think it was unnecessarry to add the photo to the bio. I understand that Palin may have grown up in a society and Alaskan cutlture where hunting is ok. Does that make it right? It's a matter of opinion. I don't care for her hunting ways, but I also understand culture. I just think someone in her position should think more wisely about the things they do.
Posted by: BBR | December 23, 2008 02:15 PM
i am glad that she was put in that game because it gives us an opportunity to express our anger at her horrific 'hobby' wihtout even saying anything to her personally. i dont understand why she is so angry because she is portrayed exactly as she always describes herself: paegant girl with a gun. if she wants PETA (<--luv u guys)to portray her in a more positive way then maybe she should quit her hunting habits!!
Posted by: jonasluvr | December 23, 2008 02:36 PM
Ughh she makes me so mad specially because I love wolves and she allows all this. She is a horrible woman and I hope a pack of wolves kill her.
Posted by: Justin | December 23, 2008 02:37 PM
The more I read about Palin, the less I respect her. Thankfully, the voters were wise enough to not elect her as VP. Her unethical and immoral deeds cannot be ignored. Congrats to PETA for taking this stand. The game is fantastic! Keep up the good work!
Posted by: timeforrealchange | December 23, 2008 02:46 PM
How about a wolf that rips her left arm off?? We'll be the wolf and she has got to run, hehe.
Posted by: Claudia Pomper | December 23, 2008 02:59 PM
She never had me fooled. I have observed that it is possible for someone to respect human life and at the same time disregard human and/or animal suffering. People are complex creatures and experience has taught me to only trust those who respect all forms of life.

Palin is a puppet of criminals, despoilers, thieves, liars, bullies
Posted by: kelly | December 23, 2008 03:15 PM
Relax Palin it's just a game. I thought you liked playing those? One suggestion, to add Bush and Co. in a safari type setting, be sure to build high fences all around so they can't escape!! Let the games begin!!
Posted by: Carla | December 23, 2008 03:28 PM
I played the game but I didnt see Sarah Palin. I really wanted to get her. All I saw was Madonna, Donna Karan (who should be taken off since she now says she won't use rabbit fur anymore) and the Trollson Twins. So where is Sarah? I really wanted to get her the most!
Posted by: Rex's Mom | December 23, 2008 04:07 PM
Rex's Mom,
You have to play the game all the way through. Palin is in the last level.

Poor Palin she is feeling victimized, boohoo. I thought she was suppose to be tough! Hey Sara go and challenge a mother wolf just you and her, no guns!

She is gross! The game is so fun!

"Palin is a puppet of criminals, despoilers, thieves, liars, bullies."
Without a doubt. and she is clearly an uncompassionate monster with no morals.
Posted by: vegancoin | December 23, 2008 04:52 PM
GREAT GAME!! Palin needs to go cry a river somewhere...what about the animals she loves to hunt? HA! Serves her right, we should have come up with this game a long time ago!! :-)
Posted by: Kelly | December 23, 2008 05:29 PM
I thik she downright stupid!
Posted by: Julia | December 23, 2008 05:57 PM
So she can murder innocent animals but cries when cyber snowballs are thrown at her? I thought she was soooo tough!
Posted by: Kelley | December 23, 2008 06:12 PM
I didn't like Palin when she was McCains running mate and I refused to vote for him BECAUSE of her. (don't hit me with snowballs, yes, I'm a registered Republican!) LOL But I voted OBAMA because I'd rather have a democrate in office than a wolf murdering, gun toting, moose monger! Geeze, that woman should be put on trial for all the innocent lives she has taken. Maybe someday the animals will have a say, and I don't want to hear what they say to the likes of her!
Posted by: EatsLikeABunny | December 23, 2008 06:29 PM
.. and just think .. she could have been vice-president of the Unites States... i shutter to think...
Posted by: C.C. | December 23, 2008 07:11 PM
What happened to Sarah Palin? I didn't see her. Was she removed for legal reasons?
Posted by: Ishwari | December 23, 2008 07:27 PM
@ Kelley - No, her dumb ass just thought she could get some more money to fund her sickening aerial hunts. :)
I mean, if all you really have to worry about is some game where people throw stuff at you, then take it like you dish it out! Sounds like someone doesn't like the idea of being on the other side of the scope. I will not comment on the rest of her life, but her hunting habits disgust me.
Posted by: Blu | December 23, 2008 07:53 PM
A game with Palin as the prey running for her life on the snowy ground in Alaska while aerial hunters flying above take pot shots with high powered firearms might be reason to get riled. But a little snowball fight & she's ready to sue? Palin dishes it out but can't take it. But we already knew that most hunters are cowardly scum & have to have the odds stacked 100% in their favor. I say she should really participate in a 'fair hunt' against polar bears, just Palin & a bear in it's environment-- face to face, bringing just what God gave them, themselves. No weapons, terrain vehicles, no airplanes, snow mobiles, no electronic gadgets, Let's see how brave this moose & polar bear hunting destroyer of the environment & wildlife is on a level playing field-- I'd pay to see it.
Posted by: Gina | December 23, 2008 08:35 PM
I hope Alaska throws her out in the next election. I will never forget how floored I was and literally gasp when she said her favorite meal was moose stew. I protested her along with the Polar Bears when she came to Pittsburgh to campaign. She did not show her face. **My sign had a nice pic of Bullwinkle the Moose and said 'Bullwinkle the Moose says Eat me Sarah!'. If you dont post, I understand. She is a disgrace to humans.

I don't usually play video games, but I love PETA's snowball game. I don't have a computer at home, which is perhaps just as well, or I'd be taking up too much valuable time playing it every day. It's great fun and almost addictive. I especially enjoy bopping Sarah Palin and now that she has threatened to sue, I shall enjoy bopping her all the more, knowing that it's getting to her. Who is the genius who designed the game? It would be even better with another level, with a few celebrity chefs for us to aim at.
Vegan wishes,
Sandra

Every time I see a Wolf, on TV or wherever, I can't see how anyone could kill such a beautiful creature. Human beings are a blight on this planet.
Posted by: Terry | December 24, 2008 12:31 PM
I believe in what goes around, comes around. Ms Palin will get the same treatment she has given other animals on this planet... and she won't be able to call her lawyers to sue!

I glad that MSNBC covered Palin's issue with this game!!! I would not have known about it otherwise. How much fun is this? I am going to show this to my granddaughter's (and others) when they arrive for our holiday celebration and we will have a great time.

Hey Sarah...playing games such as these are "just a way of life" for us down here in the "real America"....you know, where there are huge pockets of Americans who think you are nothing but a complete and total joke.
Way to go PETA!!!! Don't back down!!
Posted by: JON JON | December 24, 2008 02:01 PM
gun toting .. gun slinging.. gun shooting.. dross of a woman !!! I can't see how anyone.. male or female can take 'delight' or fun even as 'a hobby' gunning down or shooting at poor wildlife animals.. large or small
frankly I wish this woman would just go and shoot herself in the foot!!

What happened? Did you guys cave and remove Palin from the game? I don't see her anywhere but in the intro...
Posted by: originalgeek | December 24, 2008 04:30 PM
Hers is the last screen of the game. She's so heartless she gets her own screen.
Posted by: Tracy | December 24, 2008 06:05 PM
I think this game is a total waste of everyone's time. Sarah Palin is a hunter. Yes. She pays her licensing fees just like every other hunter. With out these fees there would be no money for wildlife improvment of habitat. In regards to her supposed attorney contacting PETA. If this person was actually a member of her staff they would have identified themselves at the beginning of the phone call, given a number to reach them at, or another employee to contact to verify that this was actually her office. Since none of this happened it is obvious this gentleman was not representing her office. Which leads me to my next point PETA is just looking for a fight here to get more people to believe in their cause. If you want to attack a person for their views ok, but don't expect any mercy when the winds shift and it starts flying back at you.
Posted by: Colorado | December 24, 2008 06:46 PM
Look Ms Palin...
It's better to get a snowball in you face in an animated game. I mean, be honest with yourself, you are not animal-friendly.
Another version may be a bounty put on your body parts. by someone like me. $100.00 per arm, 150.00 for a leg.
Now leave the cute game alone!
Posted by: teri | December 24, 2008 11:52 PM
This game is cute!
Actually well done. Although, it moves pretty fast the further you go. Kids will do great with it. My reflexes have slowed.
You picked a good game-designer

Palin is at level 4.
Don't back down Ingrid! Palin will only humuliate herself (again).
Posted by: StarGrazer | December 25, 2008 10:20 AM
What happened? Did you guys cave and remove Palin from the game? I don't see her anywhere but in the intro..
-------------
You have to get to level 4 to see her.
I have read the e-mail exchange with Bill McAllister and I have to agree that he was rude. BUT, the representative from PETA should have immediately let him know that the person who called refused to be identified. That would have diffused the situation somewhat.
Anyway, the game is a hoot!
Posted by: Kate Henry | December 25, 2008 12:15 PM
I think this game makes light of her horrible, monstrous acts. It also is really weak. If you are doing a game, then logically, to make a point, you should have the game role reverse Palin and others into their victims. Dress her as different animals and have the player get to go "hunting" and have the offender, dressed as their victim, writhe in pain and blood and then show her on the dinner table or in the fur shop, or have the player chop off and exchange her arm for money, or whatever. It would make more sense to have the game do a serious role reversal and not this weak snowball throwing which is offensive to the conveying of the seriousness of what those awful people do. How are you expressing outrage and serious points with throwing snowballs? To me it is watering down the blood they have spilled.
Posted by: stoptorture | December 25, 2008 01:40 PM
How much you wanna bet it was Todd Palin making the telephone threat?
He wouldn't have told McAllister or even Sarah herself, I bet.
Anyway, it's fun having fun firing snowballs at her cartoon. Good game, PETA!
Posted by: Lee Franklin | December 25, 2008 02:17 PM
Bill McAllister's responses to PETA were completely unprofessional. It seems to me, that Sarah employs people without ethics to do her dirty work. Frank Bailey's phone call was very similar to Bill McAllister's emails. I'm embarrased by the Governor and her staff. Shame on all of them for taking the PETA bait and addressing the game. Does the State of Alaska employ someone whose only job it is to surf the web for bad Sarah Palin publicity? If so, then that person has a very demanding job.
Posted by: Arizona Anna | December 25, 2008 02:50 PM
Alright, I may have supported Peta in the past, but this game crosses the line. I'm all for shutting down companies that trap and torture animals for food or profit, but come on. People all over America hunt. Hell, I hunt. Well, not really. I go with my cousins when they do. I can't handle a rifle or shot gun worth anything. The portrayal of Sarah Palin in this light is also demeaning towards women. Honestly, I agree with Bill McAllister. And Peta really should be more specific as to who or whom they are fighting against.
Fight KFC, Fight animal testing, but leave people their hobbies.

Sarah Palin WAS a hunter, back in the days when she wasn't an elected public official (before 1996). She USED to shoot moose and fish for salmon for food and money back when the family had less income (and had more time to monitor their kids' behavior re: vandalism, drugs, drinking, teen sex).
Now it's just a pose, for more NRA-member votes.
She cares nothing about preservation of endangered species, maintaining the ecology of the tundra and not upsetting the balance of nature; she's in favor of development, and more development, and more (that's why she supported that low-life Saxby Chambliss, in hopes he'd back her plans for turning Alaska into a giant Walmart-with-gas-station).
She's a politico, and no more. For her, thinking of the future doesn't involve planning for contingencies as leader of her state, it involves "OK, where is the next conservative speaking engagement for me, so I get more national press exposure?" Mainstream media has glossed over all her failures in public office, and published only the statements SHE has made about what she's done (maybe a quarter of them are true).
She's a reprehensible liar, and I hope PETA's snowball game is only the beginning of the end of Sarah Palin's reputation.
Posted by: ORigin | December 26, 2008 12:12 PM
"Sarah Palin WAS a hunter, back in the days when she wasn't an elected public official (before 1996)"
Wrong. She is often described as a enthusiastic and/or lifelong hunter, who enjoys a mooseburger. Ghastly. and of course the sarah palin fail turkey video, you forget to mention that somehow. It is not wrong or misguided to associate her and her brain-damaged minions with unthinkable and totally sadistic animal cruelty. You paint a rather unfortunate picture of greedy and slackster politicians that are supposed to only represent the despoiling and careless destruction of the environment, and the profit motivated destruction of species, all in the name of mindless development.

Very nice guys! Is there a way we can make Sarah Palin know what we think about her nasty hunting habit?
Posted by: Alex Ariño | December 27, 2008 01:48 PM
I just have to say, I'm glad this was found legal for being a "parady" and one thing that disgusts me more than anything else in the world, is things like arial hunting, or hunters who do so from their vehicle.
Personally I grew up where hunting was common, but you didn't do it for sport, you did it for the food, but when you start killing for sport of fun, thats F*ING DISGUSTING...
I think anyone that kills form a vehicle or helicopter should be shot themselves...
Well thats my two cents...

I don't see McAllister being rude. PETA brings up him dying. He asks if PETA can name a source. They cannot. Is this made up? I don't know, maybe he doesn't either. It seems he is asking for proof and PETA want him to believe them without any. PETA has no credibility anymore because they cater to the radicals.

Unfortunately I'm Canadian and have little ability to effect US change in the US but you can

What she is doing in Alaska they should ship her to Afganastian and let Bin Laden yell a one or the other . She says she is pro life but look how many wolves were killed by her and she is wants to endangred more wildlife.
Posted by: Joan Faszczewski | January 8, 2009 04:39 PM
I have always lived close enough to the civilized world that I have not needed to hunt to survive, I understand many of Alaska's citizens depend on hunting for their meals.... so maybe they need to garden more, but its her wolf massacre that I have a problem with.
If its necessary to control the wolf population so that citizens can eat, these creatures should be euthanized painlessly, tranquilized and then euthanized. No taking more than one shot, no bleeding to death, no suffering, only peaceful death.
Posted by: sc | January 8, 2009 06:16 PM
I think killing ANY living being is wrong. I don't think it is any worse to kill a human than to kill an animal. A life is a life no matter who it belongs to. An animals life belongs to the animal just the same as our lives belong to us and it is just as valuable to them as ours is to us. No one has any right to take any life away. We are all animals and as animals we are all Gods creatures. Animals can even demonstrate awesome superior ways to humans not the other way round, I think Palin proves that!

While personally I would like her to vanish off the planet, I don't think it is to PETA's advantage to have anything (virtual or otherwise) that involves harming another person, even though the snowball is just a game. We are known to have compassion, and there are other ways to deal with a woman like her. PEACE is the way. Just exposing her murdering of animals and insensitivity to them in articles, photos, etc. will be a big enough help. Lets get as many photos of her hunting in as many magazines, newsletters, etc. as possible, because we ARE going to have to deal with her in 2012. Someone needs to be keep track of her every word and deed so that we have the "ammo" or information to expose her for what she is, in 2012.
