Ever thought about how you might make your love of animals live on after you have gone to your grave? Well, now you can! PETA has teamed up with eco-friendly coffin maker The Old Pine Box to bring you what you never knew you always wanted: a PETA coffin!

PETA coffin

PETA coffin

PETA coffin

There are several designs to choose from. One design allows the recently deceased to stake a claim as a "Lifetime PETA Member," while others give the departed the last laugh from a coffin that reads, "Told you I wouldn't be caught dead in fur!" or "Dead meat should be buried—not eaten." Hey, if you've been making waves as an animal rights activist your whole life, why stop there?

And best of all, choosing a PETA coffin doesn't just make a bold statement. Because $75 from each PETA coffin purchase is donated to PETA, a body buried in a PETA coffin can literally go out fighting for animal rights! Going to meet your maker has never been so stylish or so good for animals.

And guess what? They're available right now from the PETA Mall. So check out the designs and post a comment below to let everyone know which coffin you'd be most interested in spending eternity in.

I like it, but I've already bequeathed my mortal coil to science (to help eliminate vivisection), and there might not be too much left over to bury.

Love your quips, and the stylish bright red pine box.

Speaking of mortality/immortality, the new PETA Podcast "Religion and Vegetarianism" is excellent.

I absolutely LOVE it !!

This is the best idea and I'm surprised no one came up with it sooner. Way to go PETA, always on the cutting edge.

I'll be ordering one for myself and my husband so our final & lifeling wishes are carried out.

Posted by: Joan | December 3, 2008 11:04 AM

One problem: Vegans tend to live longer than meat-eaters, and I'm vegan, so I'll have to wait longer to get buried in my PETA coffin. Darn! I absolutely love this. Will be telling my family today which one they'll be putting me in. Hm, I wonder if I could buy one now and keep in the house as storage? Or maybe a nice planter out in the front yard? PETA, every time I think you must be running out of creative juice, you come out with something even better.

Posted by: Myshkin | December 3, 2008 11:42 AM

I'll take two, please. :)

Posted by: Lianne | December 3, 2008 12:06 PM

A much less morbid way to leave this life than most coffins. I like it - most of my loved ones have a sense of humor so they would love the jokes on the box.

Posted by: Maya, C.V.T. | December 3, 2008 12:28 PM

"Everylife is worth celebrating"!!! We all don't know when our time is up to go, soooo I'm ordering one today. I live in Canada so they have to get back to me on price regards to shipping. They are ALL so wonderful!! You guys ARE the BEST!!!!

Posted by: Carla | December 3, 2008 01:13 PM

Really good idea. I like the dead meat should be buried, not eaten one. And it's great how PETA will get money too!
I saw on tv a while ago urns that look like football helmets, tropies, etc. What a foolish idea! I hope a lot of people hear about these PETA coffins, they rock!

Posted by: Aneliese | December 3, 2008 02:34 PM

I thought death was supposed to be serious and 'sombre'? hmm.. a PETA coffin.. will have to think about that one..

Posted by: liz | December 3, 2008 02:45 PM

I plan to be cremated - any thoughts on coming up with a PETA urn? I would definitely buy one!

Posted by: Michele | December 3, 2008 02:53 PM

Well, I think they are great.

But there are certainly more useful things that can be done with my cadaver.

Let those doctors rip me open instead of a monkey ;)

Posted by: Cody | December 3, 2008 02:58 PM

I definitely wanna RIP in PETA Style! Send me one to India! LOL!

Posted by: Niranjan | December 3, 2008 05:15 PM

Ick.

Posted by: Matthias | December 3, 2008 08:08 PM

kool. i like the told u i wouldnt b caught dead in fur! kool... kinda morbid! lol kool

Posted by: simran | December 3, 2008 08:59 PM

Hey all you people saying "I'd rather donate my body to science" are still going to have a funeral, right? Use the coffin for your funeral and THEN let them take your body out of it. Go out with a BANG!

Posted by: Maria | December 4, 2008 08:49 AM

This is amazing...
Im so glad that you guys came up with this way to go

Posted by: Amber | December 4, 2008 09:29 AM

i love the PETA coffins i deff. buy one but i wont think of being dead right now i have lots more things to do till i go in PETAs style!!

Posted by: crystal22o | December 4, 2008 09:45 AM

Now thats Great...

Good for You PETA!

Keep up the good work!

Go Vegan, dont let your body become a graveyard for farm animals...

Posted by: Holly | December 4, 2008 10:13 AM

What are the coffins made out of?

Posted by: Helena | December 4, 2008 10:42 AM

uhm.
yeah, isnt this a little creapy?
i wouldnt want to be buried in a bright blue peta coffin.lol. sorry guys.

Posted by: Kelsey | December 4, 2008 01:55 PM

i actually think this is amazing.
thr i told yo i woulldnt be caught dead in fur is epic!!!
the lifetime peta member one is cute and sweet.
the one thing i dont like is " i saved 500 animals"
but only becuae it should be changed to the actual number of animals the person saved.

Posted by: lina | December 4, 2008 02:00 PM

This is absolutely ridiculous. I'm honestly offended.

Posted by: Unbelievable Cult | December 4, 2008 02:08 PM

God Bless all of those who protect animals! Thanks PeTA!

Posted by: Daniela Esprella | December 4, 2008 02:25 PM

I am being cremated and tossed onto the earth.

Posted by: Wendi Bauman | December 4, 2008 02:32 PM

Wow... This def. caught my eye! Very interesting. I would consider being buried in one of these. Maybe you guys can step it up and make PETA cremation(SP?) vases? I love the bunny logo!

Posted by: Mindy | December 4, 2008 03:10 PM

I really like these!

I looked at the web page, I hope they make them for the pet coffins as well. I only want the best for my little man.

Posted by: Kathryn | December 4, 2008 03:38 PM

I don't know about this :/
it's cute and all, but I'm not really sure it makes a statement. I think I'd rather donate a percentage of my bank account to PETA on my death than spend a bunch of money on a coffin that goes into the ground after about an hour of being viewed. Maybe have a PETA banner at the wake or ask for Veggie starter kits to be passed out along with the funeral programs?

Posted by: Ashley Gormley | December 4, 2008 03:49 PM

Oh my! Leave it to PeTA!

Posted by: Karen | December 4, 2008 03:50 PM

Very nice.

But how about a cremation urn designed with the same theme?

What do you think?

Posted by: J Bogota | December 4, 2008 03:59 PM

PS
An urn provides fewer square feet to promote the message of one's choice, assuming one would wish to use his demise as a promotional opportunity. My plans involve neither an urn nor a coffin.

Posted by: J bogata | December 4, 2008 04:02 PM

What about a PETA urn for those of us who have opted for cremation?

Posted by: Kris Gata | December 4, 2008 04:49 PM

I will continue to be a long-time PETA member and supporter, but turning something as personal and solemn as the loss of loved ones into a cheap commercial plug is in extremely poor taste. It sounds more corporate than non-profit, guys, so please refocus.

Taking up a collection at the funeral would be far more respectful.

Posted by: Timothy White | December 4, 2008 04:53 PM

It's a brilliant idea! Of course it supports and promotes PETA which is great but also it fulfils another purpose. At a funeral people tend to find out things about the deceased that they didn't already know and this makes a big statement about the beliefs of the dead person that many of their bereaved family and friends might not know about them. It will also give all of them food for thought. Well done.

Posted by: Margaret Griffiths | December 4, 2008 04:59 PM

ALMOST makes me reconsider going to science :P

But I think I may help more doing that, to help reduce animal testing, then a coffin...ybut the coffin idea is badass

Posted by: kaylie | December 4, 2008 05:06 PM

REALLY need a PETA urn!!!! Alot of us have opted for cremation

Posted by: Kim | December 4, 2008 05:32 PM

This is a fantastic step in the right direction if you love animals AND want to go green!. But a lot of cemeteries will not take this type of coffin yet, and most still bury the coffins in underground concrete-lined holes. There are more "green" cemeteries popping up in the USA, but we have a long way to go. Before you order one, check with your local undertaker.

Also, for those of you who want to donate your body to science, they will use what they need, but give the rest back to your family for disposal, so you still need to be buried or cremated. We're looking into green burials and would definitely get these coffins once we buy a plot at a green cemetery!!

Posted by: Pam & Ter | December 4, 2008 05:35 PM

i´ve stated to donate every organ and usable tissue of me body. what´s left of it, well, is just organic matter, dispose of it. but if they do wan´ to parade me dead body postmortem, which is strongly unadvised would do it in da wicked vegan coffin!!!

Posted by: pablo | December 4, 2008 05:42 PM

I like these so much please will you tell me how much they cost please. I have another catalogue organic coffins, €300 approx. I think they are made out of sea grass.
Keep up the good work.

Posted by: Sheila | December 4, 2008 05:46 PM

This is a great idea for once tested on humans not animals, but i think your getting a little carried away literaly. i nearly died laughing!

Posted by: Nicola | December 4, 2008 05:49 PM

This is absolutely awesome! Would get one in a heartbeat if I planned to be buried traditionally. But how about an urn for us who want to be cremated?

Posted by: Kat | December 4, 2008 06:00 PM

Yea, thats going a liiiiitle too far. Peta does not own me, and I will not be caught dead in that..haha, get it?

Posted by: mike | December 4, 2008 06:08 PM

wow. his is really a grreat idea. I would be honored to be buried in one of hese coffins. I am trying to go vegan. Pray for me.

Posted by: Empress | December 4, 2008 06:11 PM

LOL, can i pre-order 1 now?

Posted by: Davie | December 4, 2008 06:19 PM

Love it!! Haha.

I would actually really like to get one, except that I want to be cremated when the time comes. Any chance we'll get some PETA erns? That would be so fabulous.
I think this is a great way to insert a little more of the person's personality into the memories :) What a cool idea.

Posted by: Jen | December 4, 2008 06:29 PM

This is perfect.
I have been meaning to pre-pay my Funeral arrangements, as it is most unplesant to leave the burden on one's Grieving Family.
I contacted the merchant, and they can fit the interior with removable shelves, and I can use it for storage in my Home until it comes time for it's final Purpose.
Thank You PETA...!

What about PETA urns, though?

Posted by: Alexandra | December 4, 2008 07:32 PM

Hmm......that's a LITTLE creepy........I mean, animal rights COfFINS? Funny sayings, though...

Posted by: Ellen | December 4, 2008 07:33 PM

absolutely wonderful but will it burn, cos I will be cremated. Like the idea of the urn too. I can't believe people are thinking it's disrespectful. We all have to die, let's go out making a proper statement. My family know what to do with any donations they get at my funeral as no flowers are wanted!
How do we go about this sort of thing in England though??

Posted by: Carol - UK | December 4, 2008 07:33 PM

sorry, just noticed it is made of pine, wouldn't something more eco friendly be better

Posted by: Carol - UK | December 4, 2008 07:35 PM

This is really terrible and horrifying.

PETA, I love you, but you've gone too far.

Posted by: Kat | December 4, 2008 07:35 PM

i love it! someone better order me one of those. what better way to rest than in a PETA coffin.

Posted by: kailey | December 4, 2008 07:54 PM

Actually, I was thinking about following Ingrid's footsteps

Have my body brbecued and invite the meat eaters for the occsaion,

But these coffins look so cool I might change my mind and go with this coffin thing then.

Posted by: Syed Rizvi | December 4, 2008 08:05 PM

:) ah, so we can rest in peace knowing we have, a coffin like these ones. ^_^

Posted by: DigiGrade Wolf | December 4, 2008 08:21 PM

When my companion animls die I get them creaminated and have their ashes delivered to me in small wooden boxes.

How about boxes with PeTA designs, like the ones on these coffins?

Something to think about.

Posted by: Syed Rizvi | December 4, 2008 08:27 PM

Please remember guys those who are "die hard animals rights activists" , pun intended, are ready to let all the people who care enough about them to go to there funeral see what they truly believe in. This is a inventive way to change the way others remember you, and hopefully make a change for others that morn your death.

Thank you peta for your help with cuddly fur balls. So remember you can choose a coffin if you want to the only reason anyone should be offended is if they are out in this coffin with out free will. Which is what peta is protecting" free will". To the person that said they were offended no one is forcing you to have this as your coffin!!

Instead I hope people are highly motivated to make a difference and are able to see the creativity it takes sometimes to make a difference.

I always planned to be cremated and scattered, never thought of donating my body to science to help eliminate vivisection. Thanks for planting the seed, Mr. Quinoa. I love the coffins, though, and would use one if I was going to be buried.

Posted by: Kristin | December 4, 2008 09:40 PM

While I understand someone thinking this is an advertisement ploy, I think it's a great idea for the simple fact that if 2 or 3 people don't know about PETA, they sure will when they see this! Keep up the good work PETA! And do let us know about urns as I have not decided exactly what I want done with my earthy remains!

Posted by: Gina Stefanske | December 4, 2008 10:20 PM

Kris Gata - you have said to a "T" exactly how I am feeling on this subject. If you don't mind, I would like to post your answer again ,as it says better than i ever could and no one should not overlook this.

Kris Gata Wrote:I will continue to be a long-time PETA member and supporter, but turning something as personal and solemn as the loss of loved ones into a cheap commercial plug is in extremely poor taste. It sounds more corporate than non-profit, guys, so please refocus.

- Thank you Kris for your great words, I couldnt of said it any better.

- I would like to add that the death of a beloved sibling, friend or spouse is (without bringing religion into this)a very sanctified area meaning that it outside of traditional mortuary services, the final resting place of a loved one should never be sacrficed or compromised for the opprotunity to gain profits. If its any consoltation I am non-religious hindu and a strict vegan but this is very improper and crude. one can go to far with anything such as green advocacy. this is a just example.

Posted by: kait | December 4, 2008 10:28 PM

Creepy. But cool...

Posted by: Desstia | December 4, 2008 11:33 PM

I'm a vegan now and i've been vegetarian for most of my life, but for some reason this bothers me. I'm all for promoting veganism and animal rights and i do almost daily, but this is going too far. Turning your death or someone you loves into advertising and promotion is just not right. Death is serious and it seems like it would be making a joke out of it. I just do not agree with this

Posted by: Tabitha | December 4, 2008 11:37 PM

I'm a strong animal rights activist but this is a mockery of human life. As if we don't have enough advertisements in our lives from the radio, tv, buses, billboards, subliminal messages, computers and god knows what else we're going to take it to the grave? No matter what cause it happens to be for, putting ads on coffins is just tactless.

Posted by: Crystal | December 5, 2008 12:07 AM

The coffins are awesome, but for those of us who take a holistic stance for the environment, not only (but most importantly) for animals, why not make a PETA urn? Cremation is far, far less destrucitve to the planet, while still providing a kick ass resting place.

Posted by: Allison Riley | December 5, 2008 12:54 AM

I've always been a supporter of PETA, but I think this is a tad disrespectful and certainly fodder for all those who would oppose PETA and are already bemused and critical of their activities.

PETA would do well to bury this idea before it bites them back!

Posted by: Danielle Todd | December 5, 2008 06:07 AM

Honestly, I think you guys took it a little too far! This is a little offensive!

Posted by: Melissa | December 5, 2008 06:52 AM

When I die, I'm going to make an 'ash' of myself by being cremated, so I'll need a PETA urn. And for the cremains of our departed pets, how about some PETA pet urns as well?

Posted by: Rick Thompson | December 5, 2008 08:11 AM

Oh my God!!

Love it! Love it! Love it!
If I were to die today I know the legacy I want to leave behind is 'an animal lover, and devoted peta supporter... what better way to do it than this? Now all those who love me can see what the most important thing in the world is to me, encouraging them to care too... Helping Peta from beyond the grave.... what can I say but ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!!!! Love you guys!

Posted by: Kim | December 5, 2008 08:12 AM

The use of pine is not eco-friendly at all and is unacceptable. In Sweden, where I lived for 27 years, pine is grown in monoculture forests that are just plantations, with a great scarcity of insect and animal life. Clear-cutting as a means of logging is a normal practice and is not good for bio-diversity. There is also the question of the energy consumed in transporting pine logs over large distances and then processing them - all this to make an item that will be burned or buried. Non-wood materials including recycled cardboard, papier-mache or Kenaf (a fibrous, very fast-growing plant:15 feet in 5 months) are all much better alternatives.

Posted by: Barry Appleby | December 5, 2008 08:22 AM

Since my plans are for cremation I hope you will eventually consider making urnes with the same messages...

Posted by: Jadey Alex | December 5, 2008 09:03 AM

I'm not so sure about this idea!! , I think it's kind of frivolous and of poor taste...

Posted by: Patricia | December 5, 2008 09:28 AM

don't like it.

Posted by: Helen Jones | December 5, 2008 09:32 AM

DARN!!! I have to wait like over 50 years to use it
:( BoooooooHoooooo! :'(

Posted by: Bubblegumm<3 | December 5, 2008 09:42 AM

lol..when i first saw this i thought they were for our companions. i have a cat who is getting up there in age and thought this would be great for him. i now realize they are for us lol..awsome, i love it you rock peta! by the way, any chance of making little ones in the future? as a child i can think of a couple of hampsters that would have been deserving of these rather than a shoe box!

Posted by: stacey | December 5, 2008 09:52 AM

I think a couple of people need to...I almost said "get a life"...get some perspective. I buried my dad 2 years ago, and discovered what I thought of as a world of tackiness. The ugliest coffin I saw was completely wrapped in Raphael's Angels, but there are also Harley-Davidson caskets, hunting-scene caskets (bleah!), trucker caskets, even a "Return to Sender" casket. So, is that last one tacky and disrespectful, or is it a final statement of faith? When people buy these monstrosities they say "It's just what s/he would have wanted!" There's no disputing tastes. I'm more curious how many of these will end up at the funeral home and how many will be carried at protests or turned into funky furniture--coffins make decent coffee tables and CD/DVD bookcases, take it from an old goth.

Posted by: Rebecca | December 5, 2008 09:54 AM

Good idea, but it would be even better to take it one step further, and instead of pine use papiermache, or recycled cardboard, or use fibres from sources other than trees, e.g. Kenaf (made from a fibrous plant that grows 15 feet in just 5 months; grown commercially in the U.S.A.). I live in the U.K. where pine is very expensive (as is all timber, even very inferior kinds) because we have to import virtually all timber as we do not have any large forests left. I feel it is not defensible to use timber for such an ephemeral item as a coffin, in a world with scarce resources. For getting on for ten years now, it has been possible to buy "burial pods" of papiermache (a bit like a sturdy egg carton, except in the shape of a mummy's cask ) made from recycled paper, and also flatpack cardboard coffins (again made from recycled paper). These can be ordered in different colours (or left plain) and/or decorated in a manner of the customer's choosing. Why not have special PETA ones - both varieties?
Regards,
Anna

I LOVE THEM!!!! Keep it up PETA.

Cindy

Posted by: Cindy Perri | December 5, 2008 11:21 AM

I personally don't believe in burials in the tradidional ways. Even when humans die they take space on cementaries, all that land where other creatures and wildlife belong. I rather be buried in a shallow grave on a biodegradable cofin like recycled cardboard or just being wrapped with organic cotton sheets. Also people, Mortuaries fill your dead bodies with carcinogenic chemicals to preserv the carcass, now how irrational and disgusting is that? It contaminates the ground and nature. No thanks. I would like a Peta cofin if it was made out of recycled cardboard for fast dicompossition and leave no trace of being there in a short period so that it will not contaminate the earth.

Posted by: Alfredo Kuba | December 5, 2008 11:24 AM

I like the idea. However, I would now opt for a biodegradable cardboard coffin. Will PETA or another animal advocacy group consider this?

Posted by: Batya Bauman | December 5, 2008 11:30 AM

If possible, I would also opt for an urn please. I love PETA and have the PETA logo tatooed on my arm, thinking that I'd take PETA to my grave! So now, a coffin or an urn would be so complete for my PETA-the-Great!

Posted by: Claudine Erlandson | December 5, 2008 11:36 AM

What a great idea!! I would definitely buy one however I'm being cremated after my organs are donated. But from my understanding you still have to be in a casket to be cremated...right?? What a waste that is. If that is the case I'm going to let my family know that I want one of those caskets and they can take a picture of me in it before I become ashes. Then PETA and I (plus my pets who are cremated) are going to be spread over Vermont!! I think this tells the world how you truly feel about your love for animals. I noticed some people made negative comments as to how they looked. Well, for one thing, the casket is going to be buried so who is going to see it after your funeral and YOU won't be able to see it anyway...because you will be dead!!! So who cares what it looks like. I could never understand why people spend thousands of dollars on something that is going to be buried. Keep up the good work PETA. I'm behind you all the way!!!!

Posted by: Yvonne Clark | December 5, 2008 12:03 PM

This is the best idea ever....
all humans should be cremated and placed in this urns ,so profits can be dedicated to animal rights and conservation of their habitat. buriel services get richer and richer selling stupid ceremonies , fancy cofens,etc...

Posted by: lui lacoter | December 5, 2008 12:04 PM

For those of you who don't like them....don't get buried in one and leave those of us who might like to continue speaking up for animals from beyond alone. It's not rocket surgery!

Posted by: Elphaba | December 5, 2008 12:08 PM

How about this for a coffin slogan "If you guys eat meat at the wake, I'm gettin up and walking out of here!"

Posted by: dumbotron | December 5, 2008 12:11 PM

ummm, i think this is taking it a little too far. just cremate yourself!

Posted by: Wha? | December 5, 2008 12:14 PM

There used to be a community in India or that part of the world (some form of Zoroasrian , I beleive)
They used to take their dead on top of some hills or mountain and leave it there for the birds and other wild animls to eat.

This can still be posible with this coffin, but the lid has to be removed first. How about making some coffins without lids. It will be less expensive that way

Posted by: Tucker | December 5, 2008 02:32 PM

I think this is outstanding! I plan on donating my body for organ transplants (if I die young) or for science. Everything except for my head (they can take the brain and eyes though). I was planning on being cremated in a hat box, but the "wouldn't be caught dead in fur" coffin is AWESOME!

Posted by: Lizzie | December 5, 2008 02:37 PM

Good idea. I can make a huge statement, even after I'm gone.

Posted by: Danielle | December 5, 2008 03:35 PM

I think a little PETA logo on the side of my coffin would suffice.. ie. as affirmation of my die hard and lifetime belief even unto death that animals deserve humane treatment in their existence.. as much as humans expect to themselves period.. and when I go up to heaven I hope I will see not only humans but also animals of all variations.. as they inhabited planet earth as much the same as humans do/did..

Posted by: liza | December 5, 2008 04:08 PM

Death is a part of life, and I think it's GREAT not to be too somber. Caskets like these are a final reminder of our priorities. I must say that having memorial donations go to PETA would be wonderful, along with remembering PETA in our wills. I learned the hard way, when a friend died recently, that it is MUCH BETTER TAX-WISE to leave IRAs to our favorite non-profits instead of leaving the IRA proceeds to PEOPLE who are going to be taxed heavily. I love the PETA caskets, and am waiting to see the urns!!!! Keep up the great work!!!

Posted by: Jackie Goodman | December 5, 2008 04:45 PM

I don't really like this. I mean, the "I told you I wouldn't be caught dead in fur" thing may seem funny now, but I can't imagine that most people attending the funeral would think so.
It's good that they're eco-friendly though! :/

This is great, I always thought I would't have a funeral but if everyone was staring at this for an hour it would be worth it! Maybe just one person would decide to be a non meat eater, that would make my life mean something!

Posted by: June Black | December 5, 2008 08:07 PM

I think they would be nice for pet coffins

Posted by: Rochelle Paterson | December 5, 2008 08:38 PM

Cremation creates loads of grean house gasses!! The greenest way to be buried is in a cardboard box alonside a tree, I don't know what these are made out of but looks good. I would prefer one with with the writing a bit more low key though but still noticeable as not all animal activists are all out there.

Posted by: Suzie | December 5, 2008 10:43 PM

I think is a great idea, but my wish is to be buried in an organic cotton dress (100% biodegradable) with no coffin (no trees cut down for me please).
Regarding being cremated, I had thought about it but the sulfur acid released along with other pollutant chemicals made me discard this idea.
There is also a company that if you like to be cremated they build a small "stone" with your ashes and bury it in the deep ocean, which will help create a coral settlement. They were making this in FL. Check that out too!
Thank you PETA for your amazing job!

I really like this, especially the one with "I saved 500 animals".
the problem is that i don't know how many animals I've saved all my life. I start countening........(i don't know if my english is right, excuse me...)

I love it but i wanna be put into the earth in a more gothic style

Posted by: Ami | December 6, 2008 04:27 PM

Great coffin. Can't wait to get one! Of course, I have to first....

Posted by: Brian | December 6, 2008 11:53 PM

My darling little Nicole, my feline companion for 14 and a half years, died early this morning. Her frail little body is now lying beside her brother, Micalen, deep in the rich soil of our garden. Were it legal, I'd be buried with them, in the same fashion, when my time comes, and I'd be proud to have Peta's ensignia on our grave.

Posted by: lynda downie | December 7, 2008 10:10 PM

This is the most ridiculous thing ever. It's going to be in the ground for eternity, and I would hope those who attend my funeral would have known me well enough while I was alive to know that I was vegan. Buy a hoodie.

Posted by: K | December 7, 2008 11:34 PM

Love the idea! But I live in England and couldn't afford the shipping cost and the red-tape and the customs duty etc... My Government are mean and stingy and milk us for every penny (as well as the fact that they are happy to make bears into hats)! Bring them over the pond! If I could get one I wouldn't know which one to pick.

Posted by: I.J. | December 8, 2008 07:15 AM

What a great idea!

In my perfect world I'd go out Viking style, at sea, on a raft, with a flaming arrow in me. Will you make one that floats? Just kidding.

I will be cremated and I would be honored to travel in a Peta urn (hint, hint).

Posted by: Pam | December 8, 2008 10:48 AM

love the 'i told you i wouldn't be caught dead in fur' one

Posted by: shelby | December 8, 2008 05:54 PM

You can "bury" your cremated remains in the PETA coffin if u wanna. no problem.

Posted by: N. Nathan | December 9, 2008 06:42 AM

I want to leave in PETA style as well, but I wish to be cremated, and not planning to bury my cremated remains either. Any ideas for PETA urns? They are also easier to ship to other countries as well, for the coffins are not accessible to all of us living outside the US either.

Posted by: valery | December 9, 2008 08:10 AM

I am a peta fan, but this to me is just a little extreme. I personnlly wouldn't want to be put in a bright blue, or for that matter, a jet blck coffin with a last message from me to my familly saying, "Told you I would never be caught dead in fur", (a little weird conidering the situation).
I also agree with some of the comments left earlier on: this is just like turnig something personnal into publicity. I respect that fact that people love this idea and would consider it for themselves, but I think it's just a little weird.

Posted by: Camille | December 9, 2008 10:50 AM

Interesting, I will take one.

Posted by: Jamie | December 9, 2008 11:53 AM

Why are these coffins made of wood?
You can use all kinds of environment frienly materials like cardboard or starch flour or a shroud. A lot of animals are living in or are depending on trees.

Dear lynda Downie,
I am so very sorry for your great loss.

Truly
Holly

Love it! Can you make some coffins for animals, like cats, dogs and hamsters?

Posted by: Lucas | December 9, 2008 05:00 PM

to my cats in heaven:Snowy,Baby my little one, and my kitten brownie

Iwish i had buried you in this
P.S. I LOVE YOU

Posted by: Dinora | December 9, 2008 06:11 PM

Ms Downie - I too, feel the same way as you. I am looking for a PeTA pet coffin...

Most sincere,

JOY!

Posted by: Joy | December 9, 2008 06:54 PM

Thank you with all my heart, Holly. That means more to me than anything in the world right now. She was my baby, my innocent little girl. Again, thank you so much, Holly.

Posted by: lynda downie | December 9, 2008 09:26 PM

that is a great idea.
however, i will be cremated, maybe you guys want to come with an idea for a PETA urn. Then i might be interested.
good riddance...

I really want one of these! what better way to leave earth but with a statement! LOVE IT! they probably wont be around anymore by the time I kick the bucket but hey who knows!!!

Posted by: anne-marie | December 10, 2008 01:27 PM

Thank you and all the very best, Joy!

Posted by: lynda downie | December 10, 2008 10:36 PM

These are amazing and what a great idea! One suggestion: you should have some urns to choose from, too, for those of us that plan on being cremated!

Posted by: Amanda Sinor | December 11, 2008 06:51 AM

Great idea! To those who find it offensive, what offends you? If you don't want to be buried in a Peta coffin, don't. Not one's forcing you into it.

Posted by: pam | December 11, 2008 11:31 PM

This is hilarious, I love it.
I'm already thinking about who I can stick in one of those boxes! Ha Ha.
I'm going to be cremated or I'd definetly want the PETA box!

Posted by: Laura | December 12, 2008 09:46 PM

OMG thts ausom makes me feel good about my emo death ness lol

Posted by: SARAH!!!!! | December 13, 2008 09:19 AM

Oh! I love this one. Is there an agent in Canada who would be in a position to supply one at short notice?
Just another thought. Throughout the ages man has consumed most of the animals from the face of the earth, that I think I should pay back at least on death. That is, those carnivorous animals, or sharks should consume my vegan body on death. Of course before that the research students at the University would have taken all valuables from my body.

Posted by: Nagaratnam Sivarama | December 13, 2008 03:28 PM

cremation is the worst, the idea of dousing human bodies in fuel, burning flesh, irreversible chemical reaction...not that death is reversible but being buried and decomposing and nourishing life and soil as your carbon atoms are released seems more natural and doesn't give me the heeby-jeebies as much.

Posted by: eve | December 14, 2008 01:00 AM

Well, as I am planning to return as a zombie, doing my best to relieve the Earth's ecology of the massive overload of humanity, I doubt I will be needing one of these.

Posted by: ZS | December 14, 2008 01:52 AM

Like some of these people have said, it's a totally awesome idea! I love them! They're awesome! I would love to put my loved ones in them. Even so, what are they made of? They look like cardboard. They look kind of cheap. As for ME, I want to donate my own body to science, or in fact, have it EATEN! Then, less animals would have to be eaten, tortured, killed. One long, martyrous life to save hundreds. They say that one vegetarian saves 90 animals a year.

Posted by: Kendra | December 14, 2008 03:41 AM

how about Peta coffins for beloved pets too?

Posted by: BJ | December 14, 2008 01:50 PM

Love the idea of urns, too!

Posted by: Christine | December 14, 2008 01:58 PM

coffins made of pine is eco friendly??? we have to take care of animals but we have to save as much trees as possible. we need them too and without them animals or us can't breath. sorry, just not a big fan of coffins.

Posted by: lani | December 15, 2008 10:53 PM

Those who are calling this a "commercial" ploy and "for profit" need to be reminded that PETA is a charity, NOT-FOR-PROFIT...and in fact all of PETA's "advertizing" is to help educate humans (the living ones) about the cruelty inflicted on non-humans, so that this cruelty can stop.
NIKE's advertizing is to sell more shoes, McDonald's more burgers and SUNOCO more oil, they don,t give a fig about anything else but their own profits.
Charities work for a cause, and whether that cause is animal rights, environmentalism or peace, it is still a CAUSE.
Comparing a charity's outreach and education to a COMPANY's commercial marketing campaign is the real blasphemy here.
I know that we live in an overly marketed and commercialized society, but any message is not AUTOMATICALLY commercial: These funerals will have ceremonies in places of worship, and in these places an appointed religious person will spread a message: is that commercialism?

NO it is not. It is spreading a message for reasons OTHER than profit: to help us become better human beings, improve the world in which we live, to spread compassion, hope, and is that not also what PETA does? edcucate, enlighten and bring hope?
Religions spread faith, and charities spread hope for a better world. There is NO commoercialism there.

Now I know atheists will want to point out that religion is all about profit, well some may be, but the core message is not, even if it has been distorted.

And PETA is NOT about profit, all the money goes to help the animals and educate humans, so that the world will be a better place.

We speak for those who cannot speak for themselves, so this allows us to KEEP ON speaking even after we can speak no more. :-) it is wonderful! PETA ROCKS! :-)

I love this idea so much!
Genius(:

Posted by: Kaycie | December 16, 2008 07:18 AM

I thought you were advertising coffins for pets not people.

Posted by: denise | December 16, 2008 07:16 PM

rocket surgery lol

Posted by: mal | December 17, 2008 05:36 AM

This is one of the dumbest things that I've ever scene. People will see this coffin for about 30 seconds until its buried in the earth never to be scene again. I'm all for the idea of an eco-friendly coffin, but graphics? That's just idiotic.

Posted by: Dean | December 21, 2008 08:11 PM

I love it! I don't care if people only see for 30 minutes,, because for those thirty minutes, even tho I'm dead I,'m sending a message. My family has a sense of humor and they will find it hilarious. Not to worry about taking up precious land - after the "viewing" I'll be cremated.
