Right about now, we bet Vice President-elect Joe Biden is kicking himself for his decision to buy a purebred dog from a breeder, rather than adopt from a shelter.

The Philadelphia Department of Agriculture has handed Wolf Den kennel—the Chester County kennel where Biden purchased his puppy—citations for various violations. The violations included failure to produce complete rabies vaccinations records, which are required for dogs who are more than 3 months old.

Authorities also detected a strong ammonia smell in the building where the dogs are housed and found structural dangers such as broken wires and piping, which could potentially start a fire or fatally injure the animals.

Geesh, not to state the obvious but, well, we did tell him so in this letter, which PETA President Ingrid Newkirk sent to Vice President-elect Biden and his wife urging them to save a life and adopt a dog from an animal shelter.

As disheartening as it was to see one of this country's future leaders give into the lies of profiteering puppy breeders, we do still have high hopes that President-elect Obama will adopt a homeless mutt from an animal shelter for his girls. Just like he said back in November, "[a] lot of shelter dogs are mutts like me."

Unfortunately, it's pretty safe to assume that the breeder who sold the Bidens their dog conveniently forgot to mention that conditions for dogs in puppy mills stink. Puppies are housed in tiny, filthy cages and forced to stand in their own waste, which might be cleaned out if the dogs are lucky.

Check out the horrid conditions at puppy mills for yourself in a video narrated by Charlize Theron:

I have a very strong urge to say "OWNED." To the breeder, and to the Bidens. He should have been smart and gone to a shelter.

Biden, you dork!

Biden's breeder was also cited for failing to report the number of dogs sold

Know what that means? NOT PAYING TAXES

Joe Biden, how did you let yourself get tricked by a puppy mill breeder?

This is yet another reason that people should NEVER buy from breeders!! hopefully people will start getting the message and put breeders out of business for good!

The same week Biden bought his puppy my local shelter was holding two very wonderful young german shepard dogs. Too bad he didn't pick one of them.

Joe--for someone who is probably pretty smart, you sure did screw up.

Thank you PETA for this update. NOW, more than ever, ADOPT FROM A SHELTER!

I was so disappointed that Biden went to a breeder for their dog...

I hope he is severely embarrassed and has learned about puppy mills and breeders.

Tsk tsk Joe Biden.

HAHAHA. What goes around comes around. I can't believe those poor dogs in that kennel are treated like that though... I mean, I know enough to believe it's possible but it's heart-breaking. By the way... I'm part of an organization called Dog Scouts. It's basically a group that helps the human/canine bond and we take them on outings and such... well, they wrote an article sayig that they want Obama to buy a poodle! I was so pissed I wrote them a nasty letter.

Now he should adopt another senior dog from a shelter!

I continue to be disappointed in the many so called intellectuals who remain uneducated on animal issues. What does it take to save these lives from the genocide that goes on daily in the United States shelters?

I can't even express my disgust!

Has he not been listening to the news lately? Has he paid no attention to all the publicity that President elect Obama has been receiving in regard to getting a shelter or rescue dog? Its scares me into thinking that if this is how he is on this subject he will not be paying attention on more critical issues to do with the country. He has not listened to the public at all!
yes, it is his choice to buy from a breeder but to buy from one with so many violations means he didn't do his home work, which means I can't believe he will do his homework about anything else!

I find it hard to believe that everyone is dumping on Biden, yet praising Oprah. She has breeder dogs and continues to eat meat. How can Peta name her person of the year? This seems to occur a lot. Stars come out against fur, breeding, and horse-drawn carriages, but they still shove dead animals in their mouths. And Peta praises them. How can the "stars" be so hypocritical? How can Peta be so hypocritical? I do not accept the "Well, at least they are bringing attention to the problems" argument. That is bupkis.

I am very proud to have adopted both of my dogs. I didn't get them from a shelter or a breeder. They are both dogs that needed homes - great dogs. Kind and friendly. Best friends.
