Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals
Just in time for Thanksgiving and the release of the latest installment in Majesco's popular video game series Cooking Mama, PETA has launched a parody of the game called Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals, the Unauthorized PETA Edition.

If you're wondering why we're picking on poor Mama, it's probably because you've never played the original games. They are so heavy on dishes made from dead animals that the only things missing are the blood and the slaughterhouse. So in the name of accuracy and honesty, PETA decided to introduce a little horror into Mama's kitchen!

In the original Nintendo Wii and DS versions, players score points for assembling a meal (yup, it's that simple). That also applies in PETA's parody, but with this Thanksgiving dinner, players also must go through the motions of plucking the turkey's feathers, pulling out the bird's intestines, and cutting off the animal's head (we like to paint the full picture of what goes into a "meal"). We also added this really disgusting mini-game—no, seriously, this should really gross you out—where you have to stick food up a turkey's butt. It's amazing the things we can come up with!

And all the while, a demonic, cleaver-wielding Mama takes delight in the agony. But the good news is that if you beat the game you might be able to give Mama a change of heart and replace her bloodlust with a craving for tofu-turkey. Give it a shot if you think you have what it takes!

In addition to entertaining and educating (some people like to say "edutaining," but I just think that's lame) with the new Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals game, we're also encouraging players to contact Majesco to ask for a Cooking Mama game with all vegetarian recipes. We've already got the good news that Mama's next outing after Cooking Mama: World Kitchen will be a gardening game titled Gardening Mama (how did they come up with that title?!), but we want Mama to take her newly found love of veggies back to the kitchen too.

Oh, and I think I forgot to mention that this game is the best thing ever. So play it now, or else ….

Nothing like a little graphic violence for the holidays. Makes me so look forward to the next eight weeks. You should make this game available on peta kids. Kids need to get used to this message at a young age so they go off meat as early as possible.

This is amazing, I love it.

I really love the last level, with the tofu. Great game PETA!

Wow. This game is so bloody. I don't like this game the same reason I don't like the original Your mama kills animals; its propaganda.

That was good, really well done flash animation. Very cute. We had alot of fun around the office with it. Good job. :D

Um, I'm sorry, but I really dislike this game. It's so freaking disgusting. Wouldn't it make more sense to show Mama cooking up a delicious vegan meal...?

I agree with Canaduck. You want people to contact Majesco asking for a Cooking Mama game with all vegetarian recipes, yet you had a chance to do a game like that and decided to make it a bloodbath of an experience instead.

I do want to note... I've checked through the first two Cooking Mama games, and 1/3 to 1/2 of the recipes did not involve dead animals. For example, there are lots of desserts!

I think this is a pretty high ratio given that only 3.2% or so of Americans follow a vegetarian-based diet. I understand that we'd like to push for less use of animals in a game, but given that so many other games are ridiculously violent (there are many games where you can, for example, kill dogs for the heck of it), it's strange that Cooking Mama-- which should be hailed for not being violent, and at least eating its kill-- is the one that gets picked on.

Definitely give Majesco kudos for pushing forward with forward thinking games beyond the typical shoot-em-up. I understand the protest and the parody, but to take action against Majesco when so many other game companies don't even attempt peaceful games? Strange.

How about a NUDE calendar featuring the boys of PETA for the holidays????

Posted by: Kay | November 17, 2008 10:42 PM

Canaduck, so what you mean to say is you're so bad at this game that you couldn't get to the end?

Posted by: Rollo | November 18, 2008 12:07 AM

What's the difference between this game and Grand Theft Auto (or whatever it's called)? PETA is trying to educate. So why would someone be that offended over PETA making a game that shows what animals go through just to become someone's meal. It's better than making kids think it's ok to sell drugs and that drive by shootings are the way to go about solving your problems. Get over it people. If you don't like- don't play it.

I love the meal at the end it was fun!!More people need to watch this video to raise awareness about how disgusting meat is!

I loved it(until she sold out and started cooking that tofu junk), I think I'm getting good at it too. I'm gonna mail PeTA and ask if you can add online multilayer and a leaders board!! HOW's WITH ME!!!!

This has got to be the most annoying kid ever! I suggest everyone votes for his little "video" (giving it 1-star, of course!), as he seems to be a celebrity among flesh-eating-video-game-geeks.

I don't get it.This video here is an amusing educational type video game-not that killing animals is fun but you get what I'm saying-while other videos are really bad and poor PETA is the one who gets criticized by some.I don't get it.BTW,Mama did cook up a vegan dish also.

PETA,you did a great job!Pleae put this on Peta2.com for kids to play it.My 8 year old had fun and understood the concept. So to those not happy with this game...ease up a bi:)Thanks!

Posted by: patycakes | November 23, 2008 11:42 AM

Whoops! That was supposed to read-ease up a bit-not bi.Have a nice day!

Posted by: patycakes | November 23, 2008 11:44 AM

Get humans to stop killing humans (maybe a good start would be getting them to eat what they kill) and I'll take a call for mercy to the furred and feathered seriously. Humanity isn't terribly civilized yet; so long as I live in Rome, I shall eat as do the Romans.

Posted by: Deadacc | November 24, 2008 09:37 PM

i really enjoyed the first three levels. the last level wasn't very fun though

Posted by: Anonymous | November 24, 2008 10:42 PM

Rollo. You say that if you don't like this game, then don't play it. Why don't you follow your own advice and say, "if you don't like meat, just don't eat it". As you seem to imply, no need to bother others; hypocrite.

last comment was meant for bbr, not rollo.

Reminds me of growing up. A bit of hands on with butchery of home grown animals helps develop a respect for what you've got.

Mass-produced? Whether it's soy beans or turkeys, I'd rather pick 'em up from my neighbor rather than have it trucked across the continent.

@Jen: "there are many games where you can, for example, kill dogs for the heck of it"? Name one.

poor mama.. :-(

Posted by: strawberry | December 13, 2008 07:58 AM

I think this is actually interesting, because it shows what really goes into the big turkey at Thanksgiving, and I don't mean just the stuffing. I can't play it right now, though. This computer is really old. I'll play it when I get the chance, though ^_^

With <3,

Kristi

Seeing this has made me want to stop eating innocent animals, but I'm only 15 and my parents demand I eat chicken..I got some Tofu from the supermarket, but they just threw it away and didn't give me a chance to try it...
