It just puts me in such a deep funk to see photos of the cruelty then read this piece of infectious human waste is still a manager & is allowed to come in contact with any animals much less be in charge of them.

Where is justice, and when will we get fed up enough to actually do something of significance to make a difference? If anything, there are more slaughter plants now than ever, so where do we go from here?

this is so sad. i have a pet pig and pigs are very intelligent animals and good pets. my missy , wow, i couldn't imagine this happening to her. there should be rights and proper care of the food u eat if u eat meat. god will some how get even and those that eat abused meat will probably get sick from some kind of illness and die. please stop the torture and care for ur product if u are going to eat it. have respect and give thanks, dont be soooo abusive or allow this kind of inhumane treatment.

In response to Josephine, the more I see violence around the world and throughout history, the less I think it is the human race, and the more I think it is primarily the male sex. It needs to be said. Jails are filled with men, wars are perpetrated by men, and institutional violence by men towards women exists in many parts of the world. Science agrees with me - that due to our different biology and brain structure, most women have more empathy and a tendency to less violence than most men. Empathy is what makes us cringe at the thought and sight of others' pain because we feel it as our pain. The only solution I see for this is for equal numbers of women to be in positions of influence as men, throughout the world. We are a long way from that at the moment. But if a country like Liberia in Africa can have a female president because women were helped and physically brought to the polling booths, then it shows that it is possible. It also shows how far behind most Western countries are. One way of speeding this up is by looking to some of the Scandinavian countries, where equal numbers of men and women are mandated in government and on company boards. Only with women's equal voice will we have less violence in the world.

I'm so shocked by the video I just watched. I was told about this investigation by a co-worker of the hog farm that i work at. He was as sickened by this video as I am. I agree that, that man should be punished and removed from his job. He should also be banned from owning or working around ANY animals. I used to be an Animal Control Officer and have seen many forms of abuse but this TOPS them all! Makes you wonder how he treats his kids (if he has any)?
The farm that i work on DOES NOT treat our hogs like this. They are considered like living breathing creatures that feel pain and have the right to be treated with kindness. Some of them i consider them as my kids. I'm sad and care if something happens to them and do my best to help them. As with any livestock sometimes things just happen and injuries do happen. It's the way things are but there is NO REASON that the hogs should be treated like that. I'm disgusted. It makes all farms look bad when there are good ones out there that really do care about the animals we are responsible for.

I agree that this person acted inappropriately and that he should be disciplined and counseled so that he understands that what he did was wrong; and that any future recurrence of this behavior would lead to dismissal.

I am also astonished at the amount of hate and self righteousness that is contained in the many comments posted on this site.

There is evidence on television and in our communities, on a daily basis, that shows how terrible humans, both male and female, young and old, can be to one another. Obviously this bad behavior extends beyond human to human contact.

My concern is that many of the people posting want retaliation or an eye for an eye. This is an option but we need to remember that one day we may act out inappropriately and will be in the market for some understanding.

The farm/Hormel should 1) be fined up the whazoo,and 2) the farm manager should be fired immediately, indicted, brought to trial, convicted for animal abuse, fined and jailed and then, when he is released, be made to work with animal caregivers in his community who will, hopefully, show him how one is SUPPOSED to treat ALL animals. If he does not do this or fails to comply in any way, he will then be stomped and kicked with steel-toed boots, electro-shocked, and left to bleed and die. Hopefully he will then know what it feels like. I believe in second chances---- but, if the farm manager fails once, then he deserves the harshest punishment.

OH BARBARA DUKE...Actually shooting an animal between the eyes is the ONLY humane way to kill an animal IF an animal NEEDS to be killed. It's how the "EXTINCT" small family farmers killed their animals as they CARED for the wellbeing of their critters.

There is something terribly wrong with humans today. I don`t understand why so many people think they have the right to abuse these innocent animals....it is such a sin to inflict this horrific pain on ANY living thing. It is beyond belief that no action has been taken by Hormel. I will write them a personal letter immediately. But why is the name of the supplier not mentioned in the report by PETA? No i am not a factory worker. The way it looks to me is her leg got caught in the gate and he was helping her get unstuck by using his foot and the shocker to get her lose. A pig that size could have easily broke his hand if she got his hand and her stuck between the metal. I'm not a strong supporter of PETA nor many of it's practices however after reading about this heinous activity in the newspaper, I have sent online correspondence to Hormel and will follow up to pressure them to take action against the perpetrators involved which must include but not be limited to the dismissal of management and workers involved at this Bayard Co. farm.

They ARE amazing, I used to assist the sows deliver their piglets as they TEND to sometimes roll over on their babies but they SURE ARE amazing, I LOVE 'em, therefore I don't eat them ') OR any other non human animal, mammal, etc, I eat from LIFE and get all the protein I need from rice and green barley grass juice which supplies the body with ALL the nutrients needed for a healthy body, incl protein, fiber and phyto nutrients, etc, NO NEED for solid foods.

Hey a healthy body=a healthy mind and spirit! Have eaten this way for over 30 years and NOT to brag but I'm 49 and look in my MID 30 something I see it and everyone else does too so the PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING, Veganism is the PERFECT anti ager AND it DOES a body EXCELLENT ')

As long as people like you continue to believe the myth of humane slaughter, animals will continue to suffer exactly the abuse shown on the video. Hormel is not unique in its treatment of farm animals--they just got caught. Anyone claiming to feel sorry for these animals needs to GO VEGAN! Boycotting Hormel might make you feel as though you are doing something, but I'd like to think that people would do something that will actually benefit animals instead of merely their own consciences.

This was the worst of the worst, and there are people who work in places such as the one seen here who actually care for animals. This animal was obviously unabulatory and needed to be humanely destroyed. Non-support by boycotting pork will not solve anything. Please don't judge the industry by the bad apples in this video.

I live in northwest Iowa. The local news today just reported that all people involved in this abuse case were fired. This includes the manager of the farm. Thank you PETA.

First of all, the manager in question is no longer employed by the facility. 6 people have been arrested and will be in court sometime in the next couple of weeks. 4 of the 6 no longer work at the facility while the other 2 are kept under close observation. This farm is one of hundreds owned by MowMar and MowMar is one supplier of thousands supplying pork to Hormel.
Second, it might be helpful if people knew how this work. The County Sheriff's office investigates complaints. They gather statements and evidence which they then present to the
County Attorney. The County Attorney then reviews the information and decides what charges, if any, will be filed. Arrest warrants are then issued and taken to the County Magistrate who decides whether or not to sign them. Law Enforcement cannot make an arrest in this type of complaint without that signature. The Magistrate also decides what the bond is and if the subjects will be released without bond. Law Enforcement does not have the legal power to close a business or tell them who can work there and who cannot. In Iowa, the Department of Agriculture is the authority who oversees the treatment and condition of farm animals and even pets. Even if they have been contacted, the legal process can take significant time.
I would hope that the public would understand that Law Enforcement, in this case, is doing the best they can with the restraints the law puts on them and that they should be contacting state and federal lawmakers to complain when the outcome is not what they are hoping for, not local Law Enforcement who cannot change the law.
I personally was appalled by the treatment of these animals but we should also keep in mind that the treatment was by individuals, not corporations in this particular case and those individuals are on their way to pay the price for their actions.

Interesting to see how some people try to trivialise the suffering of animals. Thank God for PETA and its people who are brave and strong enough to go undercover and expose these hideous crimes. If they didn't have that that strength, these crimes would go unpunished. I like the idea suggested by Asher above, that this man should be sent back as a pig to suffer - but it would only be gratifying if his current consciousness (such as it is) were aware of it. We must ask God to forgive and help the people who do not have compassion to somehow find it.

I became vegetarian nearly 11 months ago and felt as though by doing so I was doing my own little part to help animals and I see this video and learn nothing is done to the guy. Am I nuts to think that I'd like to kill this guy?.... I don't know if God exists, but I hope he is around when this guy dies. I used to have strong faith in "Jesus, the Good Sheperd" and he could not possibly bear this torture of his innocents. I remember from somewhere: "Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord".

When I first read this article it broke my heart. Obviously the perpatrators did not see "BABE" or grow up watching "CHARLOTTS WEB". Would you Mr. Manager show the undercover videos to your children or grandchildren? To face charges is not enough. An eye for an eye. Iowa is too lenient on criminals, it seems--what is their problem--need to revise and beef up the law on animal abuse anywhere--thought this was AMERICA!!--and why don't the videos show the abusers face and give their names?--think everyone would like to know who they are and their names--would be interesting--

I wish all people were evolved enough that we didn't have slaughter houses, crimes against one another or self. Then these situations wouldn't exist. I do not know what to do with myself when I view such horror. Bless the man and turn up the heat for him. I dont understand how all of you can judge this swine farmer like you are. How many of you have AG degrees? and of that group, how many of you have actually been on a real working farm? Statistics tell me that the number of you who have is less than 1%, so before you go making wild alligations, assess the situation at hand, and realize that there are people out there who actually do know more than you do, believe it or not.

I think the reason the sow could not stand was that she was beaten on the spine and was crippled at an early age. I bet the hoof got ganggreen and fell off. How repulsive that someone would continue to beat her after she got paralyzed. Can anyone verify that the metal rod that is identified as the "weapon" is actually a tire iron or crow bar? They weigh about 10 pounds. How can people volunteer to get on that farm and take care of the animals? There is a farm out East that is an animal sanctuary. Does anyone know if some of the Mowmar animals were removed or "rescued". I have friends who have hobby farms. They would LOVE to adopt a little piggie. Is there a group that can take the runts and get them to foster farm care????????

many people have become desensitized through upbringing and such like. There is a difference between this and taking great delight in torturing an animal, as for sexual abuse well! what can be said that there is something terribly wrong with this type of person and unfortunataly this would be serial killer will be employed by this industry as there is little or no monitoring. There is a great difference between a hardend person and a cruel person. I am sure that Betty is an insensitve person opposed to a cruel one or maybe one that really needs attention by posting such stupid comments. I take my hat off to the investigator as I know that I would be in court for murder or such like and then we will never know what goes on. Come on folks we can build an army if we try dont give up!

To the people who are defending these animal abusers, saying that they aren't doing anything so bad....Any of you willing to volunteer to get shocked by one of these "sticks?" Let's see how you like it. It's doubtful to me that the poor pigs like it very much, either. If you're so willing to defend the awful torture that is being done to these animals, how willing would you be to take their places? After all, if they "have it made," and "aren't being mistreated," as I've read here, then I want to know how you, yourself, would like the treatment that they receive.

People find it so shocking when they find out that he is still the farm manager, but to be honest if your running a farm which breeds pigs to be killed, and someone tells you the manager kicked a pig, you wouldnt care very much. I doubt pig farmers are PETA members. And the video states that if you eat pig, your supporting pig abuse, but I only eat free range organic bacon from my friend's farms, and theyre all good honest people with pets. The worst thing they did is tickle a pig on the belly and one morning my friend forgot to feed the chickens and fed them 1 hour late.

With animal cruelty footage on tape, isn't this all that is needed? Also, is this one of the people up on cruelty charges? If so, why not? What is going on here?
