Sad news—House Peters Jr., the man we all know and love as Mr. Clean, passed away yesterday at the respectable age of 92.
I pretty much love the character of Mr. Clean. In a world of cleaning-product commercials featuring only women, Mr. Clean's gender-stereotype–defying presence was always refreshing. (Plus, he had an earring, which is cool—and pretty progressive for the 1950s, when the character premiered!)
What I don't love, though, is the company responsible for the product Mr. Clean—Proctor & Gamble (P&G), the infamous maker of animal-tested Iams! PETA's problem with P&G goes back pretty far—far enough, in fact, for us to have parodied Mr. Clean's image on a 1998 protest door hanger.
But that wasn't enough to convince P&G to stop abusing animals in the name of "research." While P&G has developed non-animal testing methods and worked to end much of its outdated testing program, even today, eight years later, P&G–owned Iams continues to keep up to 700 dogs and cats locked inside hidden laboratories.
So as we say goodbye to Mr. Clean, we urge you to honor his memory by, say, wearing white T-shirts and gold earrings—not by purchasing Iams.

Stop testing testing on animals there is absolutely no need for it! Especially for a cleaning product!

WOW! I DIDN'T KNOW THIS! P&G MAKES ME SICK. I E-MAILED THEM AND GOT A RESPONSE. THEY NAMED ALOT OF THE ANIMALS THAT THEY TESTED ON. AND WHEN I E-MAILED THEM BACK ON THE ISSUE OF DOGS AND CATS, THEY WOULDN'T TELL ME IF THEY DID. THEY DIDN'T SAY THAT THEY DIDN'T. SO I TOLD THEM I WOULD BE BOYCOTTING THEM FOR NOT TELLING ME. I KEPT THE E-MAIL IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT. THE LIST OF ANIMALS THAT THEY TEST ON WAS AWFUL. BOYCOTT P&G!

Rest in Peace now Mr. Clean, I wish I could say the same for Proctor & Gamble!! STOP gambling with animals' lives!! My two rescued dogs have lived on a vegan diet their whole lives (including my rescued quail, lol) Joker's 8 and Thor a doberman mix is 18, yes eighteen and in tip top shape! There's no need to kill anything in order to live!! So live and let live in a guilt free kinda way and you'll do your body and your pets a favor. They are two males and docile as can be thanks to a veg diet!! And Thanks to SASHA can you try and post the email?

I boycotted P&G about 5 years ago after someone left a brochure in my mailbox on P&G and the animal testing they do. I've since done more research and find this company very repulsive. I refuse to buy or use any products made by this company and often when in the cleaning aisle at my local store will say loudly to whoever I'm with "I don't use "Febreeze, Tide, Mr. Clean, etc" They test on animals. That's sick." Gotta spread the word :)

Carla, could you tell us what you're feeding your dogs? I haven't had much luck getting mine on a vegan diet, but I'm very hopeful that I can find the right one for them someday!

wow, i cant believe everything that has been shown on this website. it amazes and discusts me of how they treat those poor animals. companys that never would have appeared as though they were even invovled with the cruelty of animals seem to be showing their true colors! i am now a peta supporter!

That is why I haven't bought any P&G products in years.

I haven't bought any P&G products in YEARS, and never will--Am very surprised that people still do, are they not aware of the cruelty to animals or don't they care?--it's absolutely shameful what they do to animals--and it disgraceful they are still in business--how do they get away with it, and what kind of morons do they hire to do their dirty work--

AND THAT IS JUST WHAT THEY SAID AT THE END OF THAT SENTENCE..OTHERS! THEY WOULD NOT ANSWER MY QUESTION IF THEY TESTED ON DOGS AND CATS.SO,I THINK THAT IS GOING ON. THEY WOULD NOT TELL ME. I FEEL LIKE THEY DO TEST ON DOGS AND CATS. ALSO THEY WOULD NOT TELL ME HOW MANY ANIMALS A YEAR THEY TEST ON. I SENT THE E-MAIL TO PETA ALREADY. ALSO YOU CAN GO TO THEIR(P&G) WEB-SITE. THEY(P&G) HAVE A QUESTION-CUSTORMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. YOU CAN E-MAIL ALL YOUR QUESTIONS (LIKE I DID)THEY WILL RESPOND BUT THEY WILL NOT ANSWER DIRECT QUESTIONS ABOUT TESTING ON DOGS AND CATS. BUT PLEASE ASK THEM ANYWAY(I DID!)IT WOULD BE GREAT IF ALL OF YOU WILL GO TO THAT WEB-SITE AND TELL THEM HOW YOU ARE AGAINST ANIMAL TESTING!

Crest toothpaste is a product of Proctor & Gamble. I can only imagine the sick experiments they do on innocent animals using their toothpaste!

To Kelly, Dogs are carnivores, their natural instinct is to hunt, kill and eat. It's silly to try and change nature.

HERE IT IS. THE E-MAIL I GOT FROM P&G,IT GOES AS FOLLOWS ------> I'm sorry but the exact number of animals used in our testing is proprietary because we are a company that markets drug products. Information of this type could be advantageous to competitors, so we don't release it (it might give competitors an idea of what type product we're working on). I will say the vast majority of our testing however does not include animals. Animal testing is the exception, not the rule. It's only considered after every other reasonable option has been exhausted. Also the majority of the animals used for animal research are rats and mice. The remaining animals used for animal research are guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, and ferrets and others. Thanks for writing back. AlisonPantene TeamE E-MAIL FROM PG
