You know how we always say that chickens are the most abused animals on the planet? Well, watch this horrific video and you'll see why. A new investigation by our friends at Mercy for Animals has once again exposed the cruelty behind the egg industry. Undercover footage taken at one of the largest egg farms in California documented that workers were swinging chickens around by their necks in a heartless attempt to kill them. Chickens were crammed into filthy wire battery cages so small that they could barely move. Left to suffer with untreated injuries, infections, and open wounds, the chickens were forced to live side-by-side with the decomposing bodies of their cagemates for weeks on end.
Every time animal advocates investigate egg factory farms, they expose horrific cruelty just like this. Fortunately, there are a couple of things that we can do about it. First of all, ditch the eggs from your diet (if you haven't done so already). If you don't buy eggs, no one has to suffer to make them, right? Secondly, you can help banish battery cages in California. This November, Californians will have the opportunity to pass Proposition 2, which would require that farmed animals be given enough room to stand up, turn around, lie down, and extend their limbs. If you live in California, please vote YES on Proposition 2 and encourage your friends and family members to do the same.

In their behavior toward creatures, ALL MEN are Nazis. Human beings see oppression VIVIDLY when THEY are the victims, otherwise they victimize BLINDLY and WITHOUT a thought...
Nothing MORE strongly arouses our DISGUST than cannibalism, yet we make the same impression on Buddhists and vegetarians for we feed on babies, though NOT our own.
Until we STOP harming ALL other living beings we are STILL savages and as long as there are slaughterhouses, there WILL BE battlefields.

I've ditched eggs looooooooong ago and I never looked back, never missed them, never needed them, really!
I've seen a "Mercy for Animals" clip before and I need not to view this one to renew my motivation in helping and speaking up for the chickens.
SHEER HORROR is what chickens endure on a "second by second" basis!!!
I agree that birds are by far, the most exploited and abused animals on the face of the earth.
Even if I had my own, well provided for chickens, I just couldn't eat eggs again. To me, EGGS ARE NOT FOOD anymore. To think I used to love them and used to think" sure, they smell like poo when you cook'em but they taste good!"
EGGS ARE FROM HELL and they're YUCKY, SMELLY, SLIMY, DROOLY..... AND THEY SURELY ARE NOT FOR ME!!!

OPRAH is exposing the meat industry again!! EXCELLENT the what she does the sheople do, LOVE IT!
I've been ON HER her for years since she professed to NEVER eat another hamburger again, she's finally taking my lead!!!

Last year Oprah had a show that exposed the horrible puppy mill industry. this year cruel factory farms.You're right Vanessa,if a lot of people thanked her for this show on exposing factory farms WHO KNOWS?? maybe next year millions of people will watch on Oprah what really goes on in the fur industry OR the vivisection that is still going on when way better alternatives are available, Or outdated animal testing when there are to many alternatives that can be used as well.

You've never tried my grandpa's chicken's eggs.
Those eggs were awsome. And they were running around the farm all happy and were kept safe in a huge chicken coop.
Anyway yeah too bad for said bill only being proposed in California as I really dont' get how they can't let the eggs live in good conditions?

I do not eat much meat.. but I still find it is okay to buy and eat eggs occasionally AS LONG AS they are either barn eggs or free range eggs.. hens in general will still happily lay eggs and as long as they are not suffering in cramped wire cages all day long.. I am perfectly happy to buy and eat their eggs..
I see people buying battery eggs.. and I can't comprehend it.. their selfishness.. and mean-ness.. I say.. if you're not willing to pay that little more extra to buy better welfare eggs.. then you really dont' deserve to eat eggs at all!! and you should go without.. heartless, mean so and so's...

Hey Ben Y you ARE definitely ONE of the sheople and I am FULLY aware of Goodwin's Law but what I state is FACT whether you LIKE it or NOT!
I suggest you do some research instead of getting you facts from the tube as TV is MOST misleading! You can NOT believe that factory farms and modern slaughterhouses are creations of the nazis SHORT for neo-cons, the meat industry is PURE nazi-ism and that's THAT! You also believe we're free too right?? ahahahaaaa

@ bet : Sorry to inform you, but battery cage eggs are only the beginning. Most free-range chickens are kept in tight quarters for the majority of the day and there are no laws or regulations to provide for the amount of time allowed outside or the limit to the number of hens that can be kept in the barn or housing used by the farm (not to mention, but most farms still practice beak cutting regardless of free-range or not). Unless you are getting your eggs personally from a family farm, you are still buying eggs that come from a cruel environment. I found this page a little bit ago, found it quite interesting (it's a page from the Humane Society of the United States).

I've been veggie for about 4 months now, just went vegan a few weeks ago. If they are coming from a large supplier, chances are the chickens aren't living the carefree life you think they are.
That page I listed above also makes a very good point at the bottom - most egg farms kill male chicks at birth, because they serve no purpose to the farm. Taking a life simply because it isn't profitable is cruel at best. Gah, this stuff makes me feel so militant! No offense is meant, btw. Just feel the need to spread the info around a bit! :)

I really wanna snap those worker's necks and stomp the heck out of them and then ask them how it feels.
That's is AWFUL and made me cry. I'm a newly vegetarian and I feel great that I don't eat meat, but I still eat cheese and eggs. I don't drink milk, only soy milk. I'm hoping once I get a nice job I can buy my own organic eggs and cheese, just so I can feel good that my eggs didn't come from these kinda places.
WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND OR HEART WOULD THROW OR KICK A POOR INNOCENT CHICKEN? They're very sweet animals. I used to have two baby chicks when I was young, I raised them from babies to about young adults. I loved them so much. They got taken by a hawk though :(

I watched Oprah and it was clear people had noooooo idea how farm animals are treated (and they only talked about housing!). Wayne Pacelle of the HSUS was amazing and the people from the meat/egg industry and some lady from a consumers group that opposes Prop 2, were left stuttering. They looked like idiots.

Well I would not say remove eggs from our diet its kinda hard for me for I love eggs, but next time I am out for eggs I am going for the ones that come from a farm rather then the battery eggs.
chickens need to roam free on a farm. they are happier that way and when they are happy and healthy they tend to lay more eggs.

Yeah I'm not arguing with you but I'm just saying thats why I never really ate eggs from any place other than my grandpas as the chickens were happy chickens.
Also if you look back at my previous post you'd notice that I said its a bummer than the proposition is only in California. I am in New York. Therfore there is a lack of me being able to vote for it. I don't get what point of what I said was going against the truth.
And on a final note vegeterians and vegans aren't excluded from Godwin's Law, no matter how good one's intentions are IMO.

trying to figure out where your eggs actually come from ie battery or barn/free range is actually harder than it sounds..a staunch shopper who avoids battery eggs.. at all costs may inadvertently still buy products incorporating eggs from battery hens.. eg. the eggs used in your mayo.. in that vanilla icecream tub of yours.. in that confectionery of chocolate or 'angel cake'.. the list could go on.. if you're a really zealous shopper you can shop more carefully with names brands that already declare use of free range eggs only.. welfare of free range hens would vary I suppose from farmer to farmer raising them.. but given the choice.. I'd easily opt for hte less cruel option.. or the egg that was deposited by a hen that was not encaged in stifling confinement suffering all her life on a daily basis, fed on growth hormones.. and in a terrible state physically - you can tell a battery hen to a barn or free range hen if htey were just put side to side to each other.. the battery hen woudl be the one with most of her feathers missing.. and maybe all of them have clipped beaks? the bedraggled lookign one will be the battery hen.. each and every time..

Blu.. as I am aware only battery hens are 'de-beaked' and I believe this practise is carried out to deter them from pecking in frustration due to their intense close confinement with each other and trapped in a small cage.. I dont' think it applies to hens that have much more freedom ie in barns or free range.. in any case.. debeaked or not.. and the free range issue.. even if were just 1-2 hours freedom outside.. and the rest of time kept indoors.. even that alone is VASTLY better for the hen than being permanently imprisoned with several others in a small wire cage day after day after day ..

I never realized that barn eggs are hbard to find, I might have to reasearch the brand of egg based products that I buy.
Even still the farms should care for their egg layers for they are our means of having delicious eggs, it is a small compromise. You feed them and keep them happy and they provide the product that simple.

I am a huge supporter of PETA, but I don't think you need to give up eggs, (which I adore) just find a new source from where you get them. I have 6 laying hens and you can't imagine how cruelty free their lives are. The only things they have to be afraid of are my cats, which happen to be half their size. Further more the eggs we get are WAY bigger than the eggs you get at the store!
I understand that not everyone can own their own chikens but everyone can find somewhere else to get their eggs.
