The smoke has long cleared after the arrest of nearly 100 dazed and confused people in a San Diego drug sting, but now a 4- to 5-acre field of marijuana in Redwood National Park (now nicknamed Park o' Pot) has been uncovered. Now is the perfect time to run our billboard warning folks that pot roast is far more hazardous to their health than that other pot.

Say No to Pot (Roast)

Dude, smoking dope might make you forget where you put your car keys, but eating meat is linked to all kinds of killer diseases. Meat is often loaded with drugs, pesticides, hormones, and antibiotics. The consumption of meat, eggs, and dairy products has been linked to heart disease, strokes, obesity, diabetes, and various types of cancer—not to mention other hazards, including E. coli, salmonella, and listeria. Yummy.

Of course, if the fact that you're consuming lots of dangerous drugs by eating burgers and chicken doesn't disturb you, you might want to know that animals on factory farms are crammed into cages and crates, are forced to undergo excruciatingly painful procedures, and are often skinned and dismembered while still conscious.

Totally harsh, man. But all is not lost. You can make yourself drug-free and bring yourself some "I did something good for animals" karma by doing one simple thing—going veg today.

If more people smoked pot and less people ate meat, the world would be a better place.

Stop murdering our good friends, the animals. You will have to pay for all that suffering You inflict....what goes around, comes around

I love the ad and think it's a great idea, but my only concern is with the blog trivialising the effects of marijuana to 'losing your keys.'

I know myself how unhealthy animal products are (hence why I'm vegan), but I think that the effects of marijuana are too serious to be made a mockery of. As a paramedic, I see the effect that this drug has on a lot of people, and can cause severe psychosis and paranoia to the extent that the drug-affected person cannot tolerate life and causes self harm and suicide.

As I said, I have no problem with the ad, I just ask that in the future drug use is not depicted as any less of an issue than it really is.

Cheers

Ward

You people sound like you've been doing pot yourself. This is as good as the "got beer" campaign. What next? Heroine, not steak?

HOW FUNNY -DUDE !! I LOVE THE "DON'T BE A MEAT-HEAD" THIS IS A COOL AD AND I LOVE IT!

Posted by: SASHA | September 19, 2008 10:20 PM

The only pot-roasting I partake in is vegetarian!

Haha! This one made me laugh and will soon be on my MySpace page. Quite eye catching! I still find it hilarious that our government pushes their so called "War On Drugs" so much but many of our politicians take their donation dollars, not to mention our government using our tax dollars, and use them to fund beef and dairy industry companies. These companies then turn around and pump us full of drugs contained in their meat and milk and cheeses. How sweet of them.

Eat Green and Smoke Green

Posted by: JahLove | September 20, 2008 02:45 PM

Hm, trying to get someone to understand what they are eating is no easy task. I work with someone who, everytime we want to order lunch, we get into a big debate about how animals "have no feelings"...but as long as I try to help someone understand right?

Posted by: Melissa | September 20, 2008 05:14 PM

Even though I'm straight edge, I tend to agree with Siobhan.
Pot smoking is relatively harmless, while meat-eating is definitely far from harmless, as the post clearly illustrates.

Posted by: Antoine | September 20, 2008 06:42 PM

Um yeah... you can still get ecoli and other contaminants from vegetables. Lets not forget the spinach and tomato/ pepper recalls in the news. They had ecoli too, so I don't think being a vegetarain is some special ticket not to get sick from food pathogens.

This is one of the funniest PETA ads I've ever seen! Isn't it strange that smoking pot is considered illegal/criminal,while killing millions of animals raised in the worst conditions is completely legal and endorsed by governments...if only each burger came with a ''behind the scenes'' leaflet,or if the media were sincere enough to show the truth on television, papers and such...more people would protest and probably go vegetarian.

Posted by: SLC | September 21, 2008 01:06 AM

I guess if this is true than maybe it shouldn't be legal to eat meat, but hey smoking cigarettes which is loaded with chemicals including fermeldahide (and causes cancer which my mother got from smoking) and drinking various types of alcohol which can cause liver damage (my mother has this), these are all legal so I guess anything else that is bad for you will be ok just as long as it doesn't make the government look bad.

Jessica,

E coli can be found on vegetables, but it comes from animals (intestines) originally.

Posted by: Mike Quinoa | September 22, 2008 11:18 AM

Mike is right Jessica. The reason our produce is being contaminated is because of the horrendous amount of waste being created through meat "production". Vegetables aren't naturally grown with intestinal bacteria. Plant a garden.

Posted by: Siobhan M. | September 22, 2008 05:42 PM

Ah, This is why I LOVE PETA!!!

Posted by: kathleen | September 22, 2008 11:13 PM

This is awesome!I couldn't agree more.

Posted by: Kathleen W. | September 23, 2008 09:41 PM

Well in case you didn't know, humans produce millions of ecoli bacteria in their intestines too! Therefore most food contamination comes from a worker not washing his hands after using the bathroom, or not practicing common hygiene. It also comes from a moron who doesn't properly cook the meat. So the generalization that consumption of pot roast or meat in general leads to ecoli and food pathogen sicknesses is completely irrelevant. Packing plants have rigorous methods to kill food pathogens, such as chemical baths, fire chambers, and various other mechanisms meant to kill the pathogens before human consumption.

Posted by: Jessica | September 24, 2008 02:13 PM

Jessica,

Tell the people that were sickened or died from listeriosis here in Canada that "packing plants have rigorous methods to kill food pathogens."

If my food has to undergo "chemical baths and fire chambers" (whatever those are), I think I'll pass.

Jesica you are as dumb as a box of rocks and as hard hearted as well. Fools and mean spirits aren't suffered easily on these pages. We are people who love the planet and all of it's inhabitants. We are people who get along very nicely without the blood of beasts in our temples. We are compassionate and we walk in love as the Bible commands us. Love is the highest principle of all principles. The Kingdom of God is Vegan and those without MERCY judgement will be merciless.

Posted by: Elijah | September 25, 2008 12:34 PM

Elijah, what do you mean the kingdom of God is Vegan?
What are you going to do now, quote me a hundred passages from the bible that if taken from a certain point of view sounds vegan?
You preach about love, yet you are spewing hate towards Jesica. Why should you be held to a double standard in Gods eyes?
