PETA has offered to pay to advertise in the bathroom stalls of several financially struggling schools across the nation. Increased gas prices have driven many schools to measures like cutting back on bus routes. But rather than forcing young students to walk to and from school (uphill both ways, I'm sure), they could generate much-needed revenue by selling us ad space.

You're welcome, schools! We're looking out for you.

Since most kids visit the restroom at some point before lunch, we thought bathroom stalls would be the perfect home for our informative spoof of the infamous "Got Milk?" campaign.

Milk spew and bathroom stalls go together like peas and carrots.

We also sent letters to the superintendents of schools to let them know that drinking cow's milk puts teens on the road to adult diseases, such as heart disease, various types of cancer, and strokes. It's also the number one source of allergies and is linked to juvenile onset diabetes, acne, and obesity.

I wonder why they don't teach that in health class!

It looks like a great ad to me! Well done Peta!

Posted by: Pete | September 16, 2008 10:11 AM

Nice ad. I wish this was in my h.s., maybe I would have woken up much sooner.

Posted by: ian | September 16, 2008 11:21 AM

I don't think that this should be shown in schools unless it is in high schools because this is going against what the parents are teaching young children and also they may be too young to understand. This would be great to put in high schools where teens are learning to take a stand for something they truly believe in.

Posted by: Liv | September 16, 2008 12:29 PM

A PETA ad that dosen't use shock tactics and is short and sweet with its message?

Well kudos to you PETA. Kudos. :)

Posted by: King of Fiji | September 16, 2008 04:40 PM

THAT IS SO FUNNY !! I AGREE WITH LIV- THIS SHOULD BE IN HIGH SCHOOLS- IT'S TO MUCH FOR THE LITTLE ONES TO UNDERSTAND. MAYBE YOU SHOULD DO ADS TO LET THEM KNOW WHAT THEY SHOULD BE EATING AND DRINKING. GO VEGGIE !!!

Posted by: SASHA | September 16, 2008 04:54 PM

hello world..im so thankful to all peta members.keep on fighting for the right of all animals..spread the love and teachings.GOD bless you all.

Posted by: pinoy vegan | September 16, 2008 05:27 PM

ugh.. really really gross ad..! can't you get the msg through to people without having to gross them out? it's almost something that if I came across this ad agian.. I'd intentionally try to duck my head or turn away.. anything.. just to avoid looking at the gross image agian.. (enough to put you off your breakfast!! lunch .. dinner) and that surely is something PeTA shoudl be trying to avoid.. ie. people avoiding looking at their ads!

Posted by: yf | September 16, 2008 06:24 PM

I think this is a wonderful way to raise awareness about the cruelty involved with dairy production. Way to go, Peta!

Posted by: Kathleen W. | September 16, 2008 08:10 PM

Most people do not realize that a calf has 4 stomachs to digest the high fat content of it-s mothers milk. Humans are not designed to break down the fat and enzymes in cows milk and so we gain weight, have digestive problems, heart attacks allergies and acne. Milk and cheese made from goats or sheep is alright. I also hope the ad is only in hs since young children would not understand....

Posted by: Beth | September 16, 2008 08:40 PM

great ad!! i love it!! :-) but im a little confused. the posters that we have in our cafeteria(im in middle school) say thet drinking milk makes you leaner and stronger and gives you healthy bones. but this ad says it makes you obese. which one is right?

Posted by: stop animal cruelty | September 16, 2008 09:21 PM

I don't care for that poster, it's moronic, give the stdents more credit. Invading their stalls isn't cool either. I think you can do better.

Posted by: Angel | September 16, 2008 10:56 PM

Wonderful ad Peta! Hope its makes a few youth stop & think. Prehaps maybe make better choices for their next meal. =}

Posted by: Crystal | September 16, 2008 11:38 PM

The ad is ok. I don't think this should go into grade school's because most of these kids won't even know what it is about. Plus, it underminds parental authority. I am all about teaching kids to eat better and understand the world, but I think it can be done better than this. Most kids will laugh at this

Posted by: Summer | September 17, 2008 01:10 AM

I am in total favor of the best treatmenbt of ALL animals...but this ad is over the line, in ANY SCHOOL, ANYWHERE!!!Post some better education, than this!

Posted by: JEAN | September 17, 2008 01:47 AM

The stalls idea is cool!

btw, Beth, Calves have a special "tube" that directs milk straight to their last stomach, if it went into their first stomach it would be seriously bad for them. However, water is directed into their first stomach. The wonder of Creation. The four stomachs come into play in the digestion of grass etc. Just fyi.

Posted by: Leigh | September 17, 2008 07:57 AM

I hope that poor guy got to drink soymilk for this ad and didn't have to drink the real thing.......

Posted by: Antigone1000 | September 17, 2008 10:26 AM

get over it people like we really lets protect the small kids because they don't know any better. but aren't they they one who will grow up thinking that animals don't matter. they do and the kids should know that and they grow up with ideas and maybe just one out of thousands will end up caring about something other then themselves. think outside the box. they need to get a clue on animal abuse too. so don't say anything when they grow up and start eating meat and hurting their dogs and thinking that its ok when its sooo not. animal abuse is never ever right!!!!!!

Posted by: amy | September 17, 2008 11:45 AM

I disagree. I don't think this ad should be placed in schools. For one, you would have to get approved by the private schools and if someone is paying money outta their own pocket to send their kid to school- I would think they would want to have a say in what is posted in the bathrooms when it comes to something such as this.

While the ad doesn't show anything grotesque (sp?), it is inappropriate for most age levels. If their parents wants to have them drink other milk and teach them about this then that should be on them not the schools.

PETA isn't the one who is going to be responsible for getting expensive soy milk put in the schools. A majority of public schools in America already have a problem with people needing financial assitance to help pay for their kids lunches. So, unless PETA wishes to provide financial assistance to public school lunches, you might want to find another way to get your message across to students. It's unfair for you to expect them to be so accepting but you are not offering an alternative that costs the schools the same amount or less money. When you wish for people to change their ways you must provide a solution and unfortunatly you are not providing anything. New information can only get people so far. After they know the facts, then what? You are not gonna be there to help pay for the changes.

I am vegetarian but not vegan. I still drink skim milk. I think you could push for more humane ways to get milk from cows. It's called taking one step at a time. You wanna eliminate everything all at once and it's unfortunate for you because that just will never happen. This will never be a peaceful world (for humans or animals) until Jesus returns. Whatever your beliefs- this just can not ever be a peaceful world.

Posted by: BBR | September 17, 2008 03:37 PM

Way to go Peta, great idea. Any which way we can get this message to young people, the better!! A+

Posted by: Bea B | September 18, 2008 02:55 AM

I have never liked milk at all. Even as a kid I never drank it,never put it on cereal and have always thought that it was disgusting. I am even repulsed by watching others drink it.

Posted by: David | September 18, 2008 06:47 AM

BBR: Why is it okay to push meat/dairy in schools, but not okay to push veg foods??

Also--There is NO humane way to get milk. You should not condone the murder of baby cows so that YOU, an ADULT human way past the age of needing ANY milk, let alone that of another animal, can drink it in their place. When you think of the reality--an adult killing a child to take the milk meant for the child--don't you feel ashamed?

It's great that you are willing to sit back and wait for Jesus, but YOU are not the one suffering. I think the animals want a better world NOW and we can give it to them. We need to stop pinning change on someone else and recognize that we have the ability and the moral right to make those changes now--no excuses.

Posted by: Antigone1000 | September 18, 2008 10:49 AM

I agree, this ad needs to go in to all schools, at all levels. Kids who some of you believe are "too young to understand" will ask questions about it and this is a GOOD THING. Asking and getting information is the only thing that will change anything. Being soft and tippy toeing around the realities of these poor cows situation, is WRONG. That would be like wispering to each other about DARFUR or genocide of any sort! These animals lives are in danger. They are living miserable lives, and some of you are concerned what young kids will think about seeing a man spewing milk out of his nose That is just so lame and is the reason this stuff goes on! Stand up and say the truth!! Kids are smart enough to make up their own minds... Thank God for that!

Posted by: Jill | September 18, 2008 04:52 PM

Carrie - You drank milk as a child, correct??? What was good for you then is good for you now.... - Jake Lake Guthrie Center, IA

Posted by: Jacob E. Lake | September 18, 2008 07:28 PM

To pinoy vegan...ok you have to realize that what they do to the cows is definitly not pretty so would you rather they show that to kids? just a thought...

Posted by: Melissa | September 18, 2008 07:43 PM

I,m new to this, I didn't even know you people don't drink milk either!! Why do you think cows live abused lives? They have a great life, never have to want for food or water, and most get to graze outside in good weather, and stay inside where its warm in the winter.... What do you drink to get the Vitamin D and calcium needed to be healthy? I remember when I was young I stopped drinking milk for three years and broke bones everytime I fell down or got hit by a dodgeball wrong.....

Posted by: John K. | September 18, 2008 09:26 PM

Antigone1000, Where in the world did you get the idea that baby cows are killed, so we can have cow's milk?? That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard!! I doubt you would know a cow from a pig!!

Posted by: John K. | September 18, 2008 09:51 PM

John K: In your Fantasy World, where do you think the baby cows go--DisneyWorld?? In reality--they become veal calves. You might want to do some research before you post and look like an idiot.

Posted by: Antigone1000 | September 19, 2008 10:14 AM

And the person that compared DARFUR to the dairy cows I have to say you are and IDIOT. People that are brutally murdered because of power struggles is not anywhere close to the treatment of a pampered Dairy cow.

Posted by: Callie | September 19, 2008 12:16 PM

Oh come on....this is ridiculous....children under 5 must drink a pint of milk a day until the age of 5 for proper bone development....you could be causing many mums to abolish giving milk to children

Posted by: Jill Williams | September 19, 2008 01:18 PM

Jill Williams: Children DO NOT need cows's milk and many children cannot digest it. Check out pcrm.org for info about raising vegan children.

Posted by: Antigone1000 | September 19, 2008 06:43 PM

Callie: Right back at you with the idiot comment. If you want to trade places with a dairy cow, feel free.

Posted by: Antigone1000 | September 19, 2008 07:27 PM

I AGREE WITH ANTIGONE1000. BECAUSE HE STATES THE FACTS. HOW CAN YOU NOT STAND UP FOR THESE ANIMALS. ALL OF THEM! AND YES THEY DO KILL THEIR LITTLE BABY CALVES. JUST LIKE ANTIGONE1000 SAID..IT'S CALLED VEAL. GO PETA! GO VEGGIE! GO ANTIGONE1000 WITH YOUR FACTS ON ANIMAL RIGHTS!AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO STANDS UP FOR GOD'S ANIMALS! BLESS YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: SASHA | September 23, 2008 12:12 AM

I do not have the time to expand upon the issue, but rest assured that children do NOT need cow's milk for proper bone development and can be safely raised vegan by a family educated in what constitutes a proper vegan diet...even the Google "health experts" that show up on this site periodically can look up this simple, undeniable fact. Of course, then they usually cite the ONE case of severe nutritional neglect that was blamed on vegan parents, which would then cause me and multiple others to educated the ignorant poster, which has been done repeatedly.

Bottom line...no one needs ANY meat or milk to have a healthy balanced diet...end of discussion.

THANK YOU DEREK,MD. WELL SAID!ALL I EVER HEAR IS HOW I MUST HAVE LOW IRON BECAUSE I DON'T EAT MEAT, MY IRON IS BETTER THAN EVER. YOU GET IRON FROM GREEN VEGGIES. I CAN'T GET ANYONE TO UNDERSTAND THIS. SAME WITH THE MILK ISSUE. AGAIN, THANK YOU!

Posted by: SASHA | September 23, 2008 09:35 PM

Tell you what people. You raise your kids the way you want and let the rest of us raise ours' the way we want. I drank milk as a child, so did my brothers. We all turned out to be very healthy. In fact, I can count on one hand the times I ever feel sick.
All three of us turned out to be good athletes and both my brothers have healthy children. And they are also drinking milk. Don't tell me milk is bad for humans, because its not.

Posted by: Kurt K | September 26, 2008 02:02 PM

LOVE IT!!!!!
You need SHOCKING to reach teens!!! Schools are a great place to start. Too many adults are sooooo ignorant about what they are putting in their mouth.

Posted by: Jill Cerwin | September 26, 2008 07:24 PM

Kurt
("Don't tell me milk is bad for humans")
No one's making you come here and read that milk isn't good for you. You choose to come here.

Posted by: lynda downie | September 26, 2008 10:27 PM

Kurt K: Not only is it bad for humans, it's absolutlely horrible for cows. Oh, wait--I forgot. You would never dream of giving up something that is actually bad for you to save the life of someone who is killed unnecessarily as a result. Not to mention the destruction caused to the environment. But--you can't see beyond your own selfishness, so I guess there is no point in even telling you this. I do have a question, though--if all cows were to disappear off the earth tomorrow, do you think the human species will perish due to a lack of cow's milk?? Do you, really???

Posted by: Antigone1000 | September 27, 2008 11:42 AM

Antigone,
Nope, I sure don't think that. I don't think I ever suggested that.
Let me ask you a question now.
Have you ever been to a dairy farm?

Posted by: Kurt K | September 29, 2008 03:19 PM

Kurt K: Well, then, we can at least agree that you do not NEED cows milk to live, but guess who does??? That's right, those BABY cows that are murdered so that you can have it. What a sad and selfish person you are. And Lynda is absolutely right --you need not come here if our comments offend your sensibilities.

Posted by: Antigone1000 | September 30, 2008 01:04 AM

Antigone,
Quite the opposite. I feel it is my duty to come here and see what kind of radical thinking people like you exhibit.
The average Joe who doesn't know about PETA needs people to shed light on what is being cooked up(no pun intended)by animal rights activists.
I don't come here to argue every point. Believe it or not some of the stuff PETA says makes sense to me and I do not disagree with. However, there are certain issues I feel are being misrepresented. Like this one.
Once again, I ask my question.
Have you ever been to a dairy farm?

Posted by: Kurt K | October 3, 2008 10:47 AM

Kurt K
Your duty? Your duty to whom? People can think for themselves. I don't know many people (in fact none) who don't know about Peta. Your take on Peta is just that-your take - nothing more noble than that.

Posted by: lynda downie | October 3, 2008 10:36 PM

lol all the concerns about cows "feelings" are rediculous!

Posted by: chris | October 6, 2008 09:14 PM

Kurt K.. i agree 100% with you..as a kid i drank milk more then water and I'm one of the most healthy people around..been to the doctor maybe three times in my life..milk doesn't cause obesity..its the lazy kids spending too much time in front of the tv that causes obesity..and Antigone your seriously not very bright..get your facts straight.. the things you say are an gross overstatement..I was born and raised on a dairy farm and we treated our cows like pets..if they were sick they were treated..if they were too old they were put out of there misery so they wouldn't suffer. .and some (repeat some) of the male babies were raised for veal..it's sad but realistically there isn't much you can do..if you raised every male calf to be a bull used for breeding you would have way to many dangerous 3000 pound animals around. Peta is a great organization but they should rethink this statement big time.
