At last night's MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), the red carpet was alive with its usual stylish, unique, and unforgettable entrances.

Some performers arrived making a positive statement, like Paramore, who arrived in earth-friendly Smart Cars. However, rapper T-Pain chose an opposite (aka cruel) route and arrived via elephant. Yes, elephant—all the while donning a ridiculous red top hat and tuxedo jacket and surrounded by a brigade of bizarre circus performers. Hmm … forget a statement for change—that's a statement of cruelty.

Fortunately, Paramore weren't the only artists who created buzz without exploiting animals. Tokio Hotel's monster truck and Young Jeezy's presidential motorcade were other notable choices of transport.

If you're one of the many people who contacted us regarding T-Pain's terrible entrance choice last night, you'll be happy to know that PETA has written a letter to T-Pain explaining why his stunt was (perhaps unintentionally) cruel and asking him to refrain from using animals in his acts in the future.

Billy Talent showed up to a canadian award show in a tank one time.
Much cooler than an elephant.

Who the hell is T-Pain anyway???

Posted by: Jackie | September 8, 2008 09:46 PM

Hmm.. I did not watch. I don't even know who he is but how shameful!I hope he realize how cruel & stupid he looked no elephant should have to have a sorry half brain ass on its back! Guess I will just stay with rocking out to the Grateful Dead. =}

I thought it was sadly appropriate that the elephant was wearing a giant "PAIN" necklace considering the man walking next to him carrying that metal hook!!! I was disgusted by this stunt. Don't people even stop to think what cruelty it takes to tame a magnificent wild animal like that?! SO cruel. SO sad. SO arrogant of man to think he has the right to do so because he can!

I dont think his arrival is as bad as peta having steve-o do a ad against the circus when he in fact is on the show wildboys which degrades animals. I guess backflips off elephants in thailand, swimming with captive whale sharks in japan, annoying just about every species until it bites or kick them, and my personal favorite being pulled on a skateboard behind a elephant!

I thought this was disgusting....with all his cash the only thing he could think of was an elephant..this was sooo cruel. Same with the whole Britany Spears ad on the tele, with the elephant in the background what worthless humanbeings would do such a thing to an animal! I liked T-Pain but I am not going to listen to any of his crap again!!

NOT TO MENTION THE FUR COAT!

I DON'T THINK HE MEANT ANY HARM BUT HE NEEDS TO BE INFORMED ABOUT THE CRUELTY OF THOSE CHOICES!

PLEASE ENLIGHTEN HIM!

I love Paramore! :) If you haven't read any of Haley's posts you should. Check them out at paramore.net. Haley is an incredibly deep person with a passion for positive change. I’d love to meet her someday. Well Done then Haley and the Boys!

I don't think T-Pain will take the letter seriously only because he probably won't get what the big deal is.

Posted by: Hillary | September 9, 2008 10:09 AM

I've never heard of him. Until now anyway. Bad first impression he's made on me. Good job T-Pain (what a relevant stage name!).

Well, I'm glad I didn't watch the VMA's then. I also agree with Tom, I thought Steve-o was a pretty bad choice for PETA. Him and his buddies are very cruel to animals in their Jack@$$ movies. PETA, I suggest you watch the movies, I don't think you'll be too happy.

People like him are so ignorant. He probably didn't know what an elephant was until he was pitched that ridiculous entrance idea. Hopefully he has someone to read the letter to him- Lord knows he can't do it himself.

THANK YOU PETA SENDING A LETTER TO THIS T-PAIN. HE MAY HAVE NOT KNOWN OF THE ANIMAL ABUSE INVOLVED IN RIDING AN ELEPHANT.I KNOW I DIDN'T KNOW. I ONCE TOOK A RIDE ON AN ELEPHANT NOT KNOWING OF THE ABUSE. THANK GOD PETA EDUCATES ALL OF US ON THESE ISSUES. HOPEFULLY ONCE HE KNOWS HE WILL STOP AND BECOME A ADVOCATE AGAINST THIS AND ALSO TO STOP WEARING FUR. KEEP US INFORMED. I HOPE YOUR LETTER TO HIM INSPIRES HIM TO MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE.

Posted by: SASHA | September 9, 2008 04:04 PM

T-pain?? More like "elephant pain"!

Thank you, PETA, for writing to T-Pain to tell him about the abuse that captive elephants have to endure. You guys are wonderful! =]

I don't think he put much though in it but I hope he takes the letter serious, I also agree with j. keast about peta using steve-o on an ad, he's far worst than t-pain, at least he dosent try to piss off animals to make money

Posted by: Heather D` | September 10, 2008 10:46 AM

See, I love Paramore and have met Hayley. They are sooooo amazing. T-pain? I hate him. didn't he make that "apple bottom jeans" song or whatever where they are talking about apple bottom jeans and boots with the fur?

I SAW IT COMING!! Nobody would listen to me "oh it's just a song..." songs are a reflection of life, so yea i saw it coming.

WHEN SOMEONE NEEDS SHOCK VALUE AND ALL THAT POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE, WE KNOW THEY ARE TRULY FEELING INADEQUATE INSIDE, BUT TO USE A SENTIENT BEING FOR ONE'S LOW SELF ESTEEM IS JUST PITIFUL!

What Can I Say ?
Celebrities That Are Pretty Much NOBODYs Have To Do Stuff Like That :o(
I Say We Shove A Huge Neclace On Him, Jump On His Back And Jab Him With A Hook...Than Smile And Wave At Everyone While He Cries Silent Tears.
GO TEAM PETA!

Posted by: Amanda | September 10, 2008 02:27 PM

Amanda, I totally agree! He is a total idiot!

Posted by: luvallanimals | September 10, 2008 03:45 PM

T-Pain was horrible for using that elephant. People just don't realize that they are hurting innocent animals in the process of them trying to make a statement. He just make the wrong kind of statement!!!!

Posted by: Rebecca Wilson | September 10, 2008 07:47 PM

Who the Hell is T-Pain? Maybe the reason he chose to make such an over-the-top entrance is because he wants to be known. This is not a racist comment, so no one should take it this way; however, the hip-hop rap world is full of people who have decided to continue the ugliness of degrading humans and animals. The wearing of leather, fur, feathers, etc. is a fashion faux pas that should be stopped whomever one is!

Posted by: Briun Fabulous | September 11, 2008 01:53 PM

Who in the hell is t-pain?... plese someone tell me.. All I know is that he don't give a **** about animals. obviosly the elephant it's a lot smarter than him, so,so, sad. But what it's more sad and disappointing it's the fact that the MTV's VMA executives allowed this to happen. By the way he will NEVER get the message cuz he's an IDIOT!!!
