Multitalented Aya Sugimoto is no stranger to nudity—the erotic novelist has doffed her duds in movies and as a model—but today she went naked for PETA Asia-Pacific and for animals abused for the fur industry.
Holding a sign reading, "Fur? I'd Rather Go Naked," gorgeous Aya posed before dozens of photographers and television cameras in one of the first Japanese campaigns by PETA Asia-Pacific.

PETA Asia-Pacific chose Aya Sugimoto for their anti-fur campaign because of her passion for animal rights (she's created her own faux-fur fashion brand). "I want people to realize that they can be stylish and posh enough without using real fur," Aya said. Great choice, PETA Asia-Pacific!
Has Aya gotten your attention? Go here to learn more about what happens to animals killed for their fur, then get on board and pledge to go fur-free.
P.S. For any UFC fans out there—PETA's favorite vegan fighter, Mac Danzig, is battling Clay Guida tonight (September 17) at Ultimate Fight Night 14 in Omaha, Nebraska. It'll be live on Spike TV. For those of you new to UFC, Mac is an awesome fighter and was the winner of Ultimate Fighter 6.
Go, Mac! Everyone here at PETA is rooting for you!

Erotic novelist? I think she's more famous as Queen Beryl from PGSM. At least, that's where I know her from... This only makes her more fabulous.

Its about time there getting the word out there to the asian - pacific countries because people over there will eat just about everything that moves and its foreign to them to here the word "vegetarian" let alone "vegan" they need to be more educated in that regards even though the japanese are amongst the smartest people in the world they are still naive when it comes to compassion for animals.

I applaud Miss Sugimoto for her stance against fur. But she can go even further by speaking out against whale hunting of which Japan is a huge supporter of and still hunts whales. They claim it is for "research" yet they really kill these beautiful creatures for the dining tables in Japanese restaurants.

Jozelle,
We are all animal lovers here, please leave ignorant comments outside. There are plenty of asian-vegetarians/vegans in asia pacific. Asia has one of the largest buddhist communities in the world. Taiwan has the best vegetarian/vegan restaurants in the world, IMO.

Here in Japan, she is a rare actress to stand up for animals while other Japanese celebreties brag about their fur this season. Her bravery is a realy treasure.

haha, i like this one, it should bring some attention to asia about the horrible fur farms, i mean i know its in america too, but its worse in asia..

To Jozelle - I'm with ML on this one, while I deeply appreciate your compassion towards animals I am absolutely appalled at your ignorant, callous and ill-researched ASSUMPTIONS about Asian cultures as a whole. Please remember that Buddhism, a religion of which a vital practice IS vegetarianism, is still the dominant religion in most of Asia. Seitan, tofu and many other plant-based mockmeats all have origins in Asian countries. Please extend some of your understanding and compassion towards ALL living beings, regardless of species AND culture.
To Julie - you're correct, Asia definitely has far more cruel fur farms than America has, but guess why they exist? Because of the demands for fur that AMERICAN and other developed-country consumers have. I'm not defending the Chinese citizens who partake in this cruel practice and am definitely not advocating the continuity of Chinese fur farms, but I think it is erroneous for you to assume 100% fault on the supplier. The most effective way to shut down the fur business is to tell those who buy it to stop wearing it.

I'm a Japanese-Australian and SOOOO proud of her!
It's incredibly brave of her to say no to fur in public. Japan is a very closed society and people avoid being provocative.
Japan is basically heaven for people who love fur. Fur is everywhere... on TV, on magazines, on streets. I was hoping someone well-known would protest against fur, and SHE DID IT!
I hope she or her agancy won't be threatened by fur association or campanies who sell fur.
I also hope that Japanese girls will be wise and stop wearing fur this year.

Thanks to Aya for becoming the 1st Japanese celebrity to speak up about fur issues! I think a lot of Japanese are animal lovers, but they don't really understand the consequence of buying and wearing fur casually. People need to understand that just a piece of fur on your hoodie jacket is a sacrifice of animal's lives. We need to work hard to educate Japanese people soon.
