Tee hee! Folks in Pensacola, Florida, might soon be in for a quirky PETA surprise! Since Florida is listed as the fishing capital of the country, we deemed it appropriate to kick up a little kerfuffle in the Sunshine State to honor Fish Amnesty Week.

This ad is sure to make male fishers everywhere cross their legs in whiny protest.
Overcompensating

So, for the sciencey part … we hear that hunting has been directly (and, let's be honest, hilariously) linked to diminutive male genitalia disorder, an affliction among men with small or misshapen genitals in which pleasure is derived by victimizing unprotected creatures who have no real means of defense or escape. So, what then can be assumed about the shortcomings of fishers? Well, the exaggerated importance of the size of the fish is the first clue. And did someone say something about a big rod? Lastly, we have the act of pulling animals out of their homes and causing them to suffocate, and if they're "lucky enough" to be thrown back, fish are often too weakened by trauma to survive a week. This certainly covers the "perverse enjoyment of cruelty" aspect of the disease.

Haha, very nice. I think it would be good if you'd point out that fishing is just hunting in the water.

Try getting your point across without actually make fun of something or someone. Maturity goes a long way. That's not to say I disagree with the point you are trying to make. I just think you could show more maturity.

~Falls over laughing~

The ad is pretty funny, and i think sometimes, it far better to make a statment that is funny than deadpan serious. It catches the attention of those who would otherwise not notice.

Relax and smile :)

A crude way to put it, I live in Florida why not bring up the fact we are hurt not just the fish but other forms of wild life like pelicans who are having a hard time finding enough food or that Florida has had horrible red tide which makes the fish unsafe to eat in the first place. Just a thought..

Crystal,
PETA's eye catching ads are set in place to make people interested in subjects in a way that opens up a dialog. You can't expect people who don't care about an issue to suddenly be concerned for Pelicans. As a Florida resident myself, I plan on using the attention PETA draws to the fishing problem to talk about the points you mentioned. I have found myself in many fact filled conversations with people who have seen a jarring PETA ad.

I THINK THE AD IS GREAT! PETA, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! WITH ALL THE HEART ACHE WE SEE WITH ABUSED AND TORTURED ANIMALS IT'S GREAT TO LAUGHT OUT LOUD ON A SILLY,CUTE AD. AND IT'S GETTING THE MESSAGE OUT THERE! MORE PEOPLE LOVE YOUR ADS THAN DON'T. MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT TO PETA!

Brilliant ad! And a very smart, funny commentary, Missy!

Very cute, except the ad does nothing to explain why thousands of Florida women fish (and hunt). My ex-wife was the fisher in our Florida family and our ethical conflict helped to break up our marriage.

You know, I love masculinity. The world would be so boring if we were the same and our different energies are lovely. HOwever, I love ONLY POSITIVE masculinity. Like the kind of masculinity that makes my bf want to build a dog house for my pups, or the kind that will lift animals out of harms way in a hurricane....the masculinity that wants to protect the weak from harm. That's good.

Hunting...no, that's terrible so called masculinity. To harm something that is weaker than you...not attractive at all.

Won't fly in Pensacola-by the way the story for this was right next to an add for Joe Patti's(our largest fresh fish market) in the Pensacola News Journal.-only way I saw it.

Uh oh. My fisherman hubby better not see me anywhere near this one while I'm sitting here giggling.
