"As of right now I am a vegan," she told reporters.
Rousey, whose favorite foods include imitation crab meat, comes from a family with an athletic history—her mother, AnnMaria, is a former U.S. world champion judoka. AnnMaria is very supportive of her daughter, explaining to reporters that there is no reason why a vegan lifestyle can't mix with an intense physical sport like judo: "I mean, we're tough but we don't kill our opponents and eat them."
Rousey is joining many other athletes—like John Salley and Mac Danzig, just to name a few—who have realized that the health benefits of going vegetarian or vegan are ideal for athletes as well as for average Gym Joes and Janes. Benefits like lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and a heightened immune system are certainly of use to athletes, right?
We think so—and so do Tony Gonzales, Carl Lewis, Scott Jurek, Chris Evert, and Ricky Williams. … You get the idea.
Congratulations, Ronda! If you're inspired by Rousey (and who isn't?) to try out a veggie diet for yourself, leap over to GoVeg.com, where you can order a free copy of our "Vegetarian Starter Kit."

Hmmm...most imitation crab meat is made of fish. Vegan ones are rare and you can only get them through mail order. Does she order her imitation crab meat by mail?!?!

I was watching an Olympic piece last night where the co-host visited many Chinese restaurants. She was served goose lips and beak, cow entrails, and other tasty animal flesh. But I was wondering why China didnt serve her dog or cat meat since they eat them over there. Because there would be a huge outcry if they did. And I am sure they would never take her to where they skin cats and dogs alive to sell the fur to unsuspecting people. If there is any fur on any garment, it could be dog or cat fur so just don't buy it!

Good for Ronda!
Vegans seem to do okay in martial arts. As well as Mac Danzig, James Southwood has made a name for himself.
"James Southwood – the raw food vegan athlete (vegan for 10 years) who is taking on the nation and the world in French Savate kickboxing – last month sealed his title of British Champion with a brace of victories, becoming the only fighter in the whole country to score a perfect 10 in every event, winning the title without dropping a point."

So she won the medal before being vegan? In other words, she was a worldclass athlete without being a vegan yet. Maybe she announced becoming a vegan as of the moment of winning because she ate animal products as part of her training diet and didn't want to give that up until the competition was over.

Joe,
It makes sense to transition your diet (in any form) at a time when you don't have to worry about your body's reaction. I play soccer, and if for some bizarre reason I decided to start eating animals, I would wait until I am not going to be playing for a while, so that my body can respond however it does. And, as said many times, there is nothing nutritionally unsound about being vegan.
Everyone should know the story of "Simon the Sadist" by Gary Francione. Just for fun, Simon keeps dogs in tiny cages so they can barely move for months, he mutilates them without anesthesia, beats them, etc. His reason? He enjoys it. Is is action justified?
How is it any better to treat a pig the very same way just because you enjoy pepperoni on your pizza?

serious meditators working on higher conciousness, and leaving the body at will ,are vegetarians some vegan, our bodies are a frequency, the meat diet drags the conciousness down and the meat is decomposing all the time before it gets to you, then decomposing in your body,it is a low vibratory food.
love and gratitude is the highest frequency state of being.congradulation to ronda.
