DMX
Loyal readers of The PETA Files know that this is not the first time we have mentioned rapper DMX (whose real name is Earl Simmons). If we wrote about him anymore, we'd have to give him his own chapter filed under "Cruel Scum"—a title that is probably still too kind.

Well, we're sick of DMX … again—and all the other celebrities who think power, money, or fame will get them off the hook for mistreating animals.

We have written a letter to Andrew P. Thomas, the judge overseeing Simmons' charges stemming from a 2007 police raid of the rapper's property north of Phoenix, where 12 pit bulls were reportedly found neglected, malnourished, and messed up. We're asking that Thomas—if Simmons is convicted of these charges—impose a sentence that forbids Simmons from owning or harboring any animals for as long as possible, that imposes a truly meaningful period of incarceration, and that requires him to undergo a thorough psychological evaluation followed by mandatory counseling at his own expense.

In one particularly cruel situation, police apparently found puppies who had been left in their cages so long that they needed to be cut out of them.

DMX has an extensive criminal past—including a similar raid that took place at his home in New Jersey in 2002 (during which police found 13 pit bulls on his property) as well as an arrest for illegal drug possession. People who abuse animals often go on to abuse or even kill humans. Remember Jeffrey Dahmer and Dennis Rader (aka "BTK Killer"), who abused and killed animals for practice prior to killing humans?

Hello Wow is all i can say. After watching the Micheal Vick special on Animal Planet I didnt think that there were anymore Rappers out there that were that Cruel. Hopefully they can be stopped. The animals dont deserve how they are treated. I believe the people who make these animals suffer should suffer the same way they make the animals suffer.

He should be in jail for life.

Posted by: Kelly | August 30, 2008 03:23 PM

I hope the Judge will give DMX the same punishment as Vick. Hopefully he too will be forced into bankruptcy and lose everything he owns. People should boycott anything to do with him, I know I am.

THANK YOU PETA !! YOU KEEP THE PRESSURE ON THEM !!! AS ALWAYS PETA IS THERE FOR ALL THE ANIMALS !! I KNOW WRITING THAT LETTER WILL HELP THOSE POOR DOGS THAT HAVE BEEN ABUSED AND TORTURED WITH NEGLECT. IT'S SO CRUEL . I CAN'T BELEIVE HOW BADLY PITBULLS ARE TREATED. I WISH RAPPERS WOULDN'T GIVE THEMSELFS SUCH A "BAD RAP". I HOPE FELLOW HIP-HOP AND RAPPERS WILL SPEAK UP AGAINST ALL THIS PITBULL ABUSE AND START HELPING ANIMALS

This type of culture that he and that worst bunch represent and appeal to is a destructive social organism that is foul to anything it gets its hands on. The fact is that this kind of culture and its members need to be recognized as the enemy of our civilization. This despicable and violent and socially destructive organism needs to be rejected across the board, not just becuase of any one thing it does. It simply harms anything it gets near due to its evil nature. It is destructive to all decent relations between any beings, human or animal, and it has been allowed to spread like the black plague. Simply, the root should be attacked and removed from our society and then the branches will not be there to harm anything they touch. What is in these people is proven by its fruit to be vile. It needs to be abollished and its infected members removed from anywhere in our society.

Thanks PETA for all you do for pit bulls. As an owner I am constantly amazed at the stupidity of the human race. I hope DMZ gets locked up for the rest of his life and can NEVER own another animal.

Posted by: Amanda | August 31, 2008 08:16 PM

this piece of crap needs to be put behind bars...no question about it..

Posted by: marie | August 31, 2008 08:58 PM

I can't believe that shit. Well, I can since its DMX but still. Who really needs to abuse animals for fun? Why doesn't he go & spend all of his money he makes on a fucking stuffed animal he can abuse all he wants. Pricks piss me off so much & animal abusers should be in jail as long as someone would be abusing humans. We are all earthlings & ALL of us feel pain.

I wish you were here in Greece and help us with animals. They suffer a lot here from negletion, abuse, malnutrition. Hundreds of dogs in the roads!
I envy a country with an organisation like PETA !

that we show more concern and outrage for the treatment of dogs - that wouldn't even exist but for our sadistic entertainment in the first place - shows how uncivilized and bored some of us are.

in jail for life? scum? i can provide you with a litany of examples of how you probably contribute the death of humans daily without even knowing it. i can provide with more examples of things you do that you could stop - but woudnt - that would contribute the death of humans.

lets be real. animals suffer (like everything else) because humans dont seem to have a grip on reality. that includes animal activists.

Posted by: Concerned | September 1, 2008 08:09 PM

DMX is disgusting!! I mailed his CD's back to his label so the best thing we can do is spread the word and NOT buy any of his music!

Posted by: Jennifer | September 1, 2008 08:46 PM

To Concerned, who claims animal activists don't have a grip on reality - we are the ones that know all to well the reality that animals face, and why, because people like you so easily turn a blind eye to the pain they face because you think people are the only important species. You know, speciests like you disgust me. Every innocent life should hold value - notice I used the word INNOCENT - DMX is nowhere close to innocent, so therefore he should rot, like he left his animals to.

It is extremely upsetting that anyone with a known name these days thinks that their fame or money will buy them out of a sticky situation that would otherwise punsih the average person. I constantly hear DMX's name in the tabloid news and wonder why anyone even cares what he is up to these days.

I agree that people who are charged with mistreating animals should never be allowed to own an animal as long as they live. It should be illegal to house over a certain number of digs anyway.

Dog fighting is no only cruel, but it messes the dog up mentally. Any dog is liable to snap because it is afterall, an animal. BUT, to train a dog to do what it otherwise wouldn't on a normal day is wrong.

Hopefully he'll get the punishment he deserves and hopefully it'll be a strong punishment that will last.

THANK-YOU PETA! FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE, AND CONTINUE TO DO FOR ANIMALS. DMX IS ANOTHER HEARTLESS, COLDBLOODED ANIMAL ABUSER. I CANNOT STAND TO EVEN THINK ABOUT HIM. HE SHOULD BE IN JAIL, AND SO SHOULD ALL ANIMAL ABUSERS!

Posted by: adele | September 2, 2008 08:59 PM

i think its sik how ppl wear make up n they dont no wear it has cum fra i think britain should do a make up strike

Posted by: lizzie wood | September 3, 2008 06:31 AM

firstly...the chances that he enjoys hurting animals is close to zero. furthermore...dmx is most likely not going to go bankrupt as he is releasing two albums and is currently filming a reality tv show. innocent till proven guilty, you keep eating this biased information when you dont even know anything about dmx nor his music. keep giving him this publicity, im sure it will only put more cash in his bank. dnt get me wrong i like the PETA and i beleive cruelty against animals is wrong, but i dont beleive that dmx intended for this to happen

Posted by: james | September 3, 2008 10:21 AM

I am just curious... how did he " not intend for this to happen"?

It's his home correct? His dogs? and they didnt get taken care of? hmmm... still not seeing how that statement has any validity at all..

Posted by: Allie | September 3, 2008 02:39 PM

Are you kidding me? Another Micheal Vick wanna-be? These pieces of crap should be put in cramped cage and left to starve. I hope he loses everything just like vick. What a scumbag!

Posted by: Nicole | September 3, 2008 10:01 PM

I HOPE THEY SERIOUSLY DO SOMETHING!! I used to listen to DMX when I was little, and am terribly ashamed of myself now. I no longer listen to him, and I hope God strikes him down with a big 'ol lightning bolt!

Posted by: Amber Falobas | September 6, 2008 07:33 PM

It is a shame that our males get such enjoyment from abusing animals especially dogs. It is not right. We need to change this perception. You are not stronger because you abuse animals. You just show how coward and a scum of earth you truly are. Respect all life! It is all our right. DMX you gotta be ashamed of yourself. BOYCOT DMX!

Posted by: Lovemy3rescue dogs | September 8, 2008 09:38 PM

This michael vick wannabe belongs in jail, just like all animal abusers everywhere.

Posted by: vegancoin | September 9, 2008 11:00 AM

When judges let criminals get away with crueity, they need to be re-called, or it will never end.

Posted by: Angel | September 16, 2008 11:13 PM

Just goes to prove how ignorent some people are. I live in Phoenix - and this is an outrage. I also own a 10 month old pit-bill who is by far the best dog i've even owned. Cruelty to ANY animal should be punished with the same treatment the person gave the dog! Lock his ass in a tiny dark crate......case closed.

Posted by: Samantha | October 6, 2008 06:32 PM

It sickens me when 'rappers' glorify pet abuse. We have a pit bull and we would never think of treating her with anything other then the utmost respect and love.
