3 Lives for $2.99

Posted at 09:57 AM | | CommentsComments (95)

KFC is known to work with suppliers that breed and drug chickens to grow so large that they can't even walk, cut off baby birds' sensitive beaks without any painkillers, and drop birds into tanks of scalding-hot water—often while they are still conscious. KFC accepts these cruel practices because they help fill the chain's buckets of chicken at a cheap price.

To highlight the twisted practices of a company that focuses on its wallets while ignoring animal welfare, we've created a series of provocative billboards. "Another Life, Another Dollar," "3 Lives for $2.99," and "Cheap Chicken Means Animals Pay a High Price" are just a few of the taglines. Hey, we never said subtlety was our forte.

Check out the ads, and then tell us which is your favorite by leaving a comment below!

I like the 3 Lives for $2.99 one.

Posted by: Erin | August 8, 2008 10:15 AM

Another life, Another Dollar is the best one in my opinion.

Posted by: Lola | August 8, 2008 10:19 AM

Priceless!! They are all FAN-tastic!!

Posted by: Carla | August 8, 2008 10:23 AM

The U.S. leads the world in poultry production with a yearly production of 18.2 mmt ready to cook equivalents (Anon, 2006).

We can eat harm free diets of fruit, vegetables, grains and live healthy guilt free lives.

We dont live in the dark ages any longer and dont have to kill to eat.

Don't let your body become a Graveyard for farm animals!

Go Vegan all the way!

Posted by: Holly | August 8, 2008 10:41 AM

I like the second and the third one.

Keep up the Good work PETA!

Go Vegan...

Posted by: Holly | August 8, 2008 10:49 AM

The first one is awesome.

Thanks Peta.

XVX for life, R.A.S.H. 'til death.

Posted by: Hann | August 8, 2008 10:52 AM

I think the 1st, 3rd and 5th ones do the best job of illustrating the point

Posted by: Matt | August 8, 2008 10:59 AM

I like the first and third.
Another great idea PETA!
Go Vegan!

Peace for all animals!
Most of my heroes wear masks!

Posted by: Judith FFFA | August 8, 2008 11:10 AM

I think the 3rd and 4th are the best, I like them all though.

Posted by: Kat | August 8, 2008 11:24 AM

another life, another dollar

Posted by: Ally | August 8, 2008 11:26 AM

3 lives for $2.99 is my favorite. I think people will make the connection better with this one. I know I would feel like a sh!t if I just bought a chicken to eat from KFC and saw this ad. Then again, I don't eat chickens so maybe that's why I would feel like a sh!t.

Posted by: ian | August 8, 2008 11:29 AM

I think the 1st, the 3rd, and the 4th ones are the most powerful.

Posted by: Stephanie | August 8, 2008 12:25 PM

im going for 3 lives for $2.99, but I also like the .64 question. Peta.. we love you guys in florida!!

Posted by: ghazal | August 8, 2008 12:37 PM

I like the "Cheap Chicken Means Animals Pay a High Price" and the "3 Lives for $2.99"

Posted by: Maggie | August 8, 2008 12:40 PM

I like both the "Three Lives" one and the "64 cents" one.

Posted by: Hannah | August 8, 2008 12:49 PM

The 1st one is the best, but they are all very good!

Posted by: Michele | August 8, 2008 12:52 PM

I think the first one hits the hardest!

Posted by: Maureen | August 8, 2008 01:04 PM

3 for 2.99 for sure!

Posted by: Melissa N | August 8, 2008 01:56 PM

I like the 3 lives for 2.99. I would think you'd want the simplest ad possible. We don't want anybody to have to think now do we?

Posted by: Leigh Anne Schmidt | August 8, 2008 02:00 PM

3 lives for 2.99 most deffinetly !
its gets right to the point i think

Posted by: Katie | August 8, 2008 02:40 PM

Great job, PETA. These ads are awesome!!! I like "3 lives for 2.99" best, and "1 life for 1 dollar".
All the others are actually pretty good--though I'm not so fond of the "cheap chicken means animals pay a high price" one, because that will encourage all the yokels who think that paying more for "humane" meat means that there isn't any suffering involved.

Posted by: Canaduck | August 8, 2008 02:51 PM

I like the "64 cents" welfare one. I also really like the "3 lives for 2.99," but I feel like it won't make people stop and think as much. People who eat meat want to eat as much of it as they can for as cheap as possible. When seeing the "3 lives" ad they'll just mutter the typical, "Yup, and they're delicious." I think telling people that KFC works hard to fight against humane practice is a better route to go.

Posted by: Siobhan M. | August 8, 2008 02:57 PM

THey are all right to the point and so true. THe one that stuck out to me was that;
KFC knows the price of everything, and the value of nothing.

Posted by: Pamela L. | August 8, 2008 04:18 PM

I love the "3 lives for 2.99" one. Keep up the good work. It is so easy to keep dead animals out of our diets by eating vegan. It's insane that such cruelty is happening to animals because a bunch of dumbos can't think for themselves. Hey make that a T-shirt, I'd wear it.

Posted by: vegan4animals | August 8, 2008 04:22 PM

I like Cheap Chicken Means Animals Pay a High Price.

Posted by: Julia | August 8, 2008 04:23 PM

I think that 3 lives for $2.99 is the best one because I believe it will make the most people think.

Posted by: Craig | August 8, 2008 07:43 PM

I love it when I am right. When ya'll posted a blog about the new kfc fake chicken sandwhich it sounded as if peta was patching things up with their long time rival. And I said I would just sit her and wait for yet another hate blog about kfc and I was right. I highly doubt kfc will change their ways so please don't hold your breath. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Btw- I like 3-5. They are all good.

Posted by: brandie | August 8, 2008 08:06 PM

3 lives for $2.99

Posted by: NT | August 8, 2008 09:16 PM

The first one-3 lives for $2.99 (subtitle - cheap food costs animals dearly.)
Brilliant!! Nails it!

Posted by: lynda downie | August 8, 2008 10:13 PM

I like the 3 lives for 2.99 one! Great job Peta!

Posted by: Lana | August 8, 2008 10:47 PM

First one is best! [in my opinion]

Posted by: Leslie Martinez | August 8, 2008 11:22 PM

All are good. Just make sure they ALL have kentuckyfriedcruelty.com on there...only one of them has it...and seeing a billboard with that web address on it is what changed my life completely!!

Posted by: larry | August 8, 2008 11:46 PM

i love them all they are soo true

Posted by: amy | August 9, 2008 12:33 AM

I like 1 and 2. People don't like the word cheap, I think that one word might do wonders in keeping customers away from KF Cruelty.

Posted by: Gina | August 9, 2008 06:44 AM

How Can I get one as a bumper sticker?

Posted by: LS | August 9, 2008 08:11 AM

I like the KFC knows the cost of everything, but the value of nothing

Posted by: Eilidh | August 9, 2008 09:08 AM

"I like Cheap Chicken Means Animals Pay a High Price"

They are food people. What other purpose does a chicken have? They aren't companion or work animals no other purpose just a good meal ;-).

Save Broccoli....Eat more Chicken!

Posted by: megnus | August 9, 2008 09:21 AM

Another life another $1 is the best but they r all great

Posted by: marina | August 9, 2008 09:26 AM

3 Lives for $2.99 is my vote.

Go PETA!
Go vegan!

Posted by: Leslie RD | August 9, 2008 11:23 AM

In my opinion the ad that is the most crushingly honest is #4. It exposes the hypocrisy and indifference of greed. They, the penny pinchers (engineers) measure every cost, every minute, every detail, every day. Everything but themselves. They fail to take any account of the treacherous existence of the birds in their keep. Their dominion is domonic. The fear and misery of living, breathing, seeing, hearing, feeling, nesting, natural instinctual creatures doesn't register in their minds or their cold hearts.

I think this ad will appeal to the more educated consumer and also the Christian community. People do know that what they are eating is a dead bird and the cost is what brings 'em in, not what is going to take them out. But value, now that is a strong word and it has meaning beyond a price tag. I think this ad will hit a home run with all but the lowest common denominator of KFC consumers. It strikes a curiousity factor.

Posted by: Saucy | August 9, 2008 12:51 PM

OOh these are all pretty good, but I like "3 lives for $2.99" and the 64 cent one.

Posted by: Natalie | August 9, 2008 03:27 PM

#2,#4 and #5, in my opinion are the best. I sincerely hope people get the message and it changes minds and hearts and compassion rules the day. How sad for the lovely chickens.

Last weekend I spent 3 days are Farm Sanctuary; now that is how animals ought to live!!!

Posted by: Ana | August 9, 2008 08:29 PM

Numba 3 is da best. GO PETA

Posted by: Rory | August 9, 2008 10:02 PM

Hey guys, I went vegetarian because I couldn't stand the thought of animals being killed, but animals are still being killed.

Whats wrong with that logic?

Posted by: Rock | August 10, 2008 01:34 AM

KFC knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing.
But they are all good.

Posted by: Patricia Panitz | August 10, 2008 02:02 AM

I like the third one best.

Posted by: dsfk | August 10, 2008 07:18 AM

I like another life another dollar

Posted by: Caroline | August 10, 2008 11:22 AM

Another life, another dollar is short and to the point.

Posted by: Maureen | August 10, 2008 05:14 PM

I think they are all wonderful! It way to hard to make a choice. =} Hopeful they will people to stop & think. Best luck ;}

Posted by: Crystal | August 10, 2008 07:16 PM

I like the second and third ones.

Posted by: Iris | August 10, 2008 08:06 PM

The 1st 2nd and 5th I think would be the best at getting the main point across quickly and effectively to the ordinary passer by

Posted by: Fawn | August 10, 2008 10:30 PM

I think 1, 2 And 4 are brilliant, thanks!!!!!

Posted by: Dixie | August 11, 2008 12:12 AM

I like the 3 lives for $2.99 one best. I think it would be the most effective one. Thanks to Peta, I stopped eating at KFC over a year ago.

Posted by: Alex | August 11, 2008 12:35 AM

i like all of them...do you happen to have a myspace code???this would be good for any one who wants to post them and inspire people to help stop this cruelty.....CURSE KFC ALL THE WAY!!!>=)

Posted by: rob garcia | August 11, 2008 12:38 AM

Number 3. Because it brings out KFC's lack of concern for the welfare of the Chickens. All meat-foods cost animal lives, but KFC is particularly vile because they condone such terrible practices, so ad 3 brings that out.

Posted by: Leigh | August 11, 2008 09:00 AM

Cheap chicken means that animals pay a high price.

Posted by: Joy Klankert | August 11, 2008 10:34 AM

Like the 1st and last one, straight to the point

Posted by: emily | August 11, 2008 10:49 AM

3 Lives for 2.99

Posted by: Christine | August 11, 2008 12:52 PM

I like the ".64 cent question" and the "cost of everything, value of nothing". All of the billlboards are very good, but those two stuck out. The chicken head is a little disturbing, it would certainly make me lose my apetite if I were a KFC consumer.

Posted by: Vanessa | August 11, 2008 05:18 PM

I prefer the second one

Posted by: elena tripatzi | August 12, 2008 01:46 AM

i really dig these
i think they do a great job of getting a strong message out there

Posted by: kailah | August 12, 2008 03:44 AM

All of them are great! But i haven't seen any of them advertised anywhere before ....Why don't you guys put these signs up near KFC chains? Not much use if it's only on peta's website where only people who are already animal lovers see it.

:)

Posted by: Maler | August 12, 2008 12:00 PM

Well, first, I would like to say that I dislike the gruesome image of the chicken's head. Although it certainly catches one's eye, many people, especially those who haven't yet "seen the light" of vegetarianism, find it disgusting. Such a rash display can turn people off to your message, no matter how just the cause you are representing is.

A good alternative might be a live chicken or some live chicks in a KFC bucket or simply on the sticker. It would be eye-catching and help the public connect living creatures with the deep-fried body parts they usually see at the restaurant. It would also help spread PETA's message of non-violence, a definite plus.

Reguardless, I do like the line, "KFC knows he cost of everything... and the value of nothing." It really packs a punch and carries my favorite message: life is valuable. In my mind, this awareness is the difference between animal rights activists like myself and those who know about KFC's doings but continue to support this heinous industry.

Posted by: Kelly G | August 12, 2008 07:36 PM

I think personally ''What's a life worth?'' is the best one. It is extremely direct and can easily touch someone, maybe disgust them but, as you said, subtlelity is not our forte. haha. I would go more for that one... Very strong. Congratulations and good job PETA!!!

Posted by: Lucas | August 12, 2008 07:53 PM

I LOVE ALL OF THEM WHERE CAN I GET ONE TO HANG ON MY DESK AT WORK?
LOVE IT

Posted by: Heather Henson | August 13, 2008 03:11 PM

I like the one that says that KFC does not know the value of anything!... Cruelty cannot be excused by ignorance or demand!!

Posted by: dIANA | August 13, 2008 04:31 PM

cheap chicken means animals pay a high price

Posted by: vegancoin | August 13, 2008 06:41 PM

I vote for the second one:
"Cheap chicken means animals pay a high price"
But I'd rather see one that said:
"Chickens lives are worth more. Go vegan."

Posted by: Elaine Vigneault | August 13, 2008 08:35 PM

I like the "Whats a life worth? At KFC..." one. That rules.

Posted by: Asphodel | August 14, 2008 06:30 AM

I like #1 the best!

Posted by: Meagan ryan | August 14, 2008 06:59 PM

I like the How Low Can You Go and the 64 cent question ones...tie!!!

Posted by: Kat | August 14, 2008 07:31 PM

One life for $1 is my favorite. So sad that we could stoop so low as a society all in the name profit.

Posted by: Larry Mayfield | August 14, 2008 08:31 PM

Number 3 is best

Posted by: Manan | August 14, 2008 09:58 PM

I was amazed by the "another life, another dollar" logo. We really support your campain from Argentina! Thank you!!

Posted by: Magg | August 14, 2008 11:33 PM

The 3rd one! No doubt.

Posted by: Giorgia Atchison | August 15, 2008 12:00 AM

3 lives for $2.99 is powerful.

Posted by: christine | August 15, 2008 04:53 AM

I think the 3 Lives for $2.99 made the most impact but I thank you for everything you do!

Posted by: MaryAnn Smith | August 15, 2008 10:34 AM

I like the one that says "KFC knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing."
Those people are honestly pathetic that they could kill chickens without flinching or feeling any guilt at all. It makes me sick. And the fact that they don't use anything to put the chickens to sleep or to make it painless as possible is disgusting.

Posted by: Rachel | August 15, 2008 12:24 PM

3 for 2.99 I think...

Posted by: Danielle Martin | August 15, 2008 06:27 PM

I like the first one. :)

Posted by: Cassandra Lou | August 16, 2008 09:48 AM

None of them as far as I'm concerned ... because the life of all animals is worthwhile!

but to spread the word I'll choose the last one ... because one day they will bluntly "offer" thee "cheap" chicken for nothing!! :(

Posted by: Sonja BONFILS | August 17, 2008 12:28 PM

I like the 3 Lives for $2.99 ad. Keep up the good work, PETA.

Thanks for all you do for animals.

Posted by: Judy | August 17, 2008 08:12 PM

'3 lives for $2.99' has the strongest message out of all of them.

just like to say thanks, today was my first day as a vego! :)

Posted by: Kelsey | August 18, 2008 03:48 AM

the 3 lives for 2,99 $ is great as the others. We should, if we were allowed to do so, put an add with a human baby going through the same pain..that's the only thing that could really chock people, we do know that they are not sensitive to an animal pain, so if hard ways should be used to put this into their stupid heads,I'm on it.
Keep on doing what you do, you are all great at PETA!

Posted by: mason | August 18, 2008 04:09 AM

I like the 4th one, KFC knows the cost of everything & the value of nothing & the 6th one, one life for one dollar, how low can you go?

Posted by: Tracy | August 18, 2008 01:07 PM

i think the third one is the best. you need to prove a strong point, and that gives it straight out there.

you are doing great work PETA. i cant wait untill im old enough to make a diference too. (im only 14) well at least a bigger difference. lol

xxx

Posted by: jordann | August 18, 2008 06:16 PM

I like the "to KFC the question "what is a life worth" mathes to the answer "64 cents" and the "cost of everything value of nothing"

Posted by: Ania | August 20, 2008 08:20 AM

I like the cost of everything, value of nothing one, but I think it should have the website at the bottom...

Posted by: Amanda | August 23, 2008 02:17 AM

I like #2 and #3

KENTUCKY FRIED CRUELTY

Posted by: Kevin | August 29, 2008 06:36 PM

i think they are all great and should be posted everywhere!
i love your work, we need you here is australia too!

Posted by: Tarryn Hammond | August 30, 2008 08:21 AM

The first one says it best. Easy to read and right to the point.

Posted by: Alyssa | September 3, 2008 01:23 PM

heres the part i find funny, its that peta choose kfc to start a fight and all the other companies that do the same is let go, if ur gonna protest animal cruelty, shouldn't it be after every last slaughterhouse and company that sells chicken products?

Posted by: random | September 3, 2008 08:56 PM

I like the 3 Lives for $2.99. Life is so cheap to these companies and I would pay 100 times that just to save ONE.

Posted by: Jessica | September 4, 2008 02:21 PM

Cheap chicken, means animals pay a high price. GO VEGAN!!

Posted by: Wendy | September 8, 2008 03:59 PM

OMG!!! there are killing them
